제 7 장

1 엘리사가 이르되 여호와의 말씀을 들을지어다 여호와께서 이르시되 내일 이맘때에 사마리아 성문에서 고운 밀가루 한 스아를 한 세겔로 매매하고 보리 두 스아를 한 세겔로 매매하리라 하셨느니라

2 그 때에 왕이 그의 손에 의지하는 자 곧 한 장관이 하나님의 사람에게 대답하여 이르되 여호와께서 하늘에 창을 내신들 어찌 이런 일이 있으리요 하더라 엘리사가 이르되 네가 네 눈으로 보리라 그러나 그것을 먹지는 못하리라 하니라

아람 군대가 도망하다

3 성문 어귀에 나병환자 네 사람이 있더니 그 친구에게 서로 말하되 우리가 어찌하여 여기 앉아서 죽기를 기다리랴

4 만일 우리가 성읍으로 가자고 말한다면 성읍에는 굶주림이 있으니 우리가 거기서 죽을 것이요 만일 우리가 여기서 머무르면 역시 우리가 죽을 것이라 그런즉 우리가 가서 아람 군대에게 항복하자 그들이 우리를 살려 두면 살 것이요 우리를 죽이면 죽을 것이라 하고

5 아람 진으로 가려 하여 해 질 무렵에 일어나 아람 진영 끝에 이르러서 본즉 그 곳에 한 사람도 없으니

6 이는 주께서 아람 군대로 병거 소리와 말 소리와 큰 군대의 소리를 듣게 하셨으므로 아람 사람이 서로 말하기를 이스라엘 왕이 우리를 치려 하여 헷 사람의 왕들과 애굽 왕들에게 값을 주고 그들을 우리에게 오게 하였다 하고

7 해질 무렵에 일어나서 도망하되 그 장막과 말과 나귀를 버리고 진영을 그대로 두고 목숨을 위하여 도망하였음이라

8 그 나병환자들이 진영 끝에 이르자 한 장막에 들어가서 먹고 마시고 거기서 은과 금과 의복을 가지고 가서 감추고 다시 와서 다른 장막에 들어가 거기서도 가지고 가서 감추니라

9 나병환자들이 그 친구에게 서로 말하되 우리가 이렇게 해서는 아니되겠도다 오늘은 아름다운 소식이 있는 날이거늘 우리가 침묵하고 있도다 만일 밝은 아침까지 기다리면 벌이 우리에게 미칠지니 이제 떠나 왕궁에 가서 알리자 하고

10 가서 성읍 문지기를 불러 그들에게 말하여 이르되 우리가 아람 진에 이르러서 보니 거기에 한 사람도 없고 사람의 소리도 없고 오직 말과 나귀만 매여 있고 장막들이 그대로 있더이다 하는지라

11 그가 문지기들을 부르매 그들이 왕궁에 있는 자에게 말하니

12 왕이 밤에 일어나 그의 신복들에게 이르되 아람 사람이 우리에게 행한 것을 내가 너희에게 알게 하노니 그들이 우리가 주린 것을 알고 있으므로 그 진영을 떠나서 들에 매복하고 스스로 이르기를 그들이 성읍에서 나오거든 우리가 사로잡고 성읍에 들어가겠다 한 것이니라 하니

13 그의 신하 중 한 사람이 대답하여 이르되 청하건대 아직 성중에 남아 있는 말 다섯 마리를 취하고 사람을 보내 정탐하게 하소서 그것들이 성중에 남아 있는 이스라엘 온 무리 곧 멸망한 이스라엘 온 무리와 같으니이다 하고

14 그들이 병거 둘과 그 말들을 취한지라 왕이 아람 군대 뒤로 보내며 가서 정탐하라 하였더니

15 그들이 그들의 뒤를 따라 요단에 이른즉 아람 사람이 급히 도망하느라고 버린 의복과 병기가 길에 가득하였더라 사자가 돌아와서 왕에게 알리니

16 백성들이 나가서 아람 사람의 진영을 노략한지라 이에 고운 밀가루 한 스아에 한 세겔이 되고 보리 두 스아가 한 세겔이 되니 여호와의 말씀과 같이 되었고

