유다 왕 히스기야(대하 29:1-2; 31:1)

1 이스라엘의 왕 엘라의 아들 호세아 제삼년에 유다 왕 아하스의 아들 히스기야가 왕이 되니

2 그가 왕이 될 때에 나이가 이십오 세라 예루살렘에서 이십구 년간 다스리니라 그의 어머니의 이름은 아비요 스가리야의 딸이더라

3 히스기야가 그의 조상 다윗의 모든 행위와 같이 여호와께서 보시기에 정직하게 행하여

4 그가 여러 산당들을 제거하며 주상을 깨뜨리며 아세라 목상을 찍으며 모세가 만들었던 놋뱀을 이스라엘 자손이 이때까지 향하여 분향하므로 그것을 부수고 1)느후스단이라 일컬었더라

5 히스기야가 이스라엘 하나님 여호와를 의지하였는데 그의 전후 유다 여러 왕 중에 그러한 자가 없었으니

6 곧 그가 여호와께 연합하여 그에게서 떠나지 아니하고 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 계명을 지켰더라

7 여호와께서 그와 함께 하시매 그가 어디로 가든지 형통하였더라 저가 앗수르 왕을 배반하고 섬기지 아니하였고

8 그가 블레셋 사람들을 쳐서 가사와 그 사방에 이르고 망대에서부터 견고한 성까지 이르렀더라

9 히스기야 왕 제사년 곧 이스라엘의 왕 엘라의 아들 호세아 제칠년에 앗수르의 왕 살만에셀이 사마리아로 올라와서 에워쌌더라

10 삼 년 후에 그 성읍이 함락되니 곧 히스기야 왕의 제육년이요 이스라엘 왕 호세아의 제구년에 사마리아가 함락되매

11 앗수르 왕이 이스라엘을 사로잡아 앗수르에 이르러 고산 강 가에 있는 할라와 하볼과 메대 사람의 여러 성읍에 두었으니

12 이는 그들이 하나님 여호와의 말씀을 듣지 아니하고 그의 언약과 여호와의 종 모세가 명령한 모든 것을 따르지 아니하였음이더라

앗수르 사람들이 예루살렘을 위협하다(대하 32:1-19; 사 36:1-22)

13 히스기야 왕 제십사년에 앗수르의 왕 산헤립이 올라와서 유다 모든 견고한 성읍들을 쳐서 점령하매

14 유다의 왕 히스기야가 라기스로 사람을 보내어 앗수르 왕에게 이르되 내가 범죄하였나이다 나를 떠나 돌아가소서 왕이 내게 지우시는 것을 내가 당하리이다 하였더니 앗수르 왕이 곧 은 삼백 달란트와 금 삼십 달란트를 정하여 유다 왕 히스기야에게 내게 한지라

15 히스기야가 이에 여호와의 성전과 왕궁 곳간에 있는 은을 다 주었고

16 또 그 때에 유다 왕 히스기야가 여호와의 성전 문의 금과 자기가 모든 기둥에 입힌 금을 벗겨 모두 앗수르 왕에게 주었더라

17 앗수르 왕이 다르단과 랍사리스와 랍사게로 하여금 대군을 거느리고 라기스에서부터 예루살렘으로 가서 히스기야 왕을 치게 하매 그들이 예루살렘으로 올라가니라 그들이 올라가서 윗못 수도 곁 곧 세탁자의 밭에 있는 큰 길에 이르러 서니라

18 그들이 왕을 부르매 힐기야의 아들로서 왕궁의 책임자인 엘리야김과 서기관 셉나와 아삽의 아들 사관 요아가 그에게 나가니

19 랍사게가 그들에게 이르되 너희는 히스기야에게 말하라 대왕 앗수르 왕의 말씀이 네가 의뢰하는 이 의뢰가 무엇이냐

20 네가 싸울 만한 계교와 용력이 있다고 한다마는 이는 입에 붙은 말 뿐이라 네가 이제 누구를 의뢰하고 나를 반역하였느냐

21 이제 네가 너를 위하여 저 상한 갈대 지팡이 애굽을 의뢰하도다 사람이 그것을 의지하면 그의 손에 찔려 들어갈지라 애굽의 왕 바로는 그에게 의뢰하는 모든 자에게 이와 같으니라

