제 11 장

유다 여왕 아달랴(대하 22:10-23:15)

1 아하시야의 어머니 아달랴가 그의 아들이 죽은 것을 보고 일어나 왕의 자손을 모두 멸절하였으나

2 요람 왕의 딸 아하시야의 누이 여호세바가 아하시야의 아들 요아스를 왕자들이 죽임을 당하는 중에서 빼내어 그와 그의 유모를 침실에 숨겨 아달랴를 피하여 죽임을 당하지 아니하게 한지라

3 요아스가 그와 함께 여호와의 성전에 육 년을 숨어 있는 동안에 아달랴가 나라를 다스렸더라

4 일곱째 해에 여호야다가 사람을 보내 가리 사람의 백부장들과 호위병의 백부장들을 불러 데리고 여호와의 성전으로 들어가서 그들과 언약을 맺고 그들에게 여호와의 성전에서 맹세하게 한 후에 왕자를 그들에게 보이고

5 명령하여 이르되 너희가 행할 것이 이러하니 안식일에 들어온 너희 중 삼분의 일은 왕궁을 주의하여 지키고

6 삼분의 일은 수르 문에 있고 삼분의 일은 호위대 뒤에 있는 문에 있어서 이와 같이 왕궁을 주의하여 지키고

7 안식일에 나가는 너희 중 두 대는 여호와의 성전을 주의하여 지켜 왕을 호위하되

8 너희는 각각 손에 무기를 잡고 왕을 호위하며 너희 대열을 침범하는 모든 자는 죽이고 왕이 출입할 때에 시위할지니라 하니

9 백부장들이 이에 제사장 여호야다의 모든 명령대로 행하여 각기 관할하는 바 안식일에 들어오는 자와 안식일에 나가는 자를 거느리고 제사장 여호야다에게 나아오매

10 제사장이 여호와의 성전에 있는 다윗 왕의 창과 방패를 백부장들에게 주니

11 호위병이 각각 손에 무기를 잡고 왕을 호위하되 성전 오른쪽에서부터 왼쪽까지 제단과 성전 곁에 서고

12 여호야다가 왕자를 인도하여 내어 왕관을 씌우며 율법책을 주고 기름을 부어 왕으로 삼으매 무리가 박수하며 왕의 만세를 부르니라

13 아달랴가 호위병과 백성의 소리를 듣고 여호와의 성전에 들어가 백성에게 이르러

14 보매 왕이 규례대로 단 위에 섰고 장관들과 나팔수가 왕의 곁에 모셔 섰으며 온 백성이 즐거워하여 나팔을 부는지라 아달랴가 옷을 찢으며 외치되 반역이로다 반역이로다 하매

15 제사장 여호야다가 군대를 거느린 백부장들에게 명령하여 이르되 그를 대열 밖으로 몰아내라 그를 따르는 자는 모두 칼로 죽이라 하니 제사장의 이 말은 여호와의 성전에서는 그를 죽이지 말라 함이라

16 이에 그의 길을 열어 주매 그가 왕궁의 말이 다니는 길로 가다가 거기서 죽임을 당하였더라

여호야다의 개혁(대하 23:16-21)

17 여호야다가 왕과 백성에게 여호와와 언약을 맺어 여호와의 백성이 되게 하고 왕과 백성 사이에도 언약을 세우게 하매

18 온 백성이 바알의 신당으로 가서 그 신당을 허물고 그 제단들과 우상들을 철저히 깨뜨리고 그 제단 앞에서 바알의 제사장 맛단을 죽이니라 제사장이 관리들을 세워 여호와의 성전을 수직하게 하고

19 또 백부장들과 가리 사람과 호위병과 온 백성을 거느리고 왕을 인도하여 여호와의 성전에서 내려와 호위병의 문 길을 통하여 왕궁에 이르매 그가 왕의 왕좌에 앉으니

