#성경정독 #여호수아8장 #개역개정 #RVR1960 #ESV 여호수아 8장 공식 사이트 : http://www.prsi.org 본 영상은 CGNTV와 공동체성경읽기(PRS)가 공동기획하여 제작한 영상으로 무단으로 영상을 편집 및 재배포가 금지됩니다. 영상 제공 : CGNTV 제공 #공동체성경읽기#성경 #드라마바이블 #Bible #크리스천 #기독교 #설교 #말씀#성경낭독 제 8 장 아이 성을 점령하다 1. 여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르시되 두려워하지 말라 놀라지 말라 군사를 다 거느리고 일어나 아이로 올라가라 보라 내가 아이 왕과 그의 백성과 그의 성읍과 그의 땅을 다 네 손에 넘겨 주었으니 2. 너는 여리고와 그 왕에게 행한 것 같이 아이와 그 왕에게 행하되 오직 거기서 탈취할 물건과 가축은 스스로 가지라 너는 아이 성 뒤에 복병을 둘지니라 하시니 3. 이에 여호수아가 일어나서 군사와 함께 아이로 올라가려 하여 용사 삼만 명을 뽑아 밤에 보내며 4. 그들에게 명령하여 이르되 너희는 성읍 뒤로 가서 성읍을 향하여 매복하되 그 성읍에서 너무 멀리 하지 말고 다 스스로 준비하라 5. 나와 나를 따르는 모든 백성은 다 성읍으로 가까이 가리니 그들이 처음과 같이 우리에게로 쳐 올라올 것이라 그리 할 때에 우리가 그들 앞에서 도망하면 6. 그들이 나와서 우리를 추격하며 이르기를 그들이 처음과 같이 우리 앞에서 도망한다 하고 우리의 유인을 받아 그 성읍에서 멀리 떠날 것이라 우리가 그들 앞에서 도망하거든 7. 너희는 매복한 곳에서 일어나 그 성읍을 점령하라 너희 하나님 여호와께서 그 성읍을 너희 손에 주시리라 8. 너희가 그 성읍을 취하거든 그것을 불살라 여호와의 말씀대로 행하라 보라 내가 너희에게 명령하였느니라 하고 9. 그들을 보내매 그들이 매복할 곳으로 가서 아이 서쪽 벧엘과 아이 사이에 매복하였고 여호수아는 그 밤에 백성 가운데에서 잤더라 10. 여호수아가 아침에 일찍이 일어나 백성을 점호하고 이스라엘 장로들과 더불어 백성에 앞서 아이로 올라가매 11. 그와 함께 한 군사가 다 올라가서 그 성읍 앞에 가까이 이르러 아이 북쪽에 진 치니 그와 아이 사이에는 한 골짜기가 있더라 12. 그가 약 오천 명을 택하여 성읍 서쪽 벧엘과 아이 사이에 매복시키니 13. 이와 같이 성읍 북쪽에는 온 군대가 있고 성읍 서쪽에는 복병이 있었더라 여호수아가 그 밤에 골짜기 가운데로 들어가니 14. 아이 왕이 이를 보고 그 성읍 백성과 함께 일찍이 일어나 급히 나가 아라바 앞에 이르러 정한 때에 이스라엘과 싸우려 하나 성읍 뒤에 복병이 있는 줄은 알지 못하였더라 15. 여호수아와 온 이스라엘이 그들 앞에서 거짓으로 패한 척하여 광야 길로 도망하매 16. 그 성읍에 있는 모든 백성이 그들을 추격하려고 모여 여호수아를 추격하며 유인함을 받아 아이 성읍을 멀리 떠나니 17. 아이와 벧엘에 이스라엘을 따라가지 아니한 자가 하나도 없으며 성문을 열어 놓고 이스라엘을 추격하였더라 18. 여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르시되 네 손에 잡은 단창을 들어 아이를 가리키라 내가 이 성읍을 네 손에 넘겨 주리라 여호수아가 그의 손에 잡은 단창을 들어 그 성읍을 가리키니 19. 그의 손을 드는 순간에 복병이 그들의 자리에서 급히 일어나 성읍으로 달려 들어가서 점령하고 곧 성읍에 불을 놓았더라 20. 아이 사람이 뒤를 돌아본즉 그 성읍에 연기가 하늘에 닿은 것이 보이니 이 길로도 저 길로도 도망할 수 없이 되었고 광야로 도망하던 이스라엘 백성은 그 추격하던 자에게로 돌아섰더라 21. 여호수아와 온 이스라엘이 그 복병이 성읍을 점령함과 성읍에 연기가 오름을 보고 다시 돌이켜 아이 사람들을 쳐죽이고 22. 복병도 성읍에서 나와 그들을 치매 그들이 이스라엘 중간에 든지라 어떤 사람들은 이쪽에서 어떤 사람들은 저쪽에서 쳐죽여서 한 사람도 남거나 도망하지 못하게 하였고 23. 아이 왕을 사로잡아 여호수아 앞으로 끌어 왔더라 24. 이스라엘이 자기들을 광야로 추격하던 모든 아이 주민을 들에서 죽이되 그들을 다 칼날에 엎드러지게 하여 진멸하기를 마치고 온 이스라엘이 아이로 돌아와서 칼날로 죽이매 25. 그 날에 엎드러진 아이 사람들은 남녀가 모두 만 이천 명이라 26. 아이 주민들을 진멸하여 바치기까지 여호수아가 단창을 잡아 든 손을 거두지 아니하였고 27. 오직 그 성읍의 가축과 노략한 것은 여호와께서 여호수아에게 명령하신 대로 이스라엘이 탈취하였더라 28. 이에 여호수아가 아이를 불살라 그것으로 영원한 무더기를 만들었더니 오늘까지 황폐하였으며 29. 그가 또 아이 왕을 저녁 때까지 나무에 달았다가 해 질 때에 명령하여 그의 시체를 나무에서 내려 그 성문 어귀에 던지고 그 위에 돌로 큰 무더기를 쌓았더니 그것이 오늘까지 있더라 에발 산에서 율법을 낭독하다 30. 그 때에 여호수아가 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 위하여 에발 산에 한 제단을 쌓았으니 31. 이는 여호와의 종 모세가 이스라엘 자손에게 명령한 것과 모세의 율법책에 기록된 대로 쇠 연장으로 다듬지 아니한 새 돌로 만든 제단이라 무리가 여호와께 번제물과 화목제물을 그 위에 드렸으며 32. 여호수아가 거기서 모세가 기록한 율법을 이스라엘 자손의 목전에서 그 돌에 기록하매 33. 온 이스라엘과 그 장로들과 관리들과 재판장들과 본토인뿐 아니라 이방인까지 여호와의 언약궤를 멘 레위 사람 제사장들 앞에서 궤의 좌우에 서되 절반은 그리심 산 앞에, 절반은 에발 산 앞에 섰으니 이는 전에 여호와의 종 모세가 이스라엘 백성에게 축복하라고 명령한 대로 함이라 34. 그 후에 여호수아가 율법책에 기록된 모든 것 대로 축복과 저주하는 율법의 모든 말씀을 낭독하였으니 35. 모세가 명령한 것은 여호수아가 이스라엘 온 회중과 여자들과 아이와 그들 중에 동행하는 거류민들 앞에서 낭독하지 아니한 말이 하나도 없었더라 #Josué 8 Toma y destrucción de Hai 1. Jehová dijo a Josué: No temas ni desmayes; toma contigo toda la gente de guerra, y levántate y sube a Hai. Mira, yo he entregado en tu mano al rey de Hai, a su pueblo, a su ciudad y a su tierra. 