솔로몬의 축복(왕상 8:12-21)

1   그 때에 솔로몬이 이르되 여호와께서 캄캄한 데 계시겠다 말씀하셨사오나

2   내가 주를 위하여 거하실 성전을 건축하였사오니 주께서 영원히 계실 처소로소이다 하고

3   얼굴을 돌려 이스라엘 온 회중을 위하여 축복하니 그 때에 이스라엘의 온 회중이 서 있더라

4   왕이 이르되 이스라엘 하나님 여호와를 송축할지로다 여호와께서 그의 입으로 내 아버지 다윗에게 말씀하신 것을 이제 그의 손으로 이루셨도다 이르시기를

5   내가 내 백성을 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 낸 날부터 내 이름을 둘 만한 집을 건축하기 위하여 이스라엘 모든 지파 가운데서 아무 성읍도 택하지 아니하였으며 내 백성 이스라엘의 주권자가 될 사람을 아무도 택하지 아니하였더니

6   예루살렘을 택하여 내 이름을 거기 두고 또 다윗을 택하여 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스리게 하였노라 하신지라

7   내 아버지 다윗이 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축할 마음이 있었더니

8   여호와께서 내 아버지 다윗에게 이르시되 네가 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축할 마음이 있으니 이 마음이 네게 있는 것이 좋도다

9   그러나 너는 그 성전을 건축하지 못할 것이요 네 허리에서 나올 네 아들 그가 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하리라 하시더니

10   이제 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 이루셨도다 내가 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 내 아버지 다윗을 대신하여 일어나 이스라엘 왕위에 앉고 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하고

11   내가 또 그 곳에 여호와께서 이스라엘 자손과 더불어 세우신 언약을 넣은 궤를 두었노라 하니라

솔로몬의 기도(왕상 8:22-53)

12   솔로몬이 여호와의 제단 앞에서 이스라엘의 모든 회중과 마주 서서 그의 손을 펴니라

13   솔로몬이 일찍이 놋으로 대를 만들었으니 길이가 다섯 규빗이요 너비가 다섯 규빗이요 높이가 세 규빗이라 뜰 가운데에 두었더니 그가 그 위에 서서 이스라엘의 모든 회중 앞에서 무릎을 꿇고 하늘을 향하여 손을 펴고

14   이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 천지에 주와 같은 신이 없나이다 주께서는 온 마음으로 주의 앞에서 행하는 주의 종들에게 언약을 지키시고 은혜를 베푸시나이다

15   주께서 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 허락하신 말씀을 지키시되 주의 입으로 말씀하신 것을 손으로 이루심이 오늘과 같으니이다

16   이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 주께서 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 말씀하시기를 네 자손이 그들의 행위를 삼가서 네가 내 앞에서 행한 것 같이 내 율법대로 행하기만 하면 네게로부터 나서 이스라엘 왕위에 앉을 사람이 내 앞에서 끊어지지 아니하리라 하셨사오니 이제 다윗을 위하여 그 허락하신 말씀을 지키시옵소서

17   그런즉 이스라엘 하나님 여호와여 원하건대 주는 주의 종 다윗에게 하신 말씀이 확실하게 하옵소서

18   하나님이 참으로 사람과 함께 땅에 계시리이까 보소서 하늘과 하늘들의 하늘이라도 주를 용납하지 못하겠거든 하물며 내가 건축한 이 성전이오리이까

19   그러나 나의 하나님 여호와여 주의 종의 기도와 간구를 돌아보시며 주의 종이 주 앞에서 부르짖는 것과 비는 기도를 들으시옵소서

20   주께서 전에 말씀하시기를 내 이름을 거기에 두리라 하신 곳 이 성전을 향하여 주의 눈이 주야로 보시오며 종이 이 곳을 향하여 비는 기도를 들으시옵소서

21   주의 종과 주의 백성 이스라엘이 이 곳을 향하여 기도할 때에 주는 그 간구함을 들으시되 주께서 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시고 들으시사 사하여 주옵소서

