제 8 장

언약궤를 성전으로 옮기다(대하 5:2-6:2)

1 이에 솔로몬이 여호와의 언약궤를 다윗 성 곧 시온에서 메어 올리고자 하여 이스라엘 장로와 모든 지파의 우두머리 곧 이스라엘 자손의 족장들을 예루살렘에 있는 자기에게로 소집하니

2 이스라엘 모든 사람이 다 에다님월 곧 일곱째 달 절기에 솔로몬 왕에게 모이고

3 이스라엘 장로들이 다 이르매 제사장들이 궤를 메니라

4 여호와의 궤와 회막과 성막 안의 모든 거룩한 기구들을 메고 올라가되 제사장과 레위 사람이 그것들을 메고 올라가매

5 솔로몬 왕과 그 앞에 모인 이스라엘 회중이 그와 함께 그 궤 앞에 있어 양과 소로 제사를 지냈으니 그 수가 많아 기록할 수도 없고 셀 수도 없었더라

6 제사장들이 여호와의 언약궤를 그 처소로 메어 들였으니 곧 성전의 내소인 지성소 그룹들의 날개 아래라

7 그룹들이 그 궤 처소 위에서 날개를 펴서 궤와 그 채를 덮었는데

8 채가 길므로 채 끝이 내소 앞 성소에서 보이나 밖에서는 보이지 아니하며 그 채는 오늘까지 그 곳에 있으며

9 그 궤 안에는 두 돌판 외에 아무것도 없으니 이것은 이스라엘 자손이 애굽 땅에서 나온 후 여호와께서 저희와 언약을 맺으실 때에 모세가 호렙에서 그 안에 넣은 것이더라

10 제사장이 성소에서 나올 때에 구름이 여호와의 성전에 가득하매

11 제사장이 그 구름으로 말미암아 능히 서서 섬기지 못하였으니 이는 여호와의 영광이 여호와의 성전에 가득함이었더라

솔로몬의 연설(대하 6:3-11)

12 그 때에 솔로몬이 이르되 여호와께서 캄캄한 데 계시겠다 말씀하셨사오나

13 내가 참으로 주를 위하여 계실 성전을 건축하였사오니 주께서 영원히 계실 처소로소이다 하고

14 얼굴을 돌이켜 이스라엘의 온 회중을 위하여 축복하니 그 때에 이스라엘의 온 회중이 서 있더라

15 왕이 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 송축할지로다 여호와께서 그의 입으로 내 아버지 다윗에게 말씀하신 것을 이제 그의 손으로 이루셨도다 이르시기를

16 내가 내 백성 이스라엘을 애굽에서 인도하여 낸 날부터 내 이름을 둘 만한 집을 건축하기 위하여 이스라엘 모든 지파 가운데에서 아무 성읍도 택하지 아니하고 다만 다윗을 택하여 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스리게 하였노라 하신지라

17 내 아버지 다윗이 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축할 마음이 있었더니

18 여호와께서 내 아버지 다윗에게 이르시되 네가 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축할 마음이 있으니 이 마음이 네게 있는 것이 좋도다

19 그러나 너는 그 성전을 건축하지 못할 것이요 네 몸에서 낳을 네 아들 그가 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하리라 하시더니

20 이제 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 이루시도다 내가 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 내 아버지 다윗을 이어서 일어나 이스라엘의 왕위에 앉고 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하고

21 내가 또 그 곳에 우리 조상들을 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내실 때에 그들과 세우신 바 여호와의 언약을 넣은 궤를 위하여 한 처소를 설치하였노라

솔로몬의 기도(대하 6:12-42)

22 솔로몬이 여호와의 제단 앞에서 이스라엘의 온 회중과 마주서서 하늘을 향하여 손을 펴고

23 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 위로 하늘과 아래로 땅에 주와 같은 신이 없나이다 주께서는 온 마음으로 주의 앞에서 행하는 종들에게 언약을 지키시고 은혜를 베푸시나이다

24 주께서 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 하신 말씀을 지키사 주의 입으로 말씀하신 것을 손으로 이루심이 오늘과 같으니이다

25 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 주께서 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 말씀하시기를 네 자손이 자기 길을 삼가서 네가 내 앞에서 행한 것 같이 내 앞에서 행하기만 하면 네게서 나서 이스라엘의 왕위에 앉을 사람이 내 앞에서 끊어지지 아니하리라 하셨사오니 이제 다윗을 위하여 그 하신 말씀을 지키시옵소서

26 그런즉 이스라엘의 하나님이여 원하건대 주는 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 하신 말씀이 확실하게 하옵소서