2. Y harás a Hai y a su rey como hiciste a Jericó y a su rey; solo que sus despojos y sus bestias tomaréis para vosotros. Pondrás, pues, emboscadas a la ciudad detrás de ella. 3. Entonces se levantaron Josué y toda la gente de guerra, para subir contra Hai; y escogió Josué treinta mil hombres fuertes, los cuales envió de noche. 4. Y les mandó, diciendo: Atended, pondréis emboscada a la ciudad detrás de ella; no os alejaréis mucho de la ciudad, y estaréis todos dispuestos. 5. Y yo y todo el pueblo que está conmigo nos acercaremos a la ciudad; y cuando salgan ellos contra nosotros, como hicieron antes, huiremos delante de ellos. 6. Y ellos saldrán tras nosotros, hasta que los alejemos de la ciudad; porque dirán: Huyen de nosotros como la primera vez. Huiremos, pues, delante de ellos. 7. Entonces vosotros os levantaréis de la emboscada y tomaréis la ciudad; pues Jehová vuestro Dios la entregará en vuestras manos. 8. Y cuando la hayáis tomado, le prenderéis fuego. Haréis conforme a la palabra de Jehová; mirad que os lo he mandado. 9. Entonces Josué los envió; y ellos se fueron a la emboscada, y se pusieron entre Bet-el y Hai, al occidente de Hai; y Josué se quedó aquella noche en medio del pueblo. 10. Levantándose Josué muy de mañana, pasó revista al pueblo, y subió él, con los ancianos de Israel, delante del pueblo contra Hai. 11. Y toda la gente de guerra que con él estaba, subió y se acercó, y llegaron delante de la ciudad, y acamparon al norte de Hai; y el valle estaba entre él y Hai. 12. Y tomó como cinco mil hombres, y los puso en emboscada entre Bet-el y Hai, al occidente de la ciudad. 13. Así dispusieron al pueblo: todo el campamento al norte de la ciudad, y su emboscada al occidente de la ciudad, y Josué avanzó aquella noche hasta la mitad del valle. 14. Y aconteció que viéndolo el rey de Hai, él y su pueblo se apresuraron y madrugaron; y al tiempo señalado, los hombres de la ciudad salieron al encuentro de Israel para combatir, frente al Arabá, no sabiendo que estaba puesta emboscada a espaldas de la ciudad. 15. Entonces Josué y todo Israel se fingieron vencidos y huyeron delante de ellos por el camino del desierto. 16. Y todo el pueblo que estaba en Hai se juntó para seguirles; y siguieron a Josué, siendo así alejados de la ciudad. 17. Y no quedó hombre en Hai ni en Bet-el, que no saliera tras de Israel; y por seguir a Israel dejaron la ciudad abierta. 18. Entonces Jehová dijo a Josué: Extiende la lanza que tienes en tu mano hacia Hai, porque yo la entregaré en tu mano. Y Josué extendió hacia la ciudad la lanza que en su mano tenía. 19. Y levantándose prontamente de su lugar los que estaban en la emboscada, corrieron luego que él alzó su mano, y vinieron a la ciudad, y la tomaron, y se apresuraron a prenderle fuego. 20. Y los hombres de Hai volvieron el rostro, y al mirar, he aquí que el humo de la ciudad subía al cielo, y no pudieron huir ni a una parte ni a otra, porque el pueblo que iba huyendo hacia el desierto se volvió contra los que les seguían. 21. Josué y todo Israel, viendo que los de la emboscada habían tomado la ciudad, y que el humo de la ciudad subía, se volvieron y atacaron a los de Hai. 22. Y los otros salieron de la ciudad a su encuentro, y así fueron encerrados en medio de Israel, los unos por un lado, y los otros por el otro. Y los hirieron hasta que no quedó ninguno de ellos que escapase. 23. Pero tomaron vivo al rey de Hai, y lo trajeron a Josué. 