제 2 장
산 돌과 하나님의 백성
1 그러므로 모든 악독과 모든 기만과 외식과 시기와 모든 비방하는 말을 버리고
2 갓난 아기들 같이 순전하고 신령한 젖을 사모하라 이는 그로 말미암아 너희로 구원에 이르도록 자라게 하려 함이라
3 너희가 주의 인자하심을 맛보았으면 그리하라
4 사람에게는 버린 바가 되었으나 하나님께는 택하심을 입은 보배로운 산 돌이신 예수께 나아가
5 너희도 산 돌 같이 신령한 집으로 세워지고 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님이 기쁘게 받으실 신령한 제사를 드릴 거룩한 제사장이 될지니라
6 성경에 기록되었으되 보라 내가 택한 보배로운 모퉁잇돌을 시온에 두노니 그를 믿는 자는 부끄러움을 당하지 아니하리라 하였으니
7 그러므로 믿는 너희에게는 보배이나 믿지 아니하는 자에게는 건축자들이 버린 그 돌이 모퉁이의 머릿돌이 되고
8 또한 부딪치는 돌과 걸려 넘어지게 하는 바위가 되었다 하였느니라 그들이 말씀을 순종하지 아니하므로 넘어지나니 이는 그들을 이렇게 정하신 것이라
9 그러나 너희는 택하신 족속이요 왕 같은 제사장들이요 거룩한 나라요 그의 소유가 된 백성이니 이는 너희를 어두운 데서 불러 내어 그의 기이한 빛에 들어가게 하신 이의 아름다운 덕을 선포하게 하려 하심이라
10 너희가 전에는 백성이 아니더니 이제는 하나님의 백성이요 전에는 긍휼을 얻지 못하였더니 이제는 긍휼을 얻은 자니라
하나님의 종과 같이 하라
11 사랑하는 자들아 거류민과 나그네 같은 너희를 권하노니 영혼을 거슬러 싸우는 육체의 정욕을 제어하라
12 너희가 이방인 중에서 행실을 선하게 가져 너희를 악행한다고 비방하는 자들로 하여금 너희 선한 일을 보고 오시는 날에 하나님께 영광을 돌리게 하려 함이라
13 인간의 모든 제도를 주를 위하여 순종하되 혹은 위에 있는 왕이나
14 혹은 그가 악행하는 자를 징벌하고 선행하는 자를 포상하기 위하여 보낸 총독에게 하라
15 곧 선행으로 어리석은 사람들의 무식한 말을 막으시는 것이라
16 너희는 자유가 있으나 그 자유로 악을 가리는 데 쓰지 말고 오직 하나님의 종과 같이 하라
17 뭇 사람을 공경하며 형제를 사랑하며 하나님을 두려워하며 왕을 존대하라
그리스도의 고난
18 사환들아 범사에 두려워함으로 주인들에게 순종하되 선하고 관용하는 자들에게만 아니라 또한 까다로운 자들에게도 그리하라
19 부당하게 고난을 받아도 하나님을 생각함으로 슬픔을 참으면 이는 아름다우나
20 죄가 있어 매를 맞고 참으면 무슨 칭찬이 있으리요 그러나 선을 행함으로 고난을 받고 참으면 이는 하나님 앞에 아름다우니라
21 이를 위하여 너희가 부르심을 받았으니 그리스도도 너희를 위하여 고난을 받으사 너희에게 본을 끼쳐 그 자취를 따라오게 하려 하셨느니라
22 그는 죄를 범하지 아니하시고 그 입에 거짓도 없으시며
23 욕을 당하시되 맞대어 욕하지 아니하시고 고난을 당하시되 위협하지 아니하시고 오직 공의로 심판하시는 이에게 부탁하시며
24 친히 나무에 달려 그 몸으로 우리 죄를 담당하셨으니 이는 우리로 죄에 대하여 죽고 의에 대하여 살게 하려 하심이라 그가 채찍에 맞음으로 너희는 나음을 얻었나니
25 너희가 전에는 양과 같이 길을 잃었더니 이제는 너희 영혼의 목자와 감독 되신 이에게 돌아왔느니라
Capítulo 2
Los conversos son como niños recién nacidos en Cristo — Él es la principal piedra del ángulo — Los santos poseen un real sacerdocio y son un pueblo adquirido por Dios — Los santos están sujetos a las leyes del hombre.
