제 32 장

앗수르 군대가 예루살렘을 위협하다(왕하 18:13-37; 19:14-19, 35-37; 사 36:1-22; 37:8-38)

1   이 모든 충성된 일을 한 후에 앗수르 왕 산헤립이 유다에 들어와서 견고한 성읍들을 향하여 진을 치고 쳐서 점령하고자 한지라

2   히스기야가 산헤립이 예루살렘을 치러 온 것을 보고

3   그의 방백들과 용사들과 더불어 의논하고 성 밖의 모든 물 근원을 막고자 하매 그들이 돕더라

4   이에 백성이 많이 모여 모든 물 근원과 땅으로 흘러가는 시내를 막고 이르되 어찌 앗수르 왕들이 와서 많은 물을 얻게 하리요 하고

5   히스기야가 힘을 내어 무너진 모든 성벽을 보수하되 망대까지 높이 쌓고 또 외성을 쌓고 다윗 성의 밀로를 견고하게 하고 무기와 방패를 많이 만들고

6   군대 지휘관들을 세워 백성을 거느리게 하고 성문 광장에서 자기 앞에 무리를 모으고 말로 위로하여 이르되

7   너희는 마음을 강하게 하며 담대히 하고 앗수르 왕과 그를 따르는 온 무리로 말미암아 두려워하지 말며 놀라지 말라 우리와 함께 하시는 이가 그와 함께 하는 자보다 크니

8   그와 함께 하는 자는 육신의 팔이요 우리와 함께 하시는 이는 우리의 하나님 여호와시라 반드시 우리를 도우시고 우리를 대신하여 싸우시리라 하매 백성이 유다 왕 히스기야의 말로 말미암아 안심하니라

9   그 후에 앗수르 왕 산헤립이 그의 온 군대를 거느리고 라기스를 치며 그의 신하들을 예루살렘에 보내어 유다 왕 히스기야와 예루살렘에 있는 유다 무리에게 말하여 이르기를

10   앗수르 왕 산헤립은 이같이 말하노라 너희가 예루살렘에 에워싸여 있으면서 무엇을 의뢰하느냐

11   히스기야가 너희를 꾀어 이르기를 우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리를 앗수르 왕의 손에서 건져내시리라 하거니와 이 어찌 너희를 주림과 목마름으로 죽게 함이 아니냐

12   이 히스기야가 여호와의 산당들과 제단들을 제거하여 버리고 유다와 예루살렘에 명령하여 이르기를 너희는 다만 한 제단 앞에서 예배하고 그 위에 분향하라 하지 아니하였느냐

13   나와 내 조상들이 이방 모든 백성들에게 행한 것을 너희가 알지 못하느냐 모든 나라의 신들이 능히 그들의 땅을 내 손에서 건져낼 수 있었느냐

14   내 조상들이 진멸한 모든 나라의 그 모든 신들 중에 누가 능히 그의 백성을 내 손에서 건져내었기에 너희 1)하나님이 능히 너희를 내 손에서 건지겠느냐

15   그런즉 이와 같이 너희는 히스기야에게 속지 말라 꾀임을 받지 말라 그를 믿지도 말라 어떤 백성이나 어떤 나라의 신도 능히 자기의 백성을 나의 손과 나의 조상들의 손에서 건져내지 못하였나니 하물며 너희 1)하나님이 너희를 내 손에서 건져내겠느냐 하였더라

16   산헤립의 신하들도 더욱 여호와 하나님과 그의 종 히스기야를 비방하였으며

17   산헤립이 또 편지를 써 보내어 이스라엘 하나님 여호와를 욕하고 비방하여 이르기를 모든 나라의 신들이 그들의 백성을 내 손에서 구원하여 내지 못한 것 같이 히스기야의 신들도 그의 백성을 내 손에서 구원하여 내지 못하리라 하고

