제 13 장

암논과 다말

1 그 후에 이 일이 있으니라 다윗의 아들 압살롬에게 아름다운 누이가 있으니 이름은 다말이라 다윗의 다른 아들 암논이 그를 사랑하나

2 그는 처녀이므로 어찌할 수 없는 줄을 알고 암논이 그의 누이 다말 때문에 울화로 말미암아 병이 되니라

3 암논에게 요나답이라 하는 친구가 있으니 그는 다윗의 형 시므아의 아들이요 심히 간교한 자라

4 그가 암논에게 이르되 왕자여 당신은 어찌하여 나날이 이렇게 파리하여 가느냐 내게 말해 주지 아니하겠느냐 하니 암논이 말하되 내가 아우 압살롬의 누이 다말을 사랑함이니라 하니라

5 요나답이 그에게 이르되 침상에 누워 병든 체하다가 네 아버지가 너를 보러 오거든 너는 그에게 말하기를 원하건대 내 누이 다말이 와서 내게 떡을 먹이되 내가 보는 데에서 떡을 차려 그의 손으로 먹여 주게 하옵소서 하라 하니

6 암논이 곧 누워 병든 체하다가 왕이 와서 그를 볼 때에 암논이 왕께 아뢰되 원하건대 내 누이 다말이 와서 내가 보는 데에서 과자 두어 개를 만들어 그의 손으로 내게 먹여 주게 하옵소서 하니

7 다윗이 사람을 그의 집으로 보내 다말에게 이르되 이제 네 오라버니 암논의 집으로 가서 그를 위하여 음식을 차리라 한지라

8 다말이 그 오라버니 암논의 집에 이르매 그가 누웠더라 다말이 밀가루를 가지고 반죽하여 그가 보는 데서 과자를 만들고 그 과자를 굽고

9 그 냄비를 가져다가 그 앞에 쏟아 놓아도 암논이 먹기를 거절하고 암논이 이르되 모든 사람을 내게서 나가게 하라 하니 다 그를 떠나 나가니라

10 암논이 다말에게 이르되 음식물을 가지고 침실로 들어오라 내가 네 손에서 먹으리라 하니 다말이 자기가 만든 과자를 가지고 침실에 들어가 그의 오라버니 암논에게 이르러

11 그에게 먹이려고 가까이 가지고 갈 때에 암논이 그를 붙잡고 그에게 이르되 나의 누이야 와서 나와 동침하자 하는지라

12 그가 그에게 대답하되 아니라 내 오라버니여 나를 욕되게 하지 말라 이런 일은 이스라엘에서 마땅히 행하지 못할 것이니 이 어리석은 일을 행하지 말라

13 내가 이 수치를 지니고 어디로 가겠느냐 너도 이스라엘에서 어리석은 자 중의 하나가 되리라 이제 청하건대 왕께 말하라 그가 나를 네게 주기를 거절하지 아니하시리라 하되

14 암논이 그 말을 듣지 아니하고 다말보다 힘이 세므로 억지로 그와 동침하니라

15 그리하고 암논이 그를 심히 미워하니 이제 미워하는 미움이 전에 사랑하던 사랑보다 더한지라 암논이 그에게 이르되 일어나 가라 하니

16 다말이 그에게 이르되 옳지 아니하다 나를 쫓아보내는 이 큰 악은 아까 내게 행한 그 악보다 더하다 하되 암논이 그를 듣지 아니하고

17 그가 부리는 종을 불러 이르되 이 계집을 내게서 이제 내보내고 곧 문빗장을 지르라 하니

18 암논의 하인이 그를 끌어내고 곧 문빗장을 지르니라 다말이 1)채색옷을 입었으니 출가하지 아니한 공주는 이런 옷으로 단장하는 법이라

19 다말이 재를 자기의 머리에 덮어쓰고 그의 채색옷을 찢고 손을 머리 위에 얹고 가서 크게 울부짖으니라

20 그의 오라버니 압살롬이 그에게 이르되 네 오라버니 암논이 너와 함께 있었느냐 그러나 그는 네 오라버니이니 누이야 지금은 잠잠히 있고 이것으로 말미암아 근심하지 말라 하니라 이에 다말이 그의 오라버니 압살롬의 집에 있어 처량하게 지내니라

