제 3 장

솔로몬이 지혜를 구하다(대하 1:3-12)

1 솔로몬이 애굽의 왕 바로와 더불어 혼인 관계를 맺어 그의 딸을 맞이하고 다윗 성에 데려다가 두고 자기의 왕궁과 여호와의 성전과 예루살렘 주위의 성의 공사가 끝나기를 기다리니라

2 그 때까지 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 아직 건축하지 아니하였으므로 백성들이 1)산당에서 제사하며

3 솔로몬이 여호와를 사랑하고 그의 아버지 다윗의 법도를 행하였으나 산당에서 제사하며 분향하더라

4 이에 왕이 제사하러 기브온으로 가니 거기는 산당이 큼이라 솔로몬이 그 제단에 일천 번제를 드렸더니

5 기브온에서 밤에 여호와께서 솔로몬의 꿈에 나타나시니라 하나님이 이르시되 내가 네게 무엇을 줄꼬 너는 구하라

6 솔로몬이 이르되 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗이 성실과 공의와 정직한 마음으로 주와 함께 주 앞에서 행하므로 주께서 그에게 큰 은혜를 베푸셨고 주께서 또 그를 위하여 이 큰 은혜를 항상 주사 오늘과 같이 그의 자리에 앉을 아들을 그에게 주셨나이다

7 나의 하나님 여호와여 주께서 종으로 종의 아버지 다윗을 대신하여 왕이 되게 하셨사오나 종은 작은 아이라 출입할 줄을 알지 못하고

8 주께서 택하신 백성 가운데 있나이다 그들은 큰 백성이라 수효가 많아서 셀 수도 없고 기록할 수도 없사오니

9 누가 주의 이 많은 백성을 재판할 수 있사오리이까 듣는 마음을 종에게 주사 주의 백성을 재판하여 선악을 분별하게 하옵소서

10 솔로몬이 이것을 구하매 그 말씀이 주의 마음에 든지라

11 이에 하나님이 그에게 이르시되 네가 이것을 구하도다 자기를 위하여 장수하기를 구하지 아니하며 부도 구하지 아니하며 자기 원수의 생명을 멸하기도 구하지 아니하고 오직 송사를 듣고 분별하는 지혜를 구하였으니

12 내가 네 말대로 하여 네게 지혜롭고 총명한 마음을 주노니 네 앞에도 너와 같은 자가 없었거니와 네 뒤에도 너와 같은 자가 일어남이 없으리라

13 내가 또 네가 구하지 아니한 부귀와 영광도 네게 주노니 네 평생에 왕들 중에 너와 같은 자가 없을 것이라

14 네가 만일 네 아버지 다윗이 행함 같이 내 길로 행하며 내 법도와 명령을 지키면 내가 또 네 날을 길게 하리라

15 솔로몬이 깨어 보니 꿈이더라 이에 예루살렘에 이르러 여호와의 언약궤 앞에 서서 번제와 감사의 제물을 드리고 모든 신하들을 위하여 잔치하였더라

솔로몬의 재판

16 그 때에 창기 두 여자가 왕에게 와서 그 앞에 서며

17 한 여자는 말하되 내 주여 나와 이 여자가 한집에서 사는데 내가 그와 함께 집에 있으며 해산하였더니

18 내가 해산한 지 사흘 만에 이 여자도 해산하고 우리가 함께 있었고 우리 둘 외에는 집에 다른 사람이 없었나이다

19 그런데 밤에 저 여자가 그의 아들 위에 누우므로 그의 아들이 죽으니

20 그가 밤중에 일어나서 이 여종 내가 잠든 사이에 내 아들을 내 곁에서 가져다가 자기의 품에 누이고 자기의 죽은 아들을 내 품에 뉘었나이다

21 아침에 내가 내 아들을 젖 먹이려고 일어나 본즉 죽었기로 내가 아침에 자세히 보니 내가 낳은 아들이 아니더이다 하매

22 다른 여자는 이르되 아니라 산 것은 내 아들이요 죽은 것은 네 아들이라 하고 이 여자는 이르되 아니라 죽은 것이 네 아들이요 산 것이 내 아들이라 하며 왕 앞에서 그와 같이 쟁론하는지라

23 왕이 이르되 이 여자는 말하기를 산 것은 내 아들이요 죽은 것은 네 아들이라 하고 저 여자는 말하기를 아니라 죽은 것이 네 아들이요 산 것이 내 아들이라 하는도다 하고

