제 14 장
아사가 유다 왕이 되다
1 아비야가 그의 조상들과 함께 누우매 다윗 성에 장사되고 그의 아들 아사가 대신하여 왕이 되니 그의 시대에 그의 땅이 십 년 동안 평안하니라
2 아사가 그의 하나님 여호와 보시기에 선과 정의를 행하여
3 이방 제단과 산당을 없애고 주상을 깨뜨리며 아세라 상을 찍고
4 유다 사람에게 명하여 그 조상들의 하나님 여호와를 찾게 하며 그의 율법과 명령을 행하게 하고
5 또 유다 모든 성읍에서 산당과 태양상을 없애매 나라가 그 앞에서 평안함을 누리니라
6 여호와께서 아사에게 평안을 주셨으므로 그 땅이 평안하여 여러 해 싸움이 없은지라 그가 견고한 성읍들을 유다에 건축하니라
7 아사가 일찍이 유다 사람에게 이르되 우리가 우리 하나님 여호와를 찾았으므로 이 땅이 아직 우리 앞에 있나니 우리가 이 성읍들을 건축하고 그 주위에 성곽과 망대와 문과 빗장을 만들자 우리가 주를 찾았으므로 주께서 우리 사방에 평안을 주셨느니라 하고 이에 그들이 성읍을 형통하게 건축하였더라
8 아사의 군대는 유다 중에서 큰 방패와 창을 잡는 자가 삼십만 명이요 베냐민 중에서 작은 방패를 잡으며 활을 당기는 자가 이십팔만 명이라 그들은 다 큰 용사였더라
9 구스 사람 세라가 그들을 치려 하여 군사 백만 명과 병거 삼백 대를 거느리고 마레사에 이르매
10 아사가 마주 나가서 마레사의 스바다 골짜기에 전열을 갖추고
11 아사가 그의 하나님 여호와께 부르짖어 이르되 여호와여 힘이 강한 자와 약한 자 사이에는 주밖에 도와 줄 이가 없사오니 우리 하나님 여호와여 우리를 도우소서 우리가 주를 의지하오며 주의 이름을 의탁하옵고 이 많은 무리를 치러 왔나이다 여호와여 주는 우리 하나님이시오니 원하건대 사람이 주를 이기지 못하게 하옵소서 하였더니
12 여호와께서 구스 사람들을 아사와 유다 사람들 앞에서 치시니 구스 사람들이 도망하는지라
13 아사와 그와 함께 한 백성이 구스 사람들을 추격하여 그랄까지 이르매 이에 구스 사람들이 엎드러지고 살아 남은 자가 없었으니 이는 여호와 앞에서와 그의 군대 앞에서 패망하였음이라 노략한 물건이 매우 많았더라
14 여호와께서 그랄 사면 모든 성읍 백성을 두렵게 하시니 무리가 그의 모든 성읍을 치고 그 가운데에 있는 많은 물건을 노략하고
15 또 짐승 지키는 천막을 치고 양과 낙타를 많이 이끌고 예루살렘으로 돌아왔더라

Reinado de Asa
(1 R. 15.9-12)
1Durmió Abías con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de David; y reinó en su lugar su hijo Asa, en cuyos días tuvo sosiego el país por diez años. 2E hizo Asa lo bueno y lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová su Dios. 3Porque quitó los altares del culto extraño, y los lugares altos; quebró las imágenes, y destruyó los símbolos de Asera; 4y mandó a Judá que buscase a Jehová el Dios de sus padres, y pusiese por obra la ley y sus mandamientos. 5Quitó asimismo de todas las ciudades de Judá los lugares altos y las imágenes; y estuvo el reino en paz bajo su reinado. 6Y edificó ciudades fortificadas en Judá, por cuanto había paz en la tierra, y no había guerra contra él en aquellos tiempos; porque Jehová le había dado paz. 7Dijo, por tanto, a Judá: Edifiquemos estas ciudades, y cerquémoslas de muros con torres, puertas y barras, ya que la tierra es nuestra; porque hemos buscado a Jehová nuestro Dios; le hemos buscado, y él nos ha dado paz por todas partes. Edificaron, pues, y fueron prosperados. 8Tuvo también Asa ejército que traía escudos y lanzas: de Judá trescientos mil, y de Benjamín doscientos ochenta mil que traían escudos y entesaban arcos, todos hombres diestros.
9Y salió contra ellos Zera etíope con un ejército de un millón de hombres y trescientos carros; y vino hasta Maresa. 10Entonces salió Asa contra él, y ordenaron la batalla en el valle de Sefata junto a Maresa. 11Y clamó Asa a Jehová su Dios, y dijo: ¡Oh Jehová, para ti no hay diferencia alguna en dar ayuda al poderoso o al que no tiene fuerzas! Ayúdanos, oh Jehová Dios nuestro, porque en ti nos apoyamos, y en tu nombre venimos contra este ejército. Oh Jehová, tú eres nuestro Dios; no prevalezca contra ti el hombre. 12Y Jehová deshizo a los etíopes delante de Asa y delante de Judá; y huyeron los etíopes. 13Y Asa, y el pueblo que con él estaba, los persiguieron hasta Gerar; y cayeron los etíopes hasta no quedar en ellos aliento, porque fueron deshechos delante de Jehová y de su ejército. Y les tomaron muy grande botín. 14Atacaron también todas las ciudades alrededor de Gerar, porque el terror de Jehová cayó sobre ellas; y saquearon todas las ciudades, porque había en ellas gran botín. 15Asimismo atacaron las cabañas de los que tenían ganado, y se llevaron muchas ovejas y camellos, y volvieron a Jerusalén.

Asa Reigns in Judah
1 Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days the land had rest for ten years. 2 And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God. 3He took away the foreign altars and the high places and broke down the pillars and cut down the Asherim 4and commanded Judah to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, and to keep the law and the commandment. 5He also took out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the incense altars. And the kingdom had rest under him. 6He built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest. He had no war in those years, for the Lord gave him peace. 7And he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the Lord our God. We have sought him, and he has given us peace on every side.” So they built and prospered. 8And Asa had an army of 300,000 from Judah, armed with large shields and spears, and 280,000 men from Benjamin that carried shields and drew bows. All these were mighty men of valor.
9Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and 300 chariots, and came as far as Mareshah. 10And Asa went out to meet him, and they drew up their lines of battle in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. 11And Asa cried to the Lord his God, “O Lord, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God; let not man prevail against you.” 12So the Lord defeated the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled. 13Asa and the people who were with him pursued them as far as Gerar, and the Ethiopians fell until none remained alive, for they were broken before the Lord and his army. The men of Judah carried away very much spoil. 14And they attacked all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of the Lord was upon them. They plundered all the cities, for there was much plunder in them. 15And they struck down the tents of those who had livestock and carried away sheep in abundance and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