27 하나님이 참으로 땅에 거하시리이까 하늘과 하늘들의 하늘이라도 주를 용납하지 못하겠거든 하물며 내가 건축한 이 성전이오리이까

28 그러나 내 하나님 여호와여 주의 종의 기도와 간구를 돌아보시며 이 종이 오늘 주 앞에서 부르짖음과 비는 기도를 들으시옵소서

29 주께서 전에 말씀하시기를 내 이름이 거기 있으리라 하신 곳 이 성전을 향하여 주의 눈이 주야로 보시오며 주의 종이 이 곳을 향하여 비는 기도를 들으시옵소서

30 주의 종과 주의 백성 이스라엘이 이 곳을 향하여 기도할 때에 주는 그 간구함을 들으시되 주께서 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시고 들으시사 사하여 주옵소서

31 만일 어떤 사람이 그 이웃에게 범죄함으로 맹세시킴을 받고 그가 와서 이 성전에 있는 주의 제단 앞에서 맹세하거든

32 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 행하시되 주의 종들을 심판하사 악한 자의 죄를 정하여 그 행위대로 그 머리에 돌리시고 의로운 자를 의롭다 하사 그의 의로운 바대로 갚으시옵소서

33 만일 주의 백성 이스라엘이 주께 범죄하여 적국 앞에 패하게 되므로 주께로 돌아와서 주의 이름을 인정하고 이 성전에서 주께 기도하며 간구하거든

34 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 주의 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 사하시고 그들의 조상들에게 주신 땅으로 돌아오게 하옵소서

35 만일 그들이 주께 범죄함으로 말미암아 하늘이 닫히고 비가 없어서 주께 벌을 받을 때에 이 곳을 향하여 기도하며 주의 이름을 찬양하고 그들의 죄에서 떠나거든

36 주는 하늘에서 들으사 주의 종들과 주의 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 사하시고 그들이 마땅히 행할 선한 길을 가르쳐 주시오며 주의 백성에게 기업으로 주신 주의 땅에 비를 내리시옵소서

37 만일 이 땅에 기근이나 전염병이 있거나 곡식이 시들거나 깜부기가 나거나 메뚜기나 황충이 나거나 적국이 와서 성읍을 에워싸거나 무슨 재앙이나 무슨 질병이 있든지 막론하고

38 한 사람이나 혹 주의 온 백성 이스라엘이 다 각각 자기의 마음에 재앙을 깨닫고 이 성전을 향하여 손을 펴고 무슨 기도나 무슨 간구를 하거든

39 주는 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시고 사하시며 각 사람의 마음을 아시오니 그들의 모든 행위대로 행하사 갚으시옵소서 주만 홀로 사람의 마음을 다 아심이니이다

40 그리하시면 그들이 주께서 우리 조상들에게 주신 땅에서 사는 동안에 항상 주를 경외하리이다

41 또 주의 백성 이스라엘에 속하지 아니한 자 곧 주의 이름을 위하여 먼 지방에서 온 이방인이라도

42 그들이 주의 크신 이름과 주의 능한 손과 주의 펴신 팔의 소문을 듣고 와서 이 성전을 향하여 기도하거든

43 주는 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시고 이방인이 주께 부르짖는 대로 이루사 땅의 만민이 주의 이름을 알고 주의 백성 이스라엘처럼 경외하게 하시오며 또 내가 건축한 이 성전을 주의 이름으로 일컫는 줄을 알게 하옵소서

44 주의 백성이 그들의 적국과 더불어 싸우고자 하여 주께서 보내신 길로 나갈 때에 그들이 주께서 택하신 성읍과 내가 주의 이름을 위하여 건축한 성전이 있는 쪽을 향하여 여호와께 기도하거든

45 주는 하늘에서 그들의 기도와 간구를 들으시고 그들의 일을 돌아보옵소서

46 범죄하지 아니하는 사람이 없사오니 그들이 주께 범죄함으로 주께서 그들에게 진노하사 그들을 적국에게 넘기시매 적국이 그들을 사로잡아 원근을 막론하고 적국의 땅으로 끌어간 후에

47 그들이 사로잡혀 간 땅에서 스스로 깨닫고 그 사로잡은 자의 땅에서 돌이켜 주께 간구하기를 우리가 범죄하여 반역을 행하며 악을 지었나이다 하며

48 자기를 사로잡아 간 적국의 땅에서 온 마음과 온 뜻으로 주께 돌아와서 주께서 그들의 조상들에게 주신 땅 곧 주께서 택하신 성읍과 내가 주의 이름을 위하여 건축한 성전 있는 쪽을 향하여 주께 기도하거든

49 주는 계신 곳 하늘에서 그들의 기도와 간구를 들으시고 그들의 일을 돌아보시오며

50 주께 범죄한 백성을 용서하시며 주께 범한 그 모든 허물을 사하시고 그들을 사로잡아 간 자 앞에서 그들로 불쌍히 여김을 얻게 하사 그 사람들로 그들을 불쌍히 여기게 하옵소서