22 너희가 내게 이르기를 우리는 우리 하나님 여호와를 의뢰하노라 하리라마는 히스기야가 그들의 산당들과 제단을 제거하고 유다와 예루살렘 사람에게 명령하기를 예루살렘 이 제단 앞에서만 예배하라 하지 아니하였느냐 하셨나니

23 청하건대 이제 너는 내 주 앗수르 왕과 내기하라 네가 만일 말을 탈 사람을 낼 수 있다면 나는 네게 말 이천 마리를 주리라

24 네가 어찌 내 주의 신하 중 지극히 작은 지휘관 한 사람인들 물리치며 애굽을 의뢰하고 그 병거와 기병을 얻을 듯하냐

25 내가 어찌 여호와의 뜻이 아니고야 이제 이 곳을 멸하러 올라왔겠느냐 여호와께서 전에 내게 이르시기를 이 땅으로 올라와서 쳐서 멸하라 하셨느니라 하는지라

26 힐기야의 아들 엘리야김과 셉나와 요아가 랍사게에게 이르되 우리가 알아듣겠사오니 청하건대 아람 말로 당신의 종들에게 말씀하시고 성 위에 있는 백성이 듣는 데서 유다 말로 우리에게 말씀하지 마옵소서

27 랍사게가 그에게 이르되 내 주께서 네 주와 네게만 이 말을 하라고 나를 보내신 것이냐 성 위에 앉은 사람들도 너희와 함께 자기의 대변을 먹게 하고 자기의 소변을 마시게 하신 것이 아니냐 하고

28 랍사게가 드디어 일어서서 유다 말로 크게 소리 질러 불러 이르되 너희는 대왕 앗수르 왕의 말씀을 들으라

29 왕의 말씀이 너희는 히스기야에게 속지 말라 그가 너희를 내 손에서 건져내지 못하리라

30 또한 히스기야가 너희에게 여호와를 의뢰하라 함을 듣지 말라 그가 이르기를 여호와께서 반드시 우리를 건지실지라 이 성읍이 앗수르 왕의 손에 함락되지 아니하게 하시리라 할지라도

31 너희는 히스기야의 말을 듣지 말라 앗수르 왕의 말씀이 너희는 내게 항복하고 내게로 나아오라 그리하고 너희는 각각 그의 포도와 무화과를 먹고 또한 각각 자기의 우물의 물을 마시라

32 내가 장차 와서 너희를 한 지방으로 옮기리니 그 곳은 너희 본토와 같은 지방 곧 곡식과 포도주가 있는 지방이요 떡과 포도원이 있는 지방이요 기름 나는 감람과 꿀이 있는 지방이라 너희가 살고 죽지 아니하리라 히스기야가 너희를 설득하여 이르기를 여호와께서 우리를 건지시리라 하여도 히스기야에게 듣지 말라

33 민족의 신들 중에 어느 한 신이 그의 땅을 앗수르 왕의 손에서 건진 자가 있느냐

34 하맛과 아르밧의 신들이 어디 있으며 스발와임과 헤나와 아와의 신들이 어디 있느냐 그들이 사마리아를 내 손에서 건졌느냐

35 민족의 모든 신들 중에 누가 그의 땅을 내 손에서 건졌기에 여호와가 예루살렘을 내 손에서 건지겠느냐 하셨느니라

36 그러나 백성이 잠잠하고 한 마디도 그에게 대답하지 아니하니 이는 왕이 명령하여 대답하지 말라 하였음이라

37 이에 힐기야의 아들로서 왕궁 내의 책임자인 엘리야김과 서기관 셉나와 아삽의 아들 사관 요아가 옷을 찢고 히스기야에게 나아가서 랍사게의 말을 전하니라

