제 11 장

솔로몬의 마음이 여호와를 떠나다

1 솔로몬 왕이 바로의 딸 외에 이방의 많은 여인을 사랑하였으니 곧 모압과 암몬과 에돔과 시돈과 헷 여인이라

2 여호와께서 일찍이 이 여러 백성에 대하여 이스라엘 자손에게 말씀하시기를 너희는 그들과 서로 통혼하지 말며 그들도 너희와 서로 통혼하게 하지 말라 그들이 반드시 너희의 마음을 돌려 그들의 신들을 따르게 하리라 하셨으나 솔로몬이 그들을 사랑하였더라

3 왕은 후궁이 칠백 명이요 첩이 삼백 명이라 그의 여인들이 왕의 마음을 돌아서게 하였더라

4 솔로몬의 나이가 많을 때에 그의 여인들이 그의 마음을 돌려 다른 신들을 따르게 하였으므로 왕의 마음이 그의 아버지 다윗의 마음과 같지 아니하여 그의 하나님 여호와 앞에 온전하지 못하였으니

5 이는 시돈 사람의 여신 아스다롯을 따르고 암몬 사람의 가증한 밀곰을 따름이라

6 솔로몬이 여호와의 눈앞에서 악을 행하여 그의 아버지 다윗이 여호와를 온전히 따름 같이 따르지 아니하고

7 모압의 가증한 그모스를 위하여 예루살렘 앞 산에 산당을 지었고 또 암몬 자손의 가증한 몰록을 위하여 그와 같이 하였으며

8 그가 또 그의 이방 여인들을 위하여 다 그와 같이 한지라 그들이 자기의 신들에게 분향하며 제사하였더라

9 솔로몬이 마음을 돌려 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 떠나므로 여호와께서 그에게 진노하시니라 여호와께서 일찍이 두 번이나 그에게 나타나시고

10 이 일에 대하여 명령하사 다른 신을 따르지 말라 하셨으나 그가 여호와의 명령을 지키지 않았으므로

11 여호와께서 솔로몬에게 말씀하시되 네게 이러한 일이 있었고 또 네가 내 언약과 내가 네게 명령한 법도를 지키지 아니하였으니 내가 반드시 이 나라를 네게서 빼앗아 네 신하에게 주리라

12 그러나 네 아버지 다윗을 위하여 네 세대에는 이 일을 행하지 아니하고 네 아들의 손에서 빼앗으려니와

13 오직 내가 이 나라를 다 빼앗지 아니하고 내 종 다윗과 내가 택한 예루살렘을 위하여 한 지파를 네 아들에게 주리라 하셨더라

솔로몬의 대적

14 여호와께서 에돔 사람 하닷을 일으켜 솔로몬의 대적이 되게 하시니 그는 왕의 자손으로서 에돔에 거하였더라

15 전에 다윗이 에돔에 있을 때에 군대 지휘관 요압이 가서 죽임을 당한 자들을 장사하고 에돔의 남자를 다 쳐서 죽였는데

16 요압은 에돔의 남자를 다 없애기까지 이스라엘 무리와 함께 여섯 달 동안 그 곳에 머물렀더라

17 그 때에 하닷은 작은 아이라 그의 아버지 신하 중 에돔 사람 몇몇과 함께 도망하여 애굽으로 가려 하여

18 미디안을 떠나 바란에 이르고 거기서 사람을 데리고 애굽으로 가서 애굽 왕 바로에게 나아가매 바로가 그에게 집과 먹을 양식을 주며 또 토지를 주었더라

19 하닷이 바로의 눈 앞에 크게 은총을 얻었으므로 바로가 자기의 처제 곧 왕비 다브네스의 아우를 그의 아내로 삼으매

20 다브네스의 아우가 그로 말미암아 아들 그누밧을 낳았더니 다브네스가 그 아이를 바로의 궁중에서 젖을 떼게 하매 그누밧이 바로의 궁에서 바로의 아들 가운데 있었더라

21 하닷이 애굽에 있어서 다윗이 그의 조상들과 함께 잔 것과 군대 지휘관 요압이 죽은 것을 듣고 바로에게 아뢰되 나를 보내어 내 고국으로 가게 하옵소서

