제 23 장

요시야가 이방 예배를 없애다(대하 34:3-7, 29-33)

1 왕이 보내 유다와 예루살렘의 모든 장로를 자기에게로 모으고

2 이에 왕이 여호와의 성전에 올라가매 유다 모든 사람과 예루살렘 주민과 제사장들과 선지자들과 모든 백성이 노소를 막론하고 다 왕과 함께 한지라 왕이 여호와의 성전 안에서 발견한 언약책의 모든 말씀을 읽어 무리의 귀에 들리고

3 왕이 단 위에 서서 여호와 앞에서 언약을 세우되 마음을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 여호와께 순종하고 그의 계명과 법도와 율례를 지켜 이 책에 기록된 이 언약의 말씀을 이루게 하리라 하매 백성이 다 그 언약을 따르기로 하니라

4 왕이 대제사장 힐기야와 모든 부제사장들과 문을 지킨 자들에게 명령하여 바알과 아세라와 하늘의 일월 성신을 위하여 만든 모든 그릇들을 여호와의 성전에서 내다가 예루살렘 바깥 기드론 밭에서 불사르고 그것들의 재를 벧엘로 가져가게 하고

5 옛적에 유다 왕들이 세워서 유다 모든 성읍과 예루살렘 주위의 산당들에서 분향하며 우상을 섬기게 한 제사장들을 폐하며 또 바알과 해와 달과 별 떼와 하늘의 모든 별에게 분향하는 자들을 폐하고

6 또 여호와의 성전에서 아세라 상을 내다가 예루살렘 바깥 기드론 시내로 가져다 거기에서 불사르고 빻아서 가루를 만들어 그 가루를 평민의 묘지에 뿌리고

7 또 여호와의 성전 가운데 남창의 집을 헐었으니 그 곳은 여인이 아세라를 위하여 휘장을 짜는 처소였더라

8 또 유다 각 성읍에서 모든 제사장을 불러오고 또 제사장이 분향하던 산당을 게바에서부터 브엘세바까지 더럽게 하고 또 성문의 산당들을 헐어 버렸으니 이 산당들은 그 성읍의 지도자 여호수아의 대문 어귀 곧 성문 왼쪽에 있었더라

9 산당들의 제사장들은 예루살렘 여호와의 제단에 올라가지 못하고 다만 그의 형제 중에서 무교병을 먹을 뿐이었더라

10 왕이 또 힌놈의 아들 골짜기의 도벳을 더럽게 하여 어떤 사람도 몰록에게 드리기 위하여 자기의 자녀를 불로 지나가지 못하게 하고

11 또 유다 여러 왕이 태양을 위하여 드린 말들을 제하여 버렸으니 이 말들은 여호와의 성전으로 들어가는 곳의 근처 내시 나단멜렉의 집 곁에 있던 것이며 또 태양 수레를 불사르고

12 유다 여러 왕이 아하스의 다락 지붕에 세운 제단들과 므낫세가 여호와의 성전 두 마당에 세운 제단들을 왕이 다 헐고 거기서 빻아내려서 그것들의 가루를 기드론 시내에 쏟아 버리고

13 또 예루살렘 앞 멸망의 산 오른쪽에 세운 산당들을 왕이 더럽게 하였으니 이는 옛적에 이스라엘 왕 솔로몬이 시돈 사람의 가증한 아스다롯과 모압 사람의 가증한 그모스와 암몬 자손의 가증한 밀곰을 위하여 세웠던 것이며

14 왕이 또 석상들을 깨뜨리며 아세라 목상들을 찍고 사람의 해골로 그 곳에 채웠더라

15 또한 이스라엘에게 범죄하게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 벧엘에 세운 제단과 산당을 왕이 헐고 또 그 산당을 불사르고 빻아서 가루를 만들며 또 아세라 목상을 불살랐더라

16 요시야가 몸을 돌이켜 산에 있는 무덤들을 보고 보내어 그 무덤에서 해골을 가져다가 제단 위에서 불살라 그 제단을 더럽게 하니라 이 일을 하나님의 사람이 전하였더니 그 전한 여호와의 말씀대로 되었더라

17 요시야가 이르되 내게 보이는 저것은 무슨 비석이냐 하니 성읍 사람들이 그에게 말하되 왕께서 벧엘의 제단에 대하여 행하신 이 일을 전하러 유다에서 왔던 하나님의 사람의 묘실이니이다 하니라

