제 4 장

과부의 기름 그릇

1 선지자의 제자들의 아내 중의 한 여인이 엘리사에게 부르짖어 이르되 당신의 종 나의 남편이 이미 죽었는데 당신의 종이 여호와를 경외한 줄은 당신이 아시는 바니이다 이제 빚 준 사람이 와서 나의 두 아이를 데려가 그의 종을 삼고자 하나이다 하니

2 엘리사가 그에게 이르되 내가 너를 위하여 어떻게 하랴 네 집에 무엇이 있는지 내게 말하라 그가 이르되 계집종의 집에 기름 한 그릇 외에는 아무것도 없나이다 하니

3 이르되 너는 밖에 나가서 모든 이웃에게 그릇을 빌리라 빈 그릇을 빌리되 조금 빌리지 말고

4 너는 네 두 아들과 함께 들어가서 문을 닫고 그 모든 그릇에 기름을 부어서 차는 대로 옮겨 놓으라 하니라

5 여인이 물러가서 그의 두 아들과 함께 문을 닫은 후에 그들은 그릇을 그에게로 가져오고 그는 부었더니

6 그릇에 다 찬지라 여인이 아들에게 이르되 또 그릇을 내게로 가져오라 하니 아들이 이르되 다른 그릇이 없나이다 하니 기름이 곧 그쳤더라

7 그 여인이 하나님의 사람에게 나아가서 말하니 그가 이르되 너는 가서 기름을 팔아 빚을 갚고 남은 것으로 너와 네 두 아들이 생활하라 하였더라

엘리사와 수넴 여인

8 하루는 엘리사가 수넴에 이르렀더니 거기에 한 귀한 여인이 그를 간권하여 음식을 먹게 하였으므로 엘리사가 그 곳을 지날 때마다 음식을 먹으러 그리로 들어갔더라

9 여인이 그의 남편에게 이르되 항상 우리를 지나가는 이 사람은 하나님의 거룩한 사람인 줄을 내가 아노니

10 청하건대 우리가 그를 위하여 작은 방을 담 위에 만들고 침상과 책상과 의자와 촛대를 두사이다 그가 우리에게 이르면 거기에 머물리이다 하였더라

11 하루는 엘리사가 거기에 이르러 그 방에 들어가 누웠더니

12 자기 사환 게하시에게 이르되 이 수넴 여인을 불러오라 하니 곧 여인을 부르매 여인이 그 앞에 선지라

13 엘리사가 자기 사환에게 이르되 너는 그에게 이르라 네가 이같이 우리를 위하여 세심한 배려를 하는도다 내가 너를 위하여 무엇을 하랴 왕에게나 사령관에게 무슨 구할 것이 있느냐 하니 여인이 이르되 나는 내 백성 중에 거주하나이다 하니라

14 엘리사가 이르되 그러면 그를 위하여 무엇을 하여야 할까 하니 게하시가 대답하되 참으로 이 여인은 아들이 없고 그 남편은 늙었나이다 하니

15 이르되 다시 부르라 하여 부르매 여인이 문에 서니라

16 엘리사가 이르되 한 해가 지나 이 때쯤에 네가 아들을 안으리라 하니 여인이 이르되 아니로소이다 내 주 하나님의 사람이여 당신의 계집종을 속이지 마옵소서 하니라

17 여인이 과연 잉태하여 한 해가 지나 이 때쯤에 엘리사가 여인에게 말한 대로 아들을 낳았더라

18 그 아이가 자라매 하루는 추수꾼들에게 나가서 그의 아버지에게 이르렀더니

19 그의 아버지에게 이르되 내 머리야 내 머리야 하는지라 그의 아버지가 사환에게 말하여 그의 어머니에게로 데려가라 하매

20 곧 어머니에게로 데려갔더니 낮까지 어머니의 무릎에 앉아 있다가 죽은지라

21 그의 어머니가 올라가서 아들을 하나님의 사람의 침상 위에 두고 문을 닫고 나와

22 그 남편을 불러 이르되 청하건대 사환 한 명과 나귀 한 마리를 내게로 보내소서 내가 하나님의 사람에게 달려갔다가 돌아오리이다 하니

23 그 남편이 이르되 초하루도 아니요 안식일도 아니거늘 그대가 오늘 어찌하여 그에게 나아가고자 하느냐 하는지라 여인이 이르되 평안을 비나이다 하니라