18   산헤립의 신하가 유다 방언으로 크게 소리 질러 예루살렘 성 위에 있는 백성을 놀라게 하고 괴롭게 하여 그 성을 점령하려 하였는데

19   그들이 예루살렘의 하나님을 비방하기를 사람의 손으로 지은 세상 사람의 신들을 비방하듯 하였더라

20   이러므로 히스기야 왕이 아모스의 아들 선지자 이사야와 더불어 하늘을 향하여 부르짖어 기도하였더니

21   여호와께서 한 천사를 보내어 앗수르 왕의 진영에서 모든 큰 용사와 대장과 지휘관들을 멸하신지라 앗수르 왕이 낯이 뜨거워 그의 고국으로 돌아갔더니 그의 신의 전에 들어갔을 때에 그의 몸에서 난 자들이 거기서 칼로 죽였더라

22   이와 같이 여호와께서 히스기야와 예루살렘 주민을 앗수르 왕 산헤립의 손과 모든 적국의 손에서 구원하여 내사 사면으로 보호하시매

23   여러 사람이 예물을 가지고 예루살렘에 와서 여호와께 드리고 또 보물을 유다 왕 히스기야에게 드린지라 이 후부터 히스기야가 모든 나라의 눈에 존귀하게 되었더라

히스기야의 병과 교만(왕하 20:1-3, 12-19; 사 38:1-3; 39:1-8)

24   그 때에 히스기야가 병들어 죽게 되었으므로 여호와께 기도하매 여호와께서 그에게 대답하시고 또 이적을 보이셨으나

25   히스기야가 마음이 교만하여 그 받은 은혜를 보답하지 아니하므로 진노가 그와 유다와 예루살렘에 내리게 되었더니

26   히스기야가 마음의 교만함을 뉘우치고 예루살렘 주민들도 그와 같이 하였으므로 여호와의 진노가 히스기야의 생전에는 그들에게 내리지 아니하니라

히스기야의 부와 영광

27   히스기야가 부와 영광이 지극한지라 이에 은금과 보석과 향품과 방패와 온갖 보배로운 그릇들을 위하여 창고를 세우며

28   곡식과 새 포도주와 기름의 산물을 위하여 창고를 세우며 온갖 짐승의 외양간을 세우며 양 떼의 우리를 갖추며

29   양 떼와 많은 소 떼를 위하여 성읍들을 세웠으니 이는 하나님이 그에게 재산을 심히 많이 주셨음이며

30   이 히스기야가 또 기혼의 윗샘물을 막아 그 아래로부터 다윗 성 서쪽으로 곧게 끌어들였으니 히스기야가 그의 모든 일에 형통하였더라

31   그러나 바벨론 방백들이 히스기야에게 사신을 보내어 그 땅에서 나타난 이적을 물을 때에 하나님이 히스기야를 떠나시고 그의 심중에 있는 것을 다 알고자 하사 시험하셨더라

히스기야가 죽다(왕하 20:20-21)

32   히스기야의 남은 행적과 그의 모든 선한 일은 아모스의 아들 선지자 이사야의 묵시 책과 유다와 이스라엘 열왕기에 기록되니라

33   히스기야가 그의 조상들과 함께 누우매 온 유다와 예루살렘 주민이 그를 다윗 자손의 묘실 중 높은 곳에 장사하여 그의 죽음에 그에게 경의를 표하였더라 그의 아들 므낫세가 대신하여 왕이 되니라

Senaquerib invade a Judá

(2 R. 18.13-37; Is. 36.1-22)

1Después de estas cosas y de esta fidelidad, vino Senaquerib rey de los asirios e invadió a Judá, y acampó contra las ciudades fortificadas, con la intención de conquistarlas. 2Viendo, pues, Ezequías la venida de Senaquerib, y su intención de combatir a Jerusalén, 3tuvo consejo con sus príncipes y con sus hombres valientes, para cegar las fuentes de agua que estaban fuera de la ciudad; y ellos le apoyaron. 4Entonces se reunió mucho pueblo, y cegaron todas las fuentes, y el arroyo que corría a través del territorio, diciendo: ¿Por qué han de hallar los reyes de Asiria muchas aguas cuando vengan? 5Después con ánimo resuelto edificó Ezequías todos los muros caídos, e hizo alzar las torres, y otro muro por fuera; fortificó además a Milo en la ciudad de David, y también hizo muchas espadas y escudos. 6Y puso capitanes de guerra sobre el pueblo, y los hizo reunir en la plaza de la puerta de la ciudad, y habló al corazón de ellos, diciendo: 7Esforzaos y animaos; no temáis, ni tengáis miedo del rey de Asiria, ni de toda la multitud que con él viene; porque más hay con nosotros que con él. 8Con él está el brazo de carne, mas con nosotros está Jehová nuestro Dios para ayudarnos y pelear nuestras batallas. Y el pueblo tuvo confianza en las palabras de Ezequías rey de Judá.