21 다윗 왕이 이 모든 일을 듣고 심히 노하니라

22 압살롬은 암논이 그의 누이 다말을 욕되게 하였으므로 그를 미워하여 암논에 대하여 잘잘못을 압살롬이 말하지 아니하니라

압살롬의 복수

23 만 이 년 후에 에브라임 곁 바알하솔에서 압살롬이 양 털을 깎는 일이 있으매 압살롬이 왕의 모든 아들을 청하고

24 압살롬이 왕께 나아가 말하되 이제 종에게 양 털 깎는 일이 있사오니 청하건대 왕은 신하들을 데리시고 당신의 종과 함께 가사이다 하니

25 왕이 압살롬에게 이르되 아니라 내 아들아 이제 우리가 다 갈 것 없다 네게 누를 끼칠까 하노라 하니라 압살롬이 그에게 간청하였으나 그가 가지 아니하고 그에게 복을 비는지라

26 압살롬이 이르되 그렇게 하지 아니하시려거든 청하건대 내 형 암논이 우리와 함께 가게 하옵소서 왕이 그에게 이르되 그가 너와 함께 갈 것이 무엇이냐 하되

27 압살롬이 간청하매 왕이 암논과 왕의 모든 아들을 그와 함께 그에게 보내니라

28 압살롬이 이미 그의 종들에게 명령하여 이르기를 너희는 이제 암논의 마음이 술로 즐거워할 때를 자세히 보다가 내가 너희에게 암논을 치라 하거든 그를 죽이라 두려워하지 말라 내가 너희에게 명령한 것이 아니냐 너희는 담대히 용기를 내라 한지라

29 압살롬의 종들이 압살롬의 명령대로 암논에게 행하매 왕의 모든 아들들이 일어나 각기 노새를 타고 도망하니라

30 그들이 길에 있을 때에 압살롬이 왕의 모든 아들들을 죽이고 하나도 남기지 아니하였다는 소문이 다윗에게 이르매

31 왕이 곧 일어나서 자기의 옷을 찢고 땅에 드러눕고 그의 신하들도 다 옷을 찢고 모셔 선지라

32 다윗의 형 시므아의 아들 요나답이 아뢰어 이르되 내 주여 젊은 왕자들이 다 죽임을 당한 줄로 생각하지 마옵소서 오직 암논만 죽었으리이다 그가 압살롬의 누이 다말을 욕되게 한 날부터 압살롬이 결심한 것이니이다