22 바로가 그에게 이르되 네가 나와 함께 있어 무슨 부족함이 있기에 네 고국으로 가기를 구하느냐 대답하되 없나이다 그러나 아무쪼록 나를 보내옵소서 하였더라

23 하나님이 또 엘리아다의 아들 르손을 일으켜 솔로몬의 대적자가 되게 하시니 그는 그의 주인 소바 왕 하닷에셀에게서 도망한 자라

24 다윗이 소바 사람을 죽일 때에 르손이 사람들을 자기에게 모으고 그 무리의 괴수가 되어 다메섹으로 가서 살다가 거기서 왕이 되었더라

25 솔로몬의 일평생에 하닷이 끼친 환난 외에 르손이 수리아 왕이 되어 이스라엘을 대적하고 미워하였더라

여로보암에게 하신 여호와의 말씀

26 솔로몬의 신하 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 또한 손을 들어 왕을 대적하였으니 그는 에브라임 족속인 스레다 사람이요 그의 어머니의 이름은 스루아이니 과부더라

27 그가 손을 들어 왕을 대적하는 까닭은 이러하니라 솔로몬이 밀로를 건축하고 그의 아버지 다윗의 성읍이 무너진 것을 수축하였는데

28 이 사람 여로보암은 큰 용사라 솔로몬이 이 청년의 부지런함을 보고 세워 요셉 족속의 일을 감독하게 하였더니

29 그 즈음에 여로보암이 예루살렘에서 나갈 때에 실로 사람 선지자 아히야가 길에서 그를 만나니 아히야가 새 의복을 입었고 그 두 사람만 들에 있었더라

30 아히야가 자기가 입은 새 옷을 잡아 열두 조각으로 찢고

31 여로보암에게 이르되 너는 열 조각을 가지라 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 말씀이 내가 이 나라를 솔로몬의 손에서 찢어 빼앗아 열 지파를 네게 주고

32 오직 내 종 다윗을 위하고 이스라엘 모든 지파 중에서 택한 성읍 예루살렘을 위하여 한 지파를 솔로몬에게 주리니

33 이는 그들이 나를 버리고 시돈 사람의 여신 아스다롯과 모압의 신 그모스와 암몬 자손의 신 밀곰을 경배하며 그의 아버지 다윗이 행함 같지 아니하여 내 길로 행하지 아니하며 나 보기에 정직한 일과 내 법도와 내 율례를 행하지 아니함이니라

34 그러나 내가 택한 내 종 다윗이 내 명령과 내 법도를 지켰으므로 내가 그를 위하여 솔로몬의 생전에는 온 나라를 그의 손에서 빼앗지 아니하고 주관하게 하려니와

35 내가 그의 아들의 손에서 나라를 빼앗아 그 열 지파를 네게 줄 것이요

36 그의 아들에게는 내가 한 지파를 주어서 내가 거기에 내 이름을 두고자 하여 택한 성읍 예루살렘에서 내 종 다윗이 항상 내 앞에 등불을 가지고 있게 하리라

37 내가 너를 취하리니 너는 네 마음에 원하는 대로 다스려 이스라엘 위에 왕이 되되

38 네가 만일 내가 명령한 모든 일에 순종하고 내 길로 행하며 내 눈에 합당한 일을 하며 내 종 다윗이 행함 같이 내 율례와 명령을 지키면 내가 너와 함께 있어 내가 다윗을 위하여 세운 것 같이 너를 위하여 견고한 집을 세우고 이스라엘을 네게 주리라

39 내가 이로 말미암아 다윗의 자손을 괴롭게 할 것이나 영원히 하지는 아니하리라 하셨느니라 한지라

40 이러므로 솔로몬이 여로보암을 죽이려 하매 여로보암이 일어나 애굽으로 도망하여 애굽 왕 시삭에게 이르러 솔로몬이 죽기까지 애굽에 있으니라

솔로몬이 죽다(대하 9:29-31)