24 또 이르되 칼을 내게로 가져오라 하니 칼을 왕 앞으로 가져온지라

25 왕이 이르되 산 아이를 둘로 나누어 반은 이 여자에게 주고 반은 저 여자에게 주라

26 그 산 아들의 어머니 되는 여자가 그 아들을 위하여 마음이 불붙는 것 같아서 왕께 아뢰어 청하건대 내 주여 산 아이를 그에게 주시고 아무쪼록 죽이지 마옵소서 하되 다른 여자는 말하기를 내 것도 되게 말고 네 것도 되게 말고 나누게 하라 하는지라

27 왕이 대답하여 이르되 산 아이를 저 여자에게 주고 결코 죽이지 말라 저가 그의 어머니이니라 하매

28 온 이스라엘이 왕이 심리하여 판결함을 듣고 왕을 두려워하였으니 이는 하나님의 지혜가 그의 속에 있어 판결함을 봄이더라

Salomón hizo parentesco con Faraón rey de Egipto, pues tomó la hija de Faraón, y la trajo a la ciudad de David, entre tanto que acababa de edificar su casa, y la casa de Jehová, y los muros de Jerusalén alrededor. 2. Hasta entonces el pueblo sacrificaba en los lugares altos; porque no había casa edificada al nombre de Jehová hasta aquellos tiempos. Salomón pide sabiduría (2 Cr. 1.1-13) 3. Mas Salomón amó a Jehová, andando en los estatutos de su padre David; solamente sacrificaba y quemaba incienso en los lugares altos. 4. E iba el rey a Gabaón, porque aquel era el lugar alto principal, y sacrificaba allí; mil holocaustos sacrificaba Salomón sobre aquel altar. 5. Y se le apareció Jehová a Salomón en Gabaón una noche en sueños, y le dijo Dios: Pide lo que quieras que yo te dé. 6. Y Salomón dijo: Tú hiciste gran misericordia a tu siervo David mi padre, porque él anduvo delante de ti en verdad, en justicia, y con rectitud de corazón para contigo; y tú le has reservado esta tu gran misericordia, en que le diste hijo que se sentase en su trono, como sucede en este día. 7. Ahora pues, Jehová Dios mío, tú me has puesto a mí tu siervo por rey en lugar de David mi padre; y yo soy joven, y no sé cómo entrar ni salir. 8. Y tu siervo está en medio de tu pueblo al cual tú escogiste; un pueblo grande, que no se puede contar ni numerar por su multitud. 9. Da, pues, a tu siervo corazón entendido para juzgar a tu pueblo, y para discernir entre lo bueno y lo malo; porque ¿quién podrá gobernar este tu pueblo tan grande? 10. Y agradó delante del Señor que Salomón pidiese esto. 11. Y le dijo Dios: Porque has demandado esto, y no pediste para ti muchos días, ni pediste para ti riquezas, ni pediste la vida de tus enemigos, sino que demandaste para ti inteligencia para oír juicio, 12. he aquí lo he hecho conforme a tus palabras; he aquí que te he dado corazón sabio y entendido, tanto que no ha habido antes de ti otro como tú, ni después de ti se levantará otro como tú. 13. Y aun también te he dado las cosas que no pediste, riquezas y gloria, de tal manera que entre los reyes ninguno haya como tú en todos tus días. 14. Y si anduvieres en mis caminos, guardando mis estatutos y mis mandamientos, como anduvo David tu padre, yo alargaré tus días. 15. Cuando Salomón despertó, vio que era sueño; y vino a Jerusalén, y se presentó delante del arca del pacto de Jehová, y sacrificó holocaustos y ofreció sacrificios de paz, e hizo también banquete a todos sus siervos. Sabiduría y prosperidad de Salomón 16. En aquel tiempo vinieron al rey dos mujeres rameras, y se presentaron delante de él. 17. Y dijo una de ellas: ¡Ah, señor mío! Yo y esta mujer morábamos en una misma casa, y yo di a luz estando con ella en la casa. 18. Aconteció al tercer día después de dar yo a luz, que esta dio a luz también, y morábamos nosotras juntas; ninguno de fuera estaba en casa, sino nosotras dos en la casa. 19. Y una noche el hijo de esta mujer murió, porque ella se acostó sobre él. 20. Y se levantó a medianoche y tomó a mi hijo de junto a mí, estando yo tu sierva durmiendo, y lo puso a su lado, y puso al lado mío su hijo muerto. 21. Y cuando yo me levanté de madrugada para dar el pecho a mi hijo, he aquí que estaba muerto; pero lo observé por la mañana, y vi que no era mi hijo, el que yo había dado a luz. 22. Entonces la otra mujer dijo: No; mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto. Y la otra volvió a decir: No; tu hijo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive. Así hablaban delante del rey. 23. El rey entonces dijo: Esta dice: Mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto; y la otra dice: No, mas el tuyo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive. 24. Y dijo el rey: Traedme una espada. Y trajeron al rey una espada. 25. En seguida el rey dijo: Partid por medio al niño vivo, y dad la mitad a la una, y la otra mitad a la otra. 26. Entonces la mujer de quien era el hijo vivo, habló al rey (porque sus entrañas se le conmovieron por su hijo), y dijo: ¡Ah, señor mío! dad a esta el niño vivo, y no lo matéis. Mas la otra dijo: Ni a mí ni a ti; partidlo. 27. Entonces el rey respondió y dijo: Dad a aquella el hijo vivo, y no lo matéis; ella es su madre. 28. Y todo Israel oyó aquel juicio que había dado el rey; y temieron al rey, porque vieron que había en él sabiduría de Dios para juzgar. 1 #Kings 3 Solomon’s Prayer for Wisdom 1. Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into the city of David until he had finished building his own house and the house of the Lord and the wall around Jerusalem. 2. The people were sacrificing at the high places, however, because no house had yet been built for the name of the Lord. 3. Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father, only he sacrificed and made offerings at the high places. 4. And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon used to offer a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. 5. At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.” 6. And Solomon said, “You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you. And you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day. 7. And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in. 8. And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude. 9. Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?” 10. It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. 11. And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, 12. behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you. 13. I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days. 14. And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.” 15. and Solomon awoke, and behold, it was a dream. Then he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered up burnt offerings and peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants. Solomon’s Wisdom 16. Then two prostitutes came to the king and stood before him. 17. The one woman said, “Oh, my lord, this woman and I live in the same house, and I gave birth to a child while she was in the house. 18. Then on the third day after I gave birth, this woman also gave birth. And we were alone. There was no one else with us in the house; only we two were in the house. 19. And this woman’s son died in the night, because she lay on him. 20. And she arose at midnight and took my son from beside me, while your servant slept, and laid him at her breast, and laid her dead son at my breast. 21. When I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, he was dead. But when I looked at him closely in the morning, behold, he was not the child that I had borne.” 22. But the other woman said, “No, the living child is mine, and the dead child is yours.” The first said, “No, the dead child is yours, and the living child is mine.” Thus they spoke before the king. 23. Then the king said, “The one says, ‘This is my son that is alive, and your son is dead’; and the other says, ‘No; but your son is dead, and my son is the living one.’” 24. And the king said, “Bring me a sword.” So a sword was brought before the king. 25. And the king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one and half to the other.” 26. Then the woman whose son was alive said to the king, because her heart yearned for her son, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and by no means put him to death.” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours; divide him.” 27. Then the king answered and said, “Give the living child to the first woman, and by no means put him to death; she is his mother.” 28. And all Israel heard of the judgment that the king had rendered, and they stood in awe of the king, because they perceived that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.

