제 24 장

유다 왕 요아스(왕하 12:1-16)

1   요아스가 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 칠 세라 예루살렘에서 사십 년 동안 다스리니라 그의 어머니의 이름은 시비아요 브엘세바 사람이더라

2   제사장 여호야다가 세상에 사는 모든 날에 요아스가 여호와 보시기에 정직하게 행하였으며

3   여호야다가 그를 두 아내에게 장가들게 하였더니 자녀를 낳았더라

4   그 후에 요아스가 여호와의 전을 보수할 뜻을 두고

5   제사장들과 레위 사람들을 모으고 그들에게 이르되 너희는 유다 여러 성읍에 가서 모든 이스라엘에게 해마다 너희의 하나님의 전을 수리할 돈을 거두되 그 일을 빨리 하라 하였으나 레위 사람이 빨리 하지 아니한지라

6   왕이 대제사장 여호야다를 불러 이르되 네가 어찌하여 레위 사람들을 시켜서 여호와의 종 모세와 이스라엘의 회중이 성막을 위하여 정한 세를 유다와 예루살렘에서 거두게 하지 아니하였느냐 하니

7   이는 그 악한 여인 아달랴의 아들들이 하나님의 전을 파괴하고 또 여호와의 전의 모든 성물들을 바알들을 위하여 사용하였음이었더라

8   이에 왕이 말하여 한 궤를 만들어 여호와의 전 문 밖에 두게 하고

9   유다와 예루살렘에 공포하여 하나님의 종 모세가 광야에서 이스라엘에게 정한 세를 여호와께 드리라 하였더니

10   모든 방백들과 백성들이 기뻐하여 마치기까지 돈을 가져다가 궤에 던지니라

11   레위 사람들이 언제든지 궤를 메고 왕의 관리에게 가지고 가서 돈이 많은 것을 보이면 왕의 서기관과 대제사장에게 속한 관원이 와서 그 궤를 쏟고 다시 그 곳에 가져다 두었더라 때때로 이렇게 하여 돈을 많이 거두매

12   왕과 여호야다가 그 돈을 여호와의 전 감독자에게 주어 석수와 목수를 고용하여 여호와의 전을 보수하며 또 철공과 놋쇠공을 고용하여 여호와의 전을 수리하게 하였더니

13   기술자들이 맡아서 수리하는 공사가 점점 진척되므로 하나님의 전을 이전 모양대로 견고하게 하니라

14   공사를 마친 후에 그 남은 돈을 왕과 여호야다 앞으로 가져왔으므로 그것으로 여호와의 전에 쓸 그릇을 만들었으니 곧 섬겨 제사 드리는 그릇이며 또 숟가락과 금은 그릇들이라 여호야다가 세상에 사는 모든 날에 여호와의 전에 항상 번제를 드렸더라

여호야다의 정책이 뒤집히다

15   여호야다가 나이가 많고 늙어서 죽으니 죽을 때에 백삼십 세라

16   무리가 다윗 성 여러 왕의 묘실 중에 장사하였으니 이는 그가 이스라엘과 하나님과 그의 성전에 대하여 선을 행하였음이더라

17   여호야다가 죽은 후에 유다 방백들이 와서 왕에게 절하매 왕이 그들의 말을 듣고

18   그의 조상들의 하나님 여호와의 전을 버리고 아세라 목상과 우상을 섬겼으므로 그 죄로 말미암아 진노가 유다와 예루살렘에 임하니라

19   그러나 여호와께서 그들에게 선지자를 보내사 다시 여호와에게로 돌아오게 하려 하시매 선지자들이 그들에게 경고하였으나 듣지 아니하니라

20   이에 하나님의 영이 제사장 여호야다의 아들 스가랴를 감동시키시매 그가 백성 앞에 높이 서서 그들에게 이르되 하나님이 이같이 말씀하시기를 너희가 어찌하여 여호와의 명령을 거역하여 스스로 형통하지 못하게 하느냐 하셨나니 너희가 여호와를 버렸으므로 여호와께서도 너희를 버리셨느니라 하나

21   무리가 함께 꾀하고 왕의 명령을 따라 그를 여호와의 전 뜰 안에서 돌로 쳐죽였더라

22   요아스 왕이 이와 같이 스가랴의 아버지 여호야다가 베푼 은혜를 기억하지 아니하고 그의 아들을 죽이니 그가 죽을 때에 이르되 여호와는 감찰하시고 신원하여 주옵소서 하니라