22   만일 어떤 사람이 그의 이웃에게 범죄하므로 맹세시킴을 받고 그가 와서 이 성전에 있는 주의 제단 앞에서 맹세하거든

23   주는 하늘에서 들으시고 행하시되 주의 종들을 심판하사 악한 자의 죄를 정하여 그의 행위대로 그의 머리에 돌리시고 공의로운 자를 의롭다 하사 그 의로운 대로 갚으시옵소서

24   만일 주의 백성 이스라엘이 주께 범죄하여 적국 앞에 패하게 되므로 주의 이름을 인정하고 주께로 돌아와서 이 성전에서 주께 빌며 간구하거든

25   주는 하늘에서 들으시고 주의 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 사하시고 그들과 그들의 조상들에게 주신 땅으로 돌아오게 하옵소서

26   만일 그들이 주께 범죄함으로 말미암아 하늘이 닫히고 비가 내리지 않는 주의 벌을 받을 때에 이 곳을 향하여 빌며 주의 이름을 인정하고 그들의 죄에서 떠나거든

27   주께서는 하늘에서 들으사 주의 종들과 주의 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 사하시고 그 마땅히 행할 선한 길을 가르쳐 주시오며 주의 백성에게 기업으로 주신 주의 땅에 비를 내리시옵소서

28   만일 이 땅에 기근이나 전염병이 있거나 곡식이 시들거나 깜부기가 나거나 메뚜기나 황충이 나거나 적국이 와서 성읍들을 에워싸거나 무슨 재앙이나 무슨 질병이 있거나를 막론하고

29   한 사람이나 혹 주의 온 백성 이스라엘이 다 각각 자기의 마음에 재앙과 고통을 깨닫고 이 성전을 향하여 손을 펴고 무슨 기도나 무슨 간구를 하거든

30   주는 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시며 사유하시되 각 사람의 마음을 아시오니 그의 모든 행위대로 갚으시옵소서 주만 홀로 사람의 마음을 아심이니이다

31   그리하시면 그들이 주께서 우리 조상들에게 주신 땅에서 사는 동안에 항상 주를 경외하며 주의 길로 걸어가리이다

32   주의 백성 이스라엘에 속하지 않은 이방인에게 대하여도 그들이 주의 큰 이름과 능한 손과 펴신 팔을 위하여 먼 지방에서 와서 이 성전을 향하여 기도하거든

33   주는 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시고 모든 이방인이 주께 부르짖는 대로 이루사 땅의 만민이 주의 이름을 알고 주의 백성 이스라엘처럼 경외하게 하시오며 또 내가 건축한 이 성전을 주의 이름으로 일컫는 줄을 알게 하옵소서

34   주의 백성이 그 적국과 더불어 싸우고자 하여 주께서 보내신 길로 나갈 때에 그들이 주께서 택하신 이 성과 내가 주의 이름을 위하여 건축한 성전 있는 쪽을 향하여 주께 기도하거든

35   주는 하늘에서 그들의 기도와 간구를 들으시고 그들의 일을 돌보시옵소서

36   주께 범죄하지 아니하는 사람이 없사오니 그들이 주께 범죄하므로 주께서 그들에게 진노하사 그들을 적국에게 넘기시매 적국이 그들을 사로잡아 땅의 원근을 막론하고 끌고 간 후에

37   그들이 사로잡혀 간 땅에서 스스로 깨닫고 그들을 사로잡은 자들의 땅에서 돌이켜 주께 간구하기를 우리가 범죄하여 패역을 행하며 악을 행하였나이다 하며

38   자기들을 사로잡아 간 적국의 땅에서 온 마음과 온 뜻으로 주께 돌아와서 주께서 그들의 조상들에게 주신 땅과 주께서 택하신 성과 내가 주의 이름을 위하여 건축한 성전 있는 쪽을 향하여 기도하거든