17 왕이 그의 손에 의지하였던 그의 장관을 세워 성문을 지키게 하였더니 백성이 성문에서 그를 밟으매 하나님의 사람의 말대로 죽었으니 곧 왕이 내려왔을 때에 그가 말한 대로라

18 하나님의 사람이 왕에게 말한 바와 같으니 이르기를 내일 이맘 때에 사마리아 성문에서 보리 두 스아를 한 세겔로 매매하고 고운 밀가루 한 스아를 한 세겔로 매매하리라 한즉

19 그 때에 이 장관이 하나님의 사람에게 대답하여 이르되 여호와께서 하늘에 창을 내신들 어찌 이 일이 있으랴 하매 대답하기를 네가 네 눈으로 보리라 그러나 그것을 먹지는 못하리라 하였더니

20 그의 장관에게 그대로 이루어졌으니 곧 백성이 성문에서 그를 밟으매 죽었더라

Dijo entonces Eliseo: Oíd palabra de Jehová: Así dijo Jehová: Mañana a estas horas valdrá el seah de flor de harina un siclo, y dos seahs de cebada un siclo, a la puerta de Samaria. 2. Y un príncipe sobre cuyo brazo el rey se apoyaba, respondió al varón de Dios, y dijo: Si Jehová hiciese ahora ventanas en el cielo, ¿sería esto así? Y él dijo: He aquí tú lo verás con tus ojos, mas no comerás de ello. 3. Había a la entrada de la puerta cuatro hombres leprosos, los cuales dijeron el uno al otro: ¿Para qué nos estamos aquí hasta que muramos? 4. Si tratáremos de entrar en la ciudad, por el hambre que hay en la ciudad moriremos en ella; y si nos quedamos aquí, también moriremos. Vamos, pues, ahora, y pasemos al campamento de los sirios; si ellos nos dieren la vida, viviremos; y si nos dieren la muerte, moriremos. 5. Se levantaron, pues, al anochecer, para ir al campamento de los sirios; y llegando a la entrada del campamento de los sirios, no había allí nadie. 6. Porque Jehová había hecho que en el campamento de los sirios se oyese estruendo de carros, ruido de caballos, y estrépito de gran ejército; y se dijeron unos a otros: He aquí, el rey de Israel ha tomado a sueldo contra nosotros a los reyes de los heteos y a los reyes de los egipcios, para que vengan contra nosotros. 7. Y así se levantaron y huyeron al anochecer, abandonando sus tiendas, sus caballos, sus asnos, y el campamento como estaba; y habían huido para salvar sus vidas. 8. Cuando los leprosos llegaron a la entrada del campamento, entraron en una tienda y comieron y bebieron, y tomaron de allí plata y oro y vestidos, y fueron y lo escondieron; y vueltos, entraron en otra tienda, y de allí también tomaron, y fueron y lo escondieron. 9. Luego se dijeron el uno al otro: No estamos haciendo bien. Hoy es día de buena nueva, y nosotros callamos; y si esperamos hasta el amanecer, nos alcanzará nuestra maldad. Vamos pues, ahora, entremos y demos la nueva en casa del rey. 10. Vinieron, pues, y gritaron a los guardas de la puerta de la ciudad, y les declararon, diciendo: Nosotros fuimos al campamento de los sirios, y he aquí que no había allí nadie, ni voz de hombre, sino caballos atados, asnos también atados, y el campamento intacto. 11. Los porteros gritaron, y lo anunciaron dentro, en el palacio del rey. 12. Y se levantó el rey de noche, y dijo a sus siervos: Yo os declararé lo que nos han hecho los sirios. Ellos saben que tenemos hambre, y han salido de las tiendas y se han escondido en el campo, diciendo: Cuando hayan salido de la ciudad, los tomaremos vivos, y entraremos en la ciudad. 13. Entonces respondió uno de sus siervos y dijo: Tomen ahora cinco de los caballos que han quedado en la ciudad (porque los que quedan acá también perecerán como toda la multitud de Israel que ya ha perecido), y enviemos y veamos qué hay. 14. Tomaron, pues, dos caballos de un carro, y envió el rey al campamento de los sirios, diciendo: Id y ved. 15. Y ellos fueron, y los siguieron hasta el Jordán; y he aquí que todo el camino estaba lleno de vestidos y enseres que los sirios habían arrojado por la premura. Y volvieron los mensajeros y lo hicieron saber al rey. 16. Entonces el pueblo salió, y saqueó el campamento de los sirios. Y fue vendido un seah de flor de harina por un siclo, y dos seahs de cebada por un siclo, conforme a la palabra de Jehová. 17. Y el rey puso a la puerta a aquel príncipe sobre cuyo brazo él se apoyaba; y lo atropelló el pueblo a la entrada, y murió, conforme a lo que había dicho el varón de Dios, cuando el rey descendió a él. 18. Aconteció, pues, de la manera que el varón de Dios había hablado al rey, diciendo: Dos seahs de cebada por un siclo, y el seah de flor de harina será vendido por un siclo mañana a estas horas, a la puerta de Samaria. 19. A lo cual aquel príncipe había respondido al varón de Dios, diciendo: Si Jehová hiciese ventanas en el cielo, ¿pudiera suceder esto? Y él dijo: He aquí tú lo verás con tus ojos, mas no comerás de ello. 20. Y le sucedió así; porque el pueblo le atropelló a la entrada, y murió. 