제 5 장

나아만이 고침을 받다

1 아람 왕의 군대 장관 나아만은 그의 주인 앞에서 크고 존귀한 자니 이는 여호와께서 전에 그에게 아람을 구원하게 하셨음이라 그는 큰 용사이나 나병환자더라

2 전에 아람 사람이 떼를 지어 나가서 이스라엘 땅에서 어린 소녀 하나를 사로잡으매 그가 나아만의 아내에게 수종들더니

3 그의 여주인에게 이르되 우리 주인이 사마리아에 계신 선지자 앞에 계셨으면 좋겠나이다 그가 그 나병을 고치리이다 하는지라

4 나아만이 들어가서 그의 주인께 아뢰어 이르되 이스라엘 땅에서 온 소녀의 말이 이러이러하더이다 하니

5 아람 왕이 이르되 갈지어다 이제 내가 이스라엘 왕에게 글을 보내리라 하더라 나아만이 곧 떠날새 은 십 달란트와 금 육천 개와 의복 열 벌을 가지고 가서

6 이스라엘 왕에게 그 글을 전하니 일렀으되 내가 내 신하 나아만을 당신에게 보내오니 이 글이 당신에게 이르거든 당신은 그의 나병을 고쳐 주소서 하였더라

7 이스라엘 왕이 그 글을 읽고 자기 옷을 찢으며 이르되 내가 사람을 죽이고 살리는 하나님이냐 그가 어찌하여 사람을 내게로 보내 그의 나병을 고치라 하느냐 너희는 깊이 생각하고 저 왕이 틈을 타서 나와 더불어 시비하려 함인줄 알라 하니라

8 하나님의 사람 엘리사가 이스라엘 왕이 자기의 옷을 찢었다 함을 듣고 왕에게 보내 이르되 왕이 어찌하여 옷을 찢었나이까 그 사람을 내게로 오게 하소서 그가 이스라엘 중에 선지자가 있는 줄을 알리이다 하니라

9 나아만이 이에 말들과 병거들을 거느리고 이르러 엘리사의 집 문에 서니

10 엘리사가 사자를 그에게 보내 이르되 너는 가서 요단 강에 몸을 일곱 번 씻으라 네 살이 회복되어 깨끗하리라 하는지라

11 나아만이 노하여 물러가며 이르되 내 생각에는 그가 내게로 나와 서서 그의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 부르고 그의 손을 그 부위 위에 흔들어 나병을 고칠까 하였도다

12 다메섹 강 아바나와 바르발은 이스라엘 모든 강물보다 낫지 아니하냐 내가 거기서 몸을 씻으면 깨끗하게 되지 아니하랴 하고 몸을 돌려 분노하여 떠나니

13 그의 종들이 나아와서 말하여 이르되 내 아버지여 선지자가 당신에게 큰 일을 행하라 말하였더면 행하지 아니하였으리이까 하물며 당신에게 이르기를 씻어 깨끗하게 하라 함이리이까 하니

14 나아만이 이에 내려가서 하나님의 사람의 말대로 요단 강에 일곱 번 몸을 잠그니 그의 살이 어린 아이의 살 같이 회복되어 깨끗하게 되었더라

15 나아만이 모든 군대와 함께 하나님의 사람에게로 도로 와서 그의 앞에 서서 이르되 내가 이제 이스라엘 외에는 온 천하에 신이 없는 줄을 아나이다 청하건대 당신의 종에게서 예물을 받으소서 하니

16 이르되 내가 섬기는 여호와께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 그 앞에서 받지 아니하리라 하였더라 나아만이 받으라고 강권하되 그가 거절하니라

17 나아만이 이르되 그러면 청하건대 노새 두 마리에 실을 흙을 당신의 종에게 주소서 이제부터는 종이 번제물과 다른 희생제사를 여호와 외 다른 신에게는 드리지 아니하고 다만 여호와께 드리겠나이다

18 오직 한 가지 일이 있사오니 여호와께서 당신의 종을 용서하시기를 원하나이다 곧 내 주인께서 림몬의 신당에 들어가 거기서 경배하며 그가 내 손을 의지하시매 내가 림몬의 신당에서 몸을 굽히오니 내가 림몬의 신당에서 몸을 굽힐 때에 여호와께서 이 일에 대하여 당신의 종을 용서하시기를 원하나이다 하니

19 엘리사가 이르되 너는 평안히 가라 하니라 그가 엘리사를 떠나 조금 가니라

20 하나님의 사람 엘리사의 사환 게하시가 스스로 이르되 내 주인이 이 아람 사람 나아만에게 면하여 주고 그가 가지고 온 것을 그의 손에서 받지 아니하였도다 여호와께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 그를 쫓아가서 무엇이든지 그에게서 받으리라 하고

