제 21 장

다윗의 인구 조사(삼하 24:1-25)

1   사탄이 일어나 이스라엘을 대적하고 다윗을 충동하여 이스라엘을 계수하게 하니라

2   다윗이 요압과 백성의 지도자들에게 이르되 너희는 가서 브엘세바에서부터 단까지 이스라엘을 계수하고 돌아와 내게 보고하여 그 수효를 알게 하라 하니

3   요압이 아뢰되 여호와께서 그 백성을 지금보다 백 배나 더하시기를 원하나이다 내 주 왕이여 이 백성이 다 내 주의 종이 아니니이까 내 주께서 어찌하여 이 일을 명령하시나이까 어찌하여 이스라엘이 범죄하게 하시나이까 하나

4   왕의 명령이 요압을 재촉한지라 드디어 요압이 떠나 이스라엘 땅에 두루 다닌 후에 예루살렘으로 돌아와

5   요압이 백성의 수효를 다윗에게 보고하니 이스라엘 중에 칼을 뺄 만한 자가 백십만 명이요 유다 중에 칼을 뺄 만한 자가 사십칠만 명이라

6   요압이 왕의 명령을 마땅치 않게 여겨 레위와 베냐민 사람은 계수하지 아니하였더라

7   하나님이 이 일을 악하게 여기사 이스라엘을 치시매

8   다윗이 하나님께 아뢰되 내가 이 일을 행함으로 큰 죄를 범하였나이다 이제 간구하옵나니 종의 죄를 용서하여 주옵소서 내가 심히 미련하게 행하였나이다 하니라

9   여호와께서 다윗의 선견자 갓에게 말씀하여 이르시되

10   가서 다윗에게 말하여 이르기를 여호와의 말씀이 내가 네게 세 가지를 내어 놓으리니 그 중에서 하나를 네가 택하라 내가 그것을 네게 행하리라 하셨다 하라 하신지라

11   갓이 다윗에게 나아가 그에게 말하되 여호와의 말씀이 너는 마음대로 택하라

12   혹 삼년 기근이든지 혹 네가 석 달을 적군에게 패하여 적군의 칼에 쫓길 일이든지 혹 여호와의 칼 곧 전염병이 사흘 동안 이 땅에 유행하며 여호와의 천사가 이스라엘 온 지경을 멸할 일이든지라고 하셨나니 내가 무슨 말로 나를 보내신 이에게 대답할지를 결정하소서 하니

13   다윗이 갓에게 이르되 내가 곤경에 빠졌도다 여호와께서는 긍휼이 심히 크시니 내가 그의 손에 빠지고 사람의 손에 빠지지 아니하기를 원하나이다 하는지라

14   이에 여호와께서 이스라엘 백성에게 전염병을 내리시매 이스라엘 백성 중에서 죽은 자가 칠만 명이었더라

15   하나님이 예루살렘을 멸하러 천사를 보내셨더니 천사가 멸하려 할 때에 여호와께서 보시고 이 재앙 내림을 뉘우치사 멸하는 천사에게 이르시되 족하다 이제는 네 손을 거두라 하시니 그 때에 여호와의 천사가 여부스 사람 오르난의 타작 마당 곁에 선지라

16   다윗이 눈을 들어 보매 여호와의 천사가 천지 사이에 섰고 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 예루살렘 하늘을 향하여 편지라 다윗이 장로들과 더불어 굵은 베를 입고 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려

17   하나님께 아뢰되 명령하여 백성을 계수하게 한 자가 내가 아니니이까 범죄하고 악을 행한 자는 곧 나이니이다 이 양 떼는 무엇을 행하였나이까 청하건대 나의 하나님 여호와여 주의 손으로 나와 내 아버지의 집을 치시고 주의 백성에게 재앙을 내리지 마옵소서 하니라

18   여호와의 천사가 갓에게 명령하여 다윗에게 이르시기를 다윗은 올라가서 여부스 사람 오르난의 타작 마당에서 여호와를 위하여 제단을 쌓으라 하신지라

19   이에 갓이 여호와의 이름으로 이른 말씀대로 다윗이 올라가니라

20   그 때에 오르난이 밀을 타작하다가 돌이켜 천사를 보고 오르난이 네 명의 아들과 함께 숨었더니

21   다윗이 오르난에게 나아가매 오르난이 내다보다가 다윗을 보고 타작 마당에서 나와 얼굴을 땅에 대고 다윗에게 절하매

22   다윗이 오르난에게 이르되 이 타작하는 곳을 내게 넘기라 너는 상당한 값으로 내게 넘기라 내가 여호와를 위하여 여기 한 제단을 쌓으리니 그리하면 전염병이 백성 중에서 그치리라 하니

