제 19 장

호렙 산의 엘리야

1 아합이 엘리야가 행한 모든 일과 그가 어떻게 모든 선지자를 칼로 죽였는지를 이세벨에게 말하니

2 이세벨이 사신을 엘리야에게 보내어 이르되 내가 내일 이맘때에는 반드시 네 생명을 저 사람들 중 한 사람의 생명과 같게 하리라 그렇게 하지 아니하면 신들이 내게 벌 위에 벌을 내림이 마땅하니라 한지라

3 그가 이 형편을 보고 일어나 자기의 생명을 위해 도망하여 유다에 속한 브엘세바에 이르러 자기의 사환을 그 곳에 머물게 하고

4 자기 자신은 광야로 들어가 하룻길쯤 가서 한 로뎀 나무 아래에 앉아서 자기가 죽기를 원하여 이르되 여호와여 넉넉하오니 지금 내 생명을 거두시옵소서 나는 내 조상들보다 낫지 못하니이다 하고

5 로뎀 나무 아래에 누워 자더니 천사가 그를 어루만지며 그에게 이르되 일어나서 먹으라 하는지라

6 본즉 머리맡에 숯불에 구운 떡과 한 병 물이 있더라 이에 먹고 마시고 다시 누웠더니

7 여호와의 천사가 또 다시 와서 어루만지며 이르되 일어나 먹으라 네가 갈 길을 다 가지 못할까 하노라 하는지라

8 이에 일어나 먹고 마시고 그 음식물의 힘을 의지하여 사십 주 사십 야를 가서 하나님의 산 호렙에 이르니라

9 엘리야가 그 곳 굴에 들어가 거기서 머물더니 여호와의 말씀이 그에게 임하여 이르시되 엘리야야 네가 어찌하여 여기 있느냐

10 그가 대답하되 내가 만군의 하나님 여호와께 열심이 유별하오니 이는 이스라엘 자손이 주의 언약을 버리고 주의 제단을 헐며 칼로 주의 선지자들을 죽였음이오며 오직 나만 남았거늘 그들이 내 생명을 찾아 빼앗으려 하나이다

11 여호와께서 이르시되 너는 나가서 여호와 앞에서 산에 서라 하시더니 여호와께서 지나가시는데 여호와 앞에 크고 강한 바람이 산을 가르고 바위를 부수나 바람 가운데에 여호와께서 계시지 아니하며 바람 후에 지진이 있으나 지진 가운데에도 여호와께서 계시지 아니하며

12 또 지진 후에 불이 있으나 불 가운데에도 여호와께서 계시지 아니하더니 불 후에 세미한 소리가 있는지라

13 엘리야가 듣고 겉옷으로 얼굴을 가리고 나가 굴 어귀에 서매 소리가 그에게 임하여 이르시되 엘리야야 네가 어찌하여 여기 있느냐

14 그가 대답하되 내가 만군의 하나님 여호와께 열심이 유별하오니 이는 이스라엘 자손이 주의 언약을 버리고 주의 제단을 헐며 칼로 주의 선지자들을 죽였음이오며 오직 나만 남았거늘 그들이 내 생명을 찾아 빼앗으려 하나이다

15 여호와께서 그에게 이르시되 너는 네 길을 돌이켜 광야를 통하여 다메섹에 가서 이르거든 하사엘에게 기름을 부어 아람의 왕이 되게 하고

16 너는 또 님시의 아들 예후에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘의 왕이 되게 하고 또 아벨므홀라 사밧의 아들 엘리사에게 기름을 부어 너를 대신하여 선지자가 되게 하라

17 하사엘의 칼을 피하는 자를 예후가 죽일 것이요 예후의 칼을 피하는 자를 엘리사가 죽이리라

18 그러나 내가 이스라엘 가운데에 칠천 명을 남기리니 다 바알에게 무릎을 꿇지 아니하고 다 바알에게 입맞추지 아니한 자니라

엘리야가 엘리사를 부르다

19 엘리야가 거기서 떠나 사밧의 아들 엘리사를 만나니 그가 열두 겨릿소를 앞세우고 밭을 가는데 자기는 열두째 겨릿소와 함께 있더라 엘리야가 그리로 건너가서 겉옷을 그의 위에 던졌더니

20 그가 소를 버리고 엘리야에게로 달려가서 이르되 청하건대 나를 내 부모와 입맞추게 하소서 그리한 후에 내가 당신을 따르리이다 엘리야가 그에게 이르되 돌아가라 내가 네게 어떻게 행하였느냐 하니라

21 엘리사가 그를 떠나 돌아가서 한 겨릿소를 가져다가 잡고 소의 기구를 불살라 그 고기를 삶아 백성에게 주어 먹게 하고 일어나 엘리야를 따르며 수종 들었더라