24 이에 나귀에 안장을 지우고 자기 사환에게 이르되 몰고 가라 내가 말하지 아니하거든 나를 위하여 달려가기를 멈추지 말라 하고

25 드디어 갈멜 산으로 가서 하나님의 사람에게로 나아가니라

하나님의 사람이 멀리서 그를 보고 자기 사환 게하시에게 이르되 저기 수넴 여인이 있도다

26 너는 달려가서 그를 맞아 이르기를 너는 평안하냐 네 남편이 평안하냐 아이가 평안하냐 하라 하였더니 여인이 대답하되 평안하다 하고

27 산에 이르러 하나님의 사람에게 나아가서 그 발을 안은지라 게하시가 가까이 와서 그를 물리치고자 하매 하나님의 사람이 이르되 가만 두라 그의 영혼이 괴로워하지마는 여호와께서 내게 숨기시고 이르지 아니하셨도다 하니라

28 여인이 이르되 내가 내 주께 아들을 구하더이까 나를 속이지 말라고 내가 말하지 아니하더이까 하니

29 엘리사가 게하시에게 이르되 네 허리를 묶고 내 지팡이를 손에 들고 가라 사람을 만나거든 인사하지 말며 사람이 네게 인사할지라도 대답하지 말고 내 지팡이를 그 아이 얼굴에 놓으라 하는지라

30 아이의 어머니가 이르되 여호와께서 살아 계심과 당신의 영혼이 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 당신을 떠나지 아니하리이다 엘리사가 이에 일어나 여인을 따라가니라

31 게하시가 그들보다 앞서 가서 지팡이를 그 아이의 얼굴에 놓았으나 소리도 없고 듣지도 아니하는지라 돌아와서 엘리사를 맞아 그에게 말하여 아이가 깨지 아니하였나이다 하니라

32 엘리사가 집에 들어가 보니 아이가 죽었는데 자기의 침상에 눕혔는지라

33 들어가서는 문을 닫으니 두 사람 뿐이라 엘리사가 여호와께 기도하고

34 아이 위에 올라 엎드려 자기 입을 그의 입에, 자기 눈을 그의 눈에, 자기 손을 그의 손에 대고 그의 몸에 엎드리니 아이의 살이 차차 따뜻하더라

35 엘리사가 내려서 집 안에서 한 번 이리 저리 다니고 다시 아이 위에 올라 엎드리니 아이가 일곱 번 재채기 하고 눈을 뜨는지라

36 엘리사가 게하시를 불러 저 수넴 여인을 불러오라 하니 곧 부르매 여인이 들어가니 엘리사가 이르되 네 아들을 데리고 가라 하니라

37 여인이 들어가서 엘리사의 발 앞에서 땅에 엎드려 절하고 아들을 안고 나가니라

두 가지 기적

38 엘리사가 다시 길갈에 이르니 그 땅에 흉년이 들었는데 선지자의 제자들이 엘리사의 앞에 앉은지라 엘리사가 자기 사환에게 이르되 큰 솥을 걸고 선지자의 제자들을 위하여 국을 끓이라 하매

39 한 사람이 채소를 캐러 들에 나가 들포도덩굴을 만나 그것에서 들호박을 따서 옷자락에 채워가지고 돌아와 썰어 국 끓이는 솥에 넣되 그들은 무엇인지 알지 못한지라