41 솔로몬의 남은 사적과 그의 행한 모든 일과 그의 지혜는 솔로몬의 실록에 기록되지 아니하였느냐

42 솔로몬이 예루살렘에서 온 이스라엘을 다스린 날 수가 사십 년이라

43 솔로몬이 그의 조상들과 함께 자매 그의 아버지 다윗의 성읍에 장사되고 그의 아들 르호보암이 대신하여 왕이 되니라

Pero el rey Salomón amó, además de la hija de Faraón, a muchas mujeres extranjeras; a las de Moab, a las de Amón, a las de Edom, a las de Sidón, y a las heteas; 2. gentes de las cuales Jehová había dicho a los hijos de Israel: No os llegaréis a ellas, ni ellas se llegarán a vosotros; porque ciertamente harán inclinar vuestros corazones tras sus dioses. A estas, pues, se juntó Salomón con amor. 3. Y tuvo setecientas mujeres reinas y trescientas concubinas; y sus mujeres desviaron su corazón. 4. Y cuando Salomón era ya viejo, sus mujeres inclinaron su corazón tras dioses ajenos, y su corazón no era perfecto con Jehová su Dios, como el corazón de su padre David. 5. Porque Salomón siguió a Astoret, diosa de los sidonios, y a Milcom, ídolo abominable de los amonitas. 6. E hizo Salomón lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová, y no siguió cumplidamente a Jehová como David su padre. 7. Entonces edificó Salomón un lugar alto a Quemos, ídolo abominable de Moab, en el monte que está enfrente de Jerusalén, y a Moloc, ídolo abominable de los hijos de Amón. 8. Así hizo para todas sus mujeres extranjeras, las cuales quemaban incienso y ofrecían sacrificios a sus dioses. 9. Y se enojó Jehová contra Salomón, por cuanto su corazón se había apartado de Jehová Dios de Israel, que se le había aparecido dos veces, 10. y le había mandado acerca de esto, que no siguiese a dioses ajenos; mas él no guardó lo que le mandó Jehová. 11. Y dijo Jehová a Salomón: Por cuanto ha habido esto en ti, y no has guardado mi pacto y mis estatutos que yo te mandé, romperé de ti el reino, y lo entregaré a tu siervo. 12. Sin embargo, no lo haré en tus días, por amor a David tu padre; lo romperé de la mano de tu hijo. 13. Pero no romperé todo el reino, sino que daré una tribu a tu hijo, por amor a David mi siervo, y por amor a Jerusalén, la cual yo he elegido. 14. Y Jehová suscitó un adversario a Salomón: Hadad edomita, de sangre real, el cual estaba en Edom. 15. Porque cuando David estaba en Edom, y subió Joab el general del ejército a enterrar los muertos, y mató a todos los varones de Edom 16. (porque seis meses habitó allí Joab, y todo Israel, hasta que hubo acabado con todo el sexo masculino en Edom), 17. Hadad huyó, y con él algunos varones edomitas de los siervos de su padre, y se fue a Egipto; era entonces Hadad muchacho pequeño. 18. Y se levantaron de Madián, y vinieron a Parán; y tomando consigo hombres de Parán, vinieron a Egipto, a Faraón rey de Egipto, el cual les dio casa y les señaló alimentos, y aun les dio tierra. 19. Y halló Hadad gran favor delante de Faraón, el cual le dio por mujer la hermana de su esposa, la hermana de la reina Tahpenes. 20. Y la hermana de Tahpenes le dio a luz su hijo Genubat, al cual destetó Tahpenes en casa de Faraón; y estaba Genubat en casa de Faraón entre los hijos de Faraón. 21. Y oyendo Hadad en Egipto que David había dormido con sus padres, y que era muerto Joab general del ejército, Hadad dijo a Faraón: Déjame ir a mi tierra. 22. Faraón le respondió: ¿Por qué? ¿Qué te falta conmigo, que procuras irte a tu tierra? Él respondió: Nada; con todo, te ruego que me dejes ir. 23. Dios también levantó por adversario contra Salomón a Rezón hijo de Eliada, el cual había huido de su amo Hadad-ezer, rey de Soba. 24. Y había juntado gente contra él, y se había hecho capitán de una compañía, cuando David deshizo a los de Soba. Después fueron a Damasco y habitaron allí, y le hicieron rey en Damasco. 25. Y fue adversario de Israel todos los días de Salomón; y fue otro mal con el de Hadad, porque aborreció a Israel, y reinó sobre Siria. 26. También Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, efrateo de Sereda, siervo de Salomón, cuya madre se llamaba Zerúa, la cual era viuda, alzó su mano contra el rey. 27. La causa por la cual este alzó su mano contra el rey fue esta: Salomón, edificando a Milo, cerró el portillo de la ciudad de David su padre. 