18 이르되 그대로 두고 그의 뼈를 옮기지 말라 하매 무리가 그의 뼈와 사마리아에서 온 선지자의 뼈는 그대로 두었더라

19 전에 이스라엘 여러 왕이 사마리아 각 성읍에 지어서 여호와를 격노하게 한 산당을 요시야가 다 제거하되 벧엘에서 행한 모든 일대로 행하고

20 또 거기 있는 산당의 제사장들을 다 제단 위에서 죽이고 사람의 해골을 제단 위에서 불사르고 예루살렘으로 돌아왔더라

요시야 왕이 유월절을 지키다(대하 35:1-19)

21 왕이 뭇 백성에게 명령하여 이르되 이 언약책에 기록된 대로 너희의 하나님 여호와를 위하여 유월절을 지키라 하매

22 사사가 이스라엘을 다스리던 시대부터 이스라엘 여러 왕의 시대와 유다 여러 왕의 시대에 이렇게 유월절을 지킨 일이 없었더니

23 요시야 왕 열여덟째 해에 예루살렘에서 여호와 앞에 이 유월절을 지켰더라

요시야의 나머지 개혁

24 요시야가 또 유다 땅과 예루살렘에 보이는 신접한 자와 점쟁이와 드라빔과 우상과 모든 가증한 것을 다 제거하였으니 이는 대제사장 힐기야가 여호와의 성전에서 발견한 책에 기록된 율법의 말씀을 이루려 함이라

25 요시야와 같이 마음을 다하며 뜻을 다하며 힘을 다하여 모세의 모든 율법을 따라 여호와께로 돌이킨 왕은 요시야 전에도 없었고 후에도 그와 같은 자가 없었더라

26 그러나 여호와께서 유다를 향하여 내리신 그 크게 타오르는 진노를 돌이키지 아니하셨으니 이는 므낫세가 여호와를 격노하게 한 그 모든 격노 때문이라

27 여호와께서 이르시되 내가 이스라엘을 물리친 것 같이 유다도 내 앞에서 물리치며 내가 택한 이 성 예루살렘과 내 이름을 거기에 두리라 한 이 성전을 버리리라 하셨더라

요시야가 죽다(대하 35:20-36:1)

28 요시야의 남은 사적과 행한 모든 일은 유다 왕 역대지략에 기록되지 아니하였느냐

29 요시야 당시에 애굽의 왕 바로 느고가 앗수르 왕을 치고자 하여 유브라데 강으로 올라가므로 요시야 왕이 맞서 나갔더니 애굽 왕이 요시야를 므깃도에서 만났을 때에 죽인지라

30 신복들이 그의 시체를 병거에 싣고 므깃도에서 예루살렘으로 돌아와 그의 무덤에 장사하니 백성들이 요시야의 아들 여호아하스를 데려다가 그에게 기름을 붓고 그의 아버지를 대신하여 왕으로 삼았더라

유다 왕 여호아하스(대하 36:2-4)

31 여호아하스가 왕이 될 때에 나이가 이십삼 세라 예루살렘에서 석 달간 다스리니라 그의 어머니의 이름은 하무달이라 립나 예레미야의 딸이더라

32 여호아하스가 그의 조상들의 모든 행위대로 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하였더니

33 바로 느고가 그를 하맛 땅 리블라에 가두어 예루살렘에서 왕이 되지 못하게 하고 또 그 나라로 은 백 달란트와 금 한 달란트를 벌금으로 내게 하고

34 바로 느고가 요시야의 아들 엘리아김을 그의 아버지 요시야를 대신하여 왕으로 삼고 그의 이름을 고쳐 여호야김이라 하고 여호아하스는 애굽으로 잡아갔더니 그가 거기서 죽으니라

35 여호야김이 은과 금을 바로에게 주니라 그가 바로 느고의 명령대로 그에게 그 돈을 주기 위하여 나라에 부과하되 백성들 각 사람의 힘대로 액수를 정하고 은금을 징수하였더라

유다 왕 여호야김(대하 36:5-8)

36 여호야김이 왕이 될 때에 나이가 이십오 세라 예루살렘에서 십일 년간 다스리니라 그의 어머니의 이름은 스비다라 루마 브다야의 딸이더라

37 여호야김이 그의 조상들이 행한 모든 일을 따라서 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하였더라