24. Y cuando los israelitas acabaron de matar a todos los moradores de Hai en el campo y en el desierto a donde los habían perseguido, y todos habían caído a filo de espada hasta ser consumidos, todos los israelitas volvieron a Hai, y también la hirieron a filo de espada. 25. Y el número de los que cayeron aquel día, hombres y mujeres, fue de doce mil, todos los de Hai. 26. Porque Josué no retiró su mano que había extendido con la lanza, hasta que hubo destruido por completo a todos los moradores de Hai. 27. Pero los israelitas tomaron para sí las bestias y los despojos de la ciudad, conforme a la palabra de Jehová que le había mandado a Josué. 28. Y Josué quemó a Hai y la redujo a un montón de escombros, asolada para siempre hasta hoy. 29. Y al rey de Hai lo colgó de un madero hasta caer la noche; y cuando el sol se puso, mandó Josué que quitasen del madero su cuerpo, y lo echasen a la puerta de la ciudad; y levantaron sobre él un gran montón de piedras, que permanece hasta hoy. Lectura de la ley en el monte Ebal 30. Entonces Josué edificó un altar a Jehová Dios de Israel en el monte Ebal, 31. como Moisés siervo de Jehová lo había mandado a los hijos de Israel, como está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, un altar de piedras enteras sobre las cuales nadie alzó hierro; y ofrecieron sobre él holocaustos a Jehová, y sacrificaron ofrendas de paz. 32. También escribió allí sobre las piedras una copia de la ley de Moisés, la cual escribió delante de los hijos de Israel. 33. Y todo Israel, con sus ancianos, oficiales y jueces, estaba de pie a uno y otro lado del arca, en presencia de los sacerdotes levitas que llevaban el arca del pacto de Jehová, así los extranjeros como los naturales. La mitad de ellos estaba hacia el monte Gerizim, y la otra mitad hacia el monte Ebal, de la manera que Moisés, siervo de Jehová, lo había mandado antes, para que bendijesen primeramente al pueblo de Israel. 34. Después de esto, leyó todas las palabras de la ley, las bendiciones y las maldiciones, conforme a todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley. 35. No hubo palabra alguna de todo cuanto mandó Moisés, que Josué no hiciese leer delante de toda la congregación de Israel, y de las mujeres, de los niños, y de los extranjeros que moraban entre ellos. #Joshua 8 The Fall of Ai 1. And the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not fear and do not be dismayed. Take all the fighting men with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, and his people, his city, and his land. 2. And you shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only its spoil and its livestock you shall take as plunder for yourselves. Lay an ambush against the city, behind it.” 3. So Joshua and all the fighting men arose to go up to Ai. And Joshua chose 30,000 mighty men of valor and sent them out by night. 4. And he commanded them, “Behold, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind it. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you remain ready. 5. And I and all the people who are with me will approach the city. And when they come out against us just as before, we shall flee before them. 6. And they will come out after us, until we have drawn them away from the city. For they will say, ‘They are fleeing from us, just as before.’ So we will flee before them. 7. Then you shall rise up from the ambush and seize the city, for the Lord your God will give it into your hand. 8. And as soon as you have taken the city, you shall set the city on fire. You shall do according to the word of the Lord. See, I have commanded you.” 9. So Joshua sent them out. And they went to the place of ambush and lay between Bethel and Ai, to the west of Ai, but Joshua spent that night among the people. 10. Joshua arose early in the morning and mustered the people and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai. 11. And all the fighting men who were with him went up and drew near before the city and encamped on the north side of Ai, with a ravine between them and Ai. 12. He took about 5,000 men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, to the west of the city. 13. So they stationed the forces, the main encampment that was north of the city and its rear guard west of the city. But Joshua spent that night in the valley. 14. And as soon as the king of Ai saw this, he and all his people, the men of the city, hurried and went out early to the appointed place toward the Arabah to meet Israel in battle. But he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city. 15. And Joshua and all Israel pretended to be beaten before them and fled in the direction of the wilderness. 16. So all the people who were in the city were called together to pursue them, and as they pursued Joshua they were drawn away from the city. 17. Not a man was left in Ai or Bethel who did not go out after Israel. They left the city open and pursued Israel. 18. Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand.” And Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city. 19. And the men in the ambush rose quickly out of their place, and as soon as he had stretched out his hand, they ran and entered the city and captured it. And they hurried to set the city on fire. 20. So when the men of Ai looked back, behold, the smoke of the city went up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that, for the people who fled to the wilderness turned back against the pursuers. 21. And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had captured the city, and that the smoke of the city went up, then they turned back and struck down the men of Ai. 22. And the others came out from the city against them, so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side. And Israel struck them down, until there was left none that survived or escaped. 23. But the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him near to Joshua. 24. When Israel had finished killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the open wilderness where they pursued them, and all of them to the very last had fallen by the edge of the sword, all Israel returned to Ai and struck it down with the edge of the sword. 25. And all who fell that day, both men and women, were 12,000, all the people of Ai. 26. But Joshua did not draw back his hand with which he stretched out the javelin until he had devoted all the inhabitants of Ai to destruction. 27. Only the livestock and the spoil of that city Israel took as their plunder, according to the word of the Lord that he commanded Joshua. 