21 나아만의 뒤를 쫓아가니 나아만이 자기 뒤에 달려옴을 보고 수레에서 내려 맞이하여 이르되 평안이냐 하니

22 그가 이르되 평안하나이다 우리 주인께서 나를 보내시며 말씀하시기를 지금 선지자의 제자 중에 두 청년이 에브라임 산지에서부터 내게로 왔으니 청하건대 당신은 그들에게 은 한 달란트와 옷 두 벌을 주라 하시더이다

23 나아만이 이르되 바라건대 두 달란트를 받으라 하고 그를 강권하여 은 두 달란트를 두 전대에 넣어 매고 옷 두 벌을 아울러 두 사환에게 지우매 그들이 게하시 앞에서 지고 가니라

24 언덕에 이르러서는 게하시가 그 물건을 두 사환의 손에서 받아 집에 감추고 그들을 보내 가게 한 후

25 들어가 그의 주인 앞에 서니 엘리사가 이르되 게하시야 네가 어디서 오느냐 하니 대답하되 당신의 종이 아무데도 가지 아니하였나이다 하니라

26 엘리사가 이르되 한 사람이 수레에서 내려 너를 맞이할 때에 내 마음이 함께 가지 아니하였느냐 지금이 어찌 은을 받으며 옷을 받으며 감람원이나 포도원이나 양이나 소나 남종이나 여종을 받을 때이냐