28. Y este varón Jeroboam era valiente y esforzado; y viendo Salomón al joven que era hombre activo, le encomendó todo el cargo de la casa de José. 29. Aconteció, pues, en aquel tiempo, que saliendo Jeroboam de Jerusalén, le encontró en el camino el profeta Ahías silonita, y este estaba cubierto con una capa nueva; y estaban ellos dos solos en el campo. 30. Y tomando Ahías la capa nueva que tenía sobre sí, la rompió en doce pedazos, 31. y dijo a Jeroboam: Toma para ti los diez pedazos; porque así dijo Jehová Dios de Israel: He aquí que yo rompo el reino de la mano de Salomón, y a ti te daré diez tribus; 32. y él tendrá una tribu por amor a David mi siervo, y por amor a Jerusalén, ciudad que yo he elegido de todas las tribus de Israel; 33. por cuanto me han dejado, y han adorado a Astoret diosa de los sidonios, a Quemos dios de Moab, y a Moloc dios de los hijos de Amón; y no han andado en mis caminos para hacer lo recto delante de mis ojos, y mis estatutos y mis decretos, como hizo David su padre. 34. Pero no quitaré nada del reino de sus manos, sino que lo retendré por rey todos los días de su vida, por amor a David mi siervo, al cual yo elegí, y quien guardó mis mandamientos y mis estatutos. 35. Pero quitaré el reino de la mano de su hijo, y lo daré a ti, las diez tribus. 36. Y a su hijo daré una tribu, para que mi siervo David tenga lámpara todos los días delante de mí en Jerusalén, ciudad que yo me elegí para poner en ella mi nombre. 37. Yo, pues, te tomaré a ti, y tú reinarás en todas las cosas que deseare tu alma, y serás rey sobre Israel. 38. Y si prestares oído a todas las cosas que te mandare, y anduvieres en mis caminos, e hicieres lo recto delante de mis ojos, guardando mis estatutos y mis mandamientos, como hizo David mi siervo, yo estaré contigo y te edificaré casa firme, como la edifiqué a David, y yo te entregaré a Israel. 39. Y yo afligiré a la descendencia de David a causa de esto, mas no para siempre. 40. Por esto Salomón procuró matar a Jeroboam, pero Jeroboam se levantó y huyó a Egipto, a Sisac rey de Egipto, y estuvo en Egipto hasta la muerte de Salomón. Muerte de Salomón (2 Cr. 9.29-31) 41. Los demás hechos de Salomón, y todo lo que hizo, y su sabiduría, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los hechos de Salomón? 42. Los días que Salomón reinó en Jerusalén sobre todo Israel fueron cuarenta años. 43. Now King Solomon loved many foreign women, along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, 2. from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the people of Israel, “You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love. 3. He had 700 wives, who were princesses, and 300 concubines. And his wives turned away his heart. 4. For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father. 5. For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 6. So Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and did not wholly follow the Lord, as David his father had done. 7. Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites, on the mountain east of Jerusalem. 8. And so he did for all his foreign wives, who made offerings and sacrificed to their gods. The Lord Raises Adversaries 9. And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice 10. and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods. But he did not keep what the Lord commanded. 11. Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant. 12. Yet for the sake of David your father I will not do it in your days, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son. 13. However, I will not tear away all the kingdom, but I will give one tribe to your son, for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem that I have chosen.” 14. And the Lord raised up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite. He was of the royal house in Edom. 15. For when David was in Edom, and Joab the commander of the army went up to bury the slain, he struck down every male in Edom 16. (for Joab and all Israel remained there six months, until he had cut off every male in Edom). 