요아스가 죽다

23   일 주년 말에 아람 군대가 요아스를 치려고 올라와서 유다와 예루살렘에 이르러 백성 중에서 모든 방백들을 다 죽이고 노략한 물건을 다메섹 왕에게로 보내니라

24   아람 군대가 적은 무리로 왔으나 여호와께서 심히 큰 군대를 그들의 손에 넘기셨으니 이는 유다 사람들이 그들의 조상들의 하나님 여호와를 버렸음이라 이와 같이 아람 사람들이 요아스를 징벌하였더라

25   요아스가 크게 부상하매 적군이 그를 버리고 간 후에 그의 신하들이 제사장 여호야다의 아들들의 피로 말미암아 반역하여 그를 그의 침상에서 쳐죽인지라 다윗 성에 장사하였으나 왕들의 묘실에는 장사하지 아니하였더라

26   반역한 자들은 암몬 여인 시므앗의 아들 사밧과 모압 여인 시므릿의 아들 여호사밧이더라

27   요아스의 아들들의 사적과 요아스가 중대한 경책을 받은 것과 하나님의 전을 보수한 사적은 다 열왕기 주석에 기록되니라 그의 아들 아마샤가 대신하여 왕이 되니라

Reinado de Joás de Judá

(2 R. 12.1-21)

1De siete años era Joás cuando comenzó a reinar, y cuarenta años reinó en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Sibia, de Beerseba. 2E hizo Joás lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová todos los días de Joiada el sacerdote. 3Y Joiada tomó para él dos mujeres; y engendró hijos e hijas.

4Después de esto, aconteció que Joás decidió restaurar la casa de Jehová. 5Y reunió a los sacerdotes y los levitas, y les dijo: Salid por las ciudades de Judá, y recoged dinero de todo Israel, para que cada año sea reparada la casa de vuestro Dios; y vosotros poned diligencia en el asunto. Pero los levitas no pusieron diligencia. 6Por lo cual el rey llamó al sumo sacerdote Joiada y le dijo: ¿Por qué no has procurado que los levitas traigan de Judá y de Jerusalén la ofrenda que Moisés siervo de Jehová impuso a la congregación de Israel para el tabernáculo del testimonio? 7Porque la impía Atalía y sus hijos habían destruido la casa de Dios, y además habían gastado en los ídolos todas las cosas consagradas de la casa de Jehová.

8Mandó, pues, el rey que hiciesen un arca, la cual pusieron fuera, a la puerta de la casa de Jehová; 9e hicieron pregonar en Judá y en Jerusalén, que trajesen a Jehová la ofrenda que Moisés siervo de Dios había impuesto a Israel en el desierto. 10Y todos los jefes y todo el pueblo se gozaron, y trajeron ofrendas, y las echaron en el arca hasta llenarla. 11Y cuando venía el tiempo para llevar el arca al secretario del rey por mano de los levitas, cuando veían que había mucho dinero, venía el escriba del rey, y el que estaba puesto por el sumo sacerdote, y llevaban el arca, y la vaciaban, y la volvían a su lugar. Así lo hacían de día en día, y recogían mucho dinero, 12y el rey y Joiada lo daban a los que hacían el trabajo del servicio de la casa de Jehová; y tomaban canteros y carpinteros que reparasen la casa de Jehová, y artífices en hierro y bronce para componer la casa. 13Hacían, pues, los artesanos la obra, y por sus manos la obra fue restaurada, y restituyeron la casa de Dios a su antigua condición, y la consolidaron. 14Y cuando terminaron, trajeron al rey y a Joiada lo que quedaba del dinero, e hicieron de él utensilios para la casa de Jehová, utensilios para el servicio, morteros, cucharas, vasos de oro y de plata. Y sacrificaban holocaustos continuamente en la casa de Jehová todos los días de Joiada.

15Mas Joiada envejeció, y murió lleno de días; de ciento treinta años era cuando murió. 16Y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David con los reyes, por cuanto había hecho bien con Israel, y para con Dios, y con su casa.

17Muerto Joiada, vinieron los príncipes de Judá y ofrecieron obediencia al rey; y el rey los oyó. 18Y desampararon la casa de Jehová el Dios de sus padres, y sirvieron a los símbolos de Asera y a las imágenes esculpidas. Entonces la ira de Dios vino sobre Judá y Jerusalén por este su pecado. 19Y les envió profetas para que los volviesen a Jehová, los cuales les amonestaron; mas ellos no los escucharon.