40 이에 퍼다가 무리에게 주어 먹게 하였더니 무리가 국을 먹다가 그들이 외쳐 이르되 하나님의 사람이여 솥에 죽음의 독이 있나이다 하고 능히 먹지 못하는지라

41 엘리사가 이르되 그러면 가루를 가져오라 하여 솥에 던지고 이르되 퍼다가 무리에게 주어 먹게 하라 하매 이에 솥 가운데 독이 없어지니라

42 한 사람이 바알 살리사에서부터 와서 처음 만든 떡 곧 보리떡 이십 개와 또 자루에 담은 채소를 하나님의 사람에게 드린지라 그가 이르되 무리에게 주어 먹게 하라

43 그 사환이 이르되 내가 어찌 이것을 백 명에게 주겠나이까 하나 엘리사는 또 이르되 무리에게 주어 먹게 하라 여호와의 말씀이 그들이 먹고 남으리라 하셨느니라

44 그가 그들 앞에 주었더니 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 먹고 남았더라

Una mujer, de las mujeres de los hijos de los profetas, clamó a Eliseo, diciendo: Tu siervo mi marido ha muerto; y tú sabes que tu siervo era temeroso de Jehová; y ha venido el acreedor para tomarse dos hijos míos por siervos. 2. Y Eliseo le dijo: ¿Qué te haré yo? Declárame qué tienes en casa. Y ella dijo: Tu sierva ninguna cosa tiene en casa, sino una vasija de aceite. 3. Él le dijo: Ve y pide para ti vasijas prestadas de todos tus vecinos, vasijas vacías, no pocas. 4. Entra luego, y enciérrate tú y tus hijos; y echa en todas las vasijas, y cuando una esté llena, ponla aparte. 5. Y se fue la mujer, y cerró la puerta encerrándose ella y sus hijos; y ellos le traían las vasijas, y ella echaba del aceite. 6. Cuando las vasijas estuvieron llenas, dijo a un hijo suyo: Tráeme aún otras vasijas. Y él dijo: No hay más vasijas. Entonces cesó el aceite. 7. Vino ella luego, y lo contó al varón de Dios, el cual dijo: Ve y vende el aceite, y paga a tus acreedores; y tú y tus hijos vivid de lo que quede. Eliseo y la sunamita 8. Aconteció también que un día pasaba Eliseo por Sunem; y había allí una mujer importante, que le invitaba insistentemente a que comiese; y cuando él pasaba por allí, venía a la casa de ella a comer. 9. Y ella dijo a su marido: He aquí ahora, yo entiendo que este que siempre pasa por nuestra casa, es varón santo de Dios. 10. Yo te ruego que hagamos un pequeño aposento de paredes, y pongamos allí cama, mesa, silla y candelero, para que cuando él viniere a nosotros, se quede en él. 11. Y aconteció que un día vino él por allí, y se quedó en aquel aposento, y allí durmió. 12. Entonces dijo a Giezi su criado: Llama a esta sunamita. Y cuando la llamó, vino ella delante de él. 13. Dijo él entonces a Giezi: Dile: He aquí tú has estado solícita por nosotros con todo este esmero; ¿qué quieres que haga por ti? ¿Necesitas que hable por ti al rey, o al general del ejército? Y ella respondió: Yo habito en medio de mi pueblo. 14. Y él dijo: ¿Qué, pues, haremos por ella? Y Giezi respondió: He aquí que ella no tiene hijo, y su marido es viejo. 15. Dijo entonces: Llámala. Y él la llamó, y ella se paró a la puerta. 16. Y él le dijo: El año que viene, por este tiempo, abrazarás un hijo. Y ella dijo: No, señor mío, varón de Dios, no hagas burla de tu sierva. 17. Mas la mujer concibió, y dio a luz un hijo el año siguiente, en el tiempo que Eliseo le había dicho. 18. Y el niño creció. Pero aconteció un día, que vino a su padre, que estaba con los segadores; 19. y dijo a su padre: ¡Ay, mi cabeza, mi cabeza! Y el padre dijo a un criado: Llévalo a su madre. 20. Y habiéndole él tomado y traído a su madre, estuvo sentado en sus rodillas hasta el mediodía, y murió. 21. Ella entonces subió, y lo puso sobre la cama del varón de Dios, y cerrando la puerta, se salió. 22. Llamando luego a su marido, le dijo: Te ruego que envíes conmigo a alguno de los criados y una de las asnas, para que yo vaya corriendo al varón de Dios, y regrese. 23. Él dijo: ¿Para qué vas a verle hoy? No es nueva luna, ni día de reposo. Y ella respondió: Paz. 24. Después hizo enalbardar el asna, y dijo al criado: Guía y anda; y no me hagas detener en el camino, sino cuando yo te lo dijere. 25. Partió, pues, y vino al varón de Dios, al monte Carmelo. Y cuando el varón de Dios la vio de lejos, dijo a su criado Giezi: He aquí la sunamita. 26. Te ruego que vayas ahora corriendo a recibirla, y le digas: ¿Te va bien a ti? ¿Le va bien a tu marido, y a tu hijo? Y ella dijo: Bien. 27. Luego que llegó a donde estaba el varón de Dios en el monte, se asió de sus pies. Y se acercó Giezi para quitarla; pero el varón de Dios le dijo: Déjala, porque su alma está en amargura, y Jehová me ha encubierto el motivo, y no me lo ha revelado. 