51 그들은 주께서 철 풀무 같은 애굽에서 인도하여 내신 주의 백성, 주의 소유가 됨이니이다

52 원하건대 주는 눈을 들어 종의 간구함과 주의 백성 이스라엘의 간구함을 보시고 주께 부르짖는 대로 들으시옵소서

53 주 여호와여 주께서 우리 조상을 애굽에서 인도하여 내실 때에 주의 종 모세를 통하여 말씀하심 같이 주께서 세상 만민 가운데에서 그들을 구별하여 주의 기업으로 삼으셨나이다

솔로몬의 축복

54 솔로몬이 무릎을 꿇고 손을 펴서 하늘을 향하여 이 기도와 간구로 여호와께 아뢰기를 마치고 여호와의 제단 앞에서 일어나

55 서서 큰 소리로 이스라엘의 온 회중을 위하여 축복하며 이르되

56 여호와를 찬송할지로다 그가 말씀하신 대로 그의 백성 이스라엘에게 태평을 주셨으니 그 종 모세를 통하여 무릇 말씀하신 그 모든 좋은 약속이 하나도 이루어지지 아니함이 없도다

57 우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리 조상들과 함께 계시던 것 같이 우리와 함께 계시옵고 우리를 떠나지 마시오며 버리지 마시옵고

58 우리의 마음을 주께로 향하여 그의 모든 길로 행하게 하시오며 우리 조상들에게 명령하신 계명과 법도와 율례를 지키게 하시기를 원하오며

59 여호와 앞에서 내가 간구한 이 말씀이 주야로 우리 하나님 여호와께 가까이 있게 하시옵고 또 주의 종의 일과 주의 백성 이스라엘의 일을 날마다 필요한 대로 돌아보사

60 이에 세상 만민에게 여호와께서만 하나님이시고 그 외에는 없는 줄을 알게 하시기를 원하노라

61 그런즉 너희의 마음을 우리 하나님 여호와께 온전히 바쳐 완전하게 하여 오늘과 같이 그의 법도를 행하며 그의 계명을 지킬지어다

성전 봉헌식(대하 7:4-10)

62 이에 왕과 및 왕과 함께 한 이스라엘이 다 여호와 앞에 희생제물을 드리니라

63 솔로몬이 화목제의 희생제물을 드렸으니 곧 여호와께 드린 소가 이만 이천 마리요 양이 십이만 마리라 이와 같이 왕과 모든 이스라엘 자손이 여호와의 성전의 봉헌식을 행하였는데

64 그 날에 왕이 여호와의 성전 앞뜰 가운데를 거룩히 구별하고 거기서 번제와 소제와 감사제물의 기름을 드렸으니 이는 여호와의 앞 놋 제단이 작으므로 번제물과 소제물과 화목제의 기름을 다 용납할 수 없음이라

65 그 때에 솔로몬이 칠 일과 칠 일 도합 십사 일간을 우리 하나님 여호와 앞에서 절기로 지켰는데 하맛 어귀에서부터 애굽 강까지의 온 이스라엘의 큰 회중이 모여 그와 함께 하였더니

66 여덟째 날에 솔로몬이 백성을 돌려보내매 백성이 왕을 위하여 축복하고 자기 장막으로 돌아가는데 여호와께서 그의 종 다윗과 그의 백성 이스라엘에게 베푸신 모든 은혜로 말미암아 기뻐하며 마음에 즐거워하였더라