17. But Hadad fled to Egypt, together with certain Edomites of his father’s servants, Hadad still being a little child. 18. They set out from Midian and came to Paran and took men with them from Paran and came to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house and assigned him an allowance of food and gave him land. 19. And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him in marriage the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen. 20. And the sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh’s house. And Genubath was in Pharaoh’s house among the sons of Pharaoh. 21. But when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers and that Joab the commander of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, “Let me depart, that I may go to my own country.” 22. But Pharaoh said to him, “What have you lacked with me that you are now seeking to go to your own country?” And he said to him, “Only let me depart.” 23. God also raised up as an adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his master Hadadezer king of Zobah. 24. And he gathered men about him and became leader of a marauding band, after the killing by David. And they went to Damascus and lived there and made him king in Damascus. 25. He was an adversary of Israel all the days of Solomon, doing harm as Hadad did. And he loathed Israel and reigned over Syria. 26. Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow, also lifted up his hand against the king. 27. And this was the reason why he lifted up his hand against the king. Solomon built the Millo, and closed up the breach of the city of David his father. 28. The man Jeroboam was very able, and when Solomon saw that the young man was industrious he gave him charge over all the forced labor of the house of Joseph. 29. And at that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him on the road. Now Ahijah had dressed himself in a new garment, and the two of them were alone in the open country. 30. Then Ahijah laid hold of the new garment that was on him, and tore it into twelve pieces. 31. And he said to Jeroboam, “Take for yourself ten pieces, for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Behold, I am about to tear the kingdom from the hand of Solomon and will give you ten tribes 32. (but he shall have one tribe, for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city that I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel), 33. because they have forsaken me and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the Ammonites, and they have not walked in my ways, doing what is right in my sight and keeping my statutes and my rules, as David his father did. 34. Nevertheless, I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, but I will make him ruler all the days of his life, for the sake of David my servant whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes. 35. But I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand and will give it to you, ten tribes. 36. Yet to his son I will give one tribe, that David my servant may always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem, the city where I have chosen to put my name. 37. And I will take you, and you shall reign over all that your soul desires, and you shall be king over Israel. 38. And if you will listen to all that I command you, and will walk in my ways, and do what is right in my eyes by keeping my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did, I will be with you and will build you a sure house, as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you. 39. And I will afflict the offspring of David because of this, but not forever.’” 40. Solomon sought therefore to kill Jeroboam. But Jeroboam arose and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon. 41. Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the Book of the Acts of Solomon? 42. And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years. 43. And Solomon slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David his father. And Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.