En el tercer año de Oseas hijo de Ela, rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Ezequías hijo de Acaz rey de Judá. 2. Cuando comenzó a reinar era de veinticinco años, y reinó en Jerusalén veintinueve años. El nombre de su madre fue Abi hija de Zacarías. 3. Hizo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová, conforme a todas las cosas que había hecho David su padre. 4. Él quitó los lugares altos, y quebró las imágenes, y cortó los símbolos de Asera, e hizo pedazos la serpiente de bronce que había hecho Moisés, porque hasta entonces le quemaban incienso los hijos de Israel; y la llamó Nehustán. 5. En Jehová Dios de Israel puso su esperanza; ni después ni antes de él hubo otro como él entre todos los reyes de Judá. 6. Porque siguió a Jehová, y no se apartó de él, sino que guardó los mandamientos que Jehová prescribió a Moisés. 7. Y Jehová estaba con él; y adondequiera que salía, prosperaba. En el año sexto de Ezequías, el cual era el año noveno de Oseas rey de Israel, fue tomada Samaria. 11. Y el rey de Asiria llevó cautivo a Israel a Asiria, y los puso en Halah, en Habor junto al río Gozán, y en las ciudades de los medos; 12. por cuanto no habían atendido a la voz de Jehová su Dios, sino que habían quebrantado su pacto; y todas las cosas que Moisés siervo de Jehová había mandado, no las habían escuchado, ni puesto por obra. Senaquerib invade a Judá (2 Cr. 32.1-19; Is. 36.1-22) 13. A los catorce años del rey Ezequías, subió Senaquerib rey de Asiria contra todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá, y las tomó. 14. Y habiendo subido, vinieron y acamparon junto al acueducto del estanque de arriba, en el camino de la heredad del Lavador. 18. Llamaron luego al rey, y salió a ellos Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, mayordomo, y Sebna escriba, y Joa hijo de Asaf, canciller. 19. Y les dijo el Rabsaces: Decid ahora a Ezequías: Así dice el gran rey de Asiria: ¿Qué confianza es esta en que te apoyas? 20. Dices (pero son palabras vacías): Consejo tengo y fuerzas para la guerra. Mas ¿en qué confías, que te has rebelado contra mí? 21. He aquí que confías en este báculo de caña cascada, en Egipto, en el cual si alguno se apoyare, se le entrará por la mano y la traspasará. Tal es Faraón rey de Egipto para todos los que en él confían. 22. Y si me decís: Nosotros confiamos en Jehová nuestro Dios, ¿no es este aquel cuyos lugares altos y altares ha quitado Ezequías, y ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalén: Delante de este altar adoraréis en Jerusalén? 23. Ahora, pues, yo te ruego que des rehenes a mi señor, el rey de Asiria, y yo te daré dos mil caballos, si tú puedes dar jinetes para ellos. 24. ¿Cómo, pues, podrás resistir a un capitán, al menor de los siervos de mi señor, aunque estés confiado en Egipto con sus carros y su gente de a caballo? 25. ¿Acaso he venido yo ahora sin Jehová a este lugar, para destruirlo? Jehová me ha dicho: Sube a esta tierra, y destrúyela. 26. Entonces dijo Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, y Sebna y Joa, al Rabsaces: Te rogamos que hables a tus siervos en arameo, porque nosotros lo entendemos, y no hables con nosotros en lengua de Judá a oídos del pueblo que está sobre el muro. 27. Y el Rabsaces les dijo: ¿Me ha enviado mi señor para decir estas palabras a ti y a tu señor, y no a los hombres que están sobre el muro, expuestos a comer su propio estiércol y beber su propia orina con vosotros? 28. Entonces el Rabsaces se puso en pie y clamó a gran voz en lengua de Judá, y habló diciendo: Oíd la palabra del gran rey, el rey de Asiria. 29. Así ha dicho el rey: No os engañe Ezequías, porque no os podrá librar de mi mano. 30. Y no os haga Ezequías confiar en Jehová, diciendo: Ciertamente nos librará Jehová, y esta ciudad no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria. 31. No escuchéis a Ezequías, porque así dice el rey de Asiria: Haced conmigo paz, y salid a mí, y coma cada uno de su vid y de su higuera, y beba cada uno las aguas de su pozo, 32. hasta que yo venga y os lleve a una tierra como la vuestra, tierra de grano y de vino, tierra de pan y de viñas, tierra de olivas, de aceite, y de miel; y viviréis, y no moriréis. No oigáis a Ezequías, porque os engaña cuando dice: Jehová nos librará. 33. ¿Acaso alguno de los dioses de las naciones ha librado su tierra de la mano del rey de Asiria? 34. ¿Dónde está el dios de Hamat y de Arfad? ¿Dónde está el dios de Sefarvaim, de Hena, y de Iva? ¿Pudieron estos librar a Samaria de mi mano? 35. ¿Qué dios de todos los dioses de estas tierras ha librado su tierra de mi mano, para que Jehová libre de mi mano a Jerusalén? 36. Pero el pueblo calló, y no le respondió palabra; porque había mandamiento del rey, el cual había dicho: No le respondáis. 37. Entonces Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, mayordomo, y Sebna escriba, y Joa hijo de Asaf, canciller, vinieron a Ezequías, rasgados sus vestidos, y le contaron las palabras del Rabsaces. 