28. Y ella dijo: ¿Pedí yo hijo a mi señor? ¿No dije yo que no te burlases de mí? 29. Entonces dijo él a Giezi: Ciñe tus lomos, y toma mi báculo en tu mano, y ve; si alguno te encontrare, no lo saludes, y si alguno te saludare, no le respondas; y pondrás mi báculo sobre el rostro del niño. 30. Y dijo la madre del niño: Vive Jehová, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. 31. Él entonces se levantó y la siguió. Y Giezi había ido delante de ellos, y había puesto el báculo sobre el rostro del niño; pero no tenía voz ni sentido, y así se había vuelto para encontrar a Eliseo, y se lo declaró, diciendo: El niño no despierta. 32. Y venido Eliseo a la casa, he aquí que el niño estaba muerto tendido sobre su cama. 33. Entrando él entonces, cerró la puerta tras ambos, y oró a Jehová. 34. Después subió y se tendió sobre el niño, poniendo su boca sobre la boca de él, y sus ojos sobre sus ojos, y sus manos sobre las manos suyas; así se tendió sobre él, y el cuerpo del niño entró en calor. 35. Volviéndose luego, se paseó por la casa a una y otra parte, y después subió, y se tendió sobre él nuevamente, y el niño estornudó siete veces, y abrió sus ojos. 36. Entonces llamó él a Giezi, y le dijo: Llama a esta sunamita. Y él la llamó. Y entrando ella, él le dijo: Toma tu hijo. 37. Y así que ella entró, se echó a sus pies, y se inclinó a tierra; y después tomó a su hijo, y salió. Milagros en beneficio de los profetas 38. Eliseo volvió a Gilgal cuando había una grande hambre en la tierra. Y los hijos de los profetas estaban con él, por lo que dijo a su criado: Pon una olla grande, y haz potaje para los hijos de los profetas. 39. Y salió uno al campo a recoger hierbas, y halló una como parra montés, y de ella llenó su falda de calabazas silvestres; y volvió, y las cortó en la olla del potaje, pues no sabía lo que era. 40. Después sirvió para que comieran los hombres; pero sucedió que comiendo ellos de aquel guisado, gritaron diciendo: ¡Varón de Dios, hay muerte en esa olla! Y no lo pudieron comer. 41. Él entonces dijo: Traed harina. Y la esparció en la olla, y dijo: Da de comer a la gente. Y no hubo más mal en la olla. 42. Vino entonces un hombre de Baal-salisa, el cual trajo al varón de Dios panes de primicias, veinte panes de cebada, y trigo nuevo en su espiga. Y él dijo: Da a la gente para que coma. 43. And Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me; what have you in the house?” And she said, “Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.” 3. Then he said, “Go outside, borrow vessels from all your neighbors, empty vessels and not too few. 4. Then go in and shut the door behind yourself and your sons and pour into all these vessels. And when one is full, set it aside.” 5. So she went from him and shut the door behind herself and her sons. And as she poured they brought the vessels to her. 6. When the vessels were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another.” Then the oil stopped flowing. 7. She came and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on the rest.” Elisha and the Shunammite Woman 8. One day Elisha went on to Shunem, where a wealthy woman lived, who urged him to eat some food. So whenever he passed that way, he would turn in there to eat food. 9. And she said to her husband, “Behold now, I know that this is a holy man of God who is continually passing our way. 10. Let us make a small room on the roof with walls and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp, so that whenever he comes to us, he can go in there.” 11. One day he came there, and he turned into the chamber and rested there. 12. And he said to Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite.” When he had called her, she stood before him. 13. And he said to him, “Say now to her, ‘See, you have taken all this trouble for us; what is to be done for you? Would you have a word spoken on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?’” She answered, “I dwell among my own people.” 14. And he said, “What then is to be done for her?” Gehazi answered, “Well, she has no son, and her husband is old.” 15. He said, “Call her.” And when he had called her, she stood in the doorway. 16. And he said, “At this season, about this time next year, you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord, O man of God; do not lie to your servant.” 