27 그러므로 나아만의 나병이 네게 들어 네 자손에게 미쳐 영원토록 이르리라 하니 게하시가 그 앞에서 물러나오매 나병이 발하여 눈같이 되었더라

Naamán, general del ejército del rey de Siria, era varón grande delante de su señor, y lo tenía en alta estima, porque por medio de él había dado Jehová salvación a Siria. Era este hombre valeroso en extremo, pero leproso. 2. Y de Siria habían salido bandas armadas, y habían llevado cautiva de la tierra de Israel a una muchacha, la cual servía a la mujer de Naamán. 3. Esta dijo a su señora: Si rogase mi señor al profeta que está en Samaria, él lo sanaría de su lepra. 4. Entrando Naamán a su señor, le relató diciendo: Así y así ha dicho una muchacha que es de la tierra de Israel. 5. Y le dijo el rey de Siria: Anda, ve, y yo enviaré cartas al rey de Israel. Salió, pues, él, llevando consigo diez talentos de plata, y seis mil piezas de oro, y diez mudas de vestidos. 6. Tomó también cartas para el rey de Israel, que decían así: Cuando lleguen a ti estas cartas, sabe por ellas que yo envío a ti mi siervo Naamán, para que lo sanes de su lepra. 7. Luego que el rey de Israel leyó las cartas, rasgó sus vestidos, y dijo: ¿Soy yo Dios, que mate y dé vida, para que este envíe a mí a que sane un hombre de su lepra? Considerad ahora, y ved cómo busca ocasión contra mí. 8. Cuando Eliseo el varón de Dios oyó que el rey de Israel había rasgado sus vestidos, envió a decir al rey: ¿Por qué has rasgado tus vestidos? Venga ahora a mí, y sabrá que hay profeta en Israel. 9. Y vino Naamán con sus caballos y con su carro, y se paró a las puertas de la casa de Eliseo. 10. Entonces Eliseo le envió un mensajero, diciendo: Ve y lávate siete veces en el Jordán, y tu carne se te restaurará, y serás limpio. 11. Y Naamán se fue enojado, diciendo: He aquí yo decía para mí: Saldrá él luego, y estando en pie invocará el nombre de Jehová su Dios, y alzará su mano y tocará el lugar, y sanará la lepra. 12. Abana y Farfar, ríos de Damasco, ¿no son mejores que todas las aguas de Israel? Si me lavare en ellos, ¿no seré también limpio? Y se volvió, y se fue enojado. 13. Mas sus criados se le acercaron y le hablaron diciendo: Padre mío, si el profeta te mandara alguna gran cosa, ¿no la harías? ¿Cuánto más, diciéndote: Lávate, y serás limpio? 14. Él entonces descendió, y se zambulló siete veces en el Jordán, conforme a la palabra del varón de Dios; y su carne se volvió como la carne de un niño, y quedó limpio. 15. Y volvió al varón de Dios, él y toda su compañía, y se puso delante de él, y dijo: He aquí ahora conozco que no hay Dios en toda la tierra, sino en Israel. Te ruego que recibas algún presente de tu siervo. 16. Mas él dijo: Vive Jehová, en cuya presencia estoy, que no lo aceptaré. Y le instaba que aceptara alguna cosa, pero él no quiso. 17. Entonces Naamán dijo: Te ruego, pues, ¿de esta tierra no se dará a tu siervo la carga de un par de mulas? Porque de aquí en adelante tu siervo no sacrificará holocausto ni ofrecerá sacrificio a otros dioses, sino a Jehová. 18. En esto perdone Jehová a tu siervo: que cuando mi señor el rey entrare en el templo de Rimón para adorar en él, y se apoyare sobre mi brazo, si yo también me inclinare en el templo de Rimón; cuando haga tal, Jehová perdone en esto a tu siervo. 19. Y él le dijo: Ve en paz. Se fue, pues, y caminó como media legua de tierra. 20. Entonces Giezi, criado de Eliseo el varón de Dios, dijo entre sí: He aquí mi señor estorbó a este sirio Naamán, no tomando de su mano las cosas que había traído. Vive Jehová, que correré yo tras él y tomaré de él alguna cosa. 21. Y siguió Giezi a Naamán; y cuando vio Naamán que venía corriendo tras él, se bajó del carro para recibirle, y dijo: ¿Va todo bien? 22. Y él dijo: Bien. Mi señor me envía a decirte: He aquí vinieron a mí en esta hora del monte de Efraín dos jóvenes de los hijos de los profetas; te ruego que les des un talento de plata, y dos vestidos nuevos. 23. Dijo Naamán: Te ruego que tomes dos talentos. Y le insistió, y ató dos talentos de plata en dos bolsas, y dos vestidos nuevos, y lo puso todo a cuestas a dos de sus criados para que lo llevasen delante de él. 24. Y así que llegó a un lugar secreto, él lo tomó de mano de ellos, y lo guardó en la casa; luego mandó a los hombres que se fuesen. 25. Y él entró, y se puso delante de su señor. Y Eliseo le dijo: ¿De dónde vienes, Giezi? Y él dijo: Tu siervo no ha ido a ninguna parte. 26. Él entonces le dijo: ¿No estaba también allí mi corazón, cuando el hombre volvió de su carro a recibirte? ¿Es tiempo de tomar plata, y de tomar vestidos, olivares, viñas, ovejas, bueyes, siervos y siervas? 27. So Naaman went in and told his lord, “Thus and so spoke the girl from the land of Israel.” 5. And the king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” So he went, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing. 6. And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, which read, “When this letter reaches you, know that I have sent to you Naaman my servant, that you may cure him of his leprosy.” 7. And when the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? Only consider, and see how he is seeking a quarrel with me.” 8. But when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, that he may know that there is a prophet in Israel.” 9. So Naaman came with his horses and chariots and stood at the door of Elisha’s house. 10. And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean.” 11. But Naaman was angry and went away, saying, “Behold, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call upon the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper. 12. Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage. 13. But his servants came near and said to him, “My father, it is a great word the prophet has spoken to you; will you not do it? Has he actually said to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” 14. So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. Gehazi’s Greed and Punishment 15. Then he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and he came and stood before him. And he said, “Behold, I know that there is no God in all the earth but in Israel; so accept now a present from your servant.” 16. But he said, “As the Lord lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none.” And he urged him to take it, but he refused. 17. Then Naaman said, “If not, please let there be given to your servant two mule loads of earth, for from now on your servant will not offer burnt offering or sacrifice to any god but the Lord. 18. In this matter may the Lord pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, leaning on my arm, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, when I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, the Lord pardon your servant in this matter.” 19. He said to him, “Go in peace.” But when Naaman had gone from him a short distance, 20. Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “See, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not accepting from his hand what he brought. As the Lord lives, I will run after him and get something from him.” 21. So Gehazi followed Naaman. And when Naaman saw someone running after him, he got down from the chariot to meet him and said, “Is all well?” 22. And he said, “All is well. My master has sent me to say, ‘There have just now come to me from the hill country of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothing.’” 23. And Naaman said, “Be pleased to accept two talents.” And he urged him and tied up two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of clothing, and laid them on two of his servants. And they carried them before Gehazi. 24. And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand and put them in the house, and he sent the men away, and they departed. 25. He went in and stood before his master, and Elisha said to him, “Where have you been, Gehazi?” And he said, “Your servant went nowhere.” 26. But he said to him, “Did not my heart go when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Was it a time to accept money and garments, olive orchards and vineyards, sheep and oxen, male servants and female servants? 27. Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your descendants forever.” So he went out from his presence a leper, like snow.