23   오르난이 다윗에게 말하되 왕은 취하소서 내 주 왕께서 좋게 여기시는 대로 행하소서 보소서 내가 이것들을 드리나이다 소들은 번제물로, 곡식 떠는 기계는 화목으로, 밀은 소제물로 삼으시기 위하여 다 드리나이다 하는지라

24   다윗 왕이 오르난에게 이르되 그렇지 아니하다 내가 반드시 상당한 값으로 사리라 내가 여호와께 드리려고 네 물건을 빼앗지 아니하겠고 값 없이는 번제를 드리지도 아니하리라 하니라

25   그리하여 다윗은 그 터 값으로 금 육백 세겔을 달아 오르난에게 주고

26   다윗이 거기서 여호와를 위하여 제단을 쌓고 번제와 화목제를 드려 여호와께 아뢰었더니 여호와께서 하늘에서부터 번제단 위에 불을 내려 응답하시고

27   여호와께서 천사를 명령하시매 그가 칼을 칼집에 꽂았더라

28   이 때에 다윗이 여호와께서 여부스 사람 오르난의 타작 마당에서 응답하심을 보고 거기서 제사를 드렸으니

29   옛적에 모세가 광야에서 지은 여호와의 성막과 번제단이 그 때에 기브온 산당에 있었으나

30   다윗이 여호와의 천사의 칼을 두려워하여 감히 그 앞에 가서 하나님께 묻지 못하더라

David censa al pueblo

(2 S. 24.1-25)

1Pero Satanás se levantó contra Israel, e incitó a David a que hiciese censo de Israel. 2Y dijo David a Joab y a los príncipes del pueblo: Id, haced censo de Israel desde Beerseba hasta Dan, e informadme sobre el número de ellos para que yo lo sepa. 3Y dijo Joab: Añada Jehová a su pueblo cien veces más, rey señor mío; ¿no son todos estos siervos de mi señor? ¿Para qué procura mi señor esto, que será para pecado a Israel? 4Mas la orden del rey pudo más que Joab. Salió, por tanto, Joab, y recorrió todo Israel, y volvió a Jerusalén y dio la cuenta del número del pueblo a David. 5Y había en todo Israel un millón cien mil que sacaban espada, y de Judá cuatrocientos setenta mil hombres que sacaban espada. 6Entre estos no fueron contados los levitas, ni los hijos de Benjamín, porque la orden del rey era abominable a Joab.

7Asimismo esto desagradó a Dios, e hirió a Israel. 8Entonces dijo David a Dios: He pecado gravemente al hacer esto; te ruego que quites la iniquidad de tu siervo, porque he hecho muy locamente. 9Y habló Jehová a Gad, vidente de David, diciendo: 10Ve y habla a David, y dile: Así ha dicho Jehová: Tres cosas te propongo; escoge de ellas una que yo haga contigo. 11Y viniendo Gad a David, le dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: 12Escoge para ti: o tres años de hambre, o por tres meses ser derrotado delante de tus enemigos con la espada de tus adversarios, o por tres días la espada de Jehová, esto es, la peste en la tierra, y que el ángel de Jehová haga destrucción en todos los términos de Israel. Mira, pues, qué responderé al que me ha enviado. 13Entonces David dijo a Gad: Estoy en grande angustia. Ruego que yo caiga en la mano de Jehová, porque sus misericordias son muchas en extremo; pero que no caiga en manos de hombres.

14Así Jehová envió una peste en Israel, y murieron de Israel setenta mil hombres. 15Y envió Jehová el ángel a Jerusalén para destruirla; pero cuando él estaba destruyendo, miró Jehová y se arrepintió de aquel mal, y dijo al ángel que destruía: Basta ya; detén tu mano. El ángel de Jehová estaba junto a la era de Ornán jebuseo. 16Y alzando David sus ojos, vio al ángel de Jehová, que estaba entre el cielo y la tierra, con una espada desnuda en su mano, extendida contra Jerusalén. Entonces David y los ancianos se postraron sobre sus rostros, cubiertos de cilicio. 17Y dijo David a Dios: ¿No soy yo el que hizo contar el pueblo? Yo mismo soy el que pequé, y ciertamente he hecho mal; pero estas ovejas, ¿qué han hecho? Jehová Dios mío, sea ahora tu mano contra mí, y contra la casa de mi padre, y no venga la peste sobre tu pueblo.