20 온 백성이 즐거워하고 온 성이 평온하더라 아달랴를 무리가 왕궁에서 칼로 죽였더라

21 요아스가 왕이 될 때에 나이가 칠 세였더라

Pero Josaba hija del rey Joram, hermana de Ocozías, tomó a Joás hijo de Ocozías y lo sacó furtivamente de entre los hijos del rey a quienes estaban matando, y lo ocultó de Atalía, a él y a su ama, en la cámara de dormir, y en esta forma no lo mataron. 3. Y estuvo con ella escondido en la casa de Jehová seis años; y Atalía fue reina sobre el país. 4. Mas al séptimo año envió Joiada y tomó jefes de centenas, capitanes, y gente de la guardia, y los metió consigo en la casa de Jehová, e hizo con ellos alianza, juramentándolos en la casa de Jehová; y les mostró el hijo del rey. 5. Y les mandó diciendo: Esto es lo que habéis de hacer: la tercera parte de vosotros tendrá la guardia de la casa del rey el día de reposo. 6. Otra tercera parte estará a la puerta de Shur, y la otra tercera parte a la puerta del postigo de la guardia; así guardaréis la casa, para que no sea allanada. 7. Mas las dos partes de vosotros que salen el día de reposo tendréis la guardia de la casa de Jehová junto al rey. 8. Y estaréis alrededor del rey por todos lados, teniendo cada uno sus armas en las manos; y cualquiera que entrare en las filas, sea muerto. Y estaréis con el rey cuando salga, y cuando entre. 9. Los jefes de centenas, pues, hicieron todo como el sacerdote Joiada les mandó; y tomando cada uno a los suyos, esto es, los que entraban el día de reposo y los que salían el día de reposo, vinieron al sacerdote Joiada. 10. Y el sacerdote dio a los jefes de centenas las lanzas y los escudos que habían sido del rey David, que estaban en la casa de Jehová. 11. Y los de la guardia se pusieron en fila, teniendo cada uno sus armas en sus manos, desde el lado derecho de la casa hasta el lado izquierdo, junto al altar y el templo, en derredor del rey. 12. Sacando luego Joiada al hijo del rey, le puso la corona y el testimonio, y le hicieron rey ungiéndole; y batiendo las manos dijeron: ¡Viva el rey! 13. Oyendo Atalía el estruendo del pueblo que corría, entró al pueblo en el templo de Jehová. 14. Y cuando miró, he aquí que el rey estaba junto a la columna, conforme a la costumbre, y los príncipes y los trompeteros junto al rey; y todo el pueblo del país se regocijaba, y tocaban las trompetas. Entonces Atalía, rasgando sus vestidos, clamó a voz en cuello: ¡Traición, traición! 15. Mas el sacerdote Joiada mandó a los jefes de centenas que gobernaban el ejército, y les dijo: Sacadla fuera del recinto del templo, y al que la siguiere, matadlo a espada. (Porque el sacerdote dijo que no la matasen en el templo de Jehová.) 16. Le abrieron, pues, paso; y en el camino por donde entran los de a caballo a la casa del rey, allí la mataron. 17. Entonces Joiada hizo pacto entre Jehová y el rey y el pueblo, que serían pueblo de Jehová; y asimismo entre el rey y el pueblo. 18. Y todo el pueblo de la tierra entró en el templo de Baal, y lo derribaron; asimismo despedazaron enteramente sus altares y sus imágenes, y mataron a Matán sacerdote de Baal delante de los altares. Y el sacerdote puso guarnición sobre la casa de Jehová. 19. Después tomó a los jefes de centenas, los capitanes, la guardia y todo el pueblo de la tierra, y llevaron al rey desde la casa de Jehová, y vinieron por el camino de la puerta de la guardia a la casa del rey; y se sentó el rey en el trono de los reyes. 20. Y todo el pueblo de la tierra se regocijó, y la ciudad estuvo en reposo, habiendo sido Atalía muerta a espada junto a la casa del rey. 21. And he made a covenant with them and put them under oath in the house of the Lord, and he showed them the king’s son. 5. And he commanded them, “This is the thing that you shall do: one third of you, those who come off duty on the Sabbath and guard the king’s house 6. (another third being at the gate Sur and a third at the gate behind the guards) shall guard the palace. 7. And the two divisions of you, which come on duty in force on the Sabbath and guard the house of the Lord on behalf of the king, 8. shall surround the king, each with his weapons in his hand. And whoever approaches the ranks is to be put to death. Be with the king when he goes out and when he comes in.” 9. The captains did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded, and they each brought his men who were to go off duty on the Sabbath, with those who were to come on duty on the Sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest. 10. And the priest gave to the captains the spears and shields that had been King David’s, which were in the house of the Lord. 11. And the guards stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the south side of the house to the north side of the house, around the altar and the house on behalf of the king. 12. Then he brought out the king’s son and put the crown on him and gave him the testimony. And they proclaimed him king and anointed him, and they clapped their hands and said, “Long live the king!” 13. When Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she went into the house of the Lord to the people. 14. And when she looked, there was the king standing by the pillar, according to the custom, and the captains and the trumpeters beside the king, and all the people of the land rejoicing and blowing trumpets. And Athaliah tore her clothes and cried, “Treason! Treason!” 15. Then Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains who were set over the army, “Bring her out between the ranks, and put to death with the sword anyone who follows her.” For the priest said, “Let her not be put to death in the house of the Lord.” 16. So they laid hands on her; and she went through the horses’ entrance to the king’s house, and there she was put to death. 17. And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and people, that they should be the Lord’s people, and also between the king and the people. 18. Then all the people of the land went to the house of Baal and tore it down; his altars and his images they broke in pieces, and they killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest posted watchmen over the house of the Lord. 19. And he took the captains, the Carites, the guards, and all the people of the land, and they brought the king down from the house of the Lord, marching through the gate of the guards to the king’s house. And he took his seat on the throne of the kings. 20. So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet after Athaliah had been put to death with the sword at the king’s house. Jehoash Reigns in Judah 21. Jehoash was seven years old when he began to reign.

Athaliah Reigns in Judah

Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family.
But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were being put to death, and she put him and his nurse in a bedroom. Thus they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not put to death.
And he remained with her six years, hidden in the house of the Lord, while Athaliah reigned over the land.

Joash Anointed King in Judah
But in the seventh year Jehoiada sent and brought the captains of the Carites and of the guards, and had them come to him in the house of the Lord. And he made a covenant with them and put them under oath in the house of the Lord, and he showed them the king’s son.