17. But the woman conceived, and she bore a son about that time the following spring, as Elisha had said to her. Elisha Raises the Shunammite’s Son 18. When the child had grown, he went out one day to his father among the reapers. 19. And he said to his father, “Oh, my head, my head!” The father said to his servant, “Carry him to his mother.” 20. And when he had lifted him and brought him to his mother, the child sat on her lap till noon, and then he died. 21. And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God and shut the door behind him and went out. 22. Then she called to her husband and said, “Send me one of the servants and one of the donkeys, that I may quickly go to the man of God and come back again.” 23. And he said, “Why will you go to him today? It is neither new moon nor Sabbath.” She said, “All is well.” 24. Then she saddled the donkey, and she said to her servant, “Urge the animal on; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you.” 25. So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When the man of God saw her coming, he said to Gehazi his servant, “Look, there is the Shunammite. 26. Run at once to meet her and say to her, ‘Is all well with you? Is all well with your husband? Is all well with the child?’” And she answered, “All is well.” 27. And when she came to the mountain to the man of God, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came to push her away. But the man of God said, “Leave her alone, for she is in bitter distress, and the Lord has hidden it from me and has not told me.” 28. Then she said, “Did I ask my lord for a son? Did I not say, ‘Do not deceive me?’” 29. He said to Gehazi, “Tie up your garment and take my staff in your hand and go. If you meet anyone, do not greet him, and if anyone greets you, do not reply. And lay my staff on the face of the child.” 30. Then the mother of the child said, “As the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So he arose and followed her. 31. Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the face of the child, but there was no sound or sign of life. Therefore he returned to meet him and told him, “The child has not awakened.” 32. When Elisha came into the house, he saw the child lying dead on his bed. 33. So he went in and shut the door behind the two of them and prayed to the Lord. 34. Then he went up and lay on the child, putting his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. And as he stretched himself upon him, the flesh of the child became warm. 35. Then he got up again and walked once back and forth in the house, and went up and stretched himself upon him. The child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. 36. Then he summoned Gehazi and said, “Call this Shunammite.” So he called her. And when she came to him, he said, “Pick up your son.” 37. She came and fell at his feet, bowing to the ground. Then she picked up her son and went out. Elisha Purifies the Deadly Stew 38. And Elisha came again to Gilgal when there was a famine in the land. And as the sons of the prophets were sitting before him, he said to his servant, “Set on the large pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.” 39. One of them went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine and gathered from it his lap full of wild gourds, and came and cut them up into the pot of stew, not knowing what they were. 40. And they poured out some for the men to eat. But while they were eating of the stew, they cried out, “O man of God, there is death in the pot!” And they could not eat it. 41. He said, “Then bring flour.” And he threw it into the pot and said, “Pour some out for the men, that they may eat.” And there was no harm in the pot. 42. A man came from Baal-shalishah, bringing the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And Elisha said, “Give to the men, that they may eat.” 43. But his servant said, “How can I set this before a hundred men?” So he repeated, “Give them to the men, that they may eat, for thus says the Lord, ‘They shall eat and have some left.’” 44. So he set it before them. And they ate and had some left, according to the word of the Lord.