2 #Kings 18 Hezekiah Reigns in Judah 1. In the third year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel, Hezekiah the son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign. 2. He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah. 3. And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that David his father had done. 4. He removed the high places and broke the pillars and cut down the Asherah. And he broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the people of Israel had made offerings to it (it was called Nehushtan). 5. He trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him. 6. For he held fast to the Lord. He did not depart from following him, but kept the commandments that the Lord commanded Moses. 7. And the Lord was with him; wherever he went out, he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and would not serve him. 8. He struck down the Philistines as far as Gaza and its territory, from watchtower to fortified city. 9. In the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it, 10. and at the end of three years he took it. In the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken. 11. The king of Assyria carried the Israelites away to Assyria and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes, 12. because they did not obey the voice of the Lord their God but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded. They neither listened nor obeyed. Sennacherib Attacks Judah 13. In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them. 14. And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “I have done wrong; withdraw from me. Whatever you impose on me I will bear.” And the king of Assyria required of Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold. 15. And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the king’s house. 16. At that time Hezekiah stripped the gold from the doors of the temple of the Lord and from the doorposts that Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid and gave it to the king of Assyria. 17. And the king of Assyria sent the Tartan, the Rab-saris, and the Rabshakeh with a great army from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. When they arrived, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is on the highway to the Washer’s Field. 18. And when they called for the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the secretary, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder. 19. And the Rabshakeh said to them, “Say to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: On what do you rest this trust of yours? 20. Do you think that mere words are strategy and power for war? In whom do you now trust, that you have rebelled against me? 21. Behold, you are trusting now in Egypt, that broken reed of a staff, which will pierce the hand of any man who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him. 22. But if you say to me, “We trust in the Lord our God,” is it not he whose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, “You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem”? 23. Come now, make a wager with my master the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them. 24. How then can you repulse a single captain among the least of my master’s servants, when you trust in Egypt for chariots and for horsemen? 25. Moreover, is it without the Lord that I have come up against this place to destroy it? The Lord said to me, “Go up against this land and destroy it.”’” 26. Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, said to the Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it. Do not speak to us in the language of Judah within the hearing of the people who are on the wall.” 27. But the Rabshakeh said to them, “Has my master sent me to speak these words to your master and to you, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are doomed with you to eat their own dung and to drink their own urine?” 28. Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out in a loud voice in the language of Judah: “Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria! 29. Thus says the king: ‘Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you out of my hand. 30. Do not let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord by saying, The Lord will surely deliver us, and this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’ 31. Do not listen to Hezekiah, for thus says the king of Assyria: ‘Make your peace with me and come out to me. Then each one of you will eat of his own vine, and each one of his own fig tree, and each one of you will drink the water of his own cistern, 32. until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and honey, that you may live, and not die. And do not listen to Hezekiah when he misleads you by saying, “The Lord will deliver us.” 33. Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? 34. Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? 35. Who among all the gods of the lands have delivered their lands out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’” 36. But the people were silent and answered him not a word, for the king’s command was, “Do not answer him.” 37. Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn and told him the words of the Rabshakeh.

