제 3 장

1 사울의 집과 다윗의 집 사이에 전쟁이 오래매 다윗은 점점 강하여 가고 사울의 집은 점점 약하여 가니라

다윗의 아들들(대상 3:1-4)

2 다윗이 헤브론에서 아들들을 낳았으되 맏아들은 암논이라 이스르엘 여인 아히노암의 소생이요

3 둘째는 길르압이라 갈멜 사람 나발의 아내였던 아비가일의 소생이요 셋째는 압살롬이라 그술 왕 달매의 딸 마아가의 아들이요

4 넷째는 아도니야라 학깃의 아들이요 다섯째는 스바댜라 아비달의 아들이요

5 여섯째는 이드르암이라 다윗의 아내 에글라의 소생이니 이들은 다윗이 헤브론에서 낳은 자들이더라

아브넬이 이스보셋을 배반하다

6 사울의 집과 다윗의 집 사이에 전쟁이 있는 동안에 아브넬이 사울의 집에서 점점 권세를 잡으니라

7 사울에게 첩이 있었으니 이름은 리스바요 아야의 딸이더라 이스보셋이 아브넬에게 이르되 네가 어찌하여 내 아버지의 첩과 통간하였느냐 하니

8 아브넬이 이스보셋의 말을 매우 분하게 여겨 이르되 내가 유다의 개 머리냐 내가 오늘 당신의 아버지 사울의 집과 그의 형제와 그의 친구에게 은혜를 베풀어 당신을 다윗의 손에 내주지 아니하였거늘 당신이 오늘 이 여인에게 관한 허물을 내게 돌리는도다

9 여호와께서 다윗에게 맹세하신 대로 내가 이루게 하지 아니하면 하나님이 아브넬에게 벌 위에 벌을 내리심이 마땅하니라

10 그 맹세는 곧 이 나라를 사울의 집에서 다윗에게 옮겨서 그의 왕위를 단에서 브엘세바까지 이스라엘과 유다에 세우리라 하신 것이니라 하매

11 이스보셋이 아브넬을 두려워하여 감히 한 마디도 대답하지 못하니라

12 아브넬이 자기를 대신하여 전령들을 다윗에게 보내어 이르되 이 땅이 누구의 것이니이까 또 이르되 당신은 나와 더불어 언약을 맺사이다 내 손이 당신을 도와 온 이스라엘이 당신에게 돌아가게 하리이다 하니

13 다윗이 이르되 좋다 내가 너와 언약을 맺거니와 내가 네게 한 가지 일을 요구하노니 나를 보러올 때에 우선 사울의 딸 미갈을 데리고 오라 그리하지 아니하면 내 얼굴을 보지 못하리라 하고

14 다윗이 사울의 아들 이스보셋에게 전령들을 보내 이르되 내 처 미갈을 내게로 돌리라 그는 내가 전에 블레셋 사람의 포피 백 개로 나와 정혼한 자니라 하니

15 이스보셋이 사람을 보내 그의 남편 라이스의 아들 발디엘에게서 그를 빼앗아 오매

16 그의 남편이 그와 함께 오되 울며 바후림까지 따라왔더니 아브넬이 그에게 돌아가라 하매 돌아가니라

17 아브넬이 이스라엘 장로들에게 말하여 이르되 너희가 여러 번 다윗을 너희의 임금으로 세우기를 구하였으니

18 이제 그대로 하라 여호와께서 이미 다윗에 대하여 말씀하시기를 내가 내 종 다윗의 손으로 내 백성 이스라엘을 구원하여 블레셋 사람의 손과 모든 대적의 손에서 벗어나게 하리라 하셨음이니라 하고

19 아브넬이 또 베냐민 사람의 귀에 말하고 아브넬이 이스라엘과 베냐민의 온 집이 선하게 여기는 모든 것을 다윗의 귀에 말하려고 헤브론으로 가니라

20 아브넬이 부하 이십 명과 더불어 헤브론에 이르러 다윗에게 나아가니 다윗이 아브넬과 그와 함께 한 사람을 위하여 잔치를 배설하였더라

21 아브넬이 다윗에게 말하되 내가 일어나 가서 온 이스라엘 무리를 내 주 왕의 앞에 모아 더불어 언약을 맺게 하고 마음에 원하시는 대로 모든 것을 다스리시게 하리이다 하니 이에 다윗이 아브넬을 보내매 그가 평안히 가니라