33 그러하온즉 내 주 왕이여 왕자들이 다 죽은 줄로 생각하여 상심하지 마옵소서 오직 암논만 죽었으리이다 하니라

34 이에 압살롬은 도망하니라 파수하는 청년이 눈을 들어 보니 보아라 뒷산 언덕길로 여러 사람이 오는도다

35 요나답이 왕께 아뢰되 보소서 왕자들이 오나이다 당신의 종이 말한 대로 되었나이다 하고

36 말을 마치자 왕자들이 이르러 소리를 높여 통곡하니 왕과 그의 모든 신하들도 심히 통곡하니라

37 압살롬은 도망하여 그술 왕 암미훌의 아들 달매에게로 갔고 다윗은 날마다 그의 아들로 말미암아 슬퍼하니라

38 압살롬이 도망하여 그술로 가서 거기에 산 지 삼 년이라

39 2)다윗 왕의 마음이 압살롬을 향하여 간절하니 암논은 이미 죽었으므로 왕이 위로를 받았음이더라

Y estaba Amnón angustiado hasta enfermarse por Tamar su hermana, pues por ser ella virgen, le parecía a Amnón que sería difícil hacerle cosa alguna. 3. Y Amnón tenía un amigo que se llamaba Jonadab, hijo de Simea, hermano de David; y Jonadab era hombre muy astuto. 4. Y este le dijo: Hijo del rey, ¿por qué de día en día vas enflaqueciendo así? ¿No me lo descubrirás a mí? Y Amnón le respondió: Yo amo a Tamar la hermana de Absalón mi hermano. 5. Y Jonadab le dijo: Acuéstate en tu cama, y finge que estás enfermo; y cuando tu padre viniere a visitarte, dile: Te ruego que venga mi hermana Tamar, para que me dé de comer, y prepare delante de mí alguna vianda, para que al verla yo la coma de su mano. 6. Se acostó, pues, Amnón, y fingió que estaba enfermo; y vino el rey a visitarle. Y dijo Amnón al rey: Yo te ruego que venga mi hermana Tamar, y haga delante de mí dos hojuelas, para que coma yo de su mano. 7. Y David envió a Tamar a su casa, diciendo: Ve ahora a casa de Amnón tu hermano, y hazle de comer. 8. Y fue Tamar a casa de su hermano Amnón, el cual estaba acostado; y tomó harina, y amasó, e hizo hojuelas delante de él y las coció. 9. Tomó luego la sartén, y las sacó delante de él; mas él no quiso comer. Y dijo Amnón: Echad fuera de aquí a todos. Y todos salieron de allí. 10. Entonces Amnón dijo a Tamar: Trae la comida a la alcoba, para que yo coma de tu mano. Y tomando Tamar las hojuelas que había preparado, las llevó a su hermano Amnón a la alcoba. 11. Y cuando ella se las puso delante para que comiese, asió de ella, y le dijo: Ven, hermana mía, acuéstate conmigo. 12. Ella entonces le respondió: No, hermano mío, no me hagas violencia; porque no se debe hacer así en Israel. No hagas tal vileza. 13. Porque ¿adónde iría yo con mi deshonra? Y aun tú serías estimado como uno de los perversos en Israel. Te ruego pues, ahora, que hables al rey, que él no me negará a ti. 14. Mas él no la quiso oír, sino que pudiendo más que ella, la forzó, y se acostó con ella. 15. Luego la aborreció Amnón con tan gran aborrecimiento, que el odio con que la aborreció fue mayor que el amor con que la había amado. Y le dijo Amnón: Levántate, y vete. 16. Y ella le respondió: No hay razón; mayor mal es este de arrojarme, que el que me has hecho. Mas él no la quiso oír, 17. sino que llamando a su criado que le servía, le dijo: Échame a esta fuera de aquí, y cierra tras ella la puerta. 18. Y llevaba ella un vestido de diversos colores, traje que vestían las hijas vírgenes de los reyes. Su criado, pues, la echó fuera, y cerró la puerta tras ella. 19. Entonces Tamar tomó ceniza y la esparció sobre su cabeza, y rasgó la ropa de colores de que estaba vestida, y puesta su mano sobre su cabeza, se fue gritando. Venganza y huida de Absalón 20. Y le dijo su hermano Absalón: ¿Ha estado contigo tu hermano Amnón? Pues calla ahora, hermana mía; tu hermano es; no se angustie tu corazón por esto. Y se quedó Tamar desconsolada en casa de Absalón su hermano. 21. Y luego que el rey David oyó todo esto, se enojó mucho. 22. Mas Absalón no habló con Amnón ni malo ni bueno; aunque Absalón aborrecía a Amnón, porque había forzado a Tamar su hermana. 23. Aconteció pasados dos años, que Absalón tenía esquiladores en Baal-hazor, que está junto a Efraín; y convidó Absalón a todos los hijos del rey. 24. Y vino Absalón al rey, y dijo: He aquí, tu siervo tiene ahora esquiladores; yo ruego que venga el rey y sus siervos con tu siervo. 25. Y respondió el rey a Absalón: No, hijo mío, no vamos todos, para que no te seamos gravosos. Y aunque porfió con él, no quiso ir, mas le bendijo. 26. Entonces dijo Absalón: Pues si no, te ruego que venga con nosotros Amnón mi hermano. Y el rey le respondió: ¿Para qué ha de ir contigo? 27. Pero como Absalón le importunaba, dejó ir con él a Amnón y a todos los hijos del rey. 28. Y Absalón había dado orden a sus criados, diciendo: Os ruego que miréis cuando el corazón de Amnón esté alegre por el vino; y al decir yo: Herid a Amnón, entonces matadle, y no temáis, pues yo os lo he mandado. Esforzaos, pues, y sed valientes. 29. Y los criados de Absalón hicieron con Amnón como Absalón les había mandado. Entonces se levantaron todos los hijos del rey, y montaron cada uno en su mula, y huyeron. 30. Estando ellos aún en el camino, llegó a David el rumor que decía: Absalón ha dado muerte a todos los hijos del rey, y ninguno de ellos ha quedado. 31. Entonces levantándose David, rasgó sus vestidos, y se echó en tierra, y todos sus criados que estaban junto a él también rasgaron sus vestidos. 32. Pero Jonadab, hijo de Simea hermano de David, habló y dijo: No diga mi señor que han dado muerte a todos los jóvenes hijos del rey, pues solo Amnón ha sido muerto; porque por mandato de Absalón esto había sido determinado desde el día en que Amnón forzó a Tamar su hermana. 33. Por tanto, ahora no ponga mi señor el rey en su corazón ese rumor que dice: Todos los hijos del rey han sido muertos; porque solo Amnón ha sido muerto. 34. Y Absalón huyó. Entre tanto, alzando sus ojos el joven que estaba de atalaya, miró, y he aquí mucha gente que venía por el camino a sus espaldas, del lado del monte. 35. Y dijo Jonadab al rey: He allí los hijos del rey que vienen; es así como tu siervo ha dicho. 36. Cuando él acabó de hablar, he aquí los hijos del rey que vinieron, y alzando su voz lloraron. Y también el mismo rey y todos sus siervos lloraron con muy grandes lamentos. 37. Mas Absalón huyó y se fue a Talmai hijo de Amiud, rey de Gesur. Y David lloraba por su hijo todos los días. 38. Así huyó Absalón y se fue a Gesur, y estuvo allá tres años. 39. Y el rey David deseaba ver a Absalón; pues ya estaba consolado acerca de Amnón, que había muerto. 