제 25 장

유다 왕 아마샤(왕하 14:2-6)

1   아마샤가 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 이십오 세라 예루살렘에서 이십구 년 동안 다스리니라 그의 어머니의 이름은 여호앗단이요 예루살렘 사람이더라

2   아마샤가 여호와께서 보시기에 정직하게 행하기는 하였으나 온전한 마음으로 행하지 아니하였더라

3   그의 나라가 굳게 서매 그의 부왕을 죽인 신하들을 죽였으나

4   그들의 자녀들은 죽이지 아니하였으니 이는 모세의 율법책에 기록된 대로 함이라 곧 여호와께서 명령하여 이르시기를 자녀로 말미암아 아버지를 죽이지 말 것이요 아버지로 말미암아 자녀를 죽이지 말 것이라 오직 각 사람은 자기의 죄로 말미암아 죽을 것이니라 하셨더라

아마샤와 에돔의 전쟁(왕하 14:7)

5   아마샤가 유다 사람들을 모으고 그 여러 족속을 따라 천부장들과 백부장들을 세우되 유다와 베냐민을 함께 그리하고 이십 세 이상으로 계수하여 창과 방패를 잡고 능히 전장에 나갈 만한 자 삼십만 명을 얻고

6   또 은 백 달란트로 이스라엘 나라에서 큰 용사 십만 명을 고용하였더니

7   어떤 하나님의 사람이 아마샤에게 나아와서 이르되 왕이여 이스라엘 군대를 왕과 함께 가게 하지 마옵소서 여호와께서는 이스라엘 곧 온 에브라임 자손과 함께 하지 아니하시나니

8   왕이 만일 가시거든 힘써 싸우소서 하나님이 왕을 적군 앞에 엎드러지게 하시리이다 하나님은 능히 돕기도 하시고 능히 패하게도 하시나이다 하니

9   아마샤가 하나님의 사람에게 이르되 내가 백 달란트를 이스라엘 군대에게 주었으니 어찌할까 하나님의 사람이 말하되 여호와께서 능히 이보다 많은 것을 왕에게 주실 수 있나이다 하니라

10   아마샤가 이에 에브라임에서 자기에게 온 군대를 나누어 그들의 고향으로 돌아가게 하였더니 그 무리가 유다 사람에게 심히 노하여 분연히 고향으로 돌아갔더라

11   아마샤가 담력을 내어 그의 백성을 거느리고 소금 골짜기에 이르러 세일 자손 만 명을 죽이고

12   유다 자손이 또 만 명을 사로잡아 가지고 바위 꼭대기에 올라가서 거기서 밀쳐 내려뜨려서 그들의 온 몸이 부서지게 하였더라

13   아마샤가 자기와 함께 전장에 나가지 못하게 하고 돌려보낸 군사들이 사마리아에서부터 벧호론까지 유다 성읍들을 약탈하고 사람 삼천 명을 죽이고 물건을 많이 노략하였더라

14   아마샤가 에돔 사람들을 죽이고 돌아올 때에 세일 자손의 신들을 가져와서 자기의 신으로 세우고 그것들 앞에 경배하며 분향한지라

15   그러므로 여호와께서 아마샤에게 진노하사 한 선지자를 그에게 보내시니 그가 이르되 저 백성의 신들이 그들의 백성을 왕의 손에서 능히 구원하지 못하였거늘 왕은 어찌하여 그 신들에게 구하나이까 하며

16   선지자가 아직 그에게 말할 때에 왕이 그에게 이르되 우리가 너를 왕의 모사로 삼았느냐 그치라 어찌하여 맞으려 하느냐 하니 선지자가 그치며 이르되 왕이 이 일을 행하고 나의 경고를 듣지 아니하니 하나님이 왕을 멸하시기로 작정하신 줄 아노라 하였더라

유다와 이스라엘의 전쟁(왕하 14:8-20)

17   유다 왕 아마샤가 상의하고 예후의 손자 여호아하스의 아들 이스라엘 왕 요아스에게 사신을 보내어 이르되 오라 서로 대면하자 한지라

18   이스라엘 왕 요아스가 유다 왕 아마샤에게 사람을 보내어 이르되 레바논 가시나무가 레바논 백향목에게 전갈을 보내어 이르기를 네 딸을 내 아들에게 주어 아내로 삼게 하라 하였더니 레바논 들짐승이 지나가다가 그 가시나무를 짓밟았느니라

19   네가 에돔 사람들을 쳤다고 네 마음이 교만하여 자긍하는도다 네 궁에나 있으라 어찌하여 화를 자초하여 너와 유다가 함께 망하고자 하느냐 하나