28. So Joshua burned Ai and made it forever a heap of ruins, as it is to this day. 29. And he hanged the king of Ai on a tree until evening. And at sunset Joshua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree and threw it at the entrance of the gate of the city and raised over it a great heap of stones, which stands there to this day. Joshua Renews the Covenant 30. At that time Joshua built an altar to the Lord, the God of Israel, on Mount Ebal, 31. just as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded the people of Israel, as it is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, “an altar of uncut stones, upon which no man has wielded an iron tool.” And they offered on it burnt offerings to the Lord and sacrificed peace offerings. 32. And there, in the presence of the people of Israel, he wrote on the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he had written. 33. And all Israel, sojourner as well as native born, with their elders and officers and their judges, stood on opposite sides of the ark before the Levitical priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, half of them in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, just as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded at the first, to bless the people of Israel. 34. And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the Book of the Law. 35. There was not a word of all that Moses commanded that Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, and the women, and the little ones, and the sojourners who lived among them.

아이 성을 점령하다

에발 산에서 율법을 낭독하다
그 때에 여호수아가 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 위하여 에발 산에 한 제단을 쌓았으니

온 이스라엘과 그 장로들과 관리들과 재판장들과 본토인뿐 아니라 이방인까지 여호와의 언약궤를 멘 레위 사람 제사장들 앞에서 궤의 좌우에 서되 절반은 그리심 산 앞에, 절반은 에발 산 앞에 섰으니 이는 전에 여호와의 종 모세가 이스라엘 백성에게 축복하라고 명령한 대로 함이라
그 후에 여호수아가 율법책에 기록된 모든 것 대로 축복과 저주하는 율법의 모든 말씀을 낭독하였으니
모세가 명령한 것은 여호수아가 이스라엘 온 회중과 여자들과 아이와 그들 중에 동행하는 거류민들 앞에서 낭독하지 아니한 말이 하나도 없었더라

#Josué 8

Toma y destrucción de Hai

Jehová dijo a Josué: No temas ni desmayes; toma contigo toda la gente de guerra, y levántate y sube a Hai. Mira, yo he entregado en tu mano al rey de Hai, a su pueblo, a su ciudad y a su tierra.
Y harás a Hai y a su rey como hiciste a Jericó y a su rey; solo que sus despojos y sus bestias tomaréis para vosotros. Pondrás, pues, emboscadas a la ciudad detrás de ella.
Entonces se levantaron Josué y toda la gente de guerra, para subir contra Hai; y escogió Josué treinta mil hombres fuertes, los cuales envió de noche.
Y les mandó, diciendo: Atended, pondréis emboscada a la ciudad detrás de ella; no os alejaréis mucho de la ciudad, y estaréis todos dispuestos.
Y yo y todo el pueblo que está conmigo nos acercaremos a la ciudad; y cuando salgan ellos contra nosotros, como hicieron antes, huiremos delante de ellos.
Y ellos saldrán tras nosotros, hasta que los alejemos de la ciudad; porque dirán: Huyen de nosotros como la primera vez. Huiremos, pues, delante de ellos.
Entonces vosotros os levantaréis de la emboscada y tomaréis la ciudad; pues Jehová vuestro Dios la entregará en vuestras manos.
Y cuando la hayáis tomado, le prenderéis fuego. Haréis conforme a la palabra de Jehová; mirad que os lo he mandado.
Entonces Josué los envió; y ellos se fueron a la emboscada, y se pusieron entre Bet-el y Hai, al occidente de Hai; y Josué se quedó aquella noche en medio del pueblo.
Levantándose Josué muy de mañana, pasó revista al pueblo, y subió él, con los ancianos de Israel, delante del pueblo contra Hai.