Entonces el rey mandó reunir con él a todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén. 2. Y subió el rey a la casa de Jehová con todos los varones de Judá, y con todos los moradores de Jerusalén, con los sacerdotes y profetas y con todo el pueblo, desde el más chico hasta el más grande; y leyó, oyéndolo ellos, todas las palabras del libro del pacto que había sido hallado en la casa de Jehová. 3. Y poniéndose el rey en pie junto a la columna, hizo pacto delante de Jehová, de que irían en pos de Jehová, y guardarían sus mandamientos, sus testimonios y sus estatutos, con todo el corazón y con toda el alma, y que cumplirían las palabras del pacto que estaban escritas en aquel libro. Y todo el pueblo confirmó el pacto. Reformas de Josías (2 Cr. 34.3-7) 4. Entonces mandó el rey al sumo sacerdote Hilcías, a los sacerdotes de segundo orden, y a los guardianes de la puerta, que sacasen del templo de Jehová todos los utensilios que habían sido hechos para Baal, para Asera y para todo el ejército de los cielos; y los quemó fuera de Jerusalén en el campo del Cedrón, e hizo llevar las cenizas de ellos a Bet-el. 5. Y quitó a los sacerdotes idólatras que habían puesto los reyes de Judá para que quemasen incienso en los lugares altos en las ciudades de Judá, y en los alrededores de Jerusalén; y asimismo a los que quemaban incienso a Baal, al sol y a la luna, y a los signos del zodíaco, y a todo el ejército de los cielos. 6. Hizo también sacar la imagen de Asera fuera de la casa de Jehová, fuera de Jerusalén, al valle del Cedrón, y la quemó en el valle del Cedrón, y la convirtió en polvo, y echó el polvo sobre los sepulcros de los hijos del pueblo. 7. Además derribó los lugares de prostitución idolátrica que estaban en la casa de Jehová, en los cuales tejían las mujeres tiendas para Asera. 8. E hizo venir todos los sacerdotes de las ciudades de Judá, y profanó los lugares altos donde los sacerdotes quemaban incienso, desde Geba hasta Beerseba; y derribó los altares de las puertas que estaban a la entrada de la puerta de Josué, gobernador de la ciudad, que estaban a la mano izquierda, a la puerta de la ciudad. 9. Pero los sacerdotes de los lugares altos no subían al altar de Jehová en Jerusalén, sino que comían panes sin levadura entre sus hermanos. 10. Asimismo profanó a Tofet, que está en el valle del hijo de Hinom, para que ninguno pasase su hijo o su hija por fuego a Moloc. 11. Quitó también los caballos que los reyes de Judá habían dedicado al sol a la entrada del templo de Jehová, junto a la cámara de Natán-melec eunuco, el cual tenía a su cargo los ejidos; y quemó al fuego los carros del sol. 12. Derribó además el rey los altares que estaban sobre la azotea de la sala de Acaz, que los reyes de Judá habían hecho, y los altares que había hecho Manasés en los dos atrios de la casa de Jehová; y de allí corrió y arrojó el polvo al arroyo del Cedrón. 13. Asimismo profanó el rey los lugares altos que estaban delante de Jerusalén, a la mano derecha del monte de la destrucción, los cuales Salomón rey de Israel había edificado a Astoret ídolo abominable de los sidonios, a Quemos ídolo abominable de Moab, y a Milcom ídolo abominable de los hijos de Amón. 14. Y quebró las estatuas, y derribó las imágenes de Asera, y llenó el lugar de ellos de huesos de hombres. 15. Igualmente el altar que estaba en Bet-el, y el lugar alto que había hecho Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel; aquel altar y el lugar alto destruyó, y lo quemó, y lo hizo polvo, y puso fuego a la imagen de Asera. 16. Y se volvió Josías, y viendo los sepulcros que estaban allí en el monte, envió y sacó los huesos de los sepulcros, y los quemó sobre el altar para contaminarlo, conforme a la palabra de Jehová que había profetizado el varón de Dios, el cual había anunciado esto. 17. Después dijo: ¿Qué monumento es este que veo? Y los de la ciudad le respondieron: Este es el sepulcro del varón de Dios que vino de Judá, y profetizó estas cosas que tú has hecho sobre el altar de Bet-el. 18. Y él dijo: Dejadlo; ninguno mueva sus huesos; y así fueron preservados sus huesos, y los huesos del profeta que había venido de Samaria. 19. Y todas las casas de los lugares altos que estaban en las ciudades de Samaria, las cuales habían hecho los reyes de Israel para provocar a ira, las quitó también Josías, e hizo de ellas como había hecho en Bet-el. 20. Mató además sobre los altares a todos los sacerdotes de los lugares altos que allí estaban, y quemó sobre ellos huesos de hombres, y volvió a Jerusalén. Josías celebra la pascua (2 Cr. 35.1-19) 21. Entonces mandó el rey a todo el pueblo, diciendo: Haced la pascua a Jehová vuestro Dios, conforme a lo que está escrito en el libro de este pacto. 22. No había sido hecha tal pascua desde los tiempos en que los jueces gobernaban a Israel, ni en todos los tiempos de los reyes de Israel y de los reyes de Judá. 23. A los dieciocho años del rey Josías fue hecha aquella pascua a Jehová en Jerusalén. Persiste la ira de Jehová contra Judá 24. Asimismo barrió Josías a los encantadores, adivinos y terafines, y todas las abominaciones que se veían en la tierra de Judá y en Jerusalén, para cumplir las palabras de la ley que estaban escritas en el libro que el sacerdote Hilcías había hallado en la casa de Jehová. 25. No hubo otro rey antes de él, que se convirtiese a Jehová de todo su corazón, de toda su alma y de todas sus fuerzas, conforme a toda la ley de Moisés; ni después de él nació otro igual. 26. Con todo eso, Jehová no desistió del ardor con que su gran ira se había encendido contra Judá, por todas las provocaciones con que Manasés le había irritado. 27. Y dijo Jehová: También quitaré de mi presencia a Judá, como quité a Israel, y desecharé a esta ciudad que había escogido, a Jerusalén, y a la casa de la cual había yo dicho: Mi nombre estará allí. Muerte de Josías (2 Cr. 35.20-27) 28. Los demás hechos de Josías, y todo lo que hizo, ¿no está todo escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá? 29. En aquellos días Faraón Necao rey de Egipto subió contra el rey de Asiria al río Éufrates, y salió contra él el rey Josías; pero aquel, así que le vio, lo mató en Meguido. 30. Y sus siervos lo pusieron en un carro, y lo trajeron muerto de Meguido a Jerusalén, y lo sepultaron en su sepulcro. Entonces el pueblo de la tierra tomó a Joacaz hijo de Josías, y lo ungieron y lo pusieron por rey en lugar de su padre. Reinado y destronamiento de Joacaz (2 Cr. 36.1-4) 31. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the Lord. 3. And the king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people joined in the covenant. 4. And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest and the priests of the second order and the keepers of the threshold to bring out of the temple of the Lord all the vessels made for Baal, for Asherah, and for all the host of heaven. He burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron and carried their ashes to Bethel. 5. And he deposed the priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to make offerings in the high places at the cities of Judah and around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and the moon and the constellations and all the host of the heavens. 6. And he brought out the Asherah from the house of the Lord, outside Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron and beat it to dust and cast the dust of it upon the graves of the common people. 7. And he broke down the houses of the male cult prostitutes who were in the house of the Lord, where the women wove hangings for the Asherah. 8. And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had made offerings, from Geba to Beersheba. And he broke down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on one’s left at the gate of the city. 9. However, the priests of the high places did not come up to the altar of the Lord in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brothers. 10. And he defiled Topheth, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, that no one might burn his son or his daughter as an offering to Molech. 11. And he removed the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun, at the entrance to the house of the Lord, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the chamberlain, which was in the precincts. And he burned the chariots of the sun with fire. 12. And the altars on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars that Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord, he pulled down and broke in pieces and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron. 13. And the king defiled the high places that were east of Jerusalem, to the south of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 14. And he broke in pieces the pillars and cut down the Asherim and filled their places with the bones of men. 15. Moreover, the altar at Bethel, the high place erected by Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, that altar with the high place he pulled down and burned, reducing it to dust. He also burned the Asherah. 16. And as Josiah turned, he saw the tombs there on the mount. And he sent and took the bones out of the tombs and burned them on the altar and defiled it, according to the word of the Lord that the man of God proclaimed, who had predicted these things. 17. Then he said, “What is that monument that I see?” And the men of the city told him, “It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and predicted these things that you have done against the altar at Bethel.” 18. And he said, “Let him be; let no man move his bones.” So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet who came out of Samaria. 19. And Josiah removed all the shrines also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which kings of Israel had made, provoking the Lord to anger. He did to them according to all that he had done at Bethel. 20. And he sacrificed all the priests of the high places who were there, on the altars, and burned human bones on them. Then he returned to Jerusalem. Josiah Restores the Passover 21. And the king commanded all the people, “Keep the Passover to the Lord your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.” 22. For no such Passover had been kept since the days of the judges who judged Israel, or during all the days of the kings of Israel or of the kings of Judah. 23. But in the eighteenth year of King Josiah this Passover was kept to the Lord in Jerusalem. 24. Moreover, Josiah put away the mediums and the necromancers and the household gods and the idols and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might establish the words of the law that were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the Lord. 25. Before him there was no king like him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all the Law of Moses, nor did any like him arise after him. 26. Still the Lord did not turn from the burning of his great wrath, by which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him. 27. And the Lord said, “I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and I will cast off this city that I have chosen, Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.” Josiah’s Death in Battle 28. Now the rest of the acts of Josiah and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 29. In his days Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt went up to the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates. King Josiah went to meet him, and Pharaoh Neco killed him at Megiddo, as soon as he saw him. 30. And his servants carried him dead in a chariot from Megiddo and brought him to Jerusalem and buried him in his own tomb. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father’s place. Jehoahaz’s Reign and Captivity 31. Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. 32. And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his fathers had done. 33. And Pharaoh Neco put him in bonds at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem, and laid on the land a tribute of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold. 34. And Pharaoh Neco made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. But he took Jehoahaz away, and he came to Egypt and died there. 35. And Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh, but he taxed the land to give the money according to the command of Pharaoh. He exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, from everyone according to his assessment, to give it to Pharaoh Neco. Jehoiakim Reigns in Judah 36. Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah. 37. And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his fathers had done.