Acab dio a Jezabel la nueva de todo lo que Elías había hecho, y de cómo había matado a espada a todos los profetas. 2. Entonces envió Jezabel a Elías un mensajero, diciendo: Así me hagan los dioses, y aun me añadan, si mañana a estas horas yo no he puesto tu persona como la de uno de ellos. 3. Viendo, pues, el peligro, se levantó y se fue para salvar su vida, y vino a Beerseba, que está en Judá, y dejó allí a su criado. 4. Y él se fue por el desierto un día de camino, y vino y se sentó debajo de un enebro; y deseando morirse, dijo: Basta ya, oh Jehová, quítame la vida, pues no soy yo mejor que mis padres. 5. Y echándose debajo del enebro, se quedó dormido; y he aquí luego un ángel le tocó, y le dijo: Levántate, come. 6. Entonces él miró, y he aquí a su cabecera una torta cocida sobre las ascuas, y una vasija de agua; y comió y bebió, y volvió a dormirse. 7. Y volviendo el ángel de Jehová la segunda vez, lo tocó, diciendo: Levántate y come, porque largo camino te resta. 8. Se levantó, pues, y comió y bebió; y fortalecido con aquella comida caminó cuarenta días y cuarenta noches hasta Horeb, el monte de Dios. 9. Y allí se metió en una cueva, donde pasó la noche. Y vino a él palabra de Jehová, el cual le dijo: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías? 10. Él respondió: He sentido un vivo celo por Jehová Dios de los ejércitos; porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares, y han matado a espada a tus profetas; y sólo yo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida. 11. Él le dijo: Sal fuera, y ponte en el monte delante de Jehová. Y he aquí Jehová que pasaba, y un grande y poderoso viento que rompía los montes, y quebraba las peñas delante de Jehová; pero Jehová no estaba en el viento. Y tras el viento un terremoto; pero Jehová no estaba en el terremoto. 12. Y tras el terremoto un fuego; pero Jehová no estaba en el fuego. Y tras el fuego un silbo apacible y delicado. 13. Y cuando lo oyó Elías, cubrió su rostro con su manto, y salió, y se puso a la puerta de la cueva. Y he aquí vino a él una voz, diciendo: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías? 14. Él respondió: He sentido un vivo celo por Jehová Dios de los ejércitos; porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares, y han matado a espada a tus profetas; y sólo yo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida. 15. Y le dijo Jehová: Ve, vuélvete por tu camino, por el desierto de Damasco; y llegarás, y ungirás a Hazael por rey de Siria. 16. A Jehú hijo de Nimsi ungirás por rey sobre Israel; y a Eliseo hijo de Safat, de Abel-mehola, ungirás para que sea profeta en tu lugar. 17. Y el que escapare de la espada de Hazael, Jehú lo matará; y el que escapare de la espada de Jehú, Eliseo lo matará. 18. Y yo haré que queden en Israel siete mil, cuyas rodillas no se doblaron ante Baal, y cuyas bocas no lo besaron. Llamamiento de Eliseo 19. Partiendo él de allí, halló a Eliseo hijo de Safat, que araba con doce yuntas delante de sí, y él tenía la última. Y pasando Elías por delante de él, echó sobre él su manto. 20. Entonces dejando él los bueyes, vino corriendo en pos de Elías, y dijo: Te ruego que me dejes besar a mi padre y a mi madre, y luego te seguiré. Y él le dijo: Ve, vuelve; ¿qué te he hecho yo? 21. Y se volvió, y tomó un par de bueyes y los mató, y con el arado de los bueyes coció la carne, y la dio al pueblo para que comiesen. Después se levantó y fue tras Elías, y le servía. 1 #Kings 19 Elijah Flees Jezebel 1. Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.” 3. Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. 4. But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.” 5. And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, “Arise and eat.” 6. And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again. 7. And the angel of the Lord came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.” 8. And he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mount of God. The Lord Speaks to Elijah 9. There he came to a cave and lodged in it. And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 10. He said, “I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.” 11. And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. 13. And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 14. He said, “I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.” 15. And the Lord said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus. And when you arrive, you shall anoint Hazael to be king over Syria. 16. And Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint to be king over Israel, and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint to be prophet in your place. 17. And the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael shall Jehu put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha put to death. 18. Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.” The Call of Elisha 19. So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast his cloak upon him. 20. And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?” 21. And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him.

Elías huye a Horeb

Acab dio a Jezabel la nueva de todo lo que Elías había hecho, y de cómo había matado a espada a todos los profetas.
Entonces envió Jezabel a Elías un mensajero, diciendo: Así me hagan los dioses, y aun me añadan, si mañana a estas horas yo no he puesto tu persona como la de uno de ellos.
Viendo, pues, el peligro, se levantó y se fue para salvar su vida, y vino a Beerseba, que está en Judá, y dejó allí a su criado.

Llamamiento de Eliseo
Partiendo él de allí, halló a Eliseo hijo de Safat, que araba con doce yuntas delante de sí, y él tenía la última. Y pasando Elías por delante de él, echó sobre él su manto.

Elijah Flees Jezebel

Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.
Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.”
Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.
But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”
And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, “Arise and eat.”
And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again.

The Call of Elisha

And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?”
And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him.
