제 24 장
바울을 고발하다
1 닷새 후에 대제사장 아나니아가 어떤 장로들과 한 변호사 더둘로와 함께 내려와서 총독 앞에서 바울을 고발하니라
2 바울을 부르매 더둘로가 고발하여 이르되
3 벨릭스 각하여 우리가 당신을 힘입어 태평을 누리고 또 이 민족이 당신의 선견으로 말미암아 여러 가지로 개선된 것을 우리가 어느 모양으로나 어느 곳에서나 크게 감사하나이다
4 당신을 더 괴롭게 아니하려 하여 우리가 대강 여짜옵나니 관용하여 들으시기를 원하나이다
5 우리가 보니 이 사람은 전염병 같은 자라 천하에 흩어진 유대인을 다 소요하게 하는 자요 나사렛 이단의 우두머리라
6 그가 또 성전을 더럽게 하려 하므로 우리가 잡았사오니 (6하반-8상반 없음)
8 당신이 친히 그를 심문하시면 우리가 고발하는 이 모든 일을 아실 수 있나이다 하니
9 유대인들도 이에 참가하여 이 말이 옳다 주장하니라
바울이 변명하다
10 총독이 바울에게 머리로 표시하여 말하라 하니 그가 대답하되 당신이 여러 해 전부터 이 민족의 재판장 된 것을 내가 알고 내 사건에 대하여 기꺼이 변명하나이다
11 당신이 아실 수 있는 바와 같이 내가 예루살렘에 예배하러 올라간 지 열이틀밖에 안 되었고
12 그들은 내가 성전에서 누구와 변론하는 것이나 회당 또는 시중에서 무리를 소동하게 하는 것을 보지 못하였으니
13 이제 나를 고발하는 모든 일에 대하여 그들이 능히 당신 앞에 내세울 것이 없나이다
14 그러나 이것을 당신께 고백하리이다 나는 그들이 이단이라 하는 도를 따라 조상의 하나님을 섬기고 율법과 선지자들의 글에 기록된 것을 다 믿으며
15 그들이 기다리는 바 하나님께 향한 소망을 나도 가졌으니 곧 의인과 악인의 부활이 있으리라 함이니이다
16 이것으로 말미암아 나도 하나님과 사람에 대하여 항상 양심에 거리낌이 없기를 힘쓰나이다
17 여러 해 만에 내가 내 민족을 구제할 것과 제물을 가지고 와서
18 드리는 중에 내가 결례를 행하였고 모임도 없고 소동도 없이 성전에 있는 것을 그들이 보았나이다 그러나 아시아로부터 온 어떤 유대인들이 있었으니
19 그들이 만일 나를 반대할 사건이 있으면 마땅히 당신 앞에 와서 고발하였을 것이요
20 그렇지 않으면 이 사람들이 내가 공회 앞에 섰을 때에 무슨 옳지 않은 것을 보았는가 말하라 하소서
21 오직 내가 그들 가운데 서서 외치기를 내가 죽은 자의 부활에 대하여 오늘 너희 앞에 심문을 받는다고 한 이 한 소리만 있을 따름이니이다 하니
22 벨릭스가 이 도에 관한 것을 더 자세히 아는 고로 연기하여 이르되 천부장 루시아가 내려오거든 너희 일을 처결하리라 하고
23 백부장에게 명하여 바울을 지키되 자유를 주고 그의 친구들이 그를 돌보아 주는 것을 금하지 말라 하니라
바울이 감옥에 갇혀 지내다
24 수일 후에 벨릭스가 그 아내 유대 여자 드루실라와 함께 와서 바울을 불러 그리스도 예수 믿는 도를 듣거늘
25 바울이 의와 절제와 장차 오는 심판을 강론하니 벨릭스가 두려워하여 대답하되 지금은 가라 내가 틈이 있으면 너를 부르리라 하고
26 동시에 또 바울에게서 돈을 받을까 바라는 고로 더 자주 불러 같이 이야기하더라
27 이태가 지난 후 보르기오 베스도가 벨릭스의 소임을 이어받으니 벨릭스가 유대인의 마음을 얻고자 하여 바울을 구류하여 두니라
CAPÍTULO 24
Se acusa a Pablo de sedición — Él responde en defensa de su vida y de la doctrina — Enseña a Félix sobre la rectitud, la templanza y el juicio venidero.