못하겠거든 하물며 내가 건축한 이 성전이오리이까 28 그러나 내 하나님 여호와여 주의 종의 기도와 간구를 돌아보시며 이 종이 오늘 주 앞에서 부르짖음과 비는 기도를 들으시옵소서 29 주께서 전에 말씀하시기를 내 이름이 거기 있으리라 하신 곳 이 성전을 향하여 주의 눈이 주야로 보시오며 주의 종이 이 곳을 향하여 비는 기도를 들으시옵소서 30 주의 종과 주의 Si el cielo se cerrare y no lloviere, por haber ellos pecado contra ti, y te rogaren en este lugar y confesaren tu nombre, y se volvieren del pecado, cuando los afligieres, 36. tú oirás en los cielos, y perdonarás el pecado de tus siervos y de tu pueblo Israel, enseñándoles el buen camino en que anden; y darás lluvias sobre tu tierra, la cual diste a tu pueblo por heredad. 37. Si en la tierra hubiere hambre, pestilencia, tizoncillo, añublo, langosta o pulgón; si sus enemigos los sitiaren en la tierra en donde habiten; cualquier plaga o enfermedad que sea; 38. toda oración y toda súplica que hiciere cualquier hombre, o todo tu pueblo Israel, cuando cualquiera sintiere la plaga en su corazón, y extendiere sus manos a esta casa, 39. tú oirás en los cielos, en el lugar de tu morada, y perdonarás, y actuarás, y darás a cada uno conforme a sus caminos, cuyo corazón tú conoces (porque solo tú conoces el corazón de todos los hijos de los hombres); 40. para que te teman todos los días que vivan sobre la faz de la tierra que tú diste a nuestros padres. 41. Asimismo el extranjero, que no es de tu pueblo Israel, que viniere de lejanas tierras a causa de tu nombre 42. Si pecaren contra ti (porque no hay hombre que no peque), y estuvieres airado contra ellos, y los entregares delante del enemigo, para que los cautive y lleve a tierra enemiga, sea lejos o cerca, 47. y ellos volvieren en sí en la tierra donde fueren cautivos; si se convirtieren, y oraren a ti en la tierra de los que los cautivaron, y dijeren: Pecamos, hemos hecho lo malo, hemos cometido impiedad; 48. y si se convirtieren a ti de todo su corazón y de toda su alma, en la tierra de sus enemigos que los hubieren llevado cautivos, y oraren a ti con el rostro hacia su tierra que tú diste a sus padres, y hacia la ciudad que tú elegiste y la casa que yo he edificado a tu nombre, 49. tú oirás en los cielos, en el lugar de tu morada, su oración y su súplica, y les harás justicia. 50. Y perdonarás a tu pueblo que había pecado contra ti, y todas sus infracciones con que se hayan rebelado contra ti, y harás que tengan de ellos misericordia los que los hubieren llevado cautivos; 51. porque ellos son tu pueblo y tu heredad, el cual tú sacaste de Egipto, de en medio del horno de hierro. 52. Estén, pues, atentos tus ojos a la oración de tu siervo y a la plegaria de tu pueblo Israel, para oírlos en todo aquello por lo cual te invocaren; 53. porque tú los apartaste para ti como heredad tuya de entre todos los pueblos de la tierra, como lo dijiste por medio de Moisés tu siervo, cuando sacaste a nuestros padres de Egipto, oh Señor Jehová. 54. Cuando acabó Salomón de hacer a Jehová toda esta oración y súplica, se levantó de estar de rodillas delante del altar de Jehová con sus manos extendidas al cielo; 55. y puesto en pie, bendijo a toda la congregación de Israel, diciendo en voz alta: 56. Bendito sea Jehová, que ha dado paz a su pueblo Israel, conforme a todo lo que él había dicho; ninguna palabra de todas sus promesas que expresó por Moisés su siervo, ha faltado. 57. Sea, pues, perfecto vuestro corazón para con Jehová nuestro Dios, andando en sus estatutos y guardando sus mandamientos, como en el día de hoy. 62. Entonces el rey, y todo Israel con él, sacrificaron víctimas delante de Jehová. 63. Y ofreció Salomón sacrificios de paz, los cuales ofreció a Jehová: veintidós mil bueyes y ciento veinte mil ovejas. En aquel tiempo Salomón hizo fiesta, y con él todo Israel, una gran congregación, desde donde entran en Hamat hasta el río de Egipto, delante de Jehová nuestro Dios, por siete días y aun por otros siete días, esto es, por catorce días. 66. Y al octavo día despidió al pueblo; y ellos, bendiciendo al rey, se fueron a sus moradas alegres y gozosos de corazón, por todos los beneficios que Jehová había hecho a David su siervo y a su pueblo Israel. 1 #Kings 8 The Ark Brought into the Temple 1. Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers’ houses of the people of Israel, before King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Zion. 2. And all the men of Israel assembled to King Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month. 3. And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark. 4. And they brought up the ark of the Lord, the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought them up. 5. And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who had assembled before him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered. 6. Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place in the inner sanctuary of the house, in the Most Holy Place, underneath the wings of the cherubim. 7. For the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, so that the cherubim overshadowed the ark and its poles. 8. And the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the Holy Place before the inner sanctuary; but they could not be seen from outside. And they are there to this day. 9. There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone that Moses put there at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the people of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. 10. And when the priests came out of the Holy Place, a cloud filled the house of the Lord, 11. so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord. Solomon Blesses the Lord 12. Then Solomon said, “The Lord has said that he would dwell in thick darkness. 13. I have indeed built you an exalted house, a place for you to dwell in forever.” 14. Then the king turned around and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood. 15. And he said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying, 16. ‘Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there. But I chose David to be over my people Israel.’ 17. Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 18. But the Lord said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart. 19. Nevertheless, you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’ 20. Now the Lord has fulfilled his promise that he made. For I have risen in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 21. And there I have provided a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.” Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication 22. Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven, 23. and said, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart; 24. you have kept with your servant David my father what you declared to him. You spoke with your mouth, and with your hand have fulfilled it this day. 25. Now therefore, O Lord, God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father what you have promised him, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before me as you have walked before me.’ 26. Now therefore, O God of Israel, let your word be confirmed, which you have spoken to your servant David my father. 