제 10 장

북쪽 지파들의 배반(왕상 12:1-20)

1   르호보암이 세겜으로 갔으니 이는 온 이스라엘이 그를 왕으로 삼고자 하여 세겜에 이르렀음이더라

2   느밧의 아들 여로보암이 전에 솔로몬 왕의 낯을 피하여 애굽으로 도망하여 있었더니 이 일을 듣고 여로보암이 애굽에서부터 돌아오매

3   무리가 사람을 보내어 그를 불렀더라 여로보암과 온 이스라엘이 와서 르호보암에게 말하여 이르되

4   왕의 아버지께서 우리의 멍에를 무겁게 하였으나 왕은 이제 왕의 아버지께서 우리에게 시킨 고역과 메운 무거운 멍에를 가볍게 하소서 그리하시면 우리가 왕을 섬기겠나이다

5   르호보암이 그들에게 대답하되 삼 일 후에 다시 내게로 오라 하매 백성이 가니라

6   르호보암 왕이 그의 아버지 솔로몬의 생전에 그 앞에 모셨던 원로들과 의논하여 이르되 너희는 이 백성에게 어떻게 대답하도록 권고하겠느냐 하니

7   그들이 대답하여 이르되 왕이 만일 이 백성을 후대하여 기쁘게 하고 선한 말을 하시면 그들이 영원히 왕의 종이 되리이다 하나

8   왕은 원로들이 가르치는 것을 버리고 그 앞에 모시고 있는 자기와 함께 자라난 젊은 신하들과 의논하여

9   이르되 너희는 이 백성에게 어떻게 대답하도록 권고하겠느냐 백성이 내게 말하기를 왕의 아버지께서 우리에게 메운 멍에를 가볍게 하라 하였느니라 하니

10   함께 자라난 젊은 신하들이 왕께 말하여 이르되 이 백성들이 왕께 아뢰기를 왕의 아버지께서 우리의 멍에를 무겁게 하였으나 왕은 우리를 위하여 가볍게 하라 하였은즉 왕은 대답하시기를 내 새끼 손가락이 내 아버지의 허리보다 굵으니

11   내 아버지가 너희에게 무거운 멍에를 메게 하였으나 이제 나는 너희의 멍에를 더욱 무겁게 할지라 내 아버지는 가죽 채찍으로 너희를 치셨으나 나는 전갈 채찍으로 하리라 하소서 하더라

12   삼 일 만에 여로보암과 모든 백성이 르호보암에게 나왔으니 이는 왕이 명령하여 이르기를 삼 일 만에 내게로 다시 오라 하였음이라

13   왕이 포학한 말로 대답할새 르호보암이 원로들의 가르침을 버리고

14   젊은 신하들의 가르침을 따라 그들에게 말하여 이르되 내 아버지는 너희의 멍에를 무겁게 하였으나 나는 더 무겁게 할지라 내 아버지는 가죽 채찍으로 너희를 치셨으나 나는 전갈 채찍으로 치리라 하니라

15   왕이 이같이 백성의 말을 듣지 아니하였으니 이 일은 하나님께로 말미암아 난 것이라 여호와께서 전에 실로 사람 아히야로 하여금 느밧의 아들 여로보암에게 이르신 말씀을 응하게 하심이더라

16   온 이스라엘은 왕이 자기들의 말을 듣지 아니함을 보고 왕에게 대답하여 이르되 우리가 다윗과 무슨 관계가 있느냐 이새의 아들에게서 받을 유산이 없도다 이스라엘아 각각 너희의 장막으로 돌아가라 다윗이여 이제 너는 네 집이나 돌보라 하고 온 이스라엘이 그들의 장막으로 돌아가니라

17   그러나 유다 성읍들에 사는 이스라엘 자손들에게는 르호보암이 그들의 왕이 되었더라

18   르호보암 왕이 역군의 감독 하도람을 보냈더니 이스라엘 자손이 저를 돌로 쳐 죽인지라 르호보암 왕이 급히 수레에 올라 예루살렘으로 도망하였더라

19   이에 이스라엘이 다윗의 집을 배반하여 오늘날까지 이르니라

Rebelión de Israel

(1 R. 12.1-24)

1Roboam fue a Siquem, porque en Siquem se había reunido todo Israel para hacerlo rey. 2Y cuando lo oyó Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el cual estaba en Egipto, adonde había huido a causa del rey Salomón, volvió de Egipto. 3Y enviaron y le llamaron. Vino, pues, Jeroboam, y todo Israel, y hablaron a Roboam, diciendo: 4Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo; ahora alivia algo de la dura servidumbre y del pesado yugo con que tu padre nos apremió, y te serviremos. 5Y él les dijo: Volved a mí de aquí a tres días. Y el pueblo se fue.