Solomon’s Prayer for Wisdom

Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into the city of David until he had finished building his own house and the house of the Lord and the wall around Jerusalem.
The people were sacrificing at the high places, however, because no house had yet been built for the name of the Lord.
Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father, only he sacrificed and made offerings at the high places.
And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon used to offer a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.
At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.”
And Solomon said, “You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you. And you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day.
And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in.
And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude.
Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”
It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this.
And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right,
behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you.
I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days.
And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”
and Solomon awoke, and behold, it was a dream. Then he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered up burnt offerings and peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.

Solomon’s Wisdom
Then two prostitutes came to the king and stood before him.
The one woman said, “Oh, my lord, this woman and I live in the same house, and I gave birth to a child while she was in the house.
Then on the third day after I gave birth, this woman also gave birth. And we were alone. There was no one else with us in the house; only we two were in the house.
And this woman’s son died in the night, because she lay on him.
And she arose at midnight and took my son from beside me, while your servant slept, and laid him at her breast, and laid her dead son at my breast.
When I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, he was dead. But when I looked at him closely in the morning, behold, he was not the child that I had borne.”
But the other woman said, “No, the living child is mine, and the dead child is yours.” The first said, “No, the dead child is yours, and the living child is mine.” Thus they spoke before the king.
Then the king said, “The one says, ‘This is my son that is alive, and your son is dead’; and the other says, ‘No; but your son is dead, and my son is the living one.’”
And the king said, “Bring me a sword.” So a sword was brought before the king.
And the king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one and half to the other.”
Then the woman whose son was alive said to the king, because her heart yearned for her son, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and by no means put him to death.” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours; divide him.”
Then the king answered and said, “Give the living child to the first woman, and by no means put him to death; she is his mother.”
And all Israel heard of the judgment that the king had rendered, and they stood in awe of the king, because they perceived that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.