Entonces el rey mandó reunir con él a todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén.
Y subió el rey a la casa de Jehová con todos los varones de Judá, y con todos los moradores de Jerusalén, con los sacerdotes y profetas y con todo el pueblo, desde el más chico hasta el más grande; y leyó, oyéndolo ellos, todas las palabras del libro del pacto que había sido hallado en la casa de Jehová.
Y poniéndose el rey en pie junto a la columna, hizo pacto delante de Jehová, de que irían en pos de Jehová, y guardarían sus mandamientos, sus testimonios y sus estatutos, con todo el corazón y con toda el alma, y que cumplirían las palabras del pacto que estaban escritas en aquel libro. Y todo el pueblo confirmó el pacto.

Reformas de Josías
(2 Cr. 34.3-7)
Entonces mandó el rey al sumo sacerdote Hilcías, a los sacerdotes de segundo orden, y a los guardianes de la puerta, que sacasen del templo de Jehová todos los utensilios que habían sido hechos para Baal, para Asera y para todo el ejército de los cielos; y los quemó fuera de Jerusalén en el campo del Cedrón, e hizo llevar las cenizas de ellos a Bet-el.
Y quitó a los sacerdotes idólatras que habían puesto los reyes de Judá para que quemasen incienso en los lugares altos en las ciudades de Judá, y en los alrededores de Jerusalén; y asimismo a los que quemaban incienso a Baal, al sol y a la luna, y a los signos del zodíaco, y a todo el ejército de los cielos.
Hizo también sacar la imagen de Asera fuera de la casa de Jehová, fuera de Jerusalén, al valle del Cedrón, y la quemó en el valle del Cedrón, y la convirtió en polvo, y echó el polvo sobre los sepulcros de los hijos del pueblo.
Además derribó los lugares de prostitución idolátrica que estaban en la casa de Jehová, en los cuales tejían las mujeres tiendas para Asera.
E hizo venir todos los sacerdotes de las ciudades de Judá, y profanó los lugares altos donde los sacerdotes quemaban incienso, desde Geba hasta Beerseba; y derribó los altares de las puertas que estaban a la entrada de la puerta de Josué, gobernador de la ciudad, que estaban a la mano izquierda, a la puerta de la ciudad.
Pero los sacerdotes de los lugares altos no subían al altar de Jehová en Jerusalén, sino que comían panes sin levadura entre sus hermanos.
Asimismo profanó a Tofet, que está en el valle del hijo de Hinom, para que ninguno pasase su hijo o su hija por fuego a Moloc.
Quitó también los caballos que los reyes de Judá habían dedicado al sol a la entrada del templo de Jehová, junto a la cámara de Natán-melec eunuco, el cual tenía a su cargo los ejidos; y quemó al fuego los carros del sol.
Derribó además el rey los altares que estaban sobre la azotea de la sala de Acaz, que los reyes de Judá habían hecho, y los altares que había hecho Manasés en los dos atrios de la casa de Jehová; y de allí corrió y arrojó el polvo al arroyo del Cedrón.
Asimismo profanó el rey los lugares altos que estaban delante de Jerusalén, a la mano derecha del monte de la destrucción, los cuales Salomón rey de Israel había edificado a Astoret ídolo abominable de los sidonios, a Quemos ídolo abominable de Moab, y a Milcom ídolo abominable de los hijos de Amón.
Y quebró las estatuas, y derribó las imágenes de Asera, y llenó el lugar de ellos de huesos de hombres.
Igualmente el altar que estaba en Bet-el, y el lugar alto que había hecho Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel; aquel altar y el lugar alto destruyó, y lo quemó, y lo hizo polvo, y puso fuego a la imagen de Asera.
Y se volvió Josías, y viendo los sepulcros que estaban allí en el monte, envió y sacó los huesos de los sepulcros, y los quemó sobre el altar para contaminarlo, conforme a la palabra de Jehová que había profetizado el varón de Dios, el cual había anunciado esto.
Después dijo: ¿Qué monumento es este que veo? Y los de la ciudad le respondieron: Este es el sepulcro del varón de Dios que vino de Judá, y profetizó estas cosas que tú has hecho sobre el altar de Bet-el.
Y él dijo: Dejadlo; ninguno mueva sus huesos; y así fueron preservados sus huesos, y los huesos del profeta que había venido de Samaria.
Y todas las casas de los lugares altos que estaban en las ciudades de Samaria, las cuales habían hecho los reyes de Israel para provocar a ira, las quitó también Josías, e hizo de ellas como había hecho en Bet-el.
Mató además sobre los altares a todos los sacerdotes de los lugares altos que allí estaban, y quemó sobre ellos huesos de hombres, y volvió a Jerusalén.