아브넬이 살해되다

22 다윗의 신복들과 요압이 적군을 치고 크게 노략한 물건을 가지고 돌아오니 아브넬은 이미 보냄을 받아 평안히 갔고 다윗과 함께 헤브론에 있지 아니한 때라

23 요압 및 요압과 함께 한 모든 군사가 돌아오매 어떤 사람이 요압에게 말하여 이르되 넬의 아들 아브넬이 왕에게 왔더니 왕이 보내매 그가 평안히 갔나이다 하니

24 요압이 왕에게 나아가 이르되 어찌 하심이니이까 아브넬이 왕에게 나아왔거늘 어찌하여 그를 보내 잘 가게 하셨나이까

25 왕도 아시려니와 넬의 아들 아브넬이 온 것은 왕을 속임이라 그가 왕이 출입하는 것을 알고 왕이 하시는 모든 것을 알려 함이니이다 하고

26 이에 요압이 다윗에게서 나와 전령들을 보내 아브넬을 쫓아가게 하였더니 시라 우물 가에서 그를 데리고 돌아왔으나 다윗은 알지 못하였더라

27 아브넬이 헤브론으로 돌아오매 요압이 더불어 조용히 말하려는 듯이 그를 데리고 성문 안으로 들어가 거기서 배를 찔러 죽이니 이는 자기의 동생 아사헬의 피로 말미암음이더라

28 그 후에 다윗이 듣고 이르되 넬의 아들 아브넬의 피에 대하여 나와 내 나라는 여호와 앞에 영원히 무죄하니

29 그 죄가 요압의 머리와 그의 아버지의 온 집으로 돌아갈지어다 또 요압의 집에서 백탁병자나 나병 환자나 지팡이를 의지하는 자나 칼에 죽는 자나 양식이 떨어진 자가 끊어지지 아니할지로다 하니라

30 요압과 그의 동생 아비새가 아브넬을 죽인 것은 그가 기브온 전쟁에서 자기 동생 아사헬을 죽인 까닭이었더라

아브넬을 장사하다

31 다윗이 요압과 및 자기와 함께 있는 모든 백성에게 이르되 너희는 옷을 찢고 굵은 베를 띠고 아브넬 앞에서 애도하라 하니라 다윗 왕이 상여를 따라가

32 아브넬을 헤브론에 장사하고 아브넬의 무덤에서 왕이 소리를 높여 울고 백성도 다 우니라

33 왕이 아브넬을 위하여 애가를 지어 이르되 아브넬의 죽음이 어찌하여 미련한 자의 죽음 같은고

34 네 손이 결박되지 아니하였고 네 발이 차꼬에 채이지 아니하였거늘 불의한 자식의 앞에 엎드러짐 같이 네가 엎드러졌도다 하매 온 백성이 다시 그를 슬퍼하여 우니라

35 석양에 뭇 백성이 나아와 다윗에게 음식을 권하니 다윗이 맹세하여 이르되 만일 내가 해 지기 전에 떡이나 다른 모든 것을 맛보면 하나님이 내게 벌 위에 벌을 내리심이 마땅하니라 하매

36 온 백성이 보고 기뻐하며 왕이 무슨 일을 하든지 무리가 다 기뻐하므로

37 이 날에야 온 백성과 온 이스라엘이 넬의 아들 아브넬을 죽인 것이 왕이 한 것이 아닌 줄을 아니라

38 왕이 그의 신복에게 이르되 오늘 이스라엘의 지도자요 큰 인물이 죽은 것을 알지 못하느냐

39 내가 기름 부음을 받은 왕이 되었으나 오늘 약하여서 스루야의 아들인 이 사람들을 제어하기가 너무 어려우니 여호와는 악행한 자에게 그 악한 대로 갚으실지로다 하니라