Reinado de Ezequías

(2 Cr. 29.1-2)

En el tercer año de Oseas hijo de Ela, rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Ezequías hijo de Acaz rey de Judá.
Cuando comenzó a reinar era de veinticinco años, y reinó en Jerusalén veintinueve años. El nombre de su madre fue Abi hija de Zacarías.
Hizo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová, conforme a todas las cosas que había hecho David su padre.
Él quitó los lugares altos, y quebró las imágenes, y cortó los símbolos de Asera, e hizo pedazos la serpiente de bronce que había hecho Moisés, porque hasta entonces le quemaban incienso los hijos de Israel; y la llamó Nehustán.
En Jehová Dios de Israel puso su esperanza; ni después ni antes de él hubo otro como él entre todos los reyes de Judá.
Porque siguió a Jehová, y no se apartó de él, sino que guardó los mandamientos que Jehová prescribió a Moisés.
Y Jehová estaba con él; y adondequiera que salía, prosperaba. Él se rebeló contra el rey de Asiria, y no le sirvió.
Hirió también a los filisteos hasta Gaza y sus fronteras, desde las torres de las atalayas hasta la ciudad fortificada.

Caída de Samaria
En el cuarto año del rey Ezequías, que era el año séptimo de Oseas hijo de Ela, rey de Israel, subió Salmanasar rey de los asirios contra Samaria, y la sitió,
y la tomaron al cabo de tres años. En el año sexto de Ezequías, el cual era el año noveno de Oseas rey de Israel, fue tomada Samaria.
Y el rey de Asiria llevó cautivo a Israel a Asiria, y los puso en Halah, en Habor junto al río Gozán, y en las ciudades de los medos;
por cuanto no habían atendido a la voz de Jehová su Dios, sino que habían quebrantado su pacto; y todas las cosas que Moisés siervo de Jehová había mandado, no las habían escuchado, ni puesto por obra.