20   아마샤가 듣지 아니하였으니 이는 하나님께로 말미암은 것이라 그들이 에돔 신들에게 구하였으므로 그 대적의 손에 넘기려 하심이더라

21   이스라엘 왕 요아스가 올라와서 유다 왕 아마샤와 더불어 유다의 벧세메스에서 대면하였더니

22   유다가 이스라엘 앞에서 패하여 각기 장막으로 도망한지라

23   이스라엘 왕 요아스가 벧세메스에서 여호아하스의 손자 요아스의 아들 유다 왕 아마샤를 사로잡고 예루살렘에 이르러 예루살렘 성벽을 에브라임 문에서부터 성 모퉁이 문까지 사백 규빗을 헐고

24   또 하나님의 전 안에서 오벧에돔이 지키는 모든 금은과 그릇과 왕궁의 재물을 빼앗고 또 사람들을 볼모로 잡아 가지고 사마리아로 돌아갔더라

25   이스라엘 왕 여호아하스의 아들 요아스가 죽은 후에도 유다 왕 요아스의 아들 아마샤가 십오 년 간 생존하였더라

26   아마샤의 이 외의 처음부터 끝까지의 행적은 유다와 이스라엘 열왕기에 기록되지 아니하였느냐

27   아마샤가 돌아서서 여호와를 버린 후로부터 예루살렘에서 무리가 그를 반역하였으므로 그가 라기스로 도망하였더니 반역한 무리가 사람을 라기스로 따라 보내어 그를 거기서 죽이게 하고

28   그의 시체를 말에 실어다가 그의 조상들과 함께 유다 성읍에 장사하였더라

Reinado de Amasías

(2 R. 14.1-22)

1De veinticinco años era Amasías cuando comenzó a reinar, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalén; el nombre de su madre fue Joadán, de Jerusalén. 2Hizo él lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová, aunque no de perfecto corazón. 3Y luego que fue confirmado en el reino, mató a los siervos que habían matado al rey su padre. 4Pero no mató a los hijos de ellos, según lo que está escrito en la ley, en el libro de Moisés, donde Jehová mandó diciendo: No morirán los padres por los hijos, ni los hijos por los padres; mas cada uno morirá por su pecado.

5Reunió luego Amasías a Judá, y con arreglo a las familias les puso jefes de millares y de centenas sobre todo Judá y Benjamín. Después puso en lista a todos los de veinte años arriba, y fueron hallados trescientos mil escogidos para salir a la guerra, que tenían lanza y escudo. 6Y de Israel tomó a sueldo por cien talentos de plata, a cien mil hombres valientes. 7Mas un varón de Dios vino a él y le dijo: Rey, no vaya contigo el ejército de Israel; porque Jehová no está con Israel, ni con todos los hijos de Efraín. 8Pero si vas así, si lo haces, y te esfuerzas para pelear, Dios te hará caer delante de los enemigos; porque en Dios está el poder, o para ayudar, o para derribar. 9Y Amasías dijo al varón de Dios: ¿Qué, pues, se hará de los cien talentos que he dado al ejército de Israel? Y el varón de Dios respondió: Jehová puede darte mucho más que esto. 10Entonces Amasías apartó el ejército de la gente que había venido a él de Efraín, para que se fuesen a sus casas; y ellos se enojaron grandemente contra Judá, y volvieron a sus casas encolerizados. 11Esforzándose entonces Amasías, sacó a su pueblo, y vino al Valle de la Sal, y mató de los hijos de Seir diez mil. 12Y los hijos de Judá tomaron vivos a otros diez mil, los cuales llevaron a la cumbre de un peñasco, y de allí los despeñaron, y todos se hicieron pedazos. 13Mas los del ejército que Amasías había despedido, para que no fuesen con él a la guerra, invadieron las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Bet-horón, y mataron a tres mil de ellos, y tomaron gran despojo.

14Volviendo luego Amasías de la matanza de los edomitas, trajo también consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seir, y los puso ante sí por dioses, y los adoró, y les quemó incienso. 15Por esto se encendió la ira de Jehová contra Amasías, y envió a él un profeta, que le dijo: ¿Por qué has buscado los dioses de otra nación, que no libraron a su pueblo de tus manos? 16Y hablándole el profeta estas cosas, él le respondió: ¿Te han puesto a ti por consejero del rey? Déjate de eso. ¿Por qué quieres que te maten? Y cuando terminó de hablar, el profeta dijo luego: Yo sé que Dios ha decretado destruirte, porque has hecho esto, y no obedeciste mi consejo.

17Y Amasías rey de Judá, después de tomar consejo, envió a decir a Joás hijo de Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel: Ven, y veámonos cara a cara. 18Entonces Joás rey de Israel envió a decir a Amasías rey de Judá: El cardo que estaba en el Líbano envió al cedro que estaba en el Líbano, diciendo: Da tu hija a mi hijo por mujer. Y he aquí que las fieras que estaban en el Líbano pasaron, y hollaron el cardo. 19Tú dices: He aquí he derrotado a Edom; y tu corazón se enaltece para gloriarte. Quédate ahora en tu casa. ¿Para qué provocas un mal en que puedas caer tú y Judá contigo?