Y nacieron hijos a David en Hebrón; su primogénito fue Amnón, de Ahinoam jezreelita; 3. su segundo Quileab, de Abigail la mujer de Nabal el de Carmel; el tercero, Absalón hijo de Maaca, hija de Talmai rey de Gesur; 4. el cuarto, Adonías hijo de Haguit; el quinto, Sefatías hijo de Abital; 5. el sexto, Itream, de Egla mujer de David. Estos le nacieron a David en Hebrón. Abner pacta con David en Hebrón 6. Como había guerra entre la casa de Saúl y la de David, aconteció que Abner se esforzaba por la casa de Saúl. 7. Y había tenido Saúl una concubina que se llamaba Rizpa, hija de Aja; y dijo Is-boset a Abner: ¿Por qué te has llegado a la concubina de mi padre? 8. Y se enojó Abner en gran manera por las palabras de Is-boset, y dijo: ¿Soy yo cabeza de perro que pertenezca a Judá? Yo he hecho hoy misericordia con la casa de Saúl tu padre, con sus hermanos y con sus amigos, y no te he entregado en mano de David; ¿y tú me haces hoy cargo del pecado de esta mujer? 9. Así haga Dios a Abner y aun le añada, si como ha jurado Jehová a David, no haga yo así con él, 10. trasladando el reino de la casa de Saúl, y confirmando el trono de David sobre Israel y sobre Judá, desde Dan hasta Beerseba. 11. Y él no pudo responder palabra a Abner, porque le temía. 12. Entonces envió Abner mensajeros a David de su parte, diciendo: ¿De quién es la tierra? Y que le dijesen: Haz pacto conmigo, y he aquí que mi mano estará contigo para volver a ti todo Israel. 13. Y David dijo: Bien; haré pacto contigo, mas una cosa te pido: No me vengas a ver sin que primero traigas a Mical la hija de Saúl, cuando vengas a verme. 14. Después de esto envió David mensajeros a Is-boset hijo de Saúl, diciendo: Restitúyeme mi mujer Mical, la cual desposé conmigo por cien prepucios de filisteos. 15. Entonces Is-boset envió y se la quitó a su marido Paltiel hijo de Lais. 16. Y su marido fue con ella, siguiéndola y llorando hasta Bahurim. Y le dijo Abner: Anda, vuélvete. Entonces él se volvió. 17. Y habló Abner con los ancianos de Israel, diciendo: Hace ya tiempo procurabais que David fuese rey sobre vosotros. 18. Ahora, pues, hacedlo; porque Jehová ha hablado a David, diciendo: Por la mano de mi siervo David libraré a mi pueblo Israel de mano de los filisteos, y de mano de todos sus enemigos. 19. Habló también Abner a los de Benjamín; y fue también Abner a Hebrón a decir a David todo lo que parecía bien a los de Israel y a toda la casa de Benjamín. 20. Vino, pues, Abner a David en Hebrón, y con él veinte hombres; y David hizo banquete a Abner y a los que con él habían venido. 21. Y dijo Abner a David: Yo me levantaré e iré, y juntaré a mi señor el rey a todo Israel, para que hagan contigo pacto, y tú reines como lo desea tu corazón. David despidió luego a Abner, y él se fue en paz. Joab mata a Abner 22. Y he aquí que los siervos de David y Joab venían del campo, y traían consigo gran botín. Mas Abner no estaba con David en Hebrón, pues ya lo había despedido, y él se había ido en paz. 23. Y luego que llegó Joab y todo el ejército que con él estaba, fue dado aviso a Joab, diciendo: Abner hijo de Ner ha venido al rey, y él le ha despedido, y se fue en paz. 24. Entonces Joab vino al rey, y le dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? He aquí Abner vino a ti; ¿por qué, pues, le dejaste que se fuese? 25. Tú conoces a Abner hijo de Ner. No ha venido sino para engañarte, y para enterarse de tu salida y de tu entrada, y para saber todo lo que tú haces. 26. Y saliendo Joab de la presencia de David, envió mensajeros tras Abner, los cuales le hicieron volver desde el pozo de Sira, sin que David lo supiera. 27. Y cuando Abner volvió a Hebrón, Joab lo llevó aparte en medio de la puerta para hablar con él en secreto; y allí, en venganza de la muerte de Asael su hermano, le hirió por la quinta costilla, y murió. 28. Cuando David supo después esto, dijo: Inocente soy yo y mi reino, delante de Jehová, para siempre, de la sangre de Abner hijo de Ner. 29. Caiga sobre la cabeza de Joab, y sobre toda la casa de su padre; que nunca falte de la casa de Joab quien padezca flujo, ni leproso, ni quien ande con báculo, ni quien muera a espada, ni quien tenga falta de pan. 30. Joab, pues, y Abisai su hermano, mataron a Abner, porque él había dado muerte a Asael hermano de ellos en la batalla de Gabaón. 31. Entonces dijo David a Joab, y a todo el pueblo que con él estaba: Rasgad vuestros vestidos, y ceñíos de cilicio, y haced duelo delante de Abner. Y el rey David iba detrás del féretro. 32. Y sepultaron a Abner en Hebrón; y alzando el rey su voz, lloró junto al sepulcro de Abner; y lloró también todo el pueblo. 33. Y endechando el rey al mismo Abner, decía: ¿Había de morir Abner como muere un villano? 34. Tus manos no estaban atadas, ni tus pies ligados con grillos; Caíste como los que caen delante de malos hombres. Y todo el pueblo volvió a llorar sobre él. 35. Entonces todo el pueblo vino para persuadir a David que comiera, antes que acabara el día. Mas David juró diciendo: Así me haga Dios y aun me añada, si antes que se ponga el sol gustare yo pan, o cualquiera otra cosa. 36. Todo el pueblo supo esto, y le agradó; pues todo lo que el rey hacía agradaba a todo el pueblo. 37. Y todo el pueblo y todo Israel entendió aquel día, que no había procedido del rey el matar a Abner hijo de Ner. 38. También dijo el rey a sus siervos: ¿No sabéis que un príncipe y grande ha caído hoy en Israel? 39. Y yo soy débil hoy, aunque ungido rey; y estos hombres, los hijos de Sarvia, son muy duros para mí; Jehová dé el pago al que mal hace, conforme a su maldad. 