사울 왕이 죽다(삼상 31:1-13)

1   블레셋 사람들과 이스라엘이 싸우더니 이스라엘 사람들이 블레셋 사람들 앞에서 도망하다가 길보아 산에서 죽임을 당하여 엎드러지니라

2   블레셋 사람들이 사울과 그 아들들을 추격하여 블레셋 사람들이 사울의 아들 요나단과 아비나답과 말기수아를 죽이고

3   사울을 맹렬히 치며 활 쏘는 자가 사울에게 따라 미치매 사울이 그 쏘는 자로 말미암아 심히 다급하여

4   사울이 자기의 무기를 가진 자에게 이르되 너는 칼을 빼어 그것으로 나를 찌르라 할례 받지 못한 자들이 와서 나를 욕되게 할까 두려워하노라 그러나 그의 무기를 가진 자가 심히 두려워하여 행하기를 원하지 아니하매 사울이 자기 칼을 뽑아서 그 위에 엎드러지니

5   무기 가진 자가 사울이 죽는 것을 보고 자기도 칼에 엎드러져 죽으니라

6   이와 같이 사울과 그의 세 아들과 그 온 집안이 함께 죽으니라

7   골짜기에 있는 모든 이스라엘 사람이 그들의 도망한 것과 사울과 그의 아들들이 다 죽은 것을 보고 그 성읍들을 버리고 도망하매 블레셋 사람들이 와서 거기에 거주하니라

8   이튿날에 블레셋 사람들이 와서 죽임을 당한 자의 옷을 벗기다가 사울과 그의 아들들이 길보아 산에 엎드러졌음을 보고

9   곧 사울의 옷을 벗기고 그의 머리와 갑옷을 가져다가 사람을 블레셋 땅 사방에 보내 모든 이방 신전과 그 백성에게 소식을 전하고

10   사울의 갑옷을 그들의 신전에 두고 그의 머리를 다곤의 신전에 단지라

11   길르앗야베스 모든 사람이 블레셋 사람들이 사울에게 행한 모든 일을 듣고

12   용사들이 다 일어나서 사울의 시체와 그의 아들들의 시체를 거두어 야베스로 가져다가 그 곳 상수리나무 아래에 그 해골을 장사하고 칠 일간 금식하였더라

13   사울이 죽은 것은 여호와께 범죄하였기 때문이라 그가 여호와의 말씀을 지키지 아니하고 또 신접한 자에게 가르치기를 청하고

14   여호와께 묻지 아니하였으므로 여호와께서 그를 죽이시고 그 나라를 이새의 아들 다윗에게 넘겨 주셨더라

Muerte de Saúl y de sus hijos

(1 S. 31.1-13)

1Los filisteos pelearon contra Israel; y huyeron delante de ellos los israelitas, y cayeron heridos en el monte de Gilboa. 2Y los filisteos siguieron a Saúl y a sus hijos, y mataron los filisteos a Jonatán, a Abinadab y a Malquisúa, hijos de Saúl. 3Y arreciando la batalla contra Saúl, le alcanzaron los flecheros, y fue herido por los flecheros. 4Entonces dijo Saúl a su escudero: Saca tu espada y traspásame con ella, no sea que vengan estos incircuncisos y hagan escarnio de mí; pero su escudero no quiso, porque tenía mucho miedo. Entonces Saúl tomó la espada, y se echó sobre ella. 5Cuando su escudero vio a Saúl muerto, él también se echó sobre su espada y se mató. 6Así murieron Saúl y sus tres hijos; y toda su casa murió juntamente con él. 7Y viendo todos los de Israel que habitaban en el valle, que habían huido, y que Saúl y sus hijos eran muertos, dejaron sus ciudades y huyeron, y vinieron los filisteos y habitaron en ellas.

8Sucedió al día siguiente, que al venir los filisteos a despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus hijos tendidos en el monte de Gilboa. 9Y luego que le despojaron, tomaron su cabeza y sus armas, y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos para dar las nuevas a sus ídolos y al pueblo. 10Y pusieron sus armas en el templo de sus dioses, y colgaron la cabeza en el templo de Dagón. 11Y oyendo todos los de Jabes de Galaad lo que los filisteos habían hecho de Saúl, 12se levantaron todos los hombres valientes, y tomaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos, y los trajeron a Jabes; y enterraron sus huesos debajo de una encina en Jabes, y ayunaron siete días.

13Así murió Saúl por su rebelión con que prevaricó contra Jehová, contra la palabra de Jehová, la cual no guardó, y porque consultó a una adivina, 14y no consultó a Jehová; por esta causa lo mató, y traspasó el reino a David hijo de Isaí.

The Death of Saul and His Sons

1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa. 2And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons, and the Philistines struck down Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul. 3The battle pressed hard against Saul, and the archers found him, and he was wounded by the archers. 4Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and mistreat me.” But his armor-bearer would not, for he feared greatly. Therefore Saul took his own sword and fell upon it. 5And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword and died. 6Thus Saul died; he and his three sons and all his house died together. 7And when all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled, and the Philistines came and lived in them.

8The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. 9And they stripped him and took his head and his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to carry the good news to their idols and to the people. 10And they put his armor in the temple of their gods and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon. 11But when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul, 12all the valiant men arose and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh. And they buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh and fasted seven days.

13So Saul died for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also consulted a medium, seeking guidance. 14He did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.