6Entonces el rey Roboam tomó consejo con los ancianos que habían estado delante de Salomón su padre cuando vivía, y les dijo: ¿Cómo aconsejáis vosotros que responda a este pueblo? 7Y ellos le contestaron diciendo: Si te condujeres humanamente con este pueblo, y les agradares, y les hablares buenas palabras, ellos te servirán siempre. 8Mas él, dejando el consejo que le dieron los ancianos, tomó consejo con los jóvenes que se habían criado con él, y que estaban a su servicio. 9Y les dijo: ¿Qué aconsejáis vosotros que respondamos a este pueblo, que me ha hablado, diciendo: Alivia algo del yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros? 10Entonces los jóvenes que se habían criado con él, le contestaron: Así dirás al pueblo que te ha hablado diciendo: Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo, mas tú disminuye nuestra carga. Así les dirás: Mi dedo más pequeño es más grueso que los lomos de mi padre. 11Así que, si mi padre os cargó de yugo pesado, yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os castigó con azotes, y yo con escorpiones.

12Vino, pues, Jeroboam con todo el pueblo a Roboam al tercer día, según el rey les había mandado diciendo: Volved a mí de aquí a tres días. 13Y el rey les respondió ásperamente; pues dejó el rey Roboam el consejo de los ancianos, 14y les habló conforme al consejo de los jóvenes, diciendo: Mi padre hizo pesado vuestro yugo, pero yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os castigó con azotes, mas yo con escorpiones. 15Y no escuchó el rey al pueblo; porque la causa era de Dios, para que Jehová cumpliera la palabra que había hablado por Ahías silonita a Jeroboam hijo de Nabat.

16Y viendo todo Israel que el rey no les había oído, respondió el pueblo al rey, diciendo: ¿Qué parte tenemos nosotros con David? No tenemos herencia en el hijo de Isaí. ¡Israel, cada uno a sus tiendas! ¡David, mira ahora por tu casa! Así se fue todo Israel a sus tiendas. 17Mas reinó Roboam sobre los hijos de Israel que habitaban en las ciudades de Judá. 18Envió luego el rey Roboam a Adoram, que tenía cargo de los tributos; pero le apedrearon los hijos de Israel, y murió. Entonces se apresuró el rey Roboam, y subiendo en su carro huyó a Jerusalén. 19Así se apartó Israel de la casa de David hasta hoy.

The Revolt Against Rehoboam

1 Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king. 2And as soon as Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon), then Jeroboam returned from Egypt. 3And they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all Israel came and said to Rehoboam, 4“Your father made our yoke heavy. Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke on us, and we will serve you.” 5He said to them, “Come to me again in three days.” So the people went away.

6Then King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he was yet alive, saying, “How do you advise me to answer this people?” 7And they said to him, “If you will be good to this people and please them and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.” 8But he abandoned the counsel that the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him and stood before him. 9And he said to them, “What do you advise that we answer this people who have said to me, ‘Lighten the yoke that your father put on us’?” 10And the young men who had grown up with him said to him, “Thus shall you speak to the people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you lighten it for us’; thus shall you say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s thighs. 11And now, whereas my father laid on you a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.’”

12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king said, “Come to me again the third day.” 13And the king answered them harshly; and forsaking the counsel of the old men, 14King Rehoboam spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it. My father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.” 15So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a turn of affairs brought about by God that the Lord might fulfill his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

16And when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, “What portion have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. Each of you to your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, David.” So all Israel went to their tents. 17But Rehoboam reigned over the people of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah. 18Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was taskmaster over the forced labor, and the people of Israel stoned him to death with stones. And King Rehoboam quickly mounted his chariot to flee to Jerusalem. 19So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.