27. “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built! 28. Yet have regard to the prayer of your servant and to his plea, O Lord my God, listening to the cry and to the prayer that your servant prays before you this day, 29. that your eyes may be open night and day toward this house, the place of which you have said, ‘My name shall be there,’ that you may listen to the prayer that your servant offers toward this place. 30. And listen to the plea of your servant and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. And listen in heaven your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive. 31. “If a man sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath and comes and swears his oath before your altar in this house, 32. then hear in heaven and act and judge your servants, condemning the guilty by bringing his conduct on his own head, and vindicating the righteous by rewarding him according to his righteousness. 33. “When your people Israel are defeated before the enemy because they have sinned against you, and if they turn again to you and acknowledge your name and pray and plead with you in this house, 34. then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and bring them again to the land that you gave to their fathers. 35. “When heaven is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray toward this place and acknowledge your name and turn from their sin, when you afflict them, 36. then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk, and grant rain upon your land, which you have given to your people as an inheritance. 37. “If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence or blight or mildew or locust or caterpillar, if their enemy besieges them in the land at their gates, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is, 38. whatever prayer, whatever plea is made by any man or by all your people Israel, each knowing the affliction of his own heart and stretching out his hands toward this house, 39. then hear in heaven your dwelling place and forgive and act and render to each whose heart you know, according to all his ways (for you, you only, know the hearts of all the children of mankind), 40. that they may fear you all the days that they live in the land that you gave to our fathers. 41. “Likewise, when a foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, comes from a far country for your name’s sake 42. (for they shall hear of your great name and your mighty hand, and of your outstretched arm), when he comes and prays toward this house, 43. hear in heaven your dwelling place and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to you, in order that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your people Israel, and that they may know that this house that I have built is called by your name. 44. “If your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way you shall send them, and they pray to the Lord toward the city that you have chosen and the house that I have built for your name, 45. then hear in heaven their prayer and their plea, and maintain their cause. 46. “If they sin against you—for there is no one who does not sin—and you are angry with them and give them to an enemy, so that they are carried away captive to the land of the enemy, far off or near, 47. yet if they turn their heart in the land to which they have been carried captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have sinned and have acted perversely and wickedly,’ 48. if they repent with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies, who carried them captive, and pray to you toward their land, which you gave to their fathers, the city that you have chosen, and the house that I have built for your name, 49. then hear in heaven your dwelling place their prayer and their plea, and maintain their cause 50. and forgive your people who have sinned against you, and all their transgressions that they have committed against you, and grant them compassion in the sight of those who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them 51. (for they are your people, and your heritage, which you brought out of Egypt, from the midst of the iron furnace). 52. Let your eyes be open to the plea of your servant and to the plea of your people Israel, giving ear to them whenever they call to you. 53. For you separated them from among all the peoples of the earth to be your heritage, as you declared through Moses your servant, when you brought our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord God.” Solomon’s Benediction 54. Now as Solomon finished offering all this prayer and plea to the Lord, he arose from before the altar of the Lord, where he had knelt with hands outstretched toward heaven. 55. And he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying, 56. “Blessed be the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he spoke by Moses his servant. 57. The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers. May he not leave us or forsake us, 58. that he may incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his rules, which he commanded our fathers. 59. Let these words of mine, with which I have pleaded before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, and may he maintain the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel, as each day requires, 60. that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God; there is no other. 61. Let your heart therefore be wholly true to the Lord our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day.” Solomon’s Sacrifices 62. Then the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the Lord. 63. Solomon offered as peace offerings to the Lord 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. So the king and all the people of Israel dedicated the house of the Lord. 64. The same day the king consecrated the middle of the court that was before the house of the Lord, for there he offered the burnt offering and the grain offering and the fat pieces of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar that was before the Lord was too small to receive the burnt offering and the grain offering and the fat pieces of the peace offerings. 65. So Solomon held the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from Lebo-hamath to the Brook of Egypt, before the Lord our God, seven days. 66. On the eighth day he sent the people away, and they blessed the king and went to their homes joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the Lord had shown to David his servant and to Israel his people.