2 #Samuel 3 Abner Joins David 1. There was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. And David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul became weaker and weaker. 2. And sons were born to David at Hebron: his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam of Jezreel; 3. and his second, Chileab, of Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur; 4. and the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital; 5. and the sixth, Ithream, of Eglah, David’s wife. These were born to David in Hebron. 6. While there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner was making himself strong in the house of Saul. 7. Now Saul had a concubine whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. And Ish-bosheth said to Abner, “Why have you gone in to my father’s concubine?” 8. Then Abner was very angry over the words of Ish-bosheth and said, “Am I a dog’s head of Judah? To this day I keep showing steadfast love to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not given you into the hand of David. And yet you charge me today with a fault concerning a woman. 9. God do so to Abner and more also, if I do not accomplish for David what the Lord has sworn to him, 10. to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan to Beersheba.” 11. And Ish-bosheth could not answer Abner another word, because he feared him. 12. And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, “To whom does the land belong? Make your covenant with me, and behold, my hand shall be with you to bring over all Israel to you.” 13. And he said, “Good; I will make a covenant with you. But one thing I require of you; that is, you shall not see my face unless you first bring Michal, Saul’s daughter, when you come to see my face.” 14. Then David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth, Saul’s son, saying, “Give me my wife Michal, for whom I paid the bridal price of a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.” 15. And Ish-bosheth sent and took her from her husband Paltiel the son of Laish. 16. But her husband went with her, weeping after her all the way to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, “Go, return.” And he returned. 17. And Abner conferred with the elders of Israel, saying, “For some time past you have been seeking David as king over you. 18. Now then bring it about, for the Lord has promised David, saying, ‘By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines, and from the hand of all their enemies.’” 19. Abner also spoke to Benjamin. And then Abner went to tell David at Hebron all that Israel and the whole house of Benjamin thought good to do. 20. When Abner came with twenty men to David at Hebron, David made a feast for Abner and the men who were with him. 21. And Abner said to David, “I will arise and go and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may reign over all that your heart desires.” So David sent Abner away, and he went in peace. 22. Just then the servants of David arrived with Joab from a raid, bringing much spoil with them. But Abner was not with David at Hebron, for he had sent him away, and he had gone in peace. 23. When Joab and all the army that was with him came, it was told Joab, “Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he has let him go, and he has gone in peace.” 24. Then Joab went to the king and said, “What have you done? Behold, Abner came to you. Why is it that you have sent him away, so that he is gone? 25. You know that Abner the son of Ner came to deceive you and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you are doing.” Joab Murders Abner 26. When Joab came out from David’s presence, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the cistern of Sirah. But David did not know about it. 27. And when Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him privately, and there he struck him in the stomach, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother. 28. Afterward, when David heard of it, he said, “I and my kingdom are forever guiltless before the Lord for the blood of Abner the son of Ner. 29. May it fall upon the head of Joab and upon all his father’s house, and may the house of Joab never be without one who has a discharge or who is leprous or who holds a spindle or who falls by the sword or who lacks bread!” 30. So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had put their brother Asahel to death in the battle at Gibeon. David Mourns Abner 31. Then David said to Joab and to all the people who were with him, “Tear your clothes and put on sackcloth and mourn before Abner.” And King David followed the bier. 32. They buried Abner at Hebron. And the king lifted up his voice and wept at the grave of Abner, and all the people wept. 33. And the king lamented for Abner, saying, “Should Abner die as a fool dies? 34. Your hands were not bound; your feet were not fettered; as one falls before the wicked you have fallen.” And all the people wept again over him. 35. Then all the people came to persuade David to eat bread while it was yet day. But David swore, saying, “God do so to me and more also, if I taste bread or anything else till the sun goes down!” 36. And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them, as everything that the king did pleased all the people. 37. So all the people and all Israel understood that day that it had not been the king’s will to put to death Abner the son of Ner. 38. And the king said to his servants, “Do you not know that a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel? 39. And I was gentle today, though anointed king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah, are more severe than I. The Lord repay the evildoer according to his wickedness!”