1 Desechando, pues, toda malicia, y todo engaño, e hipocresías, y envidias y toda calumnia,
2 desead, como niños recién nacidos, la leche espiritual pura, para que por ella crezcáis para salvación,
3 si es que habéis probado la benignidad del Señor.
4 Acercándoos a él, piedra viva, rechazada ciertamente por los hombres, pero elegida y preciosa ante Dios,
5 vosotros también, como piedras vivas, sed edificados como una casa espiritual, y un sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales, agradables a Dios por medio de Jesucristo.
6Por lo cual también contiene la Escritura:He aquí, pongo en Sion la principal piedra del ángulo, escogida, preciosa;y el que crea en él, no será avergonzado.
7Él es, pues, honor a vosotros los que creéis; pero para los desobedientes,la piedra que los edificadores desecharon,esta ha venido a ser la cabeza del ángulo,
8 y piedra de tropiezo y roca de escándalo para aquellos que, siendo desobedientes, tropiezan en la palabra, para lo cual fueron también señalados.
9 Mas vosotros sois linaje escogido, real sacerdocio, nación santa, pueblo adquirido por Dios, para que anunciéis las virtudes de aquel que os ha llamado de las tinieblas a su luz admirable.
10 Vosotros, que en el tiempo pasado no erais pueblo, pero que ahora sois pueblo de Dios; que en el tiempo pasado no habíais alcanzado misericordia, pero que ahora habéis alcanzado misericordia.
11 Amados, yo os ruego como a extranjeros y peregrinos, que os abstengáis de los deseos carnales que batallan contra el alma,
12 manteniendo vuestra conducta ejemplar entre los gentiles, para que, en lo que ellos murmuran de vosotros como de malhechores, glorifiquen a Dios en el día de la visitación, al considerar vuestras buenas obras.
13 Por causa del Señor, estad, pues, sujetos a toda autoridad humana, ya sea al rey como superior,
14 ya a los gobernadores como enviados por él para castigo de los malhechores y para loor de los que hacen el bien.
15 Porque esta es la voluntad de Dios: que haciendo el bien, hagáis callar la ignorancia de los hombres insensatos;
16 actuad como libres, y no como los que tienen la libertad como pretexto para hacer lo malo, sino como siervos de Dios.
17 Honrad a todos. Amad a los hermanos. Temed a Dios. Honrad al rey.
18 Siervos, estad sujetos con todo respeto a vuestros amos; no solamente a los buenos y afables, sino también a los rigurosos.
19 Porque esto es elogiable: que alguno a causa de la conciencia ante Dios sufra molestias, padeciendo injustamente.
20 Porque, ¿qué mérito tiene si al pecar vosotros sois abofeteados y lo soportáis con paciencia? Pero si al hacer el bien sois afligidos y lo soportáis con paciencia, esto ciertamente es agradable delante de Dios.
21 Porque para esto fuisteis llamados, pues también Cristo padeció por nosotros, dejándonos ejemplo, para que sigáis sus pasos;
22 quien no cometió pecado, ni fue hallado engaño en su boca;
23 quien cuando le maldecían, no respondía con maldición; cuando padecía, no amenazaba, sino que se encomendaba al que juzga justamente.
24 Él mismo llevó nuestros pecados en su cuerpo sobre el madero, para que nosotros, estando muertos a los pecados, vivamos a la justicia. Por sus heridas habéis sido sanados.
25 Porque vosotros erais como ovejas descarriadas, pero ahora habéis vuelto al Pastor y Obispo de vuestras almas.
Chapter 2
Converts are newborn babes in Christ—He is the chief cornerstone—Saints hold a royal priesthood and are a peculiar people—Saints are in subjection to the laws of man.
1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