Y cuando los sacerdotes salieron del santuario, la nube llenó la casa de Jehová.
Y los sacerdotes no pudieron permanecer para ministrar por causa de la nube; porque la gloria de Jehová había llenado la casa de Jehová.

Dedicación del templo
(2 Cr. 6.1—7.10)
Entonces dijo Salomón: Jehová ha dicho que él habitaría en la oscuridad.
Yo he edificado casa por morada para ti, sitio en que tú habites para siempre.
Y volviendo el rey su rostro, bendijo a toda la congregación de Israel; y toda la congregación de Israel estaba de pie.
Y dijo: Bendito sea Jehová, Dios de Israel, que habló a David mi padre lo que con su mano ha cumplido, diciendo:
Desde el día que saqué de Egipto a mi pueblo Israel, no he escogido ciudad de todas las tribus de Israel para edificar casa en la cual estuviese mi nombre, aunque escogí a David para que presidiese en mi pueblo Israel.
Y David mi padre tuvo en su corazón edificar casa al nombre de Jehová Dios de Israel.
Pero Jehová dijo a David mi padre: Cuanto a haber tenido en tu corazón edificar casa a mi nombre, bien has hecho en tener tal deseo.
Pero tú no edificarás la casa, sino tu hijo que saldrá de tus lomos, él edificará casa a mi nombre.
Y Jehová ha cumplido su palabra que había dicho; porque yo me he levantado en lugar de David mi padre, y me he sentado en el trono de Israel, como Jehová había dicho, y he edificado la casa al nombre de Jehová Dios de Israel.
Y he puesto en ella lugar para el arca, en la cual está el pacto de Jehová que él hizo con nuestros padres cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto.
Luego se puso Salomón delante del altar de Jehová, en presencia de toda la congregación de Israel, y extendiendo sus manos al cielo,
dijo: Jehová Dios de Israel, no hay Dios como tú, ni arriba en los cielos ni abajo en la tierra, que guardas el pacto y la misericordia a tus siervos, los que andan delante de ti con todo su corazón;
que has cumplido a tu siervo David mi padre lo que le prometiste; lo dijiste con tu boca, y con tu mano lo has cumplido, como sucede en este día.
Ahora, pues, Jehová Dios de Israel, cumple a tu siervo David mi padre lo que le prometiste, diciendo: No te faltará varón delante de mí, que se siente en el trono de Israel, con tal que tus hijos guarden mi camino y anden delante de mí como tú has andado delante de mí.
Ahora, pues, oh Jehová Dios de Israel, cúmplase la palabra que dijiste a tu siervo David mi padre.
Pero ¿es verdad que Dios morará sobre la tierra? He aquí que los cielos, los cielos de los cielos, no te pueden contener; ¿cuánto menos esta casa que yo he edificado?
Con todo, tú atenderás a la oración de tu siervo, y a su plegaria, oh Jehová Dios mío, oyendo el clamor y la oración que tu siervo hace hoy delante de ti;
que estén tus ojos abiertos de noche y de día sobre esta casa, sobre este lugar del cual has dicho: Mi nombre estará allí; y que oigas la oración que tu siervo haga en este lugar.
Oye, pues, la oración de tu siervo, y de tu pueblo Israel; cuando oren en este lugar, también tú lo oirás en el lugar de tu morada, en los cielos; escucha y perdona.
Si alguno pecare contra su prójimo, y le tomaren juramento haciéndole jurar, y viniere el juramento delante de tu altar en esta casa;
tú oirás desde el cielo y actuarás, y juzgarás a tus siervos, condenando al impío y haciendo recaer su proceder sobre su cabeza, y justificando al justo para darle conforme a su justicia.
Si tu pueblo Israel fuere derrotado delante de sus enemigos por haber pecado contra ti, y se volvieren a ti y confesaren tu nombre, y oraren y te rogaren y suplicaren en esta casa,
tú oirás en los cielos, y perdonarás el pecado de tu pueblo Israel, y los volverás a la tierra que diste a sus padres.
Si el cielo se cerrare y no lloviere, por haber ellos pecado contra ti, y te rogaren en este lugar y confesaren tu nombre, y se volvieren del pecado, cuando los afligieres,
tú oirás en los cielos, y perdonarás el pecado de tus siervos y de tu pueblo Israel, enseñándoles el buen camino en que anden; y darás lluvias sobre tu tierra, la cual diste a tu pueblo por heredad.
Si en la tierra hubiere hambre, pestilencia, tizoncillo, añublo, langosta o pulgón; si sus enemigos los sitiaren en la tierra en donde habiten; cualquier plaga o enfermedad que sea;
toda oración y toda súplica que hiciere cualquier hombre, o todo tu pueblo Israel, cuando cualquiera sintiere la plaga en su corazón, y extendiere sus manos a esta casa,
tú oirás en los cielos, en el lugar de tu morada, y perdonarás, y actuarás, y darás a cada uno conforme a sus caminos, cuyo corazón tú conoces (porque solo tú conoces el corazón de todos los hijos de los hombres);