20Mas Amasías no quiso oír; porque era la voluntad de Dios, que los quería entregar en manos de sus enemigos, por cuanto habían buscado los dioses de Edom. 21Subió, pues, Joás rey de Israel, y se vieron cara a cara él y Amasías rey de Judá en la batalla de Bet-semes, la cual es de Judá. 22Pero cayó Judá delante de Israel, y huyó cada uno a su casa. 23Y Joás rey de Israel apresó en Bet-semes a Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joás, hijo de Joacaz, y lo llevó a Jerusalén; y derribó el muro de Jerusalén desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta del ángulo, un tramo de cuatrocientos codos. 24Asimismo tomó todo el oro y la plata, y todos los utensilios que se hallaron en la casa de Dios en casa de Obed-edom, y los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos de los nobles; después volvió a Samaria.

25Y vivió Amasías hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, quince años después de la muerte de Joás hijo de Joacaz, rey de Israel. 26Los demás hechos de Amasías, primeros y postreros, ¿no están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel? 27Desde el tiempo en que Amasías se apartó de Jehová, empezaron a conspirar contra él en Jerusalén; y habiendo él huido a Laquis, enviaron tras él a Laquis, y allá lo mataron; 28y lo trajeron en caballos, y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la ciudad de Judá.

Amaziah Reigns in Judah

1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem. 2And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, yet not with a whole heart. 3And as soon as the royal power was firmly his, he killed his servants who had struck down the king his father. 4But he did not put their children to death, according to what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses, where the Lord commanded, “Fathers shall not die because of their children, nor children die because of their fathers, but each one shall die for his own sin.”

Amaziah’s Victories

5Then Amaziah assembled the men of Judah and set them by fathers’ houses under commanders of thousands and of hundreds for all Judah and Benjamin. He mustered those twenty years old and upward, and found that they were 300,000 choice men, fit for war, able to handle spear and shield. 6He hired also 100,000 mighty men of valor from Israel for 100 talents of silver. 7But a man of God came to him and said, “O king, do not let the army of Israel go with you, for the Lord is not with Israel, with all these Ephraimites. 8But go, act, be strong for the battle. Why should you suppose that God will cast you down before the enemy? For God has power to help or to cast down.” 9And Amaziah said to the man of God, “But what shall we do about the hundred talents that I have given to the army of Israel?” The man of God answered, “The Lord is able to give you much more than this.” 10Then Amaziah discharged the army that had come to him from Ephraim to go home again. And they became very angry with Judah and returned home in fierce anger. 11But Amaziah took courage and led out his people and went to the Valley of Salt and struck down 10,000 men of Seir. 12The men of Judah captured another 10,000 alive and took them to the top of a rock and threw them down from the top of the rock, and they were all dashed to pieces. 13But the men of the army whom Amaziah sent back, not letting them go with him to battle, raided the cities of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-horon, and struck down 3,000 people in them and took much spoil.

Amaziah’s Idolatry

14After Amaziah came from striking down the Edomites, he brought the gods of the men of Seir and set them up as his gods and worshiped them, making offerings to them. 15Therefore the Lord was angry with Amaziah and sent to him a prophet, who said to him, “Why have you sought the gods of a people who did not deliver their own people from your hand?” 16But as he was speaking, the king said to him, “Have we made you a royal counselor? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” So the prophet stopped, but said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”

Israel Defeats Amaziah

17 Then Amaziah king of Judah took counsel and sent to Joash the son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us look one another in the face.” 18And Joash the king of Israel sent word to Amaziah king of Judah, “A thistle on Lebanon sent to a cedar on Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son for a wife,’ and a wild beast of Lebanon passed by and trampled down the thistle. 19You say, ‘See, I have struck down Edom,’ and your heart has lifted you up in boastfulness. But now stay at home. Why should you provoke trouble so that you fall, you and Judah with you?”

20But Amaziah would not listen, for it was of God, in order that he might give them into the hand of their enemies, because they had sought the gods of Edom. 21So Joash king of Israel went up, and he and Amaziah king of Judah faced one another in battle at Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah. 22And Judah was defeated by Israel, and every man fled to his home. 23And Joash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem for 400 cubits, from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate. 24And he seized all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God, in the care of Obed-edom. He seized also the treasuries of the king’s house, also hostages, and he returned to Samaria.

25 Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel. 26Now the rest of the deeds of Amaziah, from first to last, are they not written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel? 27From the time when he turned away from the Lord they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish. But they sent after him to Lachish and put him to death there. 28And they brought him upon horses, and he was buried with his fathers in the city of David.
