제 8 장
우상에게 바친 제물
1 우상의 제물에 대하여는 우리가 다 지식이 있는 줄을 아나 지식은 교만하게 하며 사랑은 덕을 세우나니
2 만일 누구든지 무엇을 아는 줄로 생각하면 아직도 마땅히 알 것을 알지 못하는 것이요
3 또 누구든지 하나님을 사랑하면 그 사람은 하나님도 알아 주시느니라
4 그러므로 우상의 제물을 먹는 일에 대하여는 우리가 우상은 세상에 아무 것도 아니며 또한 하나님은 한 분밖에 없는 줄 아노라
5 비록 하늘에나 땅에나 신이라 불리는 자가 있어 많은 신과 많은 주가 있으나
6 그러나 우리에게는 한 하나님 곧 아버지가 계시니 만물이 그에게서 났고 우리도 그를 위하여 있고 또한 한 주 예수 그리스도께서 계시니 만물이 그로 말미암고 우리도 그로 말미암아 있느니라
7 그러나 이 지식은 모든 사람에게 있는 것은 아니므로 어떤 이들은 지금까지 우상에 대한 습관이 있어 우상의 제물로 알고 먹는 고로 그들의 양심이 약하여지고 더러워지느니라
8 음식은 우리를 하나님 앞에 내세우지 못하나니 우리가 먹지 않는다고 해서 더 못사는 것도 아니고 먹는다고 해서 더 잘사는 것도 아니니라
9 그런즉 너희의 자유가 믿음이 약한 자들에게 걸려 넘어지게 하는 것이 되지 않도록 조심하라
10 지식 있는 네가 우상의 집에 앉아 먹는 것을 누구든지 보면 그 믿음이 약한 자들의 양심이 담력을 얻어 우상의 제물을 먹게 되지 않겠느냐
11 그러면 네 지식으로 그 믿음이 약한 자가 멸망하나니 그는 그리스도께서 위하여 죽으신 형제라
12 이같이 너희가 형제에게 죄를 지어 그 약한 양심을 상하게 하는 것이 곧 그리스도에게 죄를 짓는 것이니라
13 그러므로 만일 음식이 내 형제를 실족하게 한다면 나는 영원히 고기를 먹지 아니하여 내 형제를 실족하지 않게 하리라
CAPÍTULO 8
Hay muchos dioses y muchos señores — Para nosotros hay un solo Dios (el Padre) y un solo Señor, que es Cristo.
1 En cuanto a lo sacrificado a los ídolos, sabemos que todos tenemos conocimiento. El conocimiento envanece, pero la caridad edifica.
2 Y si alguno se imagina que sabe algo, aún no sabe nada como debe saberlo.
3 Pero si alguno ama a Dios, es conocido por él.
4 En cuanto a comer lo sacrificado a los ídolos, sabemos que un ídolo nada es en el mundo, y que no hay más que un solo Dios.
5 Porque aunque haya algunos que se llamen dioses, sea en el cielo o en la tierra (como hay muchos dioses y muchos señores),
6 nosotros no tenemos más que un solo Dios, el Padre, de quien son todas las cosas, y nosotros de él; y un Señor, Jesucristo, por medio de quien son todas las cosas, y nosotros por medio de él.
7 Pero no en todos hay este conocimiento, porque algunos, acostumbrados hasta aquí a los ídolos, comen el alimento como si fuera sacrificado a los ídolos; y su conciencia, siendo débil, se contamina.
8 Si bien el alimento no nos hace más aceptos ante Dios, pues ni porque comamos seremos más, ni porque no comamos seremos menos.
9 Pero mirad que esta libertad vuestra no sea tropezadero para los que son débiles.
10 Porque si alguno te ve a ti, que tienes conocimiento, que estás sentado a la mesa en un lugar de ídolos, la conciencia de aquel que es débil, ¿no será alentada a comer de lo sacrificado a los ídolos?
11 Y por tu conocimiento perecerá el hermano débil por quien Cristo murió.
12 De esta manera, pues, pecando contra los hermanos, e hiriendo su débil conciencia, contra Cristo pecáis.
13 Por lo cual, si la comida le es a mi hermano ocasión de caer, jamás comeré carne para no hacer tropezar a mi hermano.
CHAPTER 8
There are many gods and many lords—To us there is one God (the Father) and one Lord, who is Christ.
1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