para que te teman todos los días que vivan sobre la faz de la tierra que tú diste a nuestros padres.
Asimismo el extranjero, que no es de tu pueblo Israel, que viniere de lejanas tierras a causa de tu nombre
(pues oirán de tu gran nombre, de tu mano fuerte y de tu brazo extendido), y viniere a orar a esta casa,
tú oirás en los cielos, en el lugar de tu morada, y harás conforme a todo aquello por lo cual el extranjero hubiere clamado a ti, para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan tu nombre y te teman, como tu pueblo Israel, y entiendan que tu nombre es invocado sobre esta casa que yo edifiqué.
Si tu pueblo saliere en batalla contra sus enemigos por el camino que tú les mandes, y oraren a Jehová con el rostro hacia la ciudad que tú elegiste, y hacia la casa que yo edifiqué a tu nombre,
tú oirás en los cielos su oración y su súplica, y les harás justicia.
Si pecaren contra ti (porque no hay hombre que no peque), y estuvieres airado contra ellos, y los entregares delante del enemigo, para que los cautive y lleve a tierra enemiga, sea lejos o cerca,
y ellos volvieren en sí en la tierra donde fueren cautivos; si se convirtieren, y oraren a ti en la tierra de los que los cautivaron, y dijeren: Pecamos, hemos hecho lo malo, hemos cometido impiedad;
y si se convirtieren a ti de todo su corazón y de toda su alma, en la tierra de sus enemigos que los hubieren llevado cautivos, y oraren a ti con el rostro hacia su tierra que tú diste a sus padres, y hacia la ciudad que tú elegiste y la casa que yo he edificado a tu nombre,
tú oirás en los cielos, en el lugar de tu morada, su oración y su súplica, y les harás justicia.
Y perdonarás a tu pueblo que había pecado contra ti, y todas sus infracciones con que se hayan rebelado contra ti, y harás que tengan de ellos misericordia los que los hubieren llevado cautivos;
porque ellos son tu pueblo y tu heredad, el cual tú sacaste de Egipto, de en medio del horno de hierro.
Estén, pues, atentos tus ojos a la oración de tu siervo y a la plegaria de tu pueblo Israel, para oírlos en todo aquello por lo cual te invocaren;
porque tú los apartaste para ti como heredad tuya de entre todos los pueblos de la tierra, como lo dijiste por medio de Moisés tu siervo, cuando sacaste a nuestros padres de Egipto, oh Señor Jehová.
Cuando acabó Salomón de hacer a Jehová toda esta oración y súplica, se levantó de estar de rodillas delante del altar de Jehová con sus manos extendidas al cielo;
y puesto en pie, bendijo a toda la congregación de Israel, diciendo en voz alta:
Bendito sea Jehová, que ha dado paz a su pueblo Israel, conforme a todo lo que él había dicho; ninguna palabra de todas sus promesas que expresó por Moisés su siervo, ha faltado.
Esté con nosotros Jehová nuestro Dios, como estuvo con nuestros padres, y no nos desampare ni nos deje.
Incline nuestro corazón hacia él, para que andemos en todos sus caminos, y guardemos sus mandamientos y sus estatutos y sus decretos, los cuales mandó a nuestros padres.
Y estas mis palabras con que he orado delante de Jehová, estén cerca de Jehová nuestro Dios de día y de noche, para que él proteja la causa de su siervo y de su pueblo Israel, cada cosa en su tiempo;
a fin de que todos los pueblos de la tierra sepan que Jehová es Dios, y que no hay otro.
Sea, pues, perfecto vuestro corazón para con Jehová nuestro Dios, andando en sus estatutos y guardando sus mandamientos, como en el día de hoy.
Entonces el rey, y todo Israel con él, sacrificaron víctimas delante de Jehová.
Y ofreció Salomón sacrificios de paz, los cuales ofreció a Jehová: veintidós mil bueyes y ciento veinte mil ovejas. Así dedicaron el rey y todos los hijos de Israel la casa de Jehová.
Aquel mismo día santificó el rey el medio del atrio, el cual estaba delante de la casa de Jehová; porque ofreció allí los holocaustos, las ofrendas y la grosura de los sacrificios de paz, por cuanto el altar de bronce que estaba delante de Jehová era pequeño, y no cabían en él los holocaustos, las ofrendas y la grosura de los sacrificios de paz.
En aquel tiempo Salomón hizo fiesta, y con él todo Israel, una gran congregación, desde donde entran en Hamat hasta el río de Egipto, delante de Jehová nuestro Dios, por siete días y aun por otros siete días, esto es, por catorce días.
Y al octavo día despidió al pueblo; y ellos, bendiciendo al rey, se fueron a sus moradas alegres y gozosos de corazón, por todos los beneficios que Jehová había hecho a David su siervo y a su pueblo Israel.