2 Kings 7 Elisha Promises Food 1. If we say, ‘Let us enter the city,’ the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. And if we sit here, we die also. So now come, let us go over to the camp of the Syrians. If they spare our lives we shall live, and if they kill us we shall but die.” 5. So they arose at twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians. But when they came to the edge of the camp of the Syrians, behold, there was no one there. 6. For the Lord had made the army of the Syrians hear the sound of chariots and of horses, the sound of a great army, so that they said to one another, “Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Egypt to come against us.” 7. So they fled away in the twilight and abandoned their tents, their horses, and their donkeys, leaving the camp as it was, and fled for their lives. 8. And when these lepers came to the edge of the camp, they went into a tent and ate and drank, and they carried off silver and gold and clothing and went and hid them. Then they came back and entered another tent and carried off things from it and went and hid them. 9. Then they said to one another, “We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news. If we are silent and wait until the morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come; let us go and tell the king’s household.” 10. So they came and called to the gatekeepers of the city and told them, “We came to the camp of the Syrians, and behold, there was no one to be seen or heard there, nothing but the horses tied and the donkeys tied and the tents as they were.” 11. Then the gatekeepers called out, and it was told within the king’s household. 12. And the king rose in the night and said to his servants, “I will tell you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the open country, thinking, ‘When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive and get into the city.’” 13. And one of his servants said, “Let some men take five of the remaining horses, seeing that those who are left here will fare like the whole multitude of Israel who have already perished. Let us send and see.” 14. So they took two horsemen, and the king sent them after the army of the Syrians, saying, “Go and see.” 15. So they went after them as far as the Jordan, and behold, all the way was littered with garments and equipment that the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king. 16. Then the people went out and plundered the camp of the Syrians. So a seah of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord. 17. Now the king had appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to have charge of the gate. And the people trampled him in the gate, so that he died, as the man of God had said when the king came down to him. 18. For when the man of God had said to the king, “Two seahs of barley shall be sold for a shekel, and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, about this time tomorrow in the gate of Samaria,” 19. the captain had answered the man of God, “If the Lord himself should make windows in heaven, could such a thing be?” And he had said, “You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it.” 20. And so it happened to him, for the people trampled him in the gate and he died.

Elisha Promises Food

But Elisha said, “Hear the word of the Lord: thus says the Lord, Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.”
Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned said to the man of God, “If the Lord himself should make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” But he said, “You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”

The Syrians Flee
Now there were four men who were lepers at the entrance to the gate. And they said to one another, “Why are we sitting here until we die?

So they went after them as far as the Jordan, and behold, all the way was littered with garments and equipment that the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.
Then the people went out and plundered the camp of the Syrians. So a seah of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord.
Now the king had appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to have charge of the gate. And the people trampled him in the gate, so that he died, as the man of God had said when the king came down to him.
For when the man of God had said to the king, “Two seahs of barley shall be sold for a shekel, and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, about this time tomorrow in the gate of Samaria,”
the captain had answered the man of God, “If the Lord himself should make windows in heaven, could such a thing be?” And he had said, “You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”
And so it happened to him, for the people trampled him in the gate and he died.