El aceite de la viuda

Una mujer, de las mujeres de los hijos de los profetas, clamó a Eliseo, diciendo: Tu siervo mi marido ha muerto; y tú sabes que tu siervo era temeroso de Jehová; y ha venido el acreedor para tomarse dos hijos míos por siervos.
Y Eliseo le dijo: ¿Qué te haré yo? Declárame qué tienes en casa. Y ella dijo: Tu sierva ninguna cosa tiene en casa, sino una vasija de aceite.
Él le dijo: Ve y pide para ti vasijas prestadas de todos tus vecinos, vasijas vacías, no pocas.
Entra luego, y enciérrate tú y tus hijos; y echa en todas las vasijas, y cuando una esté llena, ponla aparte.
Y se fue la mujer, y cerró la puerta encerrándose ella y sus hijos; y ellos le traían las vasijas, y ella echaba del aceite.
Cuando las vasijas estuvieron llenas, dijo a un hijo suyo: Tráeme aún otras vasijas. Y él dijo: No hay más vasijas. Entonces cesó el aceite.
Vino ella luego, y lo contó al varón de Dios, el cual dijo: Ve y vende el aceite, y paga a tus acreedores; y tú y tus hijos vivid de lo que quede.

Eliseo y la sunamita
Aconteció también que un día pasaba Eliseo por Sunem; y había allí una mujer importante, que le invitaba insistentemente a que comiese; y cuando él pasaba por allí, venía a la casa de ella a comer.
Y ella dijo a su marido: He aquí ahora, yo entiendo que este que siempre pasa por nuestra casa, es varón santo de Dios.
Yo te ruego que hagamos un pequeño aposento de paredes, y pongamos allí cama, mesa, silla y candelero, para que cuando él viniere a nosotros, se quede en él.
Y aconteció que un día vino él por allí, y se quedó en aquel aposento, y allí durmió.
Entonces dijo a Giezi su criado: Llama a esta sunamita. Y cuando la llamó, vino ella delante de él.
Dijo él entonces a Giezi: Dile: He aquí tú has estado solícita por nosotros con todo este esmero; ¿qué quieres que haga por ti? ¿Necesitas que hable por ti al rey, o al general del ejército? Y ella respondió: Yo habito en medio de mi pueblo.
Y él dijo: ¿Qué, pues, haremos por ella? Y Giezi respondió: He aquí que ella no tiene hijo, y su marido es viejo.
Dijo entonces: Llámala. Y él la llamó, y ella se paró a la puerta.
Y él le dijo: El año que viene, por este tiempo, abrazarás un hijo. Y ella dijo: No, señor mío, varón de Dios, no hagas burla de tu sierva.
Mas la mujer concibió, y dio a luz un hijo el año siguiente, en el tiempo que Eliseo le había dicho.
Y el niño creció. Pero aconteció un día, que vino a su padre, que estaba con los segadores;
y dijo a su padre: ¡Ay, mi cabeza, mi cabeza! Y el padre dijo a un criado: Llévalo a su madre.
Y habiéndole él tomado y traído a su madre, estuvo sentado en sus rodillas hasta el mediodía, y murió.
Ella entonces subió, y lo puso sobre la cama del varón de Dios, y cerrando la puerta, se salió.
Llamando luego a su marido, le dijo: Te ruego que envíes conmigo a alguno de los criados y una de las asnas, para que yo vaya corriendo al varón de Dios, y regrese.
Él dijo: ¿Para qué vas a verle hoy? No es nueva luna, ni día de reposo. Y ella respondió: Paz.