Mas sus criados se le acercaron y le hablaron diciendo: Padre mío, si el profeta te mandara alguna gran cosa, ¿no la harías? ¿Cuánto más, diciéndote: Lávate, y serás limpio?
Él entonces descendió, y se zambulló siete veces en el Jordán, conforme a la palabra del varón de Dios; y su carne se volvió como la carne de un niño, y quedó limpio.
Y volvió al varón de Dios, él y toda su compañía, y se puso delante de él, y dijo: He aquí ahora conozco que no hay Dios en toda la tierra, sino en Israel. Te ruego que recibas algún presente de tu siervo.
Mas él dijo: Vive Jehová, en cuya presencia estoy, que no lo aceptaré. Y le instaba que aceptara alguna cosa, pero él no quiso.
Entonces Naamán dijo: Te ruego, pues, ¿de esta tierra no se dará a tu siervo la carga de un par de mulas? Porque de aquí en adelante tu siervo no sacrificará holocausto ni ofrecerá sacrificio a otros dioses, sino a Jehová.
En esto perdone Jehová a tu siervo: que cuando mi señor el rey entrare en el templo de Rimón para adorar en él, y se apoyare sobre mi brazo, si yo también me inclinare en el templo de Rimón; cuando haga tal, Jehová perdone en esto a tu siervo.
Y él le dijo: Ve en paz. Se fue, pues, y caminó como media legua de tierra.
Entonces Giezi, criado de Eliseo el varón de Dios, dijo entre sí: He aquí mi señor estorbó a este sirio Naamán, no tomando de su mano las cosas que había traído. Vive Jehová, que correré yo tras él y tomaré de él alguna cosa.
Y siguió Giezi a Naamán; y cuando vio Naamán que venía corriendo tras él, se bajó del carro para recibirle, y dijo: ¿Va todo bien?
Y él dijo: Bien. Mi señor me envía a decirte: He aquí vinieron a mí en esta hora del monte de Efraín dos jóvenes de los hijos de los profetas; te ruego que les des un talento de plata, y dos vestidos nuevos.
Dijo Naamán: Te ruego que tomes dos talentos. Y le insistió, y ató dos talentos de plata en dos bolsas, y dos vestidos nuevos, y lo puso todo a cuestas a dos de sus criados para que lo llevasen delante de él.
Y así que llegó a un lugar secreto, él lo tomó de mano de ellos, y lo guardó en la casa; luego mandó a los hombres que se fuesen.
Y él entró, y se puso delante de su señor. Y Eliseo le dijo: ¿De dónde vienes, Giezi? Y él dijo: Tu siervo no ha ido a ninguna parte.
Él entonces le dijo: ¿No estaba también allí mi corazón, cuando el hombre volvió de su carro a recibirte? ¿Es tiempo de tomar plata, y de tomar vestidos, olivares, viñas, ovejas, bueyes, siervos y siervas?
Por tanto, la lepra de Naamán se te pegará a ti y a tu descendencia para siempre. Y salió de delante de él leproso, blanco como la nieve.

Naaman Healed of Leprosy

Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master and in high favor, because by him the Lord had given victory to Syria. He was a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper.
Now the Syrians on one of their raids had carried off a little girl from the land of Israel, and she worked in the service of Naaman’s wife.
She said to her mistress, “Would that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.”
So Naaman went in and told his lord, “Thus and so spoke the girl from the land of Israel.”
And the king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.”
So he went, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing.
And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, which read, “When this letter reaches you, know that I have sent to you Naaman my servant, that you may cure him of his leprosy.”
And when the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? Only consider, and see how he is seeking a quarrel with me.”
But when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, that he may know that there is a prophet in Israel.”
So Naaman came with his horses and chariots and stood at the door of Elisha’s house.
And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean.”
But Naaman was angry and went away, saying, “Behold, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call upon the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper.
Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage.
But his servants came near and said to him, “My father, it is a great word the prophet has spoken to you; will you not do it? Has he actually said to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?”
So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

Gehazi’s Greed and Punishment
Then he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and he came and stood before him. And he said, “Behold, I know that there is no God in all the earth but in Israel; so accept now a present from your servant.”
But he said, “As the Lord lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none.” And he urged him to take it, but he refused.
Then Naaman said, “If not, please let there be given to your servant two mule loads of earth, for from now on your servant will not offer burnt offering or sacrifice to any god but the Lord.
In this matter may the Lord pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, leaning on my arm, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, when I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, the Lord pardon your servant in this matter.”
He said to him, “Go in peace.”
But when Naaman had gone from him a short distance,
Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “See, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not accepting from his hand what he brought. As the Lord lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”
So Gehazi followed Naaman. And when Naaman saw someone running after him, he got down from the chariot to meet him and said, “Is all well?”
And he said, “All is well. My master has sent me to say, ‘There have just now come to me from the hill country of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothing.’”
And Naaman said, “Be pleased to accept two talents.” And he urged him and tied up two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of clothing, and laid them on two of his servants. And they carried them before Gehazi.
And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand and put them in the house, and he sent the men away, and they departed.
He went in and stood before his master, and Elisha said to him, “Where have you been, Gehazi?” And he said, “Your servant went nowhere.”
But he said to him, “Did not my heart go when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Was it a time to accept money and garments, olive orchards and vineyards, sheep and oxen, male servants and female servants?
Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your descendants forever.” So he went out from his presence a leper, like snow.