18Y el ángel de Jehová ordenó a Gad que dijese a David que subiese y construyese un altar a Jehová en la era de Ornán jebuseo. 19Entonces David subió, conforme a la palabra que Gad le había dicho en nombre de Jehová. 20Y volviéndose Ornán, vio al ángel, por lo que se escondieron cuatro hijos suyos que con él estaban. Y Ornán trillaba el trigo. 21Y viniendo David a Ornán, miró Ornán, y vio a David; y saliendo de la era, se postró en tierra ante David. 22Entonces dijo David a Ornán: Dame este lugar de la era, para que edifique un altar a Jehová; dámelo por su cabal precio, para que cese la mortandad en el pueblo. 23Y Ornán respondió a David: Tómala para ti, y haga mi señor el rey lo que bien le parezca; y aun los bueyes daré para el holocausto, y los trillos para leña, y trigo para la ofrenda; yo lo doy todo. 24Entonces el rey David dijo a Ornán: No, sino que efectivamente la compraré por su justo precio; porque no tomaré para Jehová lo que es tuyo, ni sacrificaré holocausto que nada me cueste. 25Y dio David a Ornán por aquel lugar el peso de seiscientos siclos de oro. 26Y edificó allí David un altar a Jehová, en el que ofreció holocaustos y ofrendas de paz, e invocó a Jehová, quien le respondió por fuego desde los cielos en el altar del holocausto. 27Entonces Jehová habló al ángel, y este volvió su espada a la vaina.

El lugar para el templo

28Viendo David que Jehová le había oído en la era de Ornán jebuseo, ofreció sacrificios allí. 29Y el tabernáculo de Jehová que Moisés había hecho en el desierto, y el altar del holocausto, estaban entonces en el lugar alto de Gabaón; 30pero David no pudo ir allá a consultar a Dios, porque estaba atemorizado a causa de la espada del ángel de Jehová.

David’s Census Brings Pestilence

1 Then Satan stood against Israel and incited David to number Israel. 2So David said to Joab and the commanders of the army, “Go, number Israel, from Beersheba to Dan, and bring me a report, that I may know their number.” 3But Joab said, “May the Lord add to his people a hundred times as many as they are! Are they not, my lord the king, all of them my lord’s servants? Why then should my lord require this? Why should it be a cause of guilt for Israel?” 4But the king’s word prevailed against Joab. So Joab departed and went throughout all Israel and came back to Jerusalem. 5And Joab gave the sum of the numbering of the people to David. In all Israel there were 1,100,000 men who drew the sword, and in Judah 470,000 who drew the sword. 6But he did not include Levi and Benjamin in the numbering, for the king’s command was abhorrent to Joab.

7But God was displeased with this thing, and he struck Israel. 8And David said to God, “I have sinned greatly in that I have done this thing. But now, please take away the iniquity of your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.” 9And the Lord spoke to Gad, David’s seer, saying, 10“Go and say to David, ‘Thus says the Lord, Three things I offer you; choose one of them, that I may do it to you.’” 11So Gad came to David and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Choose what you will: 12either three years of famine, or three months of devastation by your foes while the sword of your enemies overtakes you, or else three days of the sword of the Lord, pestilence on the land, with the angel of the Lord destroying throughout all the territory of Israel.’ Now decide what answer I shall return to him who sent me.” 13Then David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Let me fall into the hand of the Lord, for his mercy is very great, but do not let me fall into the hand of man.”

14So the Lord sent a pestilence on Israel, and 70,000 men of Israel fell. 15And God sent the angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, but as he was about to destroy it, the Lord saw, and he relented from the calamity. And he said to the angel who was working destruction, “It is enough; now stay your hand.” And the angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. 16And David lifted his eyes and saw the angel of the Lord standing between earth and heaven, and in his hand a drawn sword stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces. 17And David said to God, “Was it not I who gave command to number the people? It is I who have sinned and done great evil. But these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O Lord my God, be against me and against my father’s house. But do not let the plague be on your people.”

David Builds an Altar

18Now the angel of the Lord had commanded Gad to say to David that David should go up and raise an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. 19So David went up at Gad’s word, which he had spoken in the name of the Lord. 20Now Ornan was threshing wheat. He turned and saw the angel, and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. 21As David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David and went out from the threshing floor and paid homage to David with his face to the ground. 22And David said to Ornan, “Give me the site of the threshing floor that I may build on it an altar to the Lord—give it to me at its full price—that the plague may be averted from the people.” 23Then Ornan said to David, “Take it, and let my lord the king do what seems good to him. See, I give the oxen for burnt offerings and the threshing sledges for the wood and the wheat for a grain offering; I give it all.” 24But King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will buy them for the full price. I will not take for the Lord what is yours, nor offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” 25So David paid Ornan 600 shekels of gold by weight for the site. 26And David built there an altar to the Lord and presented burnt offerings and peace offerings and called on the Lord, and the Lord answered him with fire from heaven upon the altar of burnt offering. 27Then the Lord commanded the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.

28At that time, when David saw that the Lord had answered him at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he sacrificed there. 29For the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering were at that time in the high place at Gibeon, 30but David could not go before it to inquire of God, for he was afraid of the sword of the angel of the Lord.