20Entonces el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre Zacarías hijo del sacerdote Joiada; y puesto en pie, donde estaba más alto que el pueblo, les dijo: Así ha dicho Dios: ¿Por qué quebrantáis los mandamientos de Jehová? No os vendrá bien por ello; porque por haber dejado a Jehová, él también os abandonará. 21Pero ellos hicieron conspiración contra él, y por mandato del rey lo apedrearon hasta matarlo, en el patio de la casa de Jehová. 22Así el rey Joás no se acordó de la misericordia que Joiada padre de Zacarías había hecho con él, antes mató a su hijo, quien dijo al morir: Jehová lo vea y lo demande.

23A la vuelta del año subió contra él el ejército de Siria; y vinieron a Judá y a Jerusalén, y destruyeron en el pueblo a todos los principales de él, y enviaron todo el botín al rey a Damasco. 24Porque aunque el ejército de Siria había venido con poca gente, Jehová entregó en sus manos un ejército muy numeroso, por cuanto habían dejado a Jehová el Dios de sus padres. Así ejecutaron juicios contra Joás.

25Y cuando se fueron los sirios, lo dejaron agobiado por sus dolencias; y conspiraron contra él sus siervos a causa de la sangre de los hijos de Joiada el sacerdote, y lo hirieron en su cama, y murió. Y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David, pero no en los sepulcros de los reyes. 26Los que conspiraron contra él fueron Zabad hijo de Simeat amonita, y Jozabad hijo de Simrit moabita. 27En cuanto a los hijos de Joás, y la multiplicación que hizo de las rentas, y la restauración de la casa de Jehová, he aquí está escrito en la historia del libro de los reyes. Y reinó en su lugar Amasías su hijo.

Joash Repairs the Temple

1 Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba. 2And Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest. 3Jehoiada got for him two wives, and he had sons and daughters.

4After this Joash decided to restore the house of the Lord. 5And he gathered the priests and the Levites and said to them, “Go out to the cities of Judah and gather from all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that you act quickly.” But the Levites did not act quickly. 6So the king summoned Jehoiada the chief and said to him, “Why have you not required the Levites to bring in from Judah and Jerusalem the tax levied by Moses, the servant of the Lord, and the congregation of Israel for the tent of testimony?” 7For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken into the house of God, and had also used all the dedicated things of the house of the Lord for the Baals.

8So the king commanded, and they made a chest and set it outside the gate of the house of the Lord. 9And proclamation was made throughout Judah and Jerusalem to bring in for the Lord the tax that Moses the servant of God laid on Israel in the wilderness. 10And all the princes and all the people rejoiced and brought their tax and dropped it into the chest until they had finished. 11And whenever the chest was brought to the king’s officers by the Levites, when they saw that there was much money in it, the king’s secretary and the officer of the chief priest would come and empty the chest and take it and return it to its place. Thus they did day after day, and collected money in abundance. 12And the king and Jehoiada gave it to those who had charge of the work of the house of the Lord, and they hired masons and carpenters to restore the house of the Lord, and also workers in iron and bronze to repair the house of the Lord. 13So those who were engaged in the work labored, and the repairing went forward in their hands, and they restored the house of God to its proper condition and strengthened it. 14And when they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, and with it were made utensils for the house of the Lord, both for the service and for the burnt offerings, and dishes for incense and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the Lord regularly all the days of Jehoiada.

15But Jehoiada grew old and full of days, and died. He was 130 years old at his death. 16And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and his house.

17Now after the death of Jehoiada the princes of Judah came and paid homage to the king. Then the king listened to them. 18And they abandoned the house of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols. And wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs. 19Yet he sent prophets among them to bring them back to the Lord. These testified against them, but they would not pay attention.

Joash’s Treachery

20 Then the Spirit of God clothed Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stood above the people, and said to them, “Thus says God, ‘Why do you break the commandments of the Lord, so that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the Lord, he has forsaken you.’” 21But they conspired against him, and by command of the king they stoned him with stones in the court of the house of the Lord. 22Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness that Jehoiada, Zechariah’s father, had shown him, but killed his son. And when he was dying, he said, “May the Lord see and avenge!”

Joash Assassinated

23At the end of the year the army of the Syrians came up against Joash. They came to Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people and sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus. 24Though the army of the Syrians had come with few men, the Lord delivered into their hand a very great army, because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers. Thus they executed judgment on Joash.

25When they had departed from him, leaving him severely wounded, his servants conspired against him because of the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed. So he died, and they buried him in the city of David, but they did not bury him in the tombs of the kings. 26Those who conspired against him were Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonite, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabite. 27Accounts of his sons and of the many oracles against him and of the rebuilding of the house of God are written in the Story of the Book of the Kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his place.
