제 4 장
사마리아 여자와 말씀하시다
1 예수께서 제자를 삼고 세례를 베푸시는 것이 요한보다 많다 하는 말을 바리새인들이 들은 줄을 주께서 아신지라
2 (예수께서 친히 세례를 베푸신 것이 아니요 제자들이 베푼 것이라)
3 유대를 떠나사 다시 갈릴리로 가실새
4 사마리아를 통과하여야 하겠는지라
5 사마리아에 있는 수가라 하는 동네에 이르시니 야곱이 그 아들 요셉에게 준 땅이 가깝고
6 거기 또 야곱의 우물이 있더라 예수께서 길 가시다가 피곤하여 우물 곁에 그대로 앉으시니 때가 여섯 시쯤 되었더라
7 사마리아 여자 한 사람이 물을 길으러 왔으매 예수께서 물을 좀 달라 하시니
8 이는 제자들이 먹을 것을 사러 그 동네에 들어갔음이러라
9 사마리아 여자가 이르되 당신은 유대인으로서 어찌하여 사마리아 여자인 나에게 물을 달라 하나이까 하니 이는 유대인이 사마리아인과 상종하지 아니함이러라
10 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 네가 만일 하나님의 선물과 또 네게 물 좀 달라 하는 이가 누구인 줄 알았더라면 네가 그에게 구하였을 것이요 그가 생수를 네게 주었으리라
11 여자가 이르되 주여 물 길을 그릇도 없고 이 우물은 깊은데 어디서 당신이 그 생수를 얻겠사옵나이까
12 우리 조상 야곱이 이 우물을 우리에게 주셨고 또 여기서 자기와 자기 아들들과 짐승이 다 마셨는데 당신이 야곱보다 더 크니이까
13 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 이 물을 마시는 자마다 다시 목마르려니와
14 내가 주는 물을 마시는 자는 영원히 목마르지 아니하리니 내가 주는 물은 그 속에서 영생하도록 솟아나는 샘물이 되리라
15 여자가 이르되 주여 그런 물을 내게 주사 목마르지도 않고 또 여기 물 길으러 오지도 않게 하옵소서
16 이르시되 가서 네 남편을 불러 오라
17 여자가 대답하여 이르되 나는 남편이 없나이다 예수께서 이르시되 네가 남편이 없다 하는 말이 옳도다
18 너에게 남편 다섯이 있었고 지금 있는 자도 네 남편이 아니니 네 말이 참되도다
19 여자가 이르되 주여 내가 보니 선지자로소이다
20 우리 조상들은 이 산에서 예배하였는데 당신들의 말은 예배할 곳이 예루살렘에 있다 하더이다
21 예수께서 이르시되 여자여 내 말을 믿으라 이 산에서도 말고 예루살렘에서도 말고 너희가 아버지께 예배할 때가 이르리라
22 너희는 알지 못하는 것을 예배하고 우리는 아는 것을 예배하노니 이는 구원이 유대인에게서 남이라
23 아버지께 참되게 예배하는 자들은 영과 진리로 예배할 때가 오나니 곧 이 때라 아버지께서는 자기에게 이렇게 예배하는 자들을 찾으시느니라
24 하나님은 영이시니 예배하는 자가 영과 진리로 예배할지니라
25 여자가 이르되 메시야 곧 그리스도라 하는 이가 오실 줄을 내가 아노니 그가 오시면 모든 것을 우리에게 알려 주시리이다
26 예수께서 이르시되 네게 말하는 내가 그라 하시니라
27 이 때에 제자들이 돌아와서 예수께서 여자와 말씀하시는 것을 이상히 여겼으나 무엇을 구하시나이까 어찌하여 그와 말씀하시나이까 묻는 자가 없더라
28 여자가 물동이를 버려 두고 동네로 들어가서 사람들에게 이르되
29 내가 행한 모든 일을 내게 말한 사람을 와서 보라 이는 그리스도가 아니냐 하니
30 그들이 동네에서 나와 예수께로 오더라
31 그 사이에 제자들이 청하여 이르되 랍비여 잡수소서