2 #Samuel 13 Amnon and Tamar 1. Now Absalom, David’s son, had a beautiful sister, whose name was Tamar. And after a time Amnon, David’s son, loved her. 2. And Amnon was so tormented that he made himself ill because of his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed impossible to Amnon to do anything to her. 3. But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David’s brother. And Jonadab was a very crafty man. 4. And he said to him, “O son of the king, why are you so haggard morning after morning? Will you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.” 5. Jonadab said to him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill. And when your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Let my sister Tamar come and give me bread to eat, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.’” 6. So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill. And when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, “Please let my sister Tamar come and make a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.” 7. Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, “Go to your brother Amnon’s house and prepare food for him.” 8. So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house, where he was lying down. And she took dough and kneaded it and made cakes in his sight and baked the cakes. 9. And she took the pan and emptied it out before him, but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, “Send out everyone from me.” So everyone went out from him. 10. Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food into the chamber, that I may eat from your hand.” And Tamar took the cakes she had made and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother. 11. But when she brought them near him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, “Come, lie with me, my sister.” 12. She answered him, “No, my brother, do not violate me, for such a thing is not done in Israel; do not do this outrageous thing. 13. As for me, where could I carry my shame? And as for you, you would be as one of the outrageous fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from you.” 14. But he would not listen to her, and being stronger than she, he violated her and lay with her. 15. Then Amnon hated her with very great hatred, so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, “Get up! Go!” 16. But she said to him, “No, my brother, for this wrong in sending me away is greater than the other that you did to me.” But he would not listen to her. 17. He called the young man who served him and said, “Put this woman out of my presence and bolt the door after her.” 18. Now she was wearing a long robe with sleeves, for thus were the virgin daughters of the king dressed. So his servant put her out and bolted the door after her. 19. And Tamar put ashes on her head and tore the long robe that she wore. And she laid her hand on her head and went away, crying aloud as she went. 20. And her brother Absalom said to her, “Has Amnon your brother been with you? Now hold your peace, my sister. He is your brother; do not take this to heart.” So Tamar lived, a desolate woman, in her brother Absalom’s house. 21. When King David heard of all these things, he was very angry. 22. But Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad, for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had violated his sister Tamar. Absalom Murders Amnon 23. After two full years Absalom had sheepshearers at Baal-hazor, which is near Ephraim, and Absalom invited all the king’s sons. 24. And Absalom came to the king and said, “Behold, your servant has sheepshearers. Please let the king and his servants go with your servant.” 25. But the king said to Absalom, “No, my son, let us not all go, lest we be burdensome to you.” He pressed him, but he would not go but gave him his blessing. 26. Then Absalom said, “If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us.” And the king said to him, “Why should he go with you?” 27. But Absalom pressed him until he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him. 28. Then Absalom commanded his servants, “Mark when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon,’ then kill him. Do not fear; have I not commanded you? Be courageous and be valiant.” 29. So the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose, and each mounted his mule and fled. 30. While they were on the way, news came to David, “Absalom has struck down all the king’s sons, and not one of them is left.” 31. Then the king arose and tore his garments and lay on the earth. And all his servants who were standing by tore their garments. 32. But Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother, said, “Let not my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men, the king’s sons, for Amnon alone is dead. For by the command of Absalom this has been determined from the day he violated his sister Tamar. 33. Now therefore let not my lord the king so take it to heart as to suppose that all the king’s sons are dead, for Amnon alone is dead.” Absalom Flees to Geshur 34. But Absalom fled. And the young man who kept the watch lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, many people were coming from the road behind him by the side of the mountain. 35. And Jonadab said to the king, “Behold, the king’s sons have come; as your servant said, so it has come about.” 36. And as soon as he had finished speaking, behold, the king’s sons came and lifted up their voice and wept. And the king also and all his servants wept very bitterly. 37. But Absalom fled and went to Talmai the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son day after day. 38. So Absalom fled and went to Geshur, and was there three years. 39. And the spirit of the king longed to go out to Absalom, because he was comforted about Amnon, since he was dead.