39   주는 계신 곳 하늘에서 그들의 기도와 간구를 들으시고 그들의 일을 돌보시오며 주께 범죄한 주의 백성을 용서하옵소서

40   나의 하나님이여 이제 이 곳에서 하는 기도에 눈을 드시고 귀를 기울이소서

41   여호와 하나님이여 일어나 들어가사 주의 능력의 궤와 함께 주의 평안한 처소에 계시옵소서 여호와 하나님이여 원하옵건대 주의 제사장들에게 구원을 입게 하시고 또 주의 성도들에게 은혜를 기뻐하게 하옵소서

42   여호와 하나님이여 주의 기름 부음 받은 자에게서 얼굴을 돌리지 마시옵고 주의 종 1)다윗에게 베푸신 은총을 기억하옵소서 하였더라

1Entonces dijo Salomón: Jehová ha dicho que él habitaría en la oscuridad. 2Yo, pues, he edificado una casa de morada para ti, y una habitación en que mores para siempre. 3Y volviendo el rey su rostro, bendijo a toda la congregación de Israel; y toda la congregación de Israel estaba en pie. 4Y él dijo: Bendito sea Jehová Dios de Israel, quien con su mano ha cumplido lo que prometió con su boca a David mi padre, diciendo: 5Desde el día que saqué a mi pueblo de la tierra de Egipto, ninguna ciudad he elegido de todas las tribus de Israel para edificar casa donde estuviese mi nombre, ni he escogido varón que fuese príncipe sobre mi pueblo Israel. 6Mas a Jerusalén he elegido para que en ella esté mi nombre, y a David he elegido para que esté sobre mi pueblo Israel. 7Y David mi padre tuvo en su corazón edificar casa al nombre de Jehová Dios de Israel. 8Mas Jehová dijo a David mi padre: Respecto a haber tenido en tu corazón deseo de edificar casa a mi nombre, bien has hecho en haber tenido esto en tu corazón. 9Pero tú no edificarás la casa, sino tu hijo que saldrá de tus lomos, él edificará casa a mi nombre. 10Y Jehová ha cumplido su palabra que había dicho, pues me levanté yo en lugar de David mi padre, y me he sentado en el trono de Israel, como Jehová había dicho, y he edificado casa al nombre de Jehová Dios de Israel. 11Y en ella he puesto el arca, en la cual está el pacto de Jehová que celebró con los hijos de Israel.

12Se puso luego Salomón delante del altar de Jehová, en presencia de toda la congregación de Israel, y extendió sus manos. 13Porque Salomón había hecho un estrado de bronce de cinco codos de largo, de cinco codos de ancho y de altura de tres codos, y lo había puesto en medio del atrio; y se puso sobre él, se arrodilló delante de toda la congregación de Israel, y extendió sus manos al cielo, y dijo: 14Jehová Dios de Israel, no hay Dios semejante a ti en el cielo ni en la tierra, que guardas el pacto y la misericordia con tus siervos que caminan delante de ti de todo su corazón; 15que has guardado a tu siervo David mi padre lo que le prometiste; tú lo dijiste con tu boca, y con tu mano lo has cumplido, como se ve en este día. 16Ahora, pues, Jehová Dios de Israel, cumple a tu siervo David mi padre lo que le has prometido, diciendo: No faltará de ti varón delante de mí, que se siente en el trono de Israel, con tal que tus hijos guarden su camino, andando en mi ley, como tú has andado delante de mí. 17Ahora, pues, oh Jehová Dios de Israel, cúmplase tu palabra que dijiste a tu siervo David.

18Mas ¿es verdad que Dios habitará con el hombre en la tierra? He aquí, los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no te pueden contener; ¿cuánto menos esta casa que he edificado? 19Mas tú mirarás a la oración de tu siervo, y a su ruego, oh Jehová Dios mío, para oír el clamor y la oración con que tu siervo ora delante de ti. 20Que tus ojos estén abiertos sobre esta casa de día y de noche, sobre el lugar del cual dijiste: Mi nombre estará allí; que oigas la oración con que tu siervo ora en este lugar. 21Asimismo que oigas el ruego de tu siervo, y de tu pueblo Israel, cuando en este lugar hicieren oración, que tú oirás desde los cielos, desde el lugar de tu morada; que oigas y perdones.