Josías celebra la pascua
(2 Cr. 35.1-19)
Entonces mandó el rey a todo el pueblo, diciendo: Haced la pascua a Jehová vuestro Dios, conforme a lo que está escrito en el libro de este pacto.
No había sido hecha tal pascua desde los tiempos en que los jueces gobernaban a Israel, ni en todos los tiempos de los reyes de Israel y de los reyes de Judá.
A los dieciocho años del rey Josías fue hecha aquella pascua a Jehová en Jerusalén.

Persiste la ira de Jehová contra Judá
Asimismo barrió Josías a los encantadores, adivinos y terafines, y todas las abominaciones que se veían en la tierra de Judá y en Jerusalén, para cumplir las palabras de la ley que estaban escritas en el libro que el sacerdote Hilcías había hallado en la casa de Jehová.
No hubo otro rey antes de él, que se convirtiese a Jehová de todo su corazón, de toda su alma y de todas sus fuerzas, conforme a toda la ley de Moisés; ni después de él nació otro igual.
Con todo eso, Jehová no desistió del ardor con que su gran ira se había encendido contra Judá, por todas las provocaciones con que Manasés le había irritado.
Y dijo Jehová: También quitaré de mi presencia a Judá, como quité a Israel, y desecharé a esta ciudad que había escogido, a Jerusalén, y a la casa de la cual había yo dicho: Mi nombre estará allí.

Muerte de Josías
(2 Cr. 35.20-27)
Los demás hechos de Josías, y todo lo que hizo, ¿no está todo escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?
En aquellos días Faraón Necao rey de Egipto subió contra el rey de Asiria al río Éufrates, y salió contra él el rey Josías; pero aquel, así que le vio, lo mató en Meguido.
Y sus siervos lo pusieron en un carro, y lo trajeron muerto de Meguido a Jerusalén, y lo sepultaron en su sepulcro. Entonces el pueblo de la tierra tomó a Joacaz hijo de Josías, y lo ungieron y lo pusieron por rey en lugar de su padre.