Hubo larga guerra entre la casa de Saúl y la casa de David; pero David se iba fortaleciendo, y la casa de Saúl se iba debilitando.
Hijos de David nacidos en Hebrón
(1 Cr. 3.1-4)
Y nacieron hijos a David en Hebrón; su primogénito fue Amnón, de Ahinoam jezreelita;
su segundo Quileab, de Abigail la mujer de Nabal el de Carmel; el tercero, Absalón hijo de Maaca, hija de Talmai rey de Gesur;
el cuarto, Adonías hijo de Haguit; el quinto, Sefatías hijo de Abital;
el sexto, Itream, de Egla mujer de David. Estos le nacieron a David en Hebrón.

Abner pacta con David en Hebrón
Como había guerra entre la casa de Saúl y la de David, aconteció que Abner se esforzaba por la casa de Saúl.
Y había tenido Saúl una concubina que se llamaba Rizpa, hija de Aja; y dijo Is-boset a Abner: ¿Por qué te has llegado a la concubina de mi padre?
Y se enojó Abner en gran manera por las palabras de Is-boset, y dijo: ¿Soy yo cabeza de perro que pertenezca a Judá? Yo he hecho hoy misericordia con la casa de Saúl tu padre, con sus hermanos y con sus amigos, y no te he entregado en mano de David; ¿y tú me haces hoy cargo del pecado de esta mujer?
Así haga Dios a Abner y aun le añada, si como ha jurado Jehová a David, no haga yo así con él,
trasladando el reino de la casa de Saúl, y confirmando el trono de David sobre Israel y sobre Judá, desde Dan hasta Beerseba.
Y él no pudo responder palabra a Abner, porque le temía.
Entonces envió Abner mensajeros a David de su parte, diciendo: ¿De quién es la tierra? Y que le dijesen: Haz pacto conmigo, y he aquí que mi mano estará contigo para volver a ti todo Israel.
Y David dijo: Bien; haré pacto contigo, mas una cosa te pido: No me vengas a ver sin que primero traigas a Mical la hija de Saúl, cuando vengas a verme.
Después de esto envió David mensajeros a Is-boset hijo de Saúl, diciendo: Restitúyeme mi mujer Mical, la cual desposé conmigo por cien prepucios de filisteos.
Entonces Is-boset envió y se la quitó a su marido Paltiel hijo de Lais.
Y su marido fue con ella, siguiéndola y llorando hasta Bahurim. Y le dijo Abner: Anda, vuélvete. Entonces él se volvió.
Y habló Abner con los ancianos de Israel, diciendo: Hace ya tiempo procurabais que David fuese rey sobre vosotros.
Ahora, pues, hacedlo; porque Jehová ha hablado a David, diciendo: Por la mano de mi siervo David libraré a mi pueblo Israel de mano de los filisteos, y de mano de todos sus enemigos.
Habló también Abner a los de Benjamín; y fue también Abner a Hebrón a decir a David todo lo que parecía bien a los de Israel y a toda la casa de Benjamín.
Vino, pues, Abner a David en Hebrón, y con él veinte hombres; y David hizo banquete a Abner y a los que con él habían venido.
Y dijo Abner a David: Yo me levantaré e iré, y juntaré a mi señor el rey a todo Israel, para que hagan contigo pacto, y tú reines como lo desea tu corazón. David despidió luego a Abner, y él se fue en paz.