Y toda la gente de guerra que con él estaba, subió y se acercó, y llegaron delante de la ciudad, y acamparon al norte de Hai; y el valle estaba entre él y Hai.
Y tomó como cinco mil hombres, y los puso en emboscada entre Bet-el y Hai, al occidente de la ciudad.
Así dispusieron al pueblo: todo el campamento al norte de la ciudad, y su emboscada al occidente de la ciudad, y Josué avanzó aquella noche hasta la mitad del valle.
Y aconteció que viéndolo el rey de Hai, él y su pueblo se apresuraron y madrugaron; y al tiempo señalado, los hombres de la ciudad salieron al encuentro de Israel para combatir, frente al Arabá, no sabiendo que estaba puesta emboscada a espaldas de la ciudad.
Entonces Josué y todo Israel se fingieron vencidos y huyeron delante de ellos por el camino del desierto.
Y todo el pueblo que estaba en Hai se juntó para seguirles; y siguieron a Josué, siendo así alejados de la ciudad.
Y no quedó hombre en Hai ni en Bet-el, que no saliera tras de Israel; y por seguir a Israel dejaron la ciudad abierta.
Entonces Jehová dijo a Josué: Extiende la lanza que tienes en tu mano hacia Hai, porque yo la entregaré en tu mano. Y Josué extendió hacia la ciudad la lanza que en su mano tenía.
Y levantándose prontamente de su lugar los que estaban en la emboscada, corrieron luego que él alzó su mano, y vinieron a la ciudad, y la tomaron, y se apresuraron a prenderle fuego.
Y los hombres de Hai volvieron el rostro, y al mirar, he aquí que el humo de la ciudad subía al cielo, y no pudieron huir ni a una parte ni a otra, porque el pueblo que iba huyendo hacia el desierto se volvió contra los que les seguían.
Josué y todo Israel, viendo que los de la emboscada habían tomado la ciudad, y que el humo de la ciudad subía, se volvieron y atacaron a los de Hai.
Y los otros salieron de la ciudad a su encuentro, y así fueron encerrados en medio de Israel, los unos por un lado, y los otros por el otro. Y los hirieron hasta que no quedó ninguno de ellos que escapase.
Pero tomaron vivo al rey de Hai, y lo trajeron a Josué.
Y cuando los israelitas acabaron de matar a todos los moradores de Hai en el campo y en el desierto a donde los habían perseguido, y todos habían caído a filo de espada hasta ser consumidos, todos los israelitas volvieron a Hai, y también la hirieron a filo de espada.
Y el número de los que cayeron aquel día, hombres y mujeres, fue de doce mil, todos los de Hai.
Porque Josué no retiró su mano que había extendido con la lanza, hasta que hubo destruido por completo a todos los moradores de Hai.
Pero los israelitas tomaron para sí las bestias y los despojos de la ciudad, conforme a la palabra de Jehová que le había mandado a Josué.
Y Josué quemó a Hai y la redujo a un montón de escombros, asolada para siempre hasta hoy.
Y al rey de Hai lo colgó de un madero hasta caer la noche; y cuando el sol se puso, mandó Josué que quitasen del madero su cuerpo, y lo echasen a la puerta de la ciudad; y levantaron sobre él un gran montón de piedras, que permanece hasta hoy.

Lectura de la ley en el monte Ebal
Entonces Josué edificó un altar a Jehová Dios de Israel en el monte Ebal,
como Moisés siervo de Jehová lo había mandado a los hijos de Israel, como está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, un altar de piedras enteras sobre las cuales nadie alzó hierro; y ofrecieron sobre él holocaustos a Jehová, y sacrificaron ofrendas de paz.
También escribió allí sobre las piedras una copia de la ley de Moisés, la cual escribió delante de los hijos de Israel.
Y todo Israel, con sus ancianos, oficiales y jueces, estaba de pie a uno y otro lado del arca, en presencia de los sacerdotes levitas que llevaban el arca del pacto de Jehová, así los extranjeros como los naturales. La mitad de ellos estaba hacia el monte Gerizim, y la otra mitad hacia el monte Ebal, de la manera que Moisés, siervo de Jehová, lo había mandado antes, para que bendijesen primeramente al pueblo de Israel.