Senaquerib invade a Judá
(2 Cr. 32.1-19; Is. 36.1-22)
A los catorce años del rey Ezequías, subió Senaquerib rey de Asiria contra todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá, y las tomó.
Entonces Ezequías rey de Judá envió a decir al rey de Asiria que estaba en Laquis: Yo he pecado; apártate de mí, y haré todo lo que me impongas. Y el rey de Asiria impuso a Ezequías rey de Judá trescientos talentos de plata, y treinta talentos de oro.
Dio, por tanto, Ezequías toda la plata que fue hallada en la casa de Jehová, y en los tesoros de la casa real.
Entonces Ezequías quitó el oro de las puertas del templo de Jehová y de los quiciales que el mismo rey Ezequías había cubierto de oro, y lo dio al rey de Asiria.
Después el rey de Asiria envió contra el rey Ezequías al Tartán, al Rabsaris y al Rabsaces, con un gran ejército, desde Laquis contra Jerusalén, y subieron y vinieron a Jerusalén. Y habiendo subido, vinieron y acamparon junto al acueducto del estanque de arriba, en el camino de la heredad del Lavador.
Llamaron luego al rey, y salió a ellos Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, mayordomo, y Sebna escriba, y Joa hijo de Asaf, canciller.
Y les dijo el Rabsaces: Decid ahora a Ezequías: Así dice el gran rey de Asiria: ¿Qué confianza es esta en que te apoyas?
Dices (pero son palabras vacías): Consejo tengo y fuerzas para la guerra. Mas ¿en qué confías, que te has rebelado contra mí?
He aquí que confías en este báculo de caña cascada, en Egipto, en el cual si alguno se apoyare, se le entrará por la mano y la traspasará. Tal es Faraón rey de Egipto para todos los que en él confían.
Y si me decís: Nosotros confiamos en Jehová nuestro Dios, ¿no es este aquel cuyos lugares altos y altares ha quitado Ezequías, y ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalén: Delante de este altar adoraréis en Jerusalén?
Ahora, pues, yo te ruego que des rehenes a mi señor, el rey de Asiria, y yo te daré dos mil caballos, si tú puedes dar jinetes para ellos.
¿Cómo, pues, podrás resistir a un capitán, al menor de los siervos de mi señor, aunque estés confiado en Egipto con sus carros y su gente de a caballo?
¿Acaso he venido yo ahora sin Jehová a este lugar, para destruirlo? Jehová me ha dicho: Sube a esta tierra, y destrúyela.
Entonces dijo Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, y Sebna y Joa, al Rabsaces: Te rogamos que hables a tus siervos en arameo, porque nosotros lo entendemos, y no hables con nosotros en lengua de Judá a oídos del pueblo que está sobre el muro.
Y el Rabsaces les dijo: ¿Me ha enviado mi señor para decir estas palabras a ti y a tu señor, y no a los hombres que están sobre el muro, expuestos a comer su propio estiércol y beber su propia orina con vosotros?
Entonces el Rabsaces se puso en pie y clamó a gran voz en lengua de Judá, y habló diciendo: Oíd la palabra del gran rey, el rey de Asiria.
Así ha dicho el rey: No os engañe Ezequías, porque no os podrá librar de mi mano.
Y no os haga Ezequías confiar en Jehová, diciendo: Ciertamente nos librará Jehová, y esta ciudad no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.
No escuchéis a Ezequías, porque así dice el rey de Asiria: Haced conmigo paz, y salid a mí, y coma cada uno de su vid y de su higuera, y beba cada uno las aguas de su pozo,
hasta que yo venga y os lleve a una tierra como la vuestra, tierra de grano y de vino, tierra de pan y de viñas, tierra de olivas, de aceite, y de miel; y viviréis, y no moriréis. No oigáis a Ezequías, porque os engaña cuando dice: Jehová nos librará.
¿Acaso alguno de los dioses de las naciones ha librado su tierra de la mano del rey de Asiria?
¿Dónde está el dios de Hamat y de Arfad? ¿Dónde está el dios de Sefarvaim, de Hena, y de Iva? ¿Pudieron estos librar a Samaria de mi mano?
¿Qué dios de todos los dioses de estas tierras ha librado su tierra de mi mano, para que Jehová libre de mi mano a Jerusalén?
Pero el pueblo calló, y no le respondió palabra; porque había mandamiento del rey, el cual había dicho: No le respondáis.
Entonces Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, mayordomo, y Sebna escriba, y Joa hijo de Asaf, canciller, vinieron a Ezequías, rasgados sus vestidos, y le contaron las palabras del Rabsaces.

Hezekiah Reigns in Judah

In the third year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel, Hezekiah the son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign.
He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that David his father had done.
He removed the high places and broke the pillars and cut down the Asherah. And he broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the people of Israel had made offerings to it (it was called Nehushtan).
He trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him.
For he held fast to the Lord. He did not depart from following him, but kept the commandments that the Lord commanded Moses.
And the Lord was with him; wherever he went out, he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and would not serve him.
He struck down the Philistines as far as Gaza and its territory, from watchtower to fortified city.
In the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it,
and at the end of three years he took it. In the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
The king of Assyria carried the Israelites away to Assyria and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,
because they did not obey the voice of the Lord their God but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded. They neither listened nor obeyed.

Sennacherib Attacks Judah
In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.