Joab mata a Abner
Y he aquí que los siervos de David y Joab venían del campo, y traían consigo gran botín. Mas Abner no estaba con David en Hebrón, pues ya lo había despedido, y él se había ido en paz.
Y luego que llegó Joab y todo el ejército que con él estaba, fue dado aviso a Joab, diciendo: Abner hijo de Ner ha venido al rey, y él le ha despedido, y se fue en paz.
Entonces Joab vino al rey, y le dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? He aquí Abner vino a ti; ¿por qué, pues, le dejaste que se fuese?
Tú conoces a Abner hijo de Ner. No ha venido sino para engañarte, y para enterarse de tu salida y de tu entrada, y para saber todo lo que tú haces.
Y saliendo Joab de la presencia de David, envió mensajeros tras Abner, los cuales le hicieron volver desde el pozo de Sira, sin que David lo supiera.
Y cuando Abner volvió a Hebrón, Joab lo llevó aparte en medio de la puerta para hablar con él en secreto; y allí, en venganza de la muerte de Asael su hermano, le hirió por la quinta costilla, y murió.
Cuando David supo después esto, dijo: Inocente soy yo y mi reino, delante de Jehová, para siempre, de la sangre de Abner hijo de Ner.
Caiga sobre la cabeza de Joab, y sobre toda la casa de su padre; que nunca falte de la casa de Joab quien padezca flujo, ni leproso, ni quien ande con báculo, ni quien muera a espada, ni quien tenga falta de pan.
Joab, pues, y Abisai su hermano, mataron a Abner, porque él había dado muerte a Asael hermano de ellos en la batalla de Gabaón.
Entonces dijo David a Joab, y a todo el pueblo que con él estaba: Rasgad vuestros vestidos, y ceñíos de cilicio, y haced duelo delante de Abner. Y el rey David iba detrás del féretro.
Y sepultaron a Abner en Hebrón; y alzando el rey su voz, lloró junto al sepulcro de Abner; y lloró también todo el pueblo.
Y endechando el rey al mismo Abner, decía:
¿Había de morir Abner como muere un villano?
Tus manos no estaban atadas, ni tus pies ligados con grillos;
Caíste como los que caen delante de malos hombres.
Y todo el pueblo volvió a llorar sobre él.
Entonces todo el pueblo vino para persuadir a David que comiera, antes que acabara el día. Mas David juró diciendo: Así me haga Dios y aun me añada, si antes que se ponga el sol gustare yo pan, o cualquiera otra cosa.
Todo el pueblo supo esto, y le agradó; pues todo lo que el rey hacía agradaba a todo el pueblo.
Y todo el pueblo y todo Israel entendió aquel día, que no había procedido del rey el matar a Abner hijo de Ner.
También dijo el rey a sus siervos: ¿No sabéis que un príncipe y grande ha caído hoy en Israel?
Y yo soy débil hoy, aunque ungido rey; y estos hombres, los hijos de Sarvia, son muy duros para mí; Jehová dé el pago al que mal hace, conforme a su maldad.

Abner Joins David

There was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. And David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul became weaker and weaker.
And sons were born to David at Hebron: his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam of Jezreel;
and his second, Chileab, of Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;
and the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;
and the sixth, Ithream, of Eglah, David’s wife. These were born to David in Hebron.
While there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner was making himself strong in the house of Saul.
Now Saul had a concubine whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. And Ish-bosheth said to Abner, “Why have you gone in to my father’s concubine?”
Then Abner was very angry over the words of Ish-bosheth and said, “Am I a dog’s head of Judah? To this day I keep showing steadfast love to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not given you into the hand of David. And yet you charge me today with a fault concerning a woman.
God do so to Abner and more also, if I do not accomplish for David what the Lord has sworn to him,
to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan to Beersheba.”
And Ish-bosheth could not answer Abner another word, because he feared him.
And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, “To whom does the land belong? Make your covenant with me, and behold, my hand shall be with you to bring over all Israel to you.”
And he said, “Good; I will make a covenant with you. But one thing I require of you; that is, you shall not see my face unless you first bring Michal, Saul’s daughter, when you come to see my face.”