1 Y cinco días después, descendió el sumo sacerdote Ananías con algunos de los ancianos y un cierto orador llamado Tértulo; y acusaron a Pablo delante del gobernador.
2 Y cuando Pablo fue llamado, Tértulo comenzó a acusarle, diciendo: Como gracias a ti vivimos en gran paz, y muchas cosas son bien gobernadas en el pueblo por tu prudencia,
3 siempre y en todo lugar recibimos esto con toda acción de gracias, oh excelentísimo Félix.
4 Pero para no molestarte más largamente, te ruego que nos oigas brevemente conforme a tu equidad.
5 Porque hemos hallado que este hombre es una plaga, y promotor de sediciones entre todos los judíos por todo el mundo, y cabecilla de la secta de los nazarenos,
6 quien también intentó profanar el templo; y prendiéndole, le quisimos juzgar conforme a nuestra ley.
7 Pero interviniendo el tribuno Lisias, con gran violencia le quitó de nuestras manos,
8 mandando a sus acusadores que viniesen a ti; tú mismo, pues, al juzgarle, podrás entender todas estas cosas de que le acusamos.
9 Los judíos también lo confirmaban, diciendo ser así estas cosas.
10 Entonces Pablo, una vez que el gobernador le hizo señal para que hablase, respondió: Porque sé que desde hace muchos años eres juez de esta nación, con buen ánimo presentaré mi defensa.
11 Tú puedes comprobar que no hace más de doce días que subí a adorar a Jerusalén;
12 y no me hallaron disputando con ninguno, ni haciendo tumulto entre la multitud, ni en el templo, ni en las sinagogas ni en la ciudad;
13 ni te pueden probar las cosas de que ahora me acusan.
14 Pero esto te confieso, que conforme al Camino que ellos llaman herejía, así sirvo al Dios de mis padres, creyendo todas las cosas que en la ley y en los profetas están escritas,
15 teniendo esperanza en Dios que ha de haber resurrección de los muertos, tanto de justos como de injustos, la cual también ellos tienen.
16 Y por esto, procuro yo tener siempre una conciencia sin remordimiento ante Dios y ante los hombres.
17 Pero pasados muchos años, vine a hacer limosnas a mi nación y presentar ofrendas,
18 en ello estaba cuando me hallaron unos judíos de Asia purificado en el templo (no con multitud ni con alboroto);
19 ellos debieran comparecer ante ti y acusarme si contra mí tienen algo.
20 O digan estos mismos si hallaron en mí alguna cosa mal hecha cuando comparecí ante el concilio,
21 a no ser que, estando entre ellos, prorrumpí en alta voz: Acerca de la resurrección de los muertos soy juzgado hoy por vosotros.
22 Entonces Félix, oídas estas cosas, estando bien informado de este Camino, les puso dilación, diciendo: Cuando descienda el tribuno Lisias, acabaré de conocer de vuestro asunto.
23 Y mandó al centurión que se custodiase a Pablo, pero con alguna medida de libertad; y que no impidiese a ninguno de los suyos servirle o venir a él.
24 Y algunos días después, viniendo Félix con Drusila, su esposa, que era judía, llamó a Pablo y le oyó acerca de la fe en Jesucristo.
25 Y al disertar él de la rectitud, y del dominio propio y del juicio venidero, Félix se espantó y respondió: Ahora vete; pero cuando tenga oportunidad, te llamaré.
26 Esperaba también con esto que Pablo le diera dinero para que le soltase; por lo cual, haciéndole venir muchas veces, hablaba con él.
27 Y al cabo de dos años, recibió Félix como sucesor a Porcio Festo; y queriendo Félix congraciarse con los judíos, dejó preso a Pablo.
CHAPTER 24
Paul is accused of sedition—He answers in defense of his life and doctrine—He teaches Felix of righteousness, temperance, and the judgment to come.
1 And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.
2 And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,
3 We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.
4 Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.
5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:
6 Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.
7 But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,
8 Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.
9 And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.
10 Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:
11 Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.
12 And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
13 Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.
14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.
17 Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.
18 Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.
19 Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.
20 Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,
21 Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
22 And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.
23 And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.
24 And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
26 He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.
27 But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix’ room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