22Si alguno pecare contra su prójimo, y se le exigiere juramento, y viniere a jurar ante tu altar en esta casa, 23tú oirás desde los cielos, y actuarás, y juzgarás a tus siervos, dando la paga al impío, haciendo recaer su proceder sobre su cabeza, y justificando al justo al darle conforme a su justicia.

24Si tu pueblo Israel fuere derrotado delante del enemigo por haber prevaricado contra ti, y se convirtiere, y confesare tu nombre, y rogare delante de ti en esta casa, 25tú oirás desde los cielos, y perdonarás el pecado de tu pueblo Israel, y les harás volver a la tierra que diste a ellos y a sus padres.

26Si los cielos se cerraren y no hubiere lluvias, por haber pecado contra ti, si oraren a ti hacia este lugar, y confesaren tu nombre, y se convirtieren de sus pecados, cuando los afligieres, 27tú los oirás en los cielos, y perdonarás el pecado de tus siervos y de tu pueblo Israel, y les enseñarás el buen camino para que anden en él, y darás lluvia sobre tu tierra, que diste por heredad a tu pueblo.

28Si hubiere hambre en la tierra, o si hubiere pestilencia, si hubiere tizoncillo o añublo, langosta o pulgón; o si los sitiaren sus enemigos en la tierra en donde moren; cualquiera plaga o enfermedad que sea; 29toda oración y todo ruego que hiciere cualquier hombre, o todo tu pueblo Israel, cualquiera que conociere su llaga y su dolor en su corazón, si extendiere sus manos hacia esta casa, 30tú oirás desde los cielos, desde el lugar de tu morada, y perdonarás, y darás a cada uno conforme a sus caminos, habiendo conocido su corazón; porque solo tú conoces el corazón de los hijos de los hombres; 31para que te teman y anden en tus caminos, todos los días que vivieren sobre la faz de la tierra que tú diste a nuestros padres.

32Y también al extranjero que no fuere de tu pueblo Israel, que hubiere venido de lejanas tierras a causa de tu gran nombre y de tu mano poderosa, y de tu brazo extendido, si viniere y orare hacia esta casa, 33tú oirás desde los cielos, desde el lugar de tu morada, y harás conforme a todas las cosas por las cuales hubiere clamado a ti el extranjero; para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan tu nombre, y te teman así como tu pueblo Israel, y sepan que tu nombre es invocado sobre esta casa que yo he edificado.

34Si tu pueblo saliere a la guerra contra sus enemigos por el camino que tú les enviares, y oraren a ti hacia esta ciudad que tú elegiste, hacia la casa que he edificado a tu nombre, 35tú oirás desde los cielos su oración y su ruego, y ampararás su causa.

36Si pecaren contra ti (pues no hay hombre que no peque), y te enojares contra ellos, y los entregares delante de sus enemigos, para que los que los tomaren los lleven cautivos a tierra de enemigos, lejos o cerca, 37y ellos volvieren en sí en la tierra donde fueren llevados cautivos; si se convirtieren, y oraren a ti en la tierra de su cautividad, y dijeren: Pecamos, hemos hecho inicuamente, impíamente hemos hecho; 38si se convirtieren a ti de todo su corazón y de toda su alma en la tierra de su cautividad, donde los hubieren llevado cautivos, y oraren hacia la tierra que tú diste a sus padres, hacia la ciudad que tú elegiste, y hacia la casa que he edificado a tu nombre; 39tú oirás desde los cielos, desde el lugar de tu morada, su oración y su ruego, y ampararás su causa, y perdonarás a tu pueblo que pecó contra ti. 40Ahora, pues, oh Dios mío, te ruego que estén abiertos tus ojos y atentos tus oídos a la oración en este lugar. 41Oh Jehová Dios, levántate ahora para habitar en tu reposo, tú y el arca de tu poder; oh Jehová Dios, sean vestidos de salvación tus sacerdotes, y tus santos se regocijen en tu bondad. 42Jehová Dios, no rechaces a tu ungido; acuérdate de tus misericordias para con David tu siervo.