Amnón y Tamar

Aconteció después de esto, que teniendo Absalón hijo de David una hermana hermosa que se llamaba Tamar, se enamoró de ella Amnón hijo de David.
Y estaba Amnón angustiado hasta enfermarse por Tamar su hermana, pues por ser ella virgen, le parecía a Amnón que sería difícil hacerle cosa alguna.
Y Amnón tenía un amigo que se llamaba Jonadab, hijo de Simea, hermano de David; y Jonadab era hombre muy astuto.
Y este le dijo: Hijo del rey, ¿por qué de día en día vas enflaqueciendo así? ¿No me lo descubrirás a mí? Y Amnón le respondió: Yo amo a Tamar la hermana de Absalón mi hermano.
Y Jonadab le dijo: Acuéstate en tu cama, y finge que estás enfermo; y cuando tu padre viniere a visitarte, dile: Te ruego que venga mi hermana Tamar, para que me dé de comer, y prepare delante de mí alguna vianda, para que al verla yo la coma de su mano.
Se acostó, pues, Amnón, y fingió que estaba enfermo; y vino el rey a visitarle. Y dijo Amnón al rey: Yo te ruego que venga mi hermana Tamar, y haga delante de mí dos hojuelas, para que coma yo de su mano.
Y David envió a Tamar a su casa, diciendo: Ve ahora a casa de Amnón tu hermano, y hazle de comer.
Y fue Tamar a casa de su hermano Amnón, el cual estaba acostado; y tomó harina, y amasó, e hizo hojuelas delante de él y las coció.
Tomó luego la sartén, y las sacó delante de él; mas él no quiso comer. Y dijo Amnón: Echad fuera de aquí a todos. Y todos salieron de allí.
Entonces Amnón dijo a Tamar: Trae la comida a la alcoba, para que yo coma de tu mano. Y tomando Tamar las hojuelas que había preparado, las llevó a su hermano Amnón a la alcoba.
Y cuando ella se las puso delante para que comiese, asió de ella, y le dijo: Ven, hermana mía, acuéstate conmigo.
Ella entonces le respondió: No, hermano mío, no me hagas violencia; porque no se debe hacer así en Israel. No hagas tal vileza.
Porque ¿adónde iría yo con mi deshonra? Y aun tú serías estimado como uno de los perversos en Israel. Te ruego pues, ahora, que hables al rey, que él no me negará a ti.
Mas él no la quiso oír, sino que pudiendo más que ella, la forzó, y se acostó con ella.
Luego la aborreció Amnón con tan gran aborrecimiento, que el odio con que la aborreció fue mayor que el amor con que la había amado. Y le dijo Amnón: Levántate, y vete.
Y ella le respondió: No hay razón; mayor mal es este de arrojarme, que el que me has hecho. Mas él no la quiso oír,
sino que llamando a su criado que le servía, le dijo: Échame a esta fuera de aquí, y cierra tras ella la puerta.
Y llevaba ella un vestido de diversos colores, traje que vestían las hijas vírgenes de los reyes. Su criado, pues, la echó fuera, y cerró la puerta tras ella.
Entonces Tamar tomó ceniza y la esparció sobre su cabeza, y rasgó la ropa de colores de que estaba vestida, y puesta su mano sobre su cabeza, se fue gritando.

