제 2 장
데살로니가에서 벌인 바울의 사역
1 형제들아 우리가 너희 가운데 들어간 것이 헛되지 않은 줄을 너희가 친히 아나니
2 너희가 아는 바와 같이 우리가 먼저 빌립보에서 고난과 능욕을 당하였으나 우리 하나님을 힘입어 많은 싸움 중에 하나님의 복음을 너희에게 전하였노라
3 우리의 권면은 간사함이나 부정에서 난 것이 아니요 속임수로 하는 것도 아니라
4 오직 하나님께 옳게 여기심을 입어 복음을 위탁 받았으니 우리가 이와 같이 말함은 사람을 기쁘게 하려 함이 아니요 오직 우리 마음을 감찰하시는 하나님을 기쁘시게 하려 함이라
5 너희도 알거니와 우리가 아무 때에도 아첨하는 말이나 탐심의 탈을 쓰지 아니한 것을 하나님이 증언하시느니라
6 또한 우리는 너희에게서든지 다른 이에게서든지 사람에게서는 영광을 구하지 아니하였노라
7 우리는 그리스도의 사도로서 마땅히 권위를 주장할 수 있으나 도리어 너희 가운데서 유순한 자가 되어 유모가 자기 자녀를 기름과 같이 하였으니
8 우리가 이같이 너희를 사모하여 하나님의 복음뿐 아니라 우리의 목숨까지도 너희에게 주기를 기뻐함은 너희가 우리의 사랑하는 자 됨이라
9 형제들아 우리의 수고와 애쓴 것을 너희가 기억하리니 너희 아무에게도 폐를 끼치지 아니하려고 밤낮으로 일하면서 너희에게 하나님의 복음을 전하였노라
10 우리가 너희 믿는 자들을 향하여 어떻게 거룩하고 옳고 흠 없이 행하였는지에 대하여 너희가 증인이요 하나님도 그러하시도다
11 너희도 아는 바와 같이 우리가 너희 각 사람에게 아버지가 자기 자녀에게 하듯 권면하고 위로하고 경계하노니
12 이는 너희를 부르사 자기 나라와 영광에 이르게 하시는 하나님께 합당히 행하게 하려 함이라
13 이러므로 우리가 하나님께 끊임없이 감사함은 너희가 우리에게 들은 바 하나님의 말씀을 받을 때에 사람의 말로 받지 아니하고 하나님의 말씀으로 받음이니 진실로 그러하도다 이 말씀이 또한 너희 믿는 자 가운데에서 역사하느니라
14 형제들아 너희가 그리스도 예수 안에서 유대에 있는 하나님의 교회들을 본받은 자 되었으니 그들이 유대인들에게 고난을 받음과 같이 너희도 너희 동족에게서 동일한 고난을 받았느니라
15 유대인은 주 예수와 선지자들을 죽이고 우리를 쫓아내고 하나님을 기쁘시게 하지 아니하고 모든 사람에게 대적이 되어
16 우리가 이방인에게 말하여 구원받게 함을 그들이 금하여 자기 죄를 항상 채우매 노하심이 끝까지 그들에게 임하였느니라
바울이 데살로니가에 다시 가기를 원하다
17 형제들아 우리가 잠시 너희를 떠난 것은 얼굴이요 마음은 아니니 너희 얼굴 보기를 열정으로 더욱 힘썼노라
18 그러므로 나 바울은 한번 두번 너희에게 가고자 하였으나 사탄이 우리를 막았도다
19 우리의 소망이나 기쁨이나 자랑의 면류관이 무엇이냐 그가 강림하실 때 우리 주 예수 앞에 너희가 아니냐
20 너희는 우리의 영광이요 기쁨이니라
Capítulo 2
Los ministros verdaderos predican con santidad — Los conversos son la gloria y el gozo de los misioneros.
1 Porque, hermanos, vosotros mismos sabéis que nuestra visita a vosotros no fue en vano,
2 pues aun habiendo padecido antes, y sido afrentados en Filipos, como sabéis, tuvimos valentía en nuestro Dios para anunciaros el evangelio de Dios en medio de gran oposición.
3 Porque nuestra exhortación no procedió de error, ni de impureza, ni fue por engaño,
4 sino que según fuimos aprobados por Dios para que se nos confiase el evangelio, así hablamos; no como para agradar a los hombres, sino a Dios, que examina nuestros corazones.
5 Porque nunca fuimos lisonjeros en la palabra, como sabéis, ni encubrimos avaricia; Dios es testigo;
6 ni buscamos gloria de los hombres, ni de vosotros, ni de otros, aunque podíamos seros carga como apóstoles de Cristo.
7 Antes bien, fuimos afectuosos entre vosotros como la que cría con ternura a sus hijos.
8 Tan grande es nuestro afecto por vosotros, que hubiéramos querido entregaros no solo el evangelio de Dios, sino también nuestras propias vidas, porque habéis llegado a sernos muy queridos.
9 Porque, hermanos, os acordáis de nuestro trabajo y fatiga, cómo trabajando de noche y de día, para no ser gravosos a ninguno de vosotros, os predicamos el evangelio de Dios.
10 Vosotros sois testigos, y Dios también, de cuán santa y justa e irreprensiblemente nos condujimos con vosotros los que creísteis,
11 así como también sabéis de qué modo exhortábamos y consolábamos a cada uno de vosotros, como un padre a sus hijos,
12 y os encargábamos que anduvieseis como es digno de Dios, que os llamó a su reino y gloria.
13 Por lo cual también nosotros damos gracias a Dios sin cesar, porque cuando recibisteis la palabra de Dios que oísteis de nosotros, la recibisteis no como palabra de hombres, sino según es en verdad, la palabra de Dios, la cual actúa en vosotros los que creísteis.
14 Porque vosotros, hermanos, llegasteis a ser imitadores de las iglesias de Dios en Cristo Jesús que están en Judea; pues habéis padecido vosotros las mismas cosas que los de vuestra propia nación, como también ellos de los judíos;
15 los cuales mataron al Señor Jesús y a sus propios profetas, y a nosotros nos han perseguido; y no agradan a Dios, y se oponen a todos los hombres;
16 impidiéndonos hablar a los gentiles, a fin de que se salven; así colman ellos siempre la medida de sus pecados, pues vino sobre ellos la ira hasta el extremo.
17 Pero nosotros, hermanos, separados de vosotros por un poco de tiempo, de vista pero no de corazón, tanto más procuramos con mucho deseo ver vuestro rostro.
18 Por lo cual quisimos ir a vosotros, yo, Pablo, a la verdad, una y otra vez; pero Satanás nos lo impidió.
19 Porque, ¿cuál es nuestra esperanza, o gozo, o corona de que me gloríe? ¿No lo sois vosotros, delante de nuestro Señor Jesucristo en su venida?
20 Porque vosotros sois nuestra gloria y gozo.
Chapter 2
True ministers preach in a godly manner—Converts are the glory and joy of missionaries.
1 For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain:
2 But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.
3 For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:
4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
5 For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloak of covetousness; God is witness:
6 Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
7 But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:
8 So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.
9 For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.
10 Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:
11 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,
12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judæa are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:
15 Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:
16 Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.
17 But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.
18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.
19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
20 For ye are our glory and joy.