9Después de esto, Senaquerib rey de los asirios, mientras sitiaba a Laquis con todas sus fuerzas, envió sus siervos a Jerusalén para decir a Ezequías rey de Judá, y a todos los de Judá que estaban en Jerusalén: 10Así ha dicho Senaquerib rey de los asirios: ¿En quién confiáis vosotros, al resistir el sitio en Jerusalén? 11¿No os engaña Ezequías para entregaros a muerte, a hambre y a sed, al decir: Jehová nuestro Dios nos librará de la mano del rey de Asiria? 12¿No es Ezequías el mismo que ha quitado sus lugares altos y sus altares, y ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalén: Delante de este solo altar adoraréis, y sobre él quemaréis incienso? 13¿No habéis sabido lo que yo y mis padres hemos hecho a todos los pueblos de la tierra? ¿Pudieron los dioses de las naciones de esas tierras librar su tierra de mi mano? 14¿Qué dios hubo de entre todos los dioses de aquellas naciones que destruyeron mis padres, que pudiese salvar a su pueblo de mis manos? ¿Cómo podrá vuestro Dios libraros de mi mano? 15Ahora, pues, no os engañe Ezequías, ni os persuada de ese modo, ni le creáis; que si ningún dios de todas aquellas naciones y reinos pudo librar a su pueblo de mis manos, y de las manos de mis padres, ¿cuánto menos vuestro Dios os podrá librar de mi mano?

16Y otras cosas más hablaron sus siervos contra Jehová Dios, y contra su siervo Ezequías. 17Además de esto escribió cartas en que blasfemaba contra Jehová el Dios de Israel, y hablaba contra él, diciendo: Como los dioses de las naciones de los países no pudieron librar a su pueblo de mis manos, tampoco el Dios de Ezequías librará al suyo de mis manos. 18Y clamaron a gran voz en judaico al pueblo de Jerusalén que estaba sobre los muros, para espantarles y atemorizarles, a fin de poder tomar la ciudad. 19Y hablaron contra el Dios de Jerusalén, como contra los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, que son obra de manos de hombres.

Jehová libra a Ezequías

(2 R. 19.1-37; Is. 37.1-38)

20Mas el rey Ezequías y el profeta Isaías hijo de Amoz oraron por esto, y clamaron al cielo. 21Y Jehová envió un ángel, el cual destruyó a todo valiente y esforzado, y a los jefes y capitanes en el campamento del rey de Asiria. Este se volvió, por tanto, avergonzado a su tierra; y entrando en el templo de su dios, allí lo mataron a espada sus propios hijos. 22Así salvó Jehová a Ezequías y a los moradores de Jerusalén de las manos de Senaquerib rey de Asiria, y de las manos de todos; y les dio reposo por todos lados. 23Y muchos trajeron a Jerusalén ofrenda a Jehová, y ricos presentes a Ezequías rey de Judá; y fue muy engrandecido delante de todas las naciones después de esto.

Enfermedad de Ezequías

(2 R. 20.1-11; Is. 38.1-22)

24En aquel tiempo Ezequías enfermó de muerte; y oró a Jehová, quien le respondió, y le dio una señal. 25Mas Ezequías no correspondió al bien que le había sido hecho, sino que se enalteció su corazón, y vino la ira contra él, y contra Judá y Jerusalén. 26Pero Ezequías, después de haberse enaltecido su corazón, se humilló, él y los moradores de Jerusalén; y no vino sobre ellos la ira de Jehová en los días de Ezequías.