Después hizo enalbardar el asna, y dijo al criado: Guía y anda; y no me hagas detener en el camino, sino cuando yo te lo dijere.
Partió, pues, y vino al varón de Dios, al monte Carmelo.
Y cuando el varón de Dios la vio de lejos, dijo a su criado Giezi: He aquí la sunamita.
Te ruego que vayas ahora corriendo a recibirla, y le digas: ¿Te va bien a ti? ¿Le va bien a tu marido, y a tu hijo? Y ella dijo: Bien.
Luego que llegó a donde estaba el varón de Dios en el monte, se asió de sus pies. Y se acercó Giezi para quitarla; pero el varón de Dios le dijo: Déjala, porque su alma está en amargura, y Jehová me ha encubierto el motivo, y no me lo ha revelado.
Y ella dijo: ¿Pedí yo hijo a mi señor? ¿No dije yo que no te burlases de mí?
Entonces dijo él a Giezi: Ciñe tus lomos, y toma mi báculo en tu mano, y ve; si alguno te encontrare, no lo saludes, y si alguno te saludare, no le respondas; y pondrás mi báculo sobre el rostro del niño.
Y dijo la madre del niño: Vive Jehová, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré.
Él entonces se levantó y la siguió. Y Giezi había ido delante de ellos, y había puesto el báculo sobre el rostro del niño; pero no tenía voz ni sentido, y así se había vuelto para encontrar a Eliseo, y se lo declaró, diciendo: El niño no despierta.
Y venido Eliseo a la casa, he aquí que el niño estaba muerto tendido sobre su cama.
Entrando él entonces, cerró la puerta tras ambos, y oró a Jehová.
Después subió y se tendió sobre el niño, poniendo su boca sobre la boca de él, y sus ojos sobre sus ojos, y sus manos sobre las manos suyas; así se tendió sobre él, y el cuerpo del niño entró en calor.
Volviéndose luego, se paseó por la casa a una y otra parte, y después subió, y se tendió sobre él nuevamente, y el niño estornudó siete veces, y abrió sus ojos.
Entonces llamó él a Giezi, y le dijo: Llama a esta sunamita. Y él la llamó. Y entrando ella, él le dijo: Toma tu hijo.
Y así que ella entró, se echó a sus pies, y se inclinó a tierra; y después tomó a su hijo, y salió.

Milagros en beneficio de los profetas
Eliseo volvió a Gilgal cuando había una grande hambre en la tierra. Y los hijos de los profetas estaban con él, por lo que dijo a su criado: Pon una olla grande, y haz potaje para los hijos de los profetas.
Y salió uno al campo a recoger hierbas, y halló una como parra montés, y de ella llenó su falda de calabazas silvestres; y volvió, y las cortó en la olla del potaje, pues no sabía lo que era.
Después sirvió para que comieran los hombres; pero sucedió que comiendo ellos de aquel guisado, gritaron diciendo: ¡Varón de Dios, hay muerte en esa olla! Y no lo pudieron comer.
Él entonces dijo: Traed harina. Y la esparció en la olla, y dijo: Da de comer a la gente. Y no hubo más mal en la olla.
Vino entonces un hombre de Baal-salisa, el cual trajo al varón de Dios panes de primicias, veinte panes de cebada, y trigo nuevo en su espiga. Y él dijo: Da a la gente para que coma.
Y respondió su sirviente: ¿Cómo pondré esto delante de cien hombres? Pero él volvió a decir: Da a la gente para que coma, porque así ha dicho Jehová: Comerán, y sobrará.