Después de esto, leyó todas las palabras de la ley, las bendiciones y las maldiciones, conforme a todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley.
No hubo palabra alguna de todo cuanto mandó Moisés, que Josué no hiciese leer delante de toda la congregación de Israel, y de las mujeres, de los niños, y de los extranjeros que moraban entre ellos.

#Joshua 8

The Fall of Ai

And the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not fear and do not be dismayed. Take all the fighting men with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, and his people, his city, and his land.
And you shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only its spoil and its livestock you shall take as plunder for yourselves. Lay an ambush against the city, behind it.”
So Joshua and all the fighting men arose to go up to Ai. And Joshua chose 30,000 mighty men of valor and sent them out by night.
And he commanded them, “Behold, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind it. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you remain ready.
And I and all the people who are with me will approach the city. And when they come out against us just as before, we shall flee before them.
And they will come out after us, until we have drawn them away from the city. For they will say, ‘They are fleeing from us, just as before.’ So we will flee before them.
Then you shall rise up from the ambush and seize the city, for the Lord your God will give it into your hand.
And as soon as you have taken the city, you shall set the city on fire. You shall do according to the word of the Lord. See, I have commanded you.”
So Joshua sent them out. And they went to the place of ambush and lay between Bethel and Ai, to the west of Ai, but Joshua spent that night among the people.
Joshua arose early in the morning and mustered the people and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.
And all the fighting men who were with him went up and drew near before the city and encamped on the north side of Ai, with a ravine between them and Ai.
He took about 5,000 men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, to the west of the city.
So they stationed the forces, the main encampment that was north of the city and its rear guard west of the city. But Joshua spent that night in the valley.
And as soon as the king of Ai saw this, he and all his people, the men of the city, hurried and went out early to the appointed place toward the Arabah to meet Israel in battle. But he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.
And Joshua and all Israel pretended to be beaten before them and fled in the direction of the wilderness.
So all the people who were in the city were called together to pursue them, and as they pursued Joshua they were drawn away from the city.
Not a man was left in Ai or Bethel who did not go out after Israel. They left the city open and pursued Israel.
Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand.” And Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.
And the men in the ambush rose quickly out of their place, and as soon as he had stretched out his hand, they ran and entered the city and captured it. And they hurried to set the city on fire.
So when the men of Ai looked back, behold, the smoke of the city went up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that, for the people who fled to the wilderness turned back against the pursuers.
And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had captured the city, and that the smoke of the city went up, then they turned back and struck down the men of Ai.
And the others came out from the city against them, so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side. And Israel struck them down, until there was left none that survived or escaped.
But the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him near to Joshua.
When Israel had finished killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the open wilderness where they pursued them, and all of them to the very last had fallen by the edge of the sword, all Israel returned to Ai and struck it down with the edge of the sword.
And all who fell that day, both men and women, were 12,000, all the people of Ai.
But Joshua did not draw back his hand with which he stretched out the javelin until he had devoted all the inhabitants of Ai to destruction.
Only the livestock and the spoil of that city Israel took as their plunder, according to the word of the Lord that he commanded Joshua.
So Joshua burned Ai and made it forever a heap of ruins, as it is to this day.
And he hanged the king of Ai on a tree until evening. And at sunset Joshua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree and threw it at the entrance of the gate of the city and raised over it a great heap of stones, which stands there to this day.

Joshua Renews the Covenant
At that time Joshua built an altar to the Lord, the God of Israel, on Mount Ebal,
just as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded the people of Israel, as it is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, “an altar of uncut stones, upon which no man has wielded an iron tool.” And they offered on it burnt offerings to the Lord and sacrificed peace offerings.
And there, in the presence of the people of Israel, he wrote on the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he had written.
And all Israel, sojourner as well as native born, with their elders and officers and their judges, stood on opposite sides of the ark before the Levitical priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, half of them in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, just as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded at the first, to bless the people of Israel.
And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the Book of the Law.
There was not a word of all that Moses commanded that Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, and the women, and the little ones, and the sojourners who lived among them.