Ezequías recibe a los enviados de Babilonia

(2 R. 20.12-19; Is. 39.1-8)

27Y tuvo Ezequías riquezas y gloria, muchas en gran manera; y adquirió tesoros de plata y oro, piedras preciosas, perfumes, escudos, y toda clase de joyas deseables. 28Asimismo hizo depósitos para las rentas del grano, del vino y del aceite, establos para toda clase de bestias, y apriscos para los ganados. 29Adquirió también ciudades, y hatos de ovejas y de vacas en gran abundancia; porque Dios le había dado muchas riquezas. 30Este Ezequías cubrió los manantiales de Gihón la de arriba, y condujo el agua hacia el occidente de la ciudad de David. Y fue prosperado Ezequías en todo lo que hizo. 31Mas en lo referente a los mensajeros de los príncipes de Babilonia, que enviaron a él para saber del prodigio que había acontecido en el país, Dios lo dejó, para probarle, para hacer conocer todo lo que estaba en su corazón.

Muerte de Ezequías

(2 R. 20.20-21)

32Los demás hechos de Ezequías, y sus misericordias, he aquí todos están escritos en la profecía del profeta Isaías hijo de Amoz, en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel. 33Y durmió Ezequías con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en el lugar más prominente de los sepulcros de los hijos de David, honrándole en su muerte todo Judá y toda Jerusalén; y reinó en su lugar Manasés su hijo.

Sennacherib Invades Judah

1 After these things and these acts of faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came and invaded Judah and encamped against the fortified cities, thinking to win them for himself. 2And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and intended to fight against Jerusalem, 3he planned with his officers and his mighty men to stop the water of the springs that were outside the city; and they helped him. 4A great many people were gathered, and they stopped all the springs and the brook that flowed through the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find much water?” 5He set to work resolutely and built up all the wall that was broken down and raised towers upon it, and outside it he built another wall, and he strengthened the Millo in the city of David. He also made weapons and shields in abundance. 6And he set combat commanders over the people and gathered them together to him in the square at the gate of the city and spoke encouragingly to them, saying, 7“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed before the king of Assyria and all the horde that is with him, for there are more with us than with him. 8With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

Sennacherib Blasphemes

9After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria, who was besieging Lachish with all his forces, sent his servants to Jerusalem to Hezekiah king of Judah and to all the people of Judah who were in Jerusalem, saying, 10“Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, ‘On what are you trusting, that you endure the siege in Jerusalem? 11Is not Hezekiah misleading you, that he may give you over to die by famine and by thirst, when he tells you, “The Lord our God will deliver us from the hand of the king of Assyria”? 12Has not this same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, “Before one altar you shall worship, and on it you shall burn your sacrifices”? 13Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of other lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands at all able to deliver their lands out of my hand? 14Who among all the gods of those nations that my fathers devoted to destruction was able to deliver his people from my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you from my hand? 15Now, therefore, do not let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you in this fashion, and do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand!’”

16And his servants said still more against the Lord God and against his servant Hezekiah. 17And he wrote letters to cast contempt on the Lord, the God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, “Like the gods of the nations of the lands who have not delivered their people from my hands, so the God of Hezekiah will not deliver his people from my hand.” 18And they shouted it with a loud voice in the language of Judah to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten and terrify them, in order that they might take the city. 19And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem as they spoke of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands.

The Lord Delivers Jerusalem

20Then Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed because of this and cried to heaven. 21And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword. 22So the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria and from the hand of all his enemies, and he provided for them on every side. 23And many brought gifts to the Lord to Jerusalem and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from that time onward.

Hezekiah’s Pride and Achievements

24 In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death, and he prayed to the Lord, and he answered him and gave him a sign. 25But Hezekiah did not make return according to the benefit done to him, for his heart was proud. Therefore wrath came upon him and Judah and Jerusalem. 26But Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

27And Hezekiah had very great riches and honor, and he made for himself treasuries for silver, for gold, for precious stones, for spices, for shields, and for all kinds of costly vessels; 28storehouses also for the yield of grain, wine, and oil; and stalls for all kinds of cattle, and sheepfolds. 29He likewise provided cities for himself, and flocks and herds in abundance, for God had given him very great possessions. 30This same Hezekiah closed the upper outlet of the waters of Gihon and directed them down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works. 31And so in the matter of the envoys of the princes of Babylon, who had been sent to him to inquire about the sign that had been done in the land, God left him to himself, in order to test him and to know all that was in his heart.

32Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel. 33And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the upper part of the tombs of the sons of David, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