Apostasía y dificultades de Salomón

Pero el rey Salomón amó, además de la hija de Faraón, a muchas mujeres extranjeras; a las de Moab, a las de Amón, a las de Edom, a las de Sidón, y a las heteas;

Y tuvo setecientas mujeres reinas y trescientas concubinas; y sus mujeres desviaron su corazón.
Y cuando Salomón era ya viejo, sus mujeres inclinaron su corazón tras dioses ajenos, y su corazón no era perfecto con Jehová su Dios, como el corazón de su padre David.
Porque Salomón siguió a Astoret, diosa de los sidonios, y a Milcom, ídolo abominable de los amonitas.
E hizo Salomón lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová, y no siguió cumplidamente a Jehová como David su padre.
Entonces edificó Salomón un lugar alto a Quemos, ídolo abominable de Moab, en el monte que está enfrente de Jerusalén, y a Moloc, ídolo abominable de los hijos de Amón.
Así hizo para todas sus mujeres extranjeras, las cuales quemaban incienso y ofrecían sacrificios a sus dioses.
Y se enojó Jehová contra Salomón, por cuanto su corazón se había apartado de Jehová Dios de Israel, que se le había aparecido dos veces,
y le había mandado acerca de esto, que no siguiese a dioses ajenos; mas él no guardó lo que le mandó Jehová.
Y dijo Jehová a Salomón: Por cuanto ha habido esto en ti, y no has guardado mi pacto y mis estatutos que yo te mandé, romperé de ti el reino, y lo entregaré a tu siervo.
Sin embargo, no lo haré en tus días, por amor a David tu padre; lo romperé de la mano de tu hijo.
Pero no romperé todo el reino, sino que daré una tribu a tu hijo, por amor a David mi siervo, y por amor a Jerusalén, la cual yo he elegido.
Y Jehová suscitó un adversario a Salomón: Hadad edomita, de sangre real, el cual estaba en Edom.
Porque cuando David estaba en Edom, y subió Joab el general del ejército a enterrar los muertos, y mató a todos los varones de Edom
(porque seis meses habitó allí Joab, y todo Israel, hasta que hubo acabado con todo el sexo masculino en Edom),
Hadad huyó, y con él algunos varones edomitas de los siervos de su padre, y se fue a Egipto; era entonces Hadad muchacho pequeño.
Y se levantaron de Madián, y vinieron a Parán; y tomando consigo hombres de Parán, vinieron a Egipto, a Faraón rey de Egipto, el cual les dio casa y les señaló alimentos, y aun les dio tierra.
Y halló Hadad gran favor delante de Faraón, el cual le dio por mujer la hermana de su esposa, la hermana de la reina Tahpenes.
Y la hermana de Tahpenes le dio a luz su hijo Genubat, al cual destetó Tahpenes en casa de Faraón; y estaba Genubat en casa de Faraón entre los hijos de Faraón.
Y oyendo Hadad en Egipto que David había dormido con sus padres, y que era muerto Joab general del ejército, Hadad dijo a Faraón: Déjame ir a mi tierra.
Faraón le respondió: ¿Por qué? ¿Qué te falta conmigo, que procuras irte a tu tierra? Él respondió: Nada; con todo, te ruego que me dejes ir.
Dios también levantó por adversario contra Salomón a Rezón hijo de Eliada, el cual había huido de su amo Hadad-ezer, rey de Soba.
Y había juntado gente contra él, y se había hecho capitán de una compañía, cuando David deshizo a los de Soba. Después fueron a Damasco y habitaron allí, y le hicieron rey en Damasco.
Y fue adversario de Israel todos los días de Salomón; y fue otro mal con el de Hadad, porque aborreció a Israel, y reinó sobre Siria.
También Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, efrateo de Sereda, siervo de Salomón, cuya madre se llamaba Zerúa, la cual era viuda, alzó su mano contra el rey.
La causa por la cual este alzó su mano contra el rey fue esta: Salomón, edificando a Milo, cerró el portillo de la ciudad de David su padre.
Y este varón Jeroboam era valiente y esforzado; y viendo Salomón al joven que era hombre activo, le encomendó todo el cargo de la casa de José.
Aconteció, pues, en aquel tiempo, que saliendo Jeroboam de Jerusalén, le encontró en el camino el profeta Ahías silonita, y este estaba cubierto con una capa nueva; y estaban ellos dos solos en el campo.
Y tomando Ahías la capa nueva que tenía sobre sí, la rompió en doce pedazos,
y dijo a Jeroboam: Toma para ti los diez pedazos; porque así dijo Jehová Dios de Israel: He aquí que yo rompo el reino de la mano de Salomón, y a ti te daré diez tribus;
y él tendrá una tribu por amor a David mi siervo, y por amor a Jerusalén, ciudad que yo he elegido de todas las tribus de Israel;
por cuanto me han dejado, y han adorado a Astoret diosa de los sidonios, a Quemos dios de Moab, y a Moloc dios de los hijos de Amón; y no han andado en mis caminos para hacer lo recto delante de mis ojos, y mis estatutos y mis decretos, como hizo David su padre.
Pero no quitaré nada del reino de sus manos, sino que lo retendré por rey todos los días de su vida, por amor a David mi siervo, al cual yo elegí, y quien guardó mis mandamientos y mis estatutos.
Pero quitaré el reino de la mano de su hijo, y lo daré a ti, las diez tribus.
Y a su hijo daré una tribu, para que mi siervo David tenga lámpara todos los días delante de mí en Jerusalén, ciudad que yo me elegí para poner en ella mi nombre.
Yo, pues, te tomaré a ti, y tú reinarás en todas las cosas que deseare tu alma, y serás rey sobre Israel.
Y si prestares oído a todas las cosas que te mandare, y anduvieres en mis caminos, e hicieres lo recto delante de mis ojos, guardando mis estatutos y mis mandamientos, como hizo David mi siervo, yo estaré contigo y te edificaré casa firme, como la edifiqué a David, y yo te entregaré a Israel.
Y yo afligiré a la descendencia de David a causa de esto, mas no para siempre.
Por esto Salomón procuró matar a Jeroboam, pero Jeroboam se levantó y huyó a Egipto, a Sisac rey de Egipto, y estuvo en Egipto hasta la muerte de Salomón.

Los demás hechos de Salomón, y todo lo que hizo, y su sabiduría, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los hechos de Salomón?
Los días que Salomón reinó en Jerusalén sobre todo Israel fueron cuarenta años.
Y durmió Salomón con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de su padre David; y reinó en su lugar Roboam su hijo.