32 이르시되 내게는 너희가 알지 못하는 먹을 양식이 있느니라
33 제자들이 서로 말하되 누가 잡수실 것을 갖다 드렸는가 하니
34 예수께서 이르시되 나의 양식은 나를 보내신 이의 뜻을 행하며 그의 일을 온전히 이루는 이것이니라
35 너희는 넉 달이 지나야 추수할 때가 이르겠다 하지 아니하느냐 그러나 나는 너희에게 이르노니 너희 눈을 들어 밭을 보라 희어져 추수하게 되었도다
36 거두는 자가 이미 삯도 받고 영생에 이르는 열매를 모으나니 이는 뿌리는 자와 거두는 자가 함께 즐거워하게 하려 함이라
37 그런즉 한 사람이 심고 다른 사람이 거둔다 하는 말이 옳도다
38 내가 너희로 노력하지 아니한 것을 거두러 보내었노니 다른 사람들은 노력하였고 너희는 그들이 노력한 것에 참여하였느니라
39 여자의 말이 내가 행한 모든 것을 그가 내게 말하였다 증언하므로 그 동네 중에 많은 사마리아인이 예수를 믿는지라
40 사마리아인들이 예수께 와서 자기들과 함께 유하시기를 청하니 거기서 이틀을 유하시매
41 예수의 말씀으로 말미암아 믿는 자가 더욱 많아
42 그 여자에게 말하되 이제 우리가 믿는 것은 네 말로 인함이 아니니 이는 우리가 친히 듣고 그가 참으로 세상의 구주신 줄 앎이라 하였더라
왕의 신하의 아들을 고치시다(마 8:5-13; 눅 7:1-10)
43 이틀이 지나매 예수께서 거기를 떠나 갈릴리로 가시며
44 친히 증언하시기를 선지자가 고향에서는 높임을 받지 못한다 하시고
45 갈릴리에 이르시매 갈릴리인들이 그를 영접하니 이는 자기들도 명절에 갔다가 예수께서 명절중 예루살렘에서 하신 모든 일을 보았음이더라
46 예수께서 다시 갈릴리 가나에 이르시니 전에 물로 포도주를 만드신 곳이라 왕의 신하가 있어 그의 아들이 가버나움에서 병들었더니
47 그가 예수께서 유대로부터 갈릴리로 오셨다는 것을 듣고 가서 청하되 내려오셔서 내 아들의 병을 고쳐 주소서 하니 그가 거의 죽게 되었음이라
48 예수께서 이르시되 너희는 표적과 기사를 보지 못하면 도무지 믿지 아니하리라
49 신하가 이르되 주여 내 아이가 죽기 전에 내려오소서
50 예수께서 이르시되 가라 네 아들이 살아 있다 하시니 그 사람이 예수께서 하신 말씀을 믿고 가더니
51 내려가는 길에서 그 종들이 오다가 만나서 아이가 살아 있다 하거늘
52 그 낫기 시작한 때를 물은즉 어제 일곱 시에 열기가 떨어졌나이다 하는지라
53 그의 아버지가 예수께서 네 아들이 살아 있다 말씀하신 그 때인 줄 알고 자기와 그 온 집안이 다 믿으니라
54 이것은 예수께서 유대에서 갈릴리로 오신 후에 행하신 두 번째 표적이니라
CAPÍTULO 4
Jesús enseña a una mujer samaritana — Todos deben adorar al Padre en espíritu y en verdad — Quienes cosechan almas obtienen la vida eterna — Muchos samaritanos creen — Jesús sana al hijo de un noble.
1 aDe manera que cuando Jesús supo que los fariseos habían oído que Jesús hacía y bautizaba más discípulos que Juan
2 (aunque Jesús no bautizaba, sino sus discípulos),
3 dejó Judea y se fue otra vez a Galilea.