Solomon Blesses the People

1 Then Solomon said, “The Lord has said that he would dwell in thick darkness. 2But I have built you an exalted house, a place for you to dwell in forever.” 3Then the king turned around and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood. 4And he said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying, 5‘Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there, and I chose no man as prince over my people Israel; 6but I have chosen Jerusalem that my name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over my people Israel.’ 7Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 8But the Lord said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart. 9Nevertheless, it is not you who shall build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’ 10Now the Lord has fulfilled his promise that he made. For I have risen in the place of David my father and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 11And there I have set the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he made with the people of Israel.”

Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication

12Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands. 13Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the court, and he stood on it. Then he knelt on his knees in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven, 14and said, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven or on earth, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart, 15who have kept with your servant David my father what you declared to him. You spoke with your mouth, and with your hand have fulfilled it this day. 16Now therefore, O Lord, God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father what you have promised him, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk in my law as you have walked before me.’ 17Now therefore, O Lord, God of Israel, let your word be confirmed, which you have spoken to your servant David.

18“But will God indeed dwell with man on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you, how much less this house that I have built! 19Yet have regard to the prayer of your servant and to his plea, O Lord my God, listening to the cry and to the prayer that your servant prays before you, 20that your eyes may be open day and night toward this house, the place where you have promised to set your name, that you may listen to the prayer that your servant offers toward this place. 21And listen to the pleas of your servant and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. And listen from heaven your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.

22“If a man sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath and comes and swears his oath before your altar in this house, 23then hear from heaven and act and judge your servants, repaying the guilty by bringing his conduct on his own head, and vindicating the righteous by rewarding him according to his righteousness.

24“If your people Israel are defeated before the enemy because they have sinned against you, and they turn again and acknowledge your name and pray and plead with you in this house, 25then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and bring them again to the land that you gave to them and to their fathers.

26 “When heaven is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray toward this place and acknowledge your name and turn from their sin, when you afflict them, 27then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk, and grant rain upon your land, which you have given to your people as an inheritance.

28 “If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence or blight or mildew or locust or caterpillar, if their enemies besiege them in the land at their gates, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is, 29whatever prayer, whatever plea is made by any man or by all your people Israel, each knowing his own affliction and his own sorrow and stretching out his hands toward this house, 30then hear from heaven your dwelling place and forgive and render to each whose heart you know, according to all his ways, for you, you only, know the hearts of the children of mankind, 31that they may fear you and walk in your ways all the days that they live in the land that you gave to our fathers.

32“Likewise, when a foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, comes from a far country for the sake of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm, when he comes and prays toward this house, 33hear from heaven your dwelling place and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to you, in order that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your people Israel, and that they may know that this house that I have built is called by your name.

34“If your people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatever way you shall send them, and they pray to you toward this city that you have chosen and the house that I have built for your name, 35then hear from heaven their prayer and their plea, and maintain their cause.

36“If they sin against you—for there is no one who does not sin—and you are angry with them and give them to an enemy, so that they are carried away captive to a land far or near, 37yet if they turn their heart in the land to which they have been carried captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captivity, saying, ‘We have sinned and have acted perversely and wickedly,’ 38if they repent with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity to which they were carried captive, and pray toward their land, which you gave to their fathers, the city that you have chosen and the house that I have built for your name, 39then hear from heaven your dwelling place their prayer and their pleas, and maintain their cause and forgive your people who have sinned against you. 40Now, O my God, let your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayer of this place.

41“And now arise, O Lord God, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.

Let your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let your saints rejoice in your goodness.

42O Lord God, do not turn away the face of your anointed one!

Remember your steadfast love for David your servant.”