Venganza y huida de Absalón
Y le dijo su hermano Absalón: ¿Ha estado contigo tu hermano Amnón? Pues calla ahora, hermana mía; tu hermano es; no se angustie tu corazón por esto. Y se quedó Tamar desconsolada en casa de Absalón su hermano.
Y luego que el rey David oyó todo esto, se enojó mucho.
Mas Absalón no habló con Amnón ni malo ni bueno; aunque Absalón aborrecía a Amnón, porque había forzado a Tamar su hermana.
Aconteció pasados dos años, que Absalón tenía esquiladores en Baal-hazor, que está junto a Efraín; y convidó Absalón a todos los hijos del rey.
Y vino Absalón al rey, y dijo: He aquí, tu siervo tiene ahora esquiladores; yo ruego que venga el rey y sus siervos con tu siervo.
Y respondió el rey a Absalón: No, hijo mío, no vamos todos, para que no te seamos gravosos. Y aunque porfió con él, no quiso ir, mas le bendijo.
Entonces dijo Absalón: Pues si no, te ruego que venga con nosotros Amnón mi hermano. Y el rey le respondió: ¿Para qué ha de ir contigo?
Pero como Absalón le importunaba, dejó ir con él a Amnón y a todos los hijos del rey.
Y Absalón había dado orden a sus criados, diciendo: Os ruego que miréis cuando el corazón de Amnón esté alegre por el vino; y al decir yo: Herid a Amnón, entonces matadle, y no temáis, pues yo os lo he mandado. Esforzaos, pues, y sed valientes.
Y los criados de Absalón hicieron con Amnón como Absalón les había mandado. Entonces se levantaron todos los hijos del rey, y montaron cada uno en su mula, y huyeron.
Estando ellos aún en el camino, llegó a David el rumor que decía: Absalón ha dado muerte a todos los hijos del rey, y ninguno de ellos ha quedado.
Entonces levantándose David, rasgó sus vestidos, y se echó en tierra, y todos sus criados que estaban junto a él también rasgaron sus vestidos.
Pero Jonadab, hijo de Simea hermano de David, habló y dijo: No diga mi señor que han dado muerte a todos los jóvenes hijos del rey, pues solo Amnón ha sido muerto; porque por mandato de Absalón esto había sido determinado desde el día en que Amnón forzó a Tamar su hermana.
Por tanto, ahora no ponga mi señor el rey en su corazón ese rumor que dice: Todos los hijos del rey han sido muertos; porque solo Amnón ha sido muerto.
Y Absalón huyó. Entre tanto, alzando sus ojos el joven que estaba de atalaya, miró, y he aquí mucha gente que venía por el camino a sus espaldas, del lado del monte.
Y dijo Jonadab al rey: He allí los hijos del rey que vienen; es así como tu siervo ha dicho.
Cuando él acabó de hablar, he aquí los hijos del rey que vinieron, y alzando su voz lloraron. Y también el mismo rey y todos sus siervos lloraron con muy grandes lamentos.
Mas Absalón huyó y se fue a Talmai hijo de Amiud, rey de Gesur. Y David lloraba por su hijo todos los días.
Así huyó Absalón y se fue a Gesur, y estuvo allá tres años.
Y el rey David deseaba ver a Absalón; pues ya estaba consolado acerca de Amnón, que había muerto.

Amnon and Tamar

Now Absalom, David’s son, had a beautiful sister, whose name was Tamar. And after a time Amnon, David’s son, loved her.
And Amnon was so tormented that he made himself ill because of his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed impossible to Amnon to do anything to her.
But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David’s brother. And Jonadab was a very crafty man.
And he said to him, “O son of the king, why are you so haggard morning after morning? Will you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”
Jonadab said to him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill. And when your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Let my sister Tamar come and give me bread to eat, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.’”
So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill. And when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, “Please let my sister Tamar come and make a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.”
Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, “Go to your brother Amnon’s house and prepare food for him.”
So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house, where he was lying down. And she took dough and kneaded it and made cakes in his sight and baked the cakes.
And she took the pan and emptied it out before him, but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, “Send out everyone from me.” So everyone went out from him.
Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food into the chamber, that I may eat from your hand.” And Tamar took the cakes she had made and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.
But when she brought them near him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, “Come, lie with me, my sister.”
She answered him, “No, my brother, do not violate me, for such a thing is not done in Israel; do not do this outrageous thing.
As for me, where could I carry my shame? And as for you, you would be as one of the outrageous fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from you.”
But he would not listen to her, and being stronger than she, he violated her and lay with her.
Then Amnon hated her with very great hatred, so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, “Get up! Go!”
But she said to him, “No, my brother, for this wrong in sending me away is greater than the other that you did to me.” But he would not listen to her.
He called the young man who served him and said, “Put this woman out of my presence and bolt the door after her.”
Now she was wearing a long robe with sleeves, for thus were the virgin daughters of the king dressed. So his servant put her out and bolted the door after her.
And Tamar put ashes on her head and tore the long robe that she wore. And she laid her hand on her head and went away, crying aloud as she went.