4 Y era menester que pasase por Samaria.
5 Llegó, pues, a una ciudad de aSamaria que se llamaba Sicar, junto a la heredad que Jacob dio a su hijo José.
6 Y estaba allí el pozo de Jacob. Entonces Jesús, cansado del camino, se sentó junto al pozo. Era como la hora sexta.
7 Vino una mujer de Samaria a sacar agua; y Jesús le dijo: Dame de beber.
8 (Pues sus discípulos habían ido a la ciudad a comprar algo de comer).
9 Y la mujer samaritana le dijo: ¿Cómo tú, siendo judío, me pides a mí de beber, que soy mujer samaritana? Porque los judíos no se tratan con los asamaritanos.
10 Respondió Jesús y le dijo: Si conocieses el adon de Dios, y quién es el que te dice: Dame de beber, tú le pedirías a él, y él te daría bagua viva.
11 La mujer le dijo: Señor, no tienes con qué sacarla, y el pozo es hondo. ¿De dónde, pues, tienes el agua viva?
12 ¿Acaso eres tú mayor que nuestro padre Jacob, que nos dio este pozo, del cual bebieron él, y sus hijos y sus ganados?
13 Respondió Jesús y le dijo: Cualquiera que bebiere de esta agua volverá a tener sed;
14 mas el que bebiere del agua que yo le daré ano tendrá sed jamás, sino que el agua que yo le daré será en él una fuente de agua que bbrote para vida eterna.
15 La mujer le dijo: Señor, dame esa agua, para que no tenga sed ni venga acá a sacarla.
16 Jesús le dijo: Ve, llama a tu marido y ven acá.
17 Respondió la mujer y dijo: No tengo marido. Jesús le dijo: Bien has dicho: No tengo marido,
18 porque cinco maridos has tenido y el que ahora tienes no es tu marido; esto has dicho con verdad.
19 Le dijo la mujer: Señor, me parece que tú eres profeta.
20 Nuestros padres adoraron en este amonte, pero vosotros decís que en Jerusalén está el lugar donde se debe adorar.
21 Jesús le dijo: Mujer, créeme que la hora viene cuando ni en este monte ni en Jerusalén adoraréis al Padre.
22 Vosotros adoráis alo que no sabéis; nosotros adoramos lo que sabemos, porque la salvación viene de los judíos.
23 Pero la hora viene, y ahora es, cuando los verdaderos aadoradores adorarán al Padre en espíritu y en verdad, porque también el Padre busca a tales para que le adoren.
24 aDios es bEspíritu; y los que le adoran, es necesario que le adoren en espíritu y en verdad.
25 Le dijo la mujer: Sé que el aMesías ha de venir, el cual es llamado el Cristo; cuando él venga, nos bdeclarará todas las cosas.
26 Jesús le dijo: aYo soy, el que habla contigo.
27 Y en esto vinieron sus discípulos y se sorprendieron de que hablara con una mujer; pero ninguno dijo: ¿Qué preguntas? o ¿Qué hablas con ella?
28 Entonces la mujer dejó su cántaro, y fue a la ciudad y dijo a los hombres:
29 Venid, ved a un hombre que me ha dicho todo lo que he hecho. ¿No será este el Cristo?
30 Entonces salieron de la ciudad y fueron a él.
31 Entretanto, los discípulos le rogaban, diciendo: Rabí, come.
32 Y él les dijo: Yo tengo una comida que comer que vosotros no sabéis.
33 Entonces los discípulos se decían el uno al otro: ¿Le habrá traído alguien de comer?
34 Jesús les dijo: Mi comida es que haga la avoluntad del que me envió y que acabe su bobra.
35 ¿No decís vosotros: Aún faltan cuatro meses para que llegue la siega? He aquí os digo: Alzad vuestros ojos y mirad los acampos, porque ya están blancos para la bsiega.