The Ark Brought into the Temple

Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers’ houses of the people of Israel, before King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Zion.
And all the men of Israel assembled to King Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.
And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.
And they brought up the ark of the Lord, the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought them up.
And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who had assembled before him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered.
Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place in the inner sanctuary of the house, in the Most Holy Place, underneath the wings of the cherubim.
For the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, so that the cherubim overshadowed the ark and its poles.
And the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the Holy Place before the inner sanctuary; but they could not be seen from outside. And they are there to this day.
There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone that Moses put there at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the people of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
And when the priests came out of the Holy Place, a cloud filled the house of the Lord,
so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.

Solomon Blesses the Lord
Then Solomon said, “The Lord has said that he would dwell in thick darkness.
I have indeed built you an exalted house, a place for you to dwell in forever.”
Then the king turned around and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood.
And he said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying,
‘Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there. But I chose David to be over my people Israel.’
Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
But the Lord said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart.
Nevertheless, you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’
Now the Lord has fulfilled his promise that he made. For I have risen in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
And there I have provided a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.”

Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven,
and said, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart;
you have kept with your servant David my father what you declared to him. You spoke with your mouth, and with your hand have fulfilled it this day.
Now therefore, O Lord, God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father what you have promised him, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before me as you have walked before me.’
Now therefore, O God of Israel, let your word be confirmed, which you have spoken to your servant David my father.
“But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built!
Yet have regard to the prayer of your servant and to his plea, O Lord my God, listening to the cry and to the prayer that your servant prays before you this day,
that your eyes may be open night and day toward this house, the place of which you have said, ‘My name shall be there,’ that you may listen to the prayer that your servant offers toward this place.
And listen to the plea of your servant and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. And listen in heaven your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.
“If a man sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath and comes and swears his oath before your altar in this house,
then hear in heaven and act and judge your servants, condemning the guilty by bringing his conduct on his own head, and vindicating the righteous by rewarding him according to his righteousness.
“When your people Israel are defeated before the enemy because they have sinned against you, and if they turn again to you and acknowledge your name and pray and plead with you in this house,
then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and bring them again to the land that you gave to their fathers.
“When heaven is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray toward this place and acknowledge your name and turn from their sin, when you afflict them,
then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk, and grant rain upon your land, which you have given to your people as an inheritance.
“If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence or blight or mildew or locust or caterpillar, if their enemy besieges them in the land at their gates, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is,
whatever prayer, whatever plea is made by any man or by all your people Israel, each knowing the affliction of his own heart and stretching out his hands toward this house,
then hear in heaven your dwelling place and forgive and act and render to each whose heart you know, according to all his ways (for you, you only, know the hearts of all the children of mankind),
that they may fear you all the days that they live in the land that you gave to our fathers.
“Likewise, when a foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, comes from a far country for your name’s sake
(for they shall hear of your great name and your mighty hand, and of your outstretched arm), when he comes and prays toward this house,
hear in heaven your dwelling place and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to you, in order that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your people Israel, and that they may know that this house that I have built is called by your name.
“If your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way you shall send them, and they pray to the Lord toward the city that you have chosen and the house that I have built for your name,
then hear in heaven their prayer and their plea, and maintain their cause.
“If they sin against you—for there is no one who does not sin—and you are angry with them and give them to an enemy, so that they are carried away captive to the land of the enemy, far off or near,
yet if they turn their heart in the land to which they have been carried captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have sinned and have acted perversely and wickedly,’
if they repent with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies, who carried them captive, and pray to you toward their land, which you gave to their fathers, the city that you have chosen, and the house that I have built for your name,
then hear in heaven your dwelling place their prayer and their plea, and maintain their cause
and forgive your people who have sinned against you, and all their transgressions that they have committed against you, and grant them compassion in the sight of those who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them
(for they are your people, and your heritage, which you brought out of Egypt, from the midst of the iron furnace).
Let your eyes be open to the plea of your servant and to the plea of your people Israel, giving ear to them whenever they call to you.
For you separated them from among all the peoples of the earth to be your heritage, as you declared through Moses your servant, when you brought our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord God.”

Solomon’s Benediction
Now as Solomon finished offering all this prayer and plea to the Lord, he arose from before the altar of the Lord, where he had knelt with hands outstretched toward heaven.
And he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying,
“Blessed be the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he spoke by Moses his servant.
The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers. May he not leave us or forsake us,
that he may incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his rules, which he commanded our fathers.
Let these words of mine, with which I have pleaded before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, and may he maintain the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel, as each day requires,
that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God; there is no other.
Let your heart therefore be wholly true to the Lord our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day.”

Solomon’s Sacrifices
Then the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the Lord.
Solomon offered as peace offerings to the Lord 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. So the king and all the people of Israel dedicated the house of the Lord.
The same day the king consecrated the middle of the court that was before the house of the Lord, for there he offered the burnt offering and the grain offering and the fat pieces of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar that was before the Lord was too small to receive the burnt offering and the grain offering and the fat pieces of the peace offerings.
So Solomon held the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from Lebo-hamath to the Brook of Egypt, before the Lord our God, seven days.
On the eighth day he sent the people away, and they blessed the king and went to their homes joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the Lord had shown to David his servant and to Israel his people.