36 Y el que siega recibe asalario y recoge fruto para vida eterna, para que el que siembra también bse regocije juntamente con el que siega.
37 Porque en esto es verdadero el dicho: Uno es el que asiembra, y otro es el que siega.
38 Yo os he enviado a segar lo que vosotros no labrasteis; aotros labraron, y vosotros habéis entrado en sus labores.
39 Y muchos de los samaritanos de aquella ciudad creyeron en él por la palabra de la mujer, que daba testimonio, diciendo: Me dijo todo lo que he hecho.
40 Entonces vinieron los samaritanos a él y le rogaron que se quedase con ellos, y se quedó allí dos días.
41 Y muchos más creyeron por la palabra de él.
42 Y decían a la mujer: Ya no creemos solo por tu palabra, porque nosotros mismos hemos oído y sabemos que verdaderamente este es el aSalvador del mundo, el Cristo.
43 Y dos días después, salió de allí y fue a Galilea.
44 Porque Jesús mismo dio testimonio de que un profeta no tiene honra en su propia tierra.
45 Y cuando vino a Galilea, los galileos le recibieron, habiendo visto todas las cosas que había hecho en Jerusalén, en el día de la fiesta, porque también ellos habían ido a la fiesta.
46 Vino, pues, Jesús otra vez a Caná de Galilea, donde había convertido el agua en vino. Y había en Capernaúm un oficial del rey, cuyo hijo estaba enfermo.
47 Cuando oyó aquel que Jesús había llegado de Judea a Galilea, fue a él y le rogó que descendiese y sanase a su hijo, porque estaba a punto de morir.
48 Entonces Jesús le dijo: Si no veis aseñales y prodigios, no creeréis.
49 El oficial del rey le dijo: Señor, desciende antes que mi hijo muera.
50 Jesús le dijo: Ve, tu hijo vive. Y el hombre creyó la palabra que Jesús le dijo y se fue.
51 Y cuando ya él descendía, los siervos salieron a recibirle y le dieron nuevas, diciendo: Tu hijo vive.
52 Entonces él les preguntó a qué hora había comenzado a estar mejor. Y le dijeron: Ayer a la hora séptima le dejó la fiebre.
53 El padre entonces entendió que aquella era la hora cuando Jesús le dijo: Tu hijo vive; y creyó él con toda su casa.
54 Este segundo amilagro hizo Jesús cuando fue de Judea a Galilea.
CHAPTER 4
Jesus teaches a woman of Samaria—All must worship the Father in spirit and truth—Those who harvest souls gain eternal life—Many Samaritans believe—Jesus heals a nobleman’s son.
1 aWhen therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
2 (Though Jesus himself abaptized not, but his disciples,)
3 He left Judæa, and departed again into Galilee.
4 And he must needs go through Samaria.
5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son aJoseph.
6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the aSamaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the agift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee bliving water.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never athirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water bspringing up into ceverlasting life.
15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a aprophet.
20 Our fathers worshipped in athis mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
22 Ye worship ye aknow not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall aworship the Father in spirit and in btruth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 aGod is a bSpirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in ctruth.
25 The woman saith unto him, I know that aMessias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will btell us all things.
26 Jesus saith unto her, aI that speak unto thee am he.
27 ¶ And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
31 ¶ In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the awill of him that sent me, and to finish his bwork.
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the afields; for they are white already to bharvest.
36 And he that reapeth receiveth awages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may brejoice together.
37 And herein is that saying true, One asoweth, and another reapeth.
38 I sent you to areap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: bother men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
39 ¶ And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.
41 And many more believed because of his own word;
42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the aChrist, the bSaviour of the world.
43 ¶ Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.
44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.
45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilæans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.
46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at aCapernaum.
47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judæa into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.
48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see asigns and wonders, ye will not believe.
49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son aliveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.
52 Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and ahimself believed, and his whole house.
54 This is again the asecond miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judæa into